Reliability and reasonable pricing enhance data center management
I researched on peerspot.com about IT solutions, specifically about HPE BladeSystem and HPE Synergy, because we are already using HP servers in our state data center. In HP Cloud System, we are using a converged infrastructure to connect LAN and SAN connectivity across the network. Regarding Virtual Connect technology, there is a noticeable impact on network management. For day-to-day operations, we use various applications such as Zoom and Microsoft Teams to connect virtually. Using HPE BladeSystem Virtual Connect technology in HP Cloud System, we achieve efficient network management with well-defined LAN and SAN connectivity. We already have a defined modular architecture in place designed by the HP team for our data center. My company name is National Institute for Smart Government, also called NISG, under the National e-Governance Division. My title is Technology Management Consultant. I would rate HPE BladeSystem as an eight out of ten.

With a perfect record for uptime, the solution ensures a return on investment
Since it is a legacy tool, there is a need to change it for flexibility. I think now it has improved because the security is very good. It is very secure for the performance of the machine critical application service, and it is very good. I don't know how to speak more on improvement needed because it's a good enough tool. However, depending on the application, it's limited. Not a lot of applications run on HPE NonStop. It is not flexible because I know that because of the compatibility of Java with HPE NonStop. When we are using Java, the performance is not good.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"The density of the BladeSystem, that we can keep adding blades as we need more VMs."
"Users with feedback in terms of workload performance have reported that a job that typically took 3 or 4 hours to run took a few minutes."
"I believe they are ahead of the other vendors (IBM, Dell and Cisco)."
"It's a lot easier than dealing with the rack mount servers and it is a lot faster."
"OA management: Easy to manage from one console."
"We are very happy with flexible NIC configuration features which are possible if you combine the BladeServers with HPE flex switches in the enclosures."
"The product has been simple to set up."
"When comparing the HPE ProLiant DL Servers to the HPE BladeSystem, the HPE BladeSystems are compact and need less space for installation, can provide the same computing as the HPE ProLiant DL Servers in the same unit, and are a lot easier to manage."
"If you are contemplating a fault-tolerant, high uptime transaction processing machine with above normal transactions volumes - to act as a transaction server with infrequent changes to code - and you simply must have bulletproof performance - this might be the ticket."
"Because we're able to get immediate support, this prevents downtime and directly impacts cost savings."
"They've been very reliable since we started using them in 1978, but we're going to replace them in a few years."
"Technical support is A++. If there is a problem, HPE will fix it."
"The HPE NonStop solution is rated with the highest level of availability in the industry."
"The stability of HPE NonStop is good."
"It helps us to keep the business running 24/7."
"It is a nearly perfect product, although it also has some restrictions and short comings."

Cons

"The interface in terms of management could be much more intuitive."
"I would like to see the upgrade path a little bit smoother. We can't pull the servers from the current Blade over to the NonStop system because of the different connectors."
"One of the issues we have is firmware on virtual connects; there's a little bit of overlap on the timing that, if you're not careful, can cause a short outage for the BladeSystem."
"The tool must provide integration with the cloud."
"It's pretty scalable, but then again, it's pretty old. It's not as scalable as the Cisco Blades that we currently have, but I'm not going to knock it because of that, it's just because it's old it doesn't have all the technology that Cisco has right now."
"For me, the product is okay, but I would probably suggest improvement in their services or technical support. They need to work harder in the preventative maintenance of the system. They need to improve in terms of how quickly can we get attention and how quickly problems are resolved. Its price could also be lower."
"The price of the solution has room for improvement."
"BladeSystem is an old-fashioned server and not very well developed for new features and new areas of data centers, which is not very good for enterprise companies."
"It is not flexible...Not a lot of applications run on HPE NonStop."
"The NonStop Support Center is very good, with an occasional bump in the road."
"Currently the NonStop platform doesn’t support virtualization of servers or CPU’s. Only storage."
"The initial setup is complex. You need the help of a consultant for it to go smoothly."
"The hardware fails often, and I feel that HP really needs to pay more attention to this issue."
"NonStop (formerly known as Tandem) in the Guardian OS could use another, friendlier macro language."
"I would never advise someone to buy or to implement the new NonStop because it's hard to find skilled people."
"If pushed, then the only thing I can think of would be utilities provided by the vendor."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"Add OneView and ILO advanced to the base product. Don’t adjust the price, but just include them."
"The price of HPE BladeSystem could improve. They need to reduce the price to be able to compete better with other vendors, such as Dell."
"There is a one-time purchase for the HPE BladeSystem."
"I would recommend this solution for large enterprises. Medium-sized companies would find it difficult to afford the HPE BladeSystem's overall capital expenses."
"Their licensing program is pretty simple."
"It is expensive. There are no additional costs. We are able to get good discounts anyway from HPE, but if the price can come down, we'll be happy."
"The licensing is on an annual basis."
"The price for HPE BladeSystem can vary between $100,000 to $1 million or above. The price can be high."
"The price of the solution is too high. If they lowered the price substantially it would open up more opportunities. It's considered a replacement for the old 9000 boxes of HP. If it had a lower price, we would be able to compete in the financial, and other sectors and other solutions such as Terraform. Having a high price makes other solutions more attractive."
"HPE NonStop is definitely on the higher end."
"On a scale of one to ten, where one is very cheap, and ten is very expensive, I rate the pricing an eight."
