Enhances web security with a single pane of glass and flexible deployment
I don't see any need for improvement; one of the really good things about iboss as a company is that they listen to customer feedback. I have suggested enhancements, and they are responsive, making changes for the better, and they do a lot of testing. To improve iboss, although we haven't used it, we considered the VPN solution that comes with the highest tier licensing, which includes DLP and various other add-ons. We prefer using another product which automatically logs you back onto your network when turning on your PC. With iboss, the connection is manual, which doesn't meet our needs. Additionally, sizing can be tricky because, although the initial recommendations may seem adequate, actual usage may require more gateways than anticipated.

Has strengthened content control and visibility through web filtering and DLP integration
The best features Check Point Web Gateway offers are antivirus, anti-bot, and DLP. These are the main features, along with real-time threat visibility which I can see in the dashboard. I rely mostly on the DLP functionality and real-time threat capabilities of Check Point Web Gateway because it provides me with detailed reports showing what user or sensitive information has been uploaded via the web and any violations that have occurred. There are predefined policies built into Check Point Web Gateway itself, so I receive reports with DLP details and user information. In terms of real-time threat protection, it prevents malicious URLs and phishing domains, which provides complete protection to my organization. These two or three features of Check Point Web Gateway stand out in my organization. After the implementation of Check Point Web Gateway, I have seen significant changes in terms of reports, policies, and integration with Active Directory. The solution is very good.

A stable solution with an intuitive interface and quick customer service
I have been working with Fortinet FortiGate, WatchGuard, Sophos, and SonicWall. I'm not as comfortable with SonicWall because of their UI and limitations. I prefer Fortinet above all other options. When it comes to configuration, I am confident in my ability to handle various tasks, including creating policies such as firewall rules, web policies, and application policies. Additionally, I can configure VPNs and implement load balancing, among other tasks. Overall, I feel much more comfortable working with Fortinet. Fortinet has made significant improvements by integrating AI with firewalls for threat analysis and prevention. In the past 2-3 years, they have launched FortiSASE and SIEM, and they also provide SOC services. Both Palo Alto and Fortinet FortiGate are excellent. While Fortinet FortiGate comes at higher prices, the functionality and support justify the cost. They promptly resolve firmware issues and inform all support providers about configuration changes.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"Granular setup, which was able to set different levels of filters using the OUs in the AD."
"The security aspect of the solution, particularly the malware behind it, is excellent. That's something that really helped us out. It's not just a simple proxy that just blocks the insights of potential threats that come on behind it. They do malware detection and that helps us a lot."
"Iboss is a solution that prevents advanced persistent threats, and has a zero tolerance for attacks."
"Valuable features: Within the filter: Controls (Web categories, applications, and Allow/Block list) and Network (local Subnets). Within the reporter: Logs (Event Log) and Reports."
"Because of iboss, I did not have to assign web filtering tasks to my techs on a daily basis."
"This product is solid, fairly easy to use, and reliable."
"Content filtering is the most useful feature of iboss."
"I would rate the technical support of iboss a solid 10 without a shadow of a doubt."
"Application control allows the administrator to create granular policies based on users to allow, block, or limit access."
"The stability of the tool is very good."
"It filters the URLs by reputation, denying access to those proven to be harmful and inspecting those which haven't been flagged yet to detect threats before the user can enter it."
"We are satisfied with the effectiveness of the multi-layered defense approach in Check Point Web Gateway."
"The interface is simply amazing."
"The most valuable features of Check Point Web Gateway are all the IPS. However, what matters for users is content and web filtering."
"It offers good security and we use it when we want to implement the best security in an organization due to the fact that it gives us broader visibility."
"Application control gives IT teams an opportunity to set suitable policies that can be used by all teams when coding."
"The main value comes from the simplicity of the product in terms of configuring and managing."
"The Fortinet FortiGate IPS has a good interface and integration."
"Fortinet FortiGate is a stable solution."
"Advanced routing (RIP, OSPF, BGP, PBR). It gives you a seamless and simple integration into a large network."
"We are very well satisfied with the Fortinet technical support."
"The most valuable features are SD-WAN, application control, IPS control, and FortiSandbox."
"Fortinet offers the latest versions to cater to the needs of enterprises."
"I am "headache free" that I don't have to categorize all the websites and that security has been pre categorized by the people, and that the services are getting updated. At least one part of my problem is over."

