We performed a comparison between DD Boost and Veritas NetBackup Appliance based on real PeerSpot user reviews.
Find out in this report how the two Deduplication Software solutions compare in terms of features, pricing, service and support, easy of deployment, and ROI."DD Boost has improved our data backup and recovery process. Its data deduplication feature is amazing. The product comes with cloud features. It helps to save time."
"The most valuable features are the performance and the duplication."
"The solution is very easy to manage. That's its most valuable feature."
"There are no limitations when it comes to the scalability feature of the product. You can scale up or scale down however much you want."
"It's stable and reliable."
"I like the tool set, it's easy to work on and the support is brilliant."
"The most valuable feature is the support for plug-ins."
"The solution is very good because it is easy to use and it speeds up the backup and lowers the requirement for the storage rate. It is capable of encryption, compression, and deduplication and it is fast for sending all of the data over the network because it sends only the change blocks from the client to the DD server."
"It is easy to use and the performance is good."
"We can add multiple appliances to the product."
"If you use the NetBackup Appliance you do not need to have separate media servers and hardware. You can configure the same storage as a media server and master server as well as a storage port. This helps to reduce the hardware costs of the media server."
"The solution is useful for backups."
"The NetBackup appliance features customized software that is designed for storage."
"The tool is easy to use, stable, and performs well, but it depends on the environment where it is deployed. It is leaning more toward huge enterprises where it is positioned. It needs to be as easy as others but addresses more complex requirements."
"The intelligent policies feature is used in order to protect the VMware infrastructure. One of the things that makes a big difference for our company is the usage of these intelligence policies. The system automatically provides extra protection for any VMware server application or service. From a backup administrator's point of view, this is what we call peace of mind. It reduces the workload and therefore reduces resources needed from the company."
"The most valuable feature of this solution is that it can be used in many different kinds of systems."
"It should be expanded to include other databases and software. It should also be made easier to restore."
"There are some limitations where you cannot use it as a shared server or as a file server, it is limited for the only backup."
"The solution needs to be more user-friendly for the end-users."
"DD Boost's technical support could be better."
"There are limitations when using the VTL protocol in extreme cases."
"The multi-tier functionality can be improved, but it is quite good. They could improve replication and perhaps support additional sharing network protocols. I would also like to see better implementation of NFS Version 3, but it is already implemented and quite usable as it is."
"My customer was interested in ransomware protection. Currently, Dell offers the Cyber Vault solution, which is separate from Data Domain. Ideally, ransomware protection would be integrated directly within DD Boost, without requiring an additional out-of-the-box solution. This feature is currently available with HPE's Zerto and Huawei's Ocean Protect with third-party products like PradoNet. While Cyber Vault exists as a separate solution from Data Domain, having some standard protection for immutable backups into DD Boost would be a valuable addition and make it more competitive with other vendors."
"It would be good if the product could be useful not just for general backup. Its pricing is also expensive, and it can be a difficult application, particularly when you need to write a script for anything you would like to do."
"The response from the support team has not always been quick, so sometimes there is a risk."
"It could be better integrated with other platforms."
"Veritas NetBackup Appliance could improve the configuration, it could be more user-friendly."
"The NetBackup software is based on Red Hat Linux, but we should have multiple software options for that. We should have more OS options. Also, there are too many tools and intermediaries. Everything should be built into an all-in-one solution."
"The reporting feature can be improved."
"NetBackup Appliance's pricing is reasonable, but it could be lower."
"Technical support for this solution needs to be improved."
"The solution could improve by providing more integration and security."
