Impressive automation capabilities, predicts problems, and even find unseen vulnerabilities across your infrastructure
The biggest challenge is ensuring the customer has sufficient ITSM maturity to get the most out of the solution. BMC Helix is very sophisticated, and some clients lack that internal process maturity. There's sometimes a gap between the solution's capabilities and the client's readiness. We have to bridge that gap, bringing the customer up to the level where they can fully use all the features and benefits. Otherwise, they're investing in a powerful tool they don't fully utilize. It's crucial for vendors like us to assess client maturity before the project starts. We need to do the consulting work to show them the solution's potential and help them evaluate if it truly makes sense. Sometimes, the client might not be ready for the way BMC does things, for that level of automation and AI. BMC's automation is like nothing I've seen. You can even deflect 30% of IT service desk tickets with an intelligent chatbot – that's a number from BMC. Imagine the reduction in human agents! It's a robot doing the work, but in a way that feels human... that's the impressive part. You can integrate with WhatsApp, Teams, etc. It's game-changing.

Provides a comprehensive view by integrating with other monitoring systems
There may be an issue since there are many tools like Splunk involved in network monitoring. From an IP perspective, Dynatrace is performing well. If they want to develop in network monitoring, they can, as it's part of their product line. It's not rocketry, so they can accomplish it. If I, as an SI, look at it from an enterprise perspective, considering the cost from the client, I prefer not to go with multiple systems, as they don't provide a complete 360-degree view. They need to improve on claims about being an enterprise system. The definition of enterprise is loosely used, however, from a holistic security perspective, including infrastructure, network, ports, software, applications, transactions, and databases, there are areas lacking, especially in network monitoring tools.

Quotes from Members

Pros

"BMC Helix Operations Management with AIOps' predictive analytics positively impacted proactive problem-solving capabilities. It has been the most interesting part of the solution! It provides detailed analytics that gives you a deep understanding of your infrastructure and recurring issues/problems. It really predicts the problems."
"BMC Helix Operations Management with AIOps deserves a ten out of ten."
"Dynatrace has allowed us to pinpoint quickly any pain points our clients experience with our applications and respond accordingly."
"The vendor team who did the setup was very good. They sent a very skillful resource for the setup."
"Dynatrace is stable."
"OneAgent, the new platform of Dynatrace, it is called artificial intelligence (AI), so basically that artificial intelligence correlates multiple infrastructure competence transactions services and application processes. It is one of the most important features, so when there is a fire break, you do not have to go multiple hops to go look where exactly the issue is."
"The most valuable feature is the 360-degree view for monitoring, infrastructure, and application worlds."
"Smartscape display for ease of visibility, pinpointing a exact problem, and providing necessary details for fixing and even improving on."
"Dynatrace offers exceptional features compared to other monitoring tools."
"It seems to be very stable. We have not had any outages attributed to the product."

Cons

"The biggest challenge is ensuring the customer has sufficient ITSM maturity to get the most out of the solution. BMC Helix is very sophisticated, and some clients lack that internal process maturity."
"Dashboarding and having different templates available for more business reporting, or even other metrics, would be useful."
"Better root cause detection and improve root cause categories. In some cases, the root cause points out only a clue of what has happened."
"We should be able to easily simplify both the charting and slicing-and-dicing of user metrics with cookies that contain customer/user information."
"In the new Dynatrace solution, support for legacy applications is still not there. "
"The one thing people really liked that we can do in AppMon is executive dashboards and, until recently, you couldn't even create the business transactions you need for the data at the back-end of those dashboards. But if I had to ask for one thing it would be: In the new platform, give me the ability to do dashboarding in the way it's done in AppMon, and I think that would bridge a lot of the missing pieces. If I could do the same type of executive dashboards on the walls, they would be happy."
"A role-based view and a Python monitoring tool would make a simple user interface more usable."
"The con of Dynatrace is that, at times, because it has so much information, it becomes difficult to see the root cause of your problem, and then you have to dig around to find the root cause."
"The new Dynatrace solution lacks test-automation integration inside the CI pipeline. I hope that will arrive soon."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"BMC solution is cheaper than ServiceNow, its main competitor. So, I'd rate the pricing a seven out of ten, with ten being expensive."
"The licensing for Dynatrace is high. If you want to go for monitoring solutions, then why Dynatrace? If you have a particular budget, you can go for many other monitoring tools - apart from Dynatrace - and they can help you more and give more data than Dynatrace can. It's not worth the money that you spend for Dynatrace."
"The solution is not cheap."
"There is a license issue where if we increase the memory we have to up the licenses. I was unaware of that going in. I thought it was scalable without all the paperwork behind the scenes. "
"Dynatrace is very good and it's provided a lot of information, it plays a positive role in making your application up to date in the market. If you want to monitor some applications only, it would be cheaper if you did cloud monitoring, but the price benefit depends on the use case."
"Dynatrace is usually paid on a yearly basis."
"Our annual costs were about the same for both AppDynamics and Dynatrace."
"We have not fully been able to get the full value out of the product. It is expensive compared to other things that we have had in the past. Paying that much and not being able to get the full return on the product is a downgrade. "
"There was also some complexity in the adoption rate of it because of how costly the licensing is."