Cons

"Sometimes when you call in support, you get someone who is just following a sheet. It feels like a runaround. You feel that you are running into that support wall."
"One thing I would like to see differently with their Zero Trust platform is that some of the AI aspects related to high-risk activities have more false positives."
"Iboss is growing so fast that it is often hard for them to keep up with the challenges."
"SSL decryption: We had issues with learners using apps instead of using web browsers."
"I am currently doing a PoC of the zero trust aspect of it. Compared to other similar solutions, it is hard to get around each feature. It takes a while to get used to it."
"If they could implement an extra security layer preventing access to iboss from the open internet, it would be great."
"File integrity monitoring would be very advantageous as an additional feature."
"The reporting feature needs improvement. It doesn't give you the expected results. It is quite difficult to get the specific reports needed, and it is not as intuitive as the rest of the platform."
"It is expensive. Its price should be better."
"Their product coverage is not as extensive as some competitors. They have fewer products and features compared to competitors."
"There should be an improvement in interface integration."
"The support must be faster."
"Some documents needed to implement with the best practices are difficult to understand, take longer than expected to apply, and sometimes even require support."
"It is not user-friendly."
"What I don't appreciate about Check Point Web Gateway is that sometimes we encounter problems with them asking too many questions."
"The tool's stability needs improvement. The biggest problem is with updates."
"This product needs to have an analysis feature, rather than having the analysis done through the integration of a different product."
"In the next release, maybe the documentation on how to use this solution could be improved."
"The command line is complicated, and the interface could be better."
"One of the features that I would like to have is to do with endpoint production, it should be integrated. For example, the firewall gets notified of any kind of forensic event that needs to be done, such as if there is a ransomware attack and how it originated, all those records have to be available from the firewall, which is not."
"We also have FortiAnalyzer deployed here, so we want to enable the soft functionality of FortiGate and built-in compression for a firewall VPN use case. We want the ability to deploy a gateway for HTTPS enabled on this firewall. It is currently only for use in our headquarters."
"To the best of my knowledge, Fortinet does not have a CASB solution and Fortinet does not have a Zero trust solution."
"The support package being an additional extra, even with an enterprise package purchase, is pathetic. Though I haven't had direct experience with support, the fact that it doesn't come by default, which is very misleading compared to other brands, warrants a rating of two out of ten."
"They could simplify their deployment process, especially when customers have existing devices."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"It is expensive compared to one of its competitors."
"We had the cost of purchasing a new appliance along with the implementation and licensing costs. However, the following year, the cost of just licensing was similar to what was paid the previous year for a new appliance along with the implementation and licensing costs."
"It is probably in line with other solutions, but I do not deal with the financial side."
"It is not expensive, and it is also not cheap. iboss is priced right in the sweet spot for the number of features it offers."
"The overall pricing for iboss is very competitive and transparent."
"We have not priced the solution recently, but they were competitive with other vendors in the past."
"The price is very high."
"It is expensive. Licensing is on a yearly basis. You need to do the support subscription."
"If one is cheap and ten is expensive, I rate the tool's price as a seven out of ten."
"There is a need to make yearly payments towards the licensing charges attached to the product. The product is neither too expensive nor too cheap, so it comes at a good price point for my company."
"Our customers pay a licensing fee annually or once in three or five years, per their requirements."
"This program is very, very expensive."
"The product is not cheap. It is expensive."
"The price is on the higher side, even when compared to Azure Firewall Premium."
"The product is not very expensive."
"It is quite affordable for our customers. There is a separate cost for IPS, antivirus, web filtering, and other features. They have a great choice of licenses. You can go for the license that you want, which is quite useful."
"We pay about $4,000 for a yearly license, and there aren't any additional fees."
"I would rate the pricing a six out of ten, where one is cheap and ten is expensive."
"It is more expensive than Sophos. Fortinet is overall more expensive than Sophos. The small range of Fortinet, such as 60F and 80F, is more expensive than the small range of Sophos. Sophos is cheaper. In addition, if you jump from 80F Series to 100F Series, the price doubles."
"The price of Fortinet FortiGate could improve, it is expensive."
"The pricing is fair."
"It is an expensive solution."

Sophos UTM vs. Fortinet FortiGate
I have used both Sophos and Fortinet products in production and I have found the Sophos UTM appliances (hardware and virtual) to be a better fit most of the time -- with a few caveats which I will touch on below. In both instances, the transition from TMG will be mostly straightforward. The main…
