Easy to use, immutable, and provides good deduplication features
When we wanted to back up our Microsoft environment, we looked for a cloud backup. Barracuda provided a cloud backup. There were no other products that offered similar features at that time. I will recommend the product to others. It is easy to use. It is a complete package. It is easy to integrate the product with Microsoft. We have a complete package that includes antispam and email gateway solutions. We can choose any package we want. We use Barracuda Essentials. Overall, I rate the solution a nine out of ten.

Backup management excels with user-friendly interface and effective deduplication, offering robust data protection
Leveraging AI in Veritas NetBackup Appliance is one of the road maps now that they have done a collaboration with Cohesity, which is a feature I'm looking forward to. Using AI is one improvement I recommend for the Veritas NetBackup Appliance. They have implemented some aspects of AI for features such as malware detection and anomaly detection. I believe they can do more to give customers more insight into their data, allowing them to see it and understand what they can do, such as archiving old data. They can do more by utilizing the data effectively to provide insights to customers about their space usage, future projections, and options for managing old data.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"One of the strong points of Barracuda is that you can go from zero to having your first backup running within 10 minutes."
"We recommend the product to other users because it is a good product."
"Setting up Barracuda Backup is straightforward."
"The most valuable feature is the Live Boot solution, a feature on the Barracuda that is very helpful for critical service because whenever you have a crash or your service is not working, you can just live-boot the machine and have your service up and running."
"The product is easy to install and use while doing what it is expected to do."
"The stability of the solution is very good; we haven't had any trouble at all with it so far and it's very reliable."
"The product is easy to use."
"The performance is good and the interface is user-friendly."
"The utilization of Data Domain is crucial because of its integration with a key Veritas feature: retention lock. This feature ensures data integrity by preventing any alterations to stored data. When NetBackup interacts with Data Domain, enabling the retention lock feature ensures that neither administrators nor backup personnel can modify data stored within the system. This functionality is vital for compliance purposes and meets the requirements of auditors."
"The most valuable technical feature for us is the deduplication ratio."
"We mainly use Windows for all our operating systems. Our databases are SQL databases. For backups, we set up one master server and three process servers. Our company isn't big, so this setup works well for us. We install the Veritas NetBackup Appliance agent on all the systems that need to be backed up."
"NetBackup is based on really good architectural hardware, and Veritas has the best backup and replication technology in the world."
"Installing this solution is very simple and takes perhaps five or ten minutes."
"I like the solution, it works well, the integration to the VMware environment is good, and the documentation is helpful and easy to follow."
"The solution is very stable...The solution is very scalable."
"The consistency of using it over a long period of time has been excellent."

Cons

"The solution depends on your connectivity, so it is essential to have a proper connection to the cloud."
"The web interface needs to contain a more up-to-date view of the hardware."
"When we manage the box physically, we don't have as much control as we do when we manage from the cloud. The best management is from the cloud."
"The cloud backup is brilliant, but there should be an option to take that cloud backup and save it locally as well."
"One part of the product that I think needs the most improvement is the recovery feature. It is not as fast as it should be."
"It would be nice to have some reports generated on the usage of the system such as detailed backup statistics, but it is not essential."
"The solution needs fine-grained backup capabilities to service individual users."
"Barracuda Backup could use some more integration."
"The technical support services could be better."
"They could improve the interface a bit. It's not as good as it could be."
"The desirability of appliance solutions is dwindling in the marketplace."
"Technical support for this solution needs to be improved. We have some critical problems that have not yet been resolved, and everyone is nervous."
"They could improve the interface a bit."
"The costing part is on the higher side. The reporting could also be improved."
"Feature-wise, it is quite good, but it is very costly. Its price has gone up quite significantly over the years, and that makes people like us look at alternatives."
"When compared to other products from other vendors, it is somewhat difficult. Comparing it to competitors, it is slightly less intuitive than Commvault and NetWorker."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"The licensing is charged yearly. It's my understanding that the cost of the solution is somewhere around $7,000 every two years."
"Its pricing is very reasonable, but it can be reduced."
"The tool's pricing is reasonable."
"You have two options, which we have. We pay for it bi-monthly. Then, you can purchase the project hours and support annually."
"It is about 6,900 or 7,000 a year. It goes up a little every year. Its price includes live updates, support, antivirus, and cloud storage. If I increase the cloud space, then the price would increase. It has been consistent for us."
"Normally, there is the hardware on the site. So, essentially, there is a server and storage. They can price it a little lower because the customers are making a little investment upfront. Even though it is trouble-free for the end-users, and once it is set up and running, they don't have to really think about it, there is essentially an initial investment. It is not really pricey. We're actually competitive, but we are in a different market. In Asia, customers are a little more price-sensitive than in the west. It is not really a real issue."
"What I like best about Barracuda Backup is the licensing model."
"Because it is a single package that includes everything, they are worth the money that you need to pay for it. You are paying for the hardware, licensing, the software that runs on it, regular updates, the cloud features included with it along with the replication, and your space allocated in the cloud for replication. It is fairly priced for what you get."
"The licensing costs for this solution are very high."
"The price of Veritas NetBackup Appliance is competitive. There are different models of Veritas NetBackup Appliance, such as perpetual licenses and subscriptions. Having the choice is good."
"I rate the solution's pricing a nine out of ten."
"This solution is expensive."
"Appliances do not come cheaply."
"The product's price is high."
"The price of this solution is very high compared to other solutions."
"There is a license required for this solution."
