Automate has streamlined workflows and increased efficiency with powerful automation
The best features of the solution are the flexible automation features, it is rich with beautiful connectors, and it is easy to use with little to no coding knowledge required to get started, so anybody can use the tool. The intuitive interface of Automate has an intuitive design, which makes it easy to learn and use even without a strong technical background, and it has a drag-and-drop interface, which makes everything so easy and straightforward. The error handling capabilities in complex automation tasks are powerful, as it handles all types of tasks, whether complex or simple. I've never faced any problems even when dealing with complex tasks, so everything is super smooth and highly reliable, even when dealing with big tasks, as it has never slowed down. Automate's compatibility with existing IT infrastructure has impacted our business operations positively by providing smooth integration with other software that we use, such as Gmail, Jira, and Microsoft 365 apps, which gives us a unified platform instead of having to keep switching from one software to another, saving a lot of time and streamlining the whole workflows. The automated analytics have helped improve our business processes since it has increased our efficiency by automating our everyday tasks, freeing up time for us to focus more on strategic activities such as analyzing data and developing new business strategies. It is also cost-saving. By minimizing manual labor, it decreases human errors that can lead to costly mistakes. By automating the tasks, it helps to save costs, and it also improves our accuracy by reducing these errors to ensure that tasks are done almost perfectly.

Stable with good cross-integration between modules, but the training needs to be improved
We mainly use UiPath as our RPA platform. I have looked at several other solutions that include the bigger ones, Blue Prism, and Automation Anywhere. We have experience in developing bots in all three of these. It is difficult to move from UiPath to EdgeVerve when UiPath is so good at getting people in the door. They've got a great ecosystem and a great training model. Every other system is more challenging to use. To get an EdgeVerve license, for example, you need to have an NDA in place to use it. Blue Prism is even worse, although, with them, you just have to pay more money. By not democratizing the software and the way to utilize it, smaller companies like EdgeVerve and even Blue Prism, to a certain extent, have suffered in terms of growth. The three leaders at the top do a pretty good job. Outside of workflow, they do a pretty good job, and that's why the customers buy, so you have to be strong on those. As far as the tools are concerned, RPA is RPA, and everybody generally does it in the same way. What is probably going to start distinguishing between products is the use of AI. When AI really overtakes the selectors for RDA, robotic desktop automation, when you have to really rely on the backdrop of the DOM to get at the element, the use of AI and more efficient on-prem AI solutions is going to really make that a better experience. The on-premises distinction is important because there's latency when you hit the cloud. Ultimately, to me, the toolsets are all the same. Drag and drop, the ability to create custom activities in terms of creating your libraries, and that kind of thing, they're all there. This past year has been ridiculous in terms of how all of the tools have progressed. What they were a year ago versus what they are today, is a considerable and significant difference. For example, I have totally redesigned my solutions and architectures over the past year.

Desktop development has become faster and improves automation results
My thoughts on UiPath Platform's user community suggest that a lot of content seems outdated and old now that gets referenced. The community experience for the AI is limited because putting the error codes into the community search field doesn't return many results. However, a lot of information from pre-AI, before 2022, is still accurate and helpful, but the cutting-edge content just isn't in the community yet. There should be better training on UiPath Platform. I wish I could search UiPath IXP training and have a course pull up as the first result without having to dig through a bunch of links, dead-end links, and random things. Easier access for training would be ideal.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"It gives us a central place to schedule tasks and run them distributed."
"I would recommend Automate because it has made my work much easier."
"I would rate the technical support as a nine out of ten because it is quite fast and courteous."
"A great feature that you seldom see in these kind of systems is the ability to use a database as trigger to launch a task. This is something I asked for a few years ago and that was added."
"The peace of mind I have using Automate for scheduling tasks allows me to focus on other responsibilities without worrying about operational issues."
"The automated analytics have helped improve our business processes since it has increased our efficiency by automating our everyday tasks, freeing up time for us to focus more on strategic activities such as analyzing data and developing new business strategies."
"Fortra's Automate performs the job effectively and has the capability to alert us of any issues."
"Compared to other vendors, it's the scheduling tool because a lot of vendors want to charge you extra for their enterprise-level license to have a scheduling tool built in to give you the ability to set up regular schedules to run and do certain data checks."
"I would say that the cross-integration between different modules, such as between the OCR, RPA, and ML, is the most valuable feature."
"Document processing is a valuable feature in UiPath."
"We seen have operational cost reductions. We have improved our efficiency and capabilities."
"The user interface guide helps speed up automation development for customers."
"Orchestrator lets you start a credential stair, so you can get the credentials in a safe way. Before this, they were afraid that credentials would be stored somewhere and people could see them. I think it's really important for our customers that you can do that in Orchestrator. The scheduling feature is also valuable of course."
"UiPath has a very good user interface, and the automation is a great feature. New users can easily understand UiPath."
"The differentiation between unattended and attended bots is valuable, as well as being able to do portions of a process that are unattended coupled with portions that are attended. We can get human interaction, all within the same product."
"To build automation using UiPath is fairly simple. The studio is quite easy to use. Even now, with the community edition, it’s great."
"The most important part of Studio is the debugging feature. It gives you the ability to watch local variables, as well as highlight elements as it is moving through the process. The results of actions are displayed and indicate whether particular actions are performed successfully or not."

