We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"There's something that's very unique about IBM DataCap. It provides me with a good solution for extracting, reading the QR codes, and scanning them. In this stage, we are working in a UIT phase before implementing this protocol in all our branches. From my initial observation, IBM DataCap is good, it is not working too fast, but in a good manner for us.""I can have all scanners accessible from my end.""Both Datacap Studio and Datacap Navigator are great features.""The administration of the application following an error is most valuable. We are able to know easily when something is stuck in the system.""The solution automates manual data entry.""It is highly extensible, which we found to be most valuable. It is a very extensible solution because it is based on configurable rule sets. We were able to amend and adjust the solution and very easily add custom code and custom components. It does require some programming experience, but we found that not to be an issue. We liked its extensibility.""I like Datacap's integration with FileNet because financial companies use that export. The second part is web services integration, which is effortless to implement.""It is very easy to develop this software. It is low code, and if you can't find the things you need on it, you can develop custom actions with more complex code underneath. They sync well, which is very useful for automating a lot of processes. It is a really valuable feature for the clients because we can ingest information and automate plenty of processes for them. The operators don't have to waste that much time on tasks. With Datacap, they can be automated."

"The solution includes preset activities but allows integration of code and expressions that make it more powerful and dynamic.""There is a recording feature that copies each step of a task. You can automate every process via this recording. It's a cool feature that helps you define the variables.""It has a very easy drag and drop process and logic base setup. Previous projects were taking a lot of time. However, when we used UiPath on the same projects, instead of a process/task taking a day, it was now taking anywhere from 10 minutes to five hours.""They have recently come up with new features, like Document Understanding and AI fabric, which we have also started to use. These are helping us a lot with unstructured data extraction from invoices.... This is a great feature which is built-in.""The artificial intelligence and document understanding features are very good and have been helpful when it comes to processing handwritten or unstructured, especially when there is a high volume and it is repetitive.""I have found Orchestrator is UiPath's most valued feature. It has the ability to automate different applications, such as, mainframe automation and Excel macros. It is so efficient. We can download up to seven days back in just one click, monitoring errors.""It is a very simple tool to work with for anybody. Simplicity is the best in UiPath. It also has the best community support. If we are looking for any solution, we can directly reach out to UiPath at any point in time.""In terms of ROI, we are saving more than what the platform costs us. We are at about 1.5 million in savings due to a recent automation. It was a little less than that before. These are soft savings and don't show up on balance sheets. We're trying to work toward automations that actually do lead to hard savings. We've saved about 43,000 hours in a year so far."

Cons
"The IBM Datacap site actually is on the newer inside. They will give it as a plugin only.""Currently, when you are entering invoices, you have to enter multiple rows. In Captiva the multiple rows will be dynamically added. This would be a beneficial feature for IBM to add.""We have page requirements where some values must be copied on each page. For example, say I need to scan a bunch of documents, and the name will be a field on every page. We don't have a default functionality in Datacap to copy the field value on the first page to all the pages. That feature would make the documents easy to prepare.""When I scan a document in Datacap that has a watermark or the document is a little distorted, the image output is poor. It either becomes completely black, or there is so much distortion that we cannot read the numbers or the addresses mentioned in the POD. When we scan a document, we expect the output to be at least 95 percent accurate.""Our main language in Egypt is Arabic, and IBM DataCap does not support it perfectly. All our documentation is in Arabic. It's not English or any other language. However, we have overcome this problem by using QR codes in the document to extract the data from it. They should have better support for Arabic.""Recognition between certain numbers and letters could be improved. Sometimes this solution misreads five with an "S" for Singapore.""Third-party integration could be improved; it's very slow.""I would like better ease of use and more support options."

More IBM Datacap Cons →

"From a developer's point of view, my biggest struggle with UiPath is debugging.""I really wish that UiPath would have moderators in their forums who are more active. There are a lot of questions that go unanswered, and that is a shame.""When it comes to REFramework, we need more training videos and tutorial documents for beginners.""The first area that needs improvement is backward compatibility.""The should be more out-of-the-box models if UiPath keeps adding on.""There should be more growth, but the platform is there. As they grow those things they should take each piece and make it better. If you start with a good platform and you build it up, it's going to get better. What we have today is very usable, and is only going to get better. I look forward to it.""One way to improve the UiPath Academy, I think, would be to add some real life use cases and take the students through the automation process. These would be good for citizen developers to start with.""The testing and release schedule for Studio should be improved because we find that with two releases per year, one of the versions is stable and the other one is not."

Pricing and Cost Advice
  • "We were using the User Value Unit licensing, which means we get charged per active user of the system, and if I'm not mistaken, we also had it for the rule runner service. They had a PVU license model, which is a processor value unit. For each process that we have in our system, we pay a certain amount of money. We found the pricing to be quite steep. It was really an expensive solution in comparison to Kofax, which had a different licensing model and was actually cheaper overall because they charge per page and not per user and per process."
  • "If you want IBM Datacap on cloud, which is a service run by IBM, the price can be quite expensive, but if you want to just purchase the licenses and own those yourself, then the price is very competitive."
  • "It varies, and it depends on the client's requirements and negotiations. Nowadays, Datacap is also included in the IBM Cloud Pak for Business Automation."
  • "In Egypt, we have exchange rates that change year to year, and currently, we're facing an increase in the exchange rate between our Egyptian pound and the dollar. Since we have been using IBM DataCap two years ago we had a good price, it was not expensive. However, I cannot say now if it is expensive or not because of the exchange rate. Additionally, I don't have the data of other competitors and I don't know the prices."
  • "IBM could offer more competitive pricing. This would allow them to attain more users. Some of our clients are considering moving to a different solution called Encapture which is similar but offers more competitive pricing."
  • More IBM Datacap Pricing and Cost Advice →

  • "The pricing is average; it is not too high nor too low."
  • "The pricing is good compared to other software. Based on the features that UiPath is providing, and the community support, the price is reasonable."
  • "The licensing system is something that needs to be improved."
  • "The licensing is close to optimum; however, there is room for improvement in both the cost and flexibility of the licenses."
  • "If you want to start doing RPA, I think you should definitely go with UiPath because it has the Community edition. You can just install it and check whether or not your process works fine with UiPath. It will be an attended bot, but you can form an idea whether your bot can easily be automated."
  • "It is cost-effective and has an affordable price."
  • "The price of Orchestrator is pretty high in general as well as compared to other solutions, because Automation Anywhere does not charge for its Control Room."
  • "The licensing is too expensive. It is not a cheap product. We constantly have to build business cases where we have to justify our existence as an RPA team."
