AI-driven insights have reduced downtime and improved cross-team collaboration
We encountered some challenges while using Dynatrace. Although the initial setup was smooth, fine-tuning alert thresholds and custom metrics took some time. Another challenge was that Dynatrace charges based on host units, so we had to carefully plan our agent deployments. The licensing model is expensive. Additionally, the complexity of setup is an issue. While OneAgent and auto-discover services are powerful, the setup is more complex compared to other tools such as Prometheus and Grafana. These integrations are simple and basic, but Dynatrace setup requires more complexity based on the environment. For new users wanting to use Dynatrace, it is difficult. However, the AI-related solutions and metrics took us to the next level for identifying and fixing things. Dynatrace requires an agent for operation. OneAgent is powerful, but it is also resource-heavy. On lightweight nodes or older systems, the agent can slightly impact performance. If Dynatrace could implement a lightweight agent behavior, we could make things faster. Additionally, if Dynatrace could add a long-term retention policy so that we could store more data and find fine-grained details, that would help us. While Dynatrace managed edition supports on-premises deployment, the SaaS version depends on cloud connectivity. For highly regulated or air-gapped environments, setup and updates can be challenging. Although the initial setup is smooth, if someone wants to fine-tune it and fully understand the tool end-to-end, it could be tricky.

I've evaluated Splunk and IBM Q1 but LogLogic is the best choice for log management. SIEM functionality needs improvement.
If you are searching for log management solution, LogLogic is probably the best choice. The SIEM functionality is not at that level, and I suggest instead to choose another SIEM solution (eg: IBM Q1). In my experience, a good practice is to separate log management from SIEM in a way that they are two separate systems.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"The most valuable features for me are the dashboard panels because they enable you to monitor multiple applications in one single site."
"Dynatrace helps in that we can easily get one view, correlate, and everything will be one single pane."
"Improves the ability to isolate issues and determine root cause with the same tool."
"Dynatrace has great training available. It is easy for everybody to use. Anybody can go out to YouTube, watch a video, and figure out how to use the piece that they need."
"Logs files for JVM transactions help to debug most of the failures."
"Overall, it's a good platform."
"Capability to troubleshoot isolated customer complaints with the user session feature."
"We can report and monitor on specific use cases which could not be monitored with SAP or other tooling."
"Having logs in a central location helps with troubleshooting, forensic investigations, and legal investigations."
"If you are searching for log management solution, LogLogic is probably the best choice."

Cons

"The licensing part is complicated or not transparent. It is very difficult to assess the number of licenses for a prospect. You have to do a PoC, and calculating the number of licenses for two years or three years is sometimes very difficult. It also depends on each case. There are multiple types of licenses. Sometimes, you need only one of them, and sometimes, you need all of them. This is an area for improvement."
"The other feature that Dynatrace should have is - from what I see in Dynatrace in our PoC - when you auto-upgrade the agents, the JVM or the application has to be restarted."
"Right now, we are struggling a bit with stability. We have outages, data loss, and have had to restart, but have not narrowed down exactly what the problem is yet."
"Ease of use could be improved because it can be hard to determine how you made it to the screen you are on and how to get back to it later."
"The one area that we get value out of now, where we would love to see additional features, is the Session Replay."
"The AppMon product hasn't been historically as scalable."
"While designing the business dashboard, I encountered various bugs that impacted my work."
"It needs more dashboards like AppMon."
"Customer Service: On a scale of 1-5, 0. They say the right things but don't deliver when it counts."
"Definitely SIEM – other vendors have gone a lot further in developing SIEM functionality and made a lot more in this area."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"Licensing is a bit complicated for Dynatrace, and pricing is dependent on how much your organization invests."
"This is an expensive solution, but it is also worth the money."
"We found an issue within the first week of ownership that has been costing us more than the entire license cost."
"The cost is somewhat high."
"The licensing for Dynatrace is high. If you want to go for monitoring solutions, then why Dynatrace? If you have a particular budget, you can go for many other monitoring tools - apart from Dynatrace - and they can help you more and give more data than Dynatrace can. It's not worth the money that you spend for Dynatrace."
"Surprisingly, it is quite expensive. That is something that we could always see: Improved pricing and the overall construct on how do we use each license in regards to usage of the tool."
"There was also some complexity in the adoption rate of it because of how costly the licensing is."
"The pricing is a little high, but still cheaper than competitors because Dynatrace at least has pay-as-you-go. Others do not. However, the pricing is confusing. I wish it was more simplified when trying to price out moving to a yearly contract."
