Quotes From Members
We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"Scalable portfolio of services for remote device management, with good cloud integration. It's also easy to set up.""I like Intersight because of the integration with HashiCorp, Kubernetes, and each cloud because Intersight is the IO module.""The product has good integration.""We enjoy having an inside view of all the data centers and all the EdgeX nodes within a single portal rather than going into the EdgeX connections one by one."

"The blueprints and templates are very nice and easy to use. They are very valuable because we can configure the entirety of an environment as a template and reuse it multiple times.""Previous inquiries took us almost a full day to prepare the VM to the liking of our users. Now the deployment time is below 15 minutes and users can do it on their own! That leaves us to only update the blueprints if new requirements come in or new Windows Versions are published. As we have now predefined setups the testing team can rely on common ground for their product tests. Development teams can experiment with alpha versions in a secured environment (separate VLANs) without harming production machines.""We use Calm's one-click self-service feature and it's really transforming the team's efficiency. The teams are used to being reactive, which is typical of what you find in IT organizations and service providers. Customers run into problems and teams react. What we're trying to do is reduce that slope and be more proactive in approach. The one-click ability is enabling us to take some of those activities and put them into operation, versus people manually responding.""I really like the Nutanix Marketplace a lot. We publish standard workloads there and that, in combination with the Projects, allows for self-service, which is the most powerful feature of Calm."

Cons
"It's a very complex solution.""The unique problem with Cisco Intersight is that it's not supporting some players.""Cisco Intersight needs some improvement in terms of stability. Hybrid cloud management and proper hyperscaler tie-up are other areas for improvement.""When new features are added, the service becomes full of bugs."

More Cisco Intersight Cons →

"There is room for improvement in the remote script execution. The way logs are shown in Calm, it's not always keeping up properly. It's really the interface that needs attention there. I believe it is something being worked on at the moment by Nutanix.""While there are multiple clouds supported, we want less friction around the ease of delivery. We want the ability to integrate other clouds, unify the accounts.""One thing that comes directly to mind is how they manage version control. I would love to see Calm create a built-in source control feature, one that we could tie into a repository and it would self-manage changes in versions. All the version control is built within Calm right now. I would love to see that integrated with an external repository and make it easy to tie it into GitHub or Git repositories.""The list of blueprints and applications could be more configurable so you see all the fields you need and not just some predefined fields which are not customizable now."

Pricing and Cost Advice
  • "Cisco Intersight is not cheap, but it's not the most expensive product either."
  • "It's just the standard licensing cost. There are no additional fees."
  • More Cisco Intersight Pricing and Cost Advice →

  • "You will see great value from it if you utilize the self-service part of Calm. The price you pay for it will only give you equal value if you use the self-service part to enable other teams. If you only use it as a deployment mechanism, I think it's rather expensive."

    Overview

Cisco Intersight is Cisco’s systems management platform that delivers intuitive computing through cloud-powered intelligence. This platform offers a more intelligent level of management that enables IT organizations to analyze, simplify, and automate their environments in ways that were not possible with prior generations of tools. This capability empowers organizations to achieve significant savings in Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) and to deliver applications faster, so they can support new business initiates. The advantages of the model-based management of the Cisco UCS platform plus Cisco Intersight are extended to Cisco UCS servers and Cisco HyperFlex and Cisco HyperFlex Edge systems. Cisco HyperFlex Edge is optimized for remote sites, branch offices, and edge environments.

Nutanix Calm is a multi-cloud software management platform that allows users to seamlessly choose, distribute, and manage business applications throughout an infrastructure. Integrated into the platform are lifecycle management and application automation. Users have the ability to control all features of the application’s lifecycle and can define applications through simple blueprints that can be created using industry-standard skills. These blueprints are generated through code with a Python-based DSL or through UI.

Once a blueprint is created, Calm users can easily publish them to end users through the Nutanix Marketplace, which will immediately revamp an intricate provisioning ticket into a straightforward one-click request. Nutanix Calm provides users with improved agility while eliminating human errors, application development and modernization, unified multi-cloud coordination, and automated self-service with centralized control. In addition, the software offers a user-friendly and interactive GUI to assist in managing infrastructures more easily.

    Key Benefits of Nutanix Calm

    • Improved agility - Eliminate human errors with improved agility and coordinate throughout containers, VMs, and cloud services to create any application.

    • End-to-end automation - End-to-end automation of applications helps with scaling, managing, and removing IT bottlenecks.

    Reviews from Real Users

Nutanix Calm is a software of choice for developers looking for an application that supports automation and lifecycle management, which are both integrated into the platform. Users particularly like the blueprints and templates, as well as the Nutanix Marketplace.

Sudarshan S., a leader of environments and automation at a financial services firm, notes, "The blueprints and templates are very nice and easy to use. They are very valuable because we can configure the entirety of an environment as a template and reuse it multiple times."

Fabian S., an infrastructure consultant at Vopak, writes, "I really like the Nutanix Marketplace a lot. We publish standard workloads there and that, in combination with the Projects, allows for self-service, which is the most powerful feature of Calm."

"The scripting, where you can use libraries, is a valuable feature.... When we create a machine, we use IPAM from Infoblox and we can get an IP address. It's one platform to script and we can then use all the APIs to complete the scripts. It gives us a central management tool from which we can do a lot of things automatically," explains Ilan S, Project Manager at a healthcare company.