Cons

"I believe we need to test various OCR tools that assist in evaluating, let's say, six different customer resyncs. We analyze their spending patterns and documentations, but current OCR support has limitations, requiring highly standardized documents, which isn't always the case. With a more advanced OCR system, we could improve processes related to credit risk management and legal matters. We're exploring how to integrate Fortra's Automate with our CRM platform, taking cues from instances where Salesforce seamlessly merged with Automate. However, we use a different CRM, Insight for New Enterprise, and we're seeking ways to connect the automation process within our CRM. We aim for the automation to continue smoothly, even in instances where traditional automation methods might face hurdles."
"The intelligent automation feature could be improved. It's interesting because it's simple, but the automation quality isn't always good. It's easy to use, but sometimes you need to make a slight improvement to the automation, and that's not so easy."
"Some challenges include the system being too loaded or delayed in taking instructions and responding quickly as needed."
"Error messages should be better. For error status, there should be better documentation because a lot of times, error messages that you get are quite vague. For example, you get a message saying that the workflow has run into an unknown status, which is vague. It just tells you that it failed, but you don't know how or why it failed. It makes debugging difficult."
"The technical support could be better. We suffer from language barriers, as we are in Argentina."
"I would prefer not having to log in to update a ticket; being able to respond via email would be beneficial."
"There is room for improvement regarding cloud functionality; there are a few missing features, and the logging could be better, especially air logging. We can go into logging events and create our own task, but it would be nice if this were more detailed."
"Currently, there are many instances where I see empty logs, indicating that, while tasks are scheduled, commands are not executing successfully."
"Better training and better accessibility of the tools are the things that need to be improved."
"Studio needs to be more user-friendly, maybe it could be integrated with an AI."
"My thoughts on UiPath Platform's user community suggest that a lot of content seems outdated and old now that gets referenced."
"Improving financial and recording operations through the use of charts would be advantageous."
"We've tried to use test automation, however, I'm not sure how well it works."
"UiPath can improve its AI and optical character recognition or OCR."
"I would like to see more options in terms of configuration."
"I don't know if it's UiPath as much as just what we do which is really complicated. Even the consultants that we've used with UiPath had said, "wow, this is very difficult what you guys do." There are a lot of moving parts. It's not as much of a UiPath issue. It's just our own processes."
"There should be a click-event-update activity present in the UI Studio where we can click a link and the result should act as a button."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"I'm only involved in running the product and maintaining the systems, so I can't speak to the cost."
"While solutions like UiPath and Blue Prism cost around $11,000-$12,000 for each license, this product costs around $7,000 and you can keep it forever."
"From a distributor's perspective, one of the biggest selling points of Automate is its price point."
"The pricing is quite reasonable. We can run the process with one bot. The limitation is at the server level because they have some resources, and sometimes that is enough. It isn't too expensive, so you can get a good return off of one, and you can also have a pack of five bots that is quite competitive."
"The cost is a bit high for a small business like ours, but we manage with Fortra's Automate."
"From a distributor's side, one of the biggest selling points is its price point. Without going into any numbers, compared to UiPath, Automation Anywhere, and Blue Prism, we're significantly cheaper. The main difference is that other competitors usually charge you per process. However, in Automate's case, it's priced per bot. So, a bot can run multiple processes at the same time, but you are only priced for a single bot."
"I like the way this solution is priced because you can buy a license, or you can buy the software outright."
"Once you buy the software, you just pay for the support for backend help."

"There is some initial sticker shock from a lot of people regarding cost, until you show them what the actual benefit is. Initially, people are just going, "Why?" So, the retort for that is, "Look how much you will save, time, and budget-wise with one bot. If one bot costs X, this is how much it will save you over one year. This alleviates the "Oh my gosh" face, when it's 1200 dollars for a bot."
"If you purchase an Orchestrator then it's pricey but you receive the benefit that it runs many processes simultaneously."
"The licensing mechanism allows us to share licenses between different users."
"The setup cost is minimal as far as other options are considered."
"The cost depends on how many licenses are needed and how bots are used. Right now there is no solution that is less expensive."
"The pricing for UiPath is reasonable."
"I was not involved in the pricing negotiations, but as far as I understand, my team was happy with the pricing. So, I assume that its price is moderate and competitive. It isn't highly-priced."
"It used to come at a high cost, but now it's more budget-friendly."
