Identity workflows have transformed how we secure logins and manage user access daily
There are different elements to the best features Auth0 Platform offers, and I have touched on them, particularly the ability to help applications authenticate and authorize their users and manage their identities. A big point is identity federation, allowing connections across multiple identity providers, enabling users to log in using existing accounts due to databases and enterprise identity systems. A strong security feature is provided, particularly with their MFA, multi-factor authentication, which includes bot detection and brute-force protection, along with breached password detection, which is really good as an added extra. Auth0 Platform has positively impacted our organization, particularly in terms of usability. While we are not selling it directly, I find the platform easy to use for authenticating different users. Our own services team handles the implementation, so I cannot comment on the ease of that process. However, whenever we have had contracts and bids to roll out services, it has been really easy. We have seen improved security due to the implementation of Auth0 Platform. User management, such as creating and deleting users, is all about enhancing the user experience, which is massive. We assist with password resets and account linking. The time to implement is shorter, and we maintain a consistent user experience with a secure login flow, benefiting from a faster implementation due to the universal login, providing a hosted login page customizable by developers.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"It has a lot of customization and out-of-the-box features."
"We did a case study on Auth0, and we had a 300% return on investment in terms of money."
"It's a very powerful platform. It has the ability to do the usual stuff, according to modern protocols, like OIDC and OAuth 2. But the real benefit of using the platform comes from its flexibility to enhance it with rules and, now, with what they call authentication pipelines. That is the most significant feature, as it allows you to customize everything regarding the authentication and authorization process."
"After implementing Auth0 Platform, I have seen measurable improvements in scalability, security, and developer velocity with our cloud environments."
"It is easily connected and easy to put our app in single sign-on."
"Auth0 supports over 30 social logins with support for the major ones such as Facebook, Twitter and Google, and also allows custom social connections through their extensions framework, which provides a great amount of flexibility to solution architects."
"The most important feature for me was the ease of use, as it needed to be easy to integrate into my platform."
"One of the main reasons we switched to Auth0 is that supporting an on-prem version required a certain amount of expertise and management and we didn't need to be spending money on that if we were using a software as a service provider."
"Some of the valuable features are: Reverse proxy Protected object space Ease of integration Multiple and robust AuthN and AuthZ mechanisms built-in No single point of failure (SPOF)"
"It is a simple-to-deploy solution, with many features that are supported out-of-the-box without complicated setup."
"IBM directory server offers the best roll-out experience."
"I like the primary function of this product allowing the administration of user/network accounts with a fair amount of ease."
"Single Sign-On functionality is valuable because the core purpose of the product is to allow universal (or bespoke) SSO for application suites."
"Tivoli Access Manger lets you separate security from applications and manage at one place."
"TAM component integration and their SSO capabilities and transparency are the most valuable features I have found."
"The SSO, URL-based access control, OAuth 2 and OIDC are the most valuable features."

Cons

"I find it surprising that there is no access to a standard user profile."
"One of the sought features in our company that we would like Auth0 Platform to improve is the adoption of new features and how quickly they are integrated."
"The product could use a more flexible administration structure in the next release."
"I think they can do a better job in explaining what you're supposed to do next in order to correctly follow an idiomatic approach to using the solution beyond simply passing a JWT token to a server and having the server check then signature to validate the token."
"The tool's price should be improved."
"Regarding improvements for Auth0 Platform, during the last time I used it, I observed that during log analysis or when using the search or filter options, I missed some features."
"The product support for multi-tenancy could be improved further, and advanced authorization capabilities could be included in the next release."
"In the past, there was an issue with the multi-tenant where there wasn't the ability to manage them."
"There is only a single step-up authentication path, but I have sometimes seen the need for several steps or a divergent path."
"Multi-factor authentication with social integration needs to improve."
"There were endless issues with stability in version 8.0.1."
"This product is also available in the appliance offering which has not yet matured and has many issues."
"The license model is pretty complex."
"Multi-factor authentication with social integration needs to improve."
"We have had stability issues lately with the hardware and SAN that the product runs on."
"An Amazon Machine Image (AMI) for the newer appliance versions for hosting the virtual appliances on AWS will help."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"It is a relatively inexpensive product in the industry."
"I am pretty happy with the pricing model of Auth0. It is very clear for me. Considering our scale, the features that we are using, and additional features that we bought, we still find it great. If you split the costs for the whole year and calculate the number of people you needed to hire, it always comes out to be much lesser than what we would have spent on building our own solution."
"There are different price levels: B2B, B2C, and enterprise. The basic plan is about $1,500 per month."
"The tool is cheaper compared to competing solutions. Those alternatives tended to be more expensive. Consequently, Okta purchased it because it was considerably cheaper. The solution even offered some free services while still providing excellent functionality."
"Pricing of Auth0 is a pain point. Their pricing model is very confusing, at least for an enterprise. I don't like their pricing model. I think it's too aggressive. It's not very cheap for a service that only does authentication."
"The IBM prices are, as ever, extortionate, even with a business partnership, and high levels of discounts."
