Has supported faster test execution and increased flexibility while offering room to improve support responsiveness
Reducing the levels of support is something they could continue to improve. They tend to have an entry-level person that may not be as familiar with the product that fields the calls, which creates another day of delay to get to the level that's needed. This is a common practice across most companies where you call, you get the entry-level person, and then they work their way up to help screen calls so that they are more focused.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"CA technical support and DevTest community people love to respond and come up with a number of suggestions, which is really appreciated."
"CA Service Virtualization is an amazing solution, very easy to use, easy to train others on how to take advantage of it."
"One of the things I like about it is it actually does what it claims to do."
"Yes, I have used similar solutions from two other vendors but love the UI, and ease of use of CA Service Virtualization."
"We needed one tool to do it all, and this fit the bill."
"Service Virtualization provides a different world of opportunities in SOA testing, which helps us to provide a better SOA solution to clients."
"We are able to quickly scale our requests. We have tested across thousands of requests. We have had no problems so far."
"The CAI aka Pathfinder is a great capability and will help the organization to achieve SV goals and expand the SV to different systems without many firewall changes or changes in the existing environment setup."
"It helps us consolidate our efforts."
"I was able to reduce regression and functional test times by 80%."
"On a scale of one to ten, I would give OpenText UFT One a 10 because it is a reliable product, it works, it's as good or better than similar solutions especially because you get technical support from real people. Additionally, upgrades are always provided on a consistent basis."
"As with any test automation tool, the ability to run repeatable tests unattended during off hours saves lots of manual testing hours."
"It's easy to use for beginners and non-technical people."
"The OpenText solution is the best of breed and the best solution on the market for large customers."
"UFT provides Business Process Testing from within UFT, using the native UFT user interface."
"I like the fact that you can record and play the record of your step scripts, and UFT One creates the steps for you in the code base."

Cons

"We need to get more and more types of services because this is a multidisciplinary platform."
"One major feature I would like to see is on the user administration part. Right now, anybody can access any of the folders and any of the projects."
"I think the biggest improvement can come in usability. It's still very complex to use."
"It does require a higher level of support. This is not the kind of tool that you can just haul off just go make decisions on."
"For our current needs, it's doing what we need right now, although it should automatically generate tests to further make our development to implementation process more efficient."
"Licensing definitely needs more flexible models. Too many complicated parameters also makes it difficult for us to explain them to our customers."
"We once faced issues when we moved from 4.2 to 4.7 or 5. They completely changed the UI and there is very little support for backward compatibility."
"Parsers, look and feel need improvement."
"Scripting has become more complex from a maintenance standpoint to support additional browsers."
"It could work with more browsers other than Internet Explorer, and could better handle new things like Ext JS."
"The solution is 70-80% stable. Stability really depends on the servers or the license which we have installed."
"The user interface could be improved"
"Sometimes it appears that UFT takes a while to open and sometimes will run slower than expected. Also, UFT uses a lot of memory."
"Additionally, there are hanging issues where it becomes unresponsive, which can be improved."
"The solution does not have proper scripting."
"[Tech support is] not a 10 because what happens with some of our issues is that we might not get a patch quickly and we have to hold on to an application until we get a proper solution."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"I think the pricing is quite fair because this solution provides a lot of functionalities, and is quite stable."
"There is a yearly licensing cost, and I would give it a four out of five."
"There are additional fees for advanced-level technical support."
"I don't have the exact dollar amount, but we have spent close to $1,000,000 for a three-year agreement, for an enterprise level."
"Compared to other products, the solution is very expensive."
"The pricing of the product is an issue."
"OpenText UFT One is a very expensive solution."
"The way the pricing model works is that you pay a whole boatload year one. Then, every year after, it is around half or less. Because instead of paying for the new product, you are just paying for the support and maintenance of it. That is probably one of the biggest things that I hear from most people, even at conferences, "Yeah, I would love to use UFT One, but we don't have a budget for it.""
"For the price of five automation licenses, you simply would not be able to hire five manual testers for two years worth of 24/7 manual testing work on demand."
"The tool's price is high."
"It took about five years to break even. UFT is costly."
"There are no additional costs involved apart from the standard license."
