Has supported flexible multi-platform backups and improved over time
Regarding the effectiveness of Dell NetWorker in terms of role-based access controls, I have experience with it, but I find it somewhat lacking in flexibility as it offers limited features, and I would rate it around seven out of ten. It is not that there is something wrong with the role-based access controls in Dell NetWorker, but it lacks many permissions or roles to assign, providing options only for administrator or user. To improve Dell NetWorker for the next release, I recommend enhancing flexibility in the policy, allowing selection of multiple options within the same policy, and addressing issues like the DNS lookup dependency to make it more controllable from Dell NetWorker itself rather than relying on other applications. Looking forward, I would like to see improved policy features and a more enhanced GUI, as it is still slow.

A competitive and balanced solution that offers solid performance at a reasonable price
I worked very closely with ExaGrid in Singapore. We are trying to build up the market for ExaGrid in Vietnam. We hope to be a big distributor for ExaGrid and that the picture will improve next year. Regarding the technology of ExaGrid, they have a landing zone, and now it's a very exhaustive solution, especially compared with Dell Data Domain and HPE. HPE offers normal storage without any special solution. Dell has DD Boost, and so the performance is high. On that basis, I rate the ExaGrid Tiered Backup Storage number with an overall score of eight out of ten. People might be more familiar with Data Domain or StoreOnce. And if people want a professional solution, there are only three brands.

Pros

"The backup software has been much faster since we've deployed the solution."
"The main advantages of the product are price and support."
"Dell EMC NetWorker is scalable."
"Support for various operating systems, we use, AIX, Solaris, Linux, VMware, and Windows Excellent deduplication with Data Domain Boost A good user interface, so we can, from a single console, manage the entire backup infrastructure"
"The solution has a longer lifespan."
"It's a very good solution if you are using an Oracle-like environment."
"The standout feature of Dell NetWorker is its expertise in handling our VMware environment."
"The compression ratio is very flexible for designing all the required policies for backup."
"I like the performance of the restore feature."

Cons

"NetWorker isn't scalable - you can't add more nodes to it, although you can add some data zones."
"I would like to see the user interface improved, more documentation, faster support, and it could be easier to configure."
"I would not recommend Dell EMC NetWorker, as the product will end in a few years."
"The tool should be more streamlined and simplified to create a backup to receive objects."
"We encountered challenges during the solution's deployment, particularly integrating our database system and Microsoft Exchange. This area needs improvement."
"They need to take off the tape and allow us to use different repositories in order to keep the data for five to 10 years."
"Currently, the NetWorker server only supports the Windows server bare-metal recovery, so an improvement would be built-in support for Linux and UNIX BMR."
"They cannot perform an incremental backup using VSS technology for SharePoint or MS SQL Server."
"We have to do a lot of POC to show why ExaGrid is good."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"Dell NetWorker is an expensive solution. None of the backup products are cheap. The licensing model offered is usually a five-year one."
"Earlier, users had to make yearly payments towards the licensing costs of the product. The licenses were expensive but users used to get the best device to use."
"You have to buy the deduplication software separately from the license."
"If you purchase Avamar, NetWorker is free with Avamar, for one terabyte license capacity."
"The pricing is okay."
"The licensing model can be traditional licensing or capacity-based licensing."
"It's approximate, but I believe we pay around $20-30,000 a month in licensing."
"Dell NetWorker has two types of licensing models."
"ExaGrid is a one-time investment."
