IBM Spectrum Protect Plus and Veeam Data Platform compete in the backup and recovery solutions category. Based on data comparisons, Veeam Data Platform seems to have the upper hand due to its ease of deployment and strong user interface.
Features: IBM Spectrum Protect Plus offers data deduplication, data retention, and robust integration with cloud services, applications, and databases like Exchange and SQL, providing a centralized solution. Veeam Data Platform is known for its usability, offering instant VM recovery, granular restores, and integration with virtualization platforms like VMware and Hyper-V, ensuring seamless connectivity and excellent reporting capabilities.
Room for Improvement: IBM Spectrum Protect Plus could enhance data validation, simplify its user interface, and improve support for virtualization environments such as Hyper-V and Nutanix. Better integration with existing IBM products could provide a cohesive solution. Veeam Data Platform could work on cost-effective licensing and expand backup support to more applications and non-Windows systems, alongside enhancing replication speed.
Ease of Deployment and Customer Service: IBM Spectrum Protect Plus may present initial deployment challenges due to its complexity, but provides a robust solution once integrated. Customer support is generally satisfactory but can vary in response quality. Veeam Data Platform is praised for its ease of setup, user-friendly interface, and reliable customer service that effectively resolves technical issues.
Pricing and ROI: IBM Spectrum Protect Plus is viewed as a premium solution with high upfront costs, best suited for large organizations due to its comprehensive feature set. Veeam Data Platform offers competitive pricing and a flexible licensing model, providing good ROI for businesses requiring strong backup and recovery solutions.
Their documentation, runbooks, troubleshooting articles, and support people are good.
The escalation from first, second to third tier is sometimes very long-lasting, but the resolve rate is quite high.
I would rate their technical support a 10 out of 10.
Most cases are handled perfectly.
IBM Data Protect is the scalable solution, not IBM Spectrum Protect Plus.
The solution does not provide horizontal and vertical scaling.
Integration with other vendors is also seamless.
I would rate the scalability part of Veeam Data Platform 10 out of 10 because we have the ability to scale out the product at any time with scale-out backup repositories and can add licenses as needed.
In order to scale Veeam Data Platform, we have to pay a lot more money.
There are no issues with stability in Veeam Data Platform.
I can say the stability of Veeam Data Platform is almost 8 to 9, as the cluster functionality was not there in earlier platforms such as version 12, but is provided in version 13.
It does not offer horizontal and vertical scaling.
IBM Spectrum Protect Plus could be made more lightweight and user-friendly in terms of GUI features to make it closer to a perfect score.
I used IBM Spectrum Protect Plus, but IBM is now replacing it with IBM Data Protect, which is a giant product now in common development with a well-known company in backup solutions.
The improvement we would like to see is the option to scale Veeam Data up in smaller sections rather than large sections, which requires paying much more.
OpenStack is something Veeam Data Platform doesn't support, and they haven't indicated that they will support it in the future.
Reducing it by 20% would make it more accessible to a broader range of customers.
Pricing is good; it is reasonable and more reasonable than any other vendors.
They are fairly expensive.
I believe it is not expensive; it's the regular price.
Veeam Data Platform is more expensive than OpenStack because we pay for it in US dollars, while we pay for OpenStack in Egyptian pounds.
A reduction of 20% in the current cost would make the solution more attractive to clients.
The biggest benefit of IBM Spectrum Protect Plus is that it's an agentless backup product which is very easy to configure and use.
The platform is user-friendly, comprehensive, and compatible with numerous market solutions, including virtualization and bare metal servers.
The most important aspect of this platform is data security with immutable data in the storage.
Ransomware protection is a good feature added in Veeam Data Platform from version 12 onwards.
