Real-time alerting enhances network monitoring, but interface and network mapping need improvement
The interface is good yet could be improved. There are many elements that could be changed in the interface itself. There should be some sort of chart or alerting within the dashboard. In the overview section, these features are currently absent. When you get an alert, you must go to notifications, then within the device to identify the issue. It would be beneficial if everything was visible immediately upon logging in to the overview, such as machine performance and other metrics. Regarding the network map and visibility, there are some issues. Many people have mentioned that the network map needs improvement, especially when handling numerous items. Currently, I have everything in place: printers, monitors, laptops, switches, and access points. However, I have three switches showing outside of the loop without explanation. This issue is persistent, not occasional. These switches appear disconnected in the corner, even though they are connected and online according to other platforms. The presentation aspect needs significant improvement. We have government-related clients, and taking a screenshot of the current network mapping to send to them appears unprofessional. Although Auvik Network Management (ANM) provides network mapping, I still need to create my own network diagram to make it presentable for clients.

Has supported real-time event detection and reporting accuracy while database integration has required extra effort
Sometimes it may be difficult to incorporate new additional databases in NetMon, and we faced some challenges at that time. However, currently, it is not giving many challenges. It is difficult to integrate NetMon with other databases. We can customize NetMon's monitoring views, but it is done by the team who handles it, as it is outsourced.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"It's a single, integrated platform and that is very important because the more tools that you can build into one product suite, the easier it is for your engineering staff to learn it."
"Auvik Network Management really helps with the overview of every switch or router in a location."
"Having one piece of software that has all that combined is really nice."
"At this point in time, it's an invaluable piece of what we do."
"The solution provides detailed device information, including serial numbers, configurations, IP, warranty status, and when the device was purchased. This is very helpful when it comes to replacing old devices."
"The dashboard and the network map give a real-time picture."
"I like the way that it auto-configures itself to do the mapping."
"I have found Auvik extremely stable. They do a lot of scheduled maintenance, but it's almost always on the weekends, so it doesn't impact us."
"The protocols with which you see the traffic for a particular website that a client has in their environment, for example, are valuable. We can monitor whether the traffic is up to the mark or whether they need to add more bandwidth. Also, we can see if we're able to get real-time environment data as well. The customization dashboard is really good. LogRhythm NetMon has its own in-built dashboards which are helpful in guiding customization."
"The analytics feature is the most valuable feature."
"Visibility is a valuable feature, the ability to see even if the traffic is not going into the firewall"
"We were sold on the product based on the fairly narrow use cases that the sales reps gave us, and what we're seeing during our usage is that we can get there, and we're very excited about the potential."
"The analytics feature is the most valuable feature."
"NetMon's best feature is traffic analysis."
"In general, this is a good product."
"Compared to many other products in the market, I think LogRhythm has the highest cost to performance ratio in terms of its value."

Cons

"It would be helpful to be able to send CLI commands to multiple devices in Auvik simultaneously."
"It would be cool if they came out with an app, but running the browser isn't bad."
"It would be helpful if it integrates more with Windows Server event logs and other types of logs."
"The automation side needs improvement... A really important one was about a SonicWall firewall that needs to be rebooted every single month. You can do that in the SonicWall GUI, but you can't do it in Auvik. Hundreds of people have endorsed the idea of having an automated command line interface command run on any device that supports it."
"Some improvements in the spacing on the network map would be good."
"Its integration with IT Glue is absolute garbage. I would never recommend it to anybody who utilizes IT Glue."
"I like the auto-mapping feature, but I would like to see more layouts and predefined views."
"I don't know that there are any remote tools for directly connecting to workstations through Auvik."
"LogRhythm NetMon's pricing model is an area of concern that should be made a little bit cheaper in comparison to the other players in the market currently."
"There is an issue with tunneling in relation to how the connectivity is established between the end devices and where NetMon is installed. On the console, I often observe that there's a difference of a few seconds or maybe a minute, and this lag time should not be there."
"The training for this product is not very good and needs to be improved."
"The main concern is that LogRhythm has not improved NetMon but instead introduced a separate product, which many customers, including us, would prefer to be integrated into a single platform for easier management."
"Previously, it was typically every Monday that I was coming in - it would die over the weekend - and I would spend a day cleaning up databases."
"Their technical support isn't so great."
"Some of the automated tasks we can perform on QRadar cannot be performed on LogRhythm because the solution has limitations."
"Sometimes it's hard to find the network devices' self-audit logs."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"It was worth every penny that we paid for it. It's not necessarily the cheapest. I don't know what its current price is. I haven't been involved in the pricing part of it for a couple of years. I know that a couple of years ago, it was a bit pricey, but it saved us many times over the cost that we were paying for it."
"For the size of our school, it is expensive, but I understand the reason behind the pricing."
"The pricing is kind of steep, but it's worth the price. There's no beating around the bush. It's an expensive solution, but it's really the best solution there is for us."
"Auvik is not cheap. They've done a great job, it's a developed product, but you pay for it. When you compare, it's definitely in the upper-tier of pricing."
"Auvik is probably one of the more expensive options on the market for what it does. But if, as a managed services provider, you are working with clients that have large networks with large numbers of network devices, you can find efficiency to be gained that will make that value up."
"For us, it has been good. I do not get too much into the pricing side. We are an MSP, so we have a number of clients, and we are utilizing Auvik as a way for us to be able to better manage and support our clients. The more clients we bring into Auvik, the better the pricing, so we have been happy with how it is."
"They charge for switches and some networking hardware, but everything else is free."
"Auvik is billed by network device. They bill our firewalls and networks. However, there are devices that are not subject to billing in our environment, such as PCs, phones, and printers."
"Pricing is okay. There were some competitors that were extremely expensive and there were some which were really inexpensive but LogRhythm stayed in the middle of them."
"LogRhythm's licensing part is something that depends on the license you want since they offer it on a perpetual and subscription basis."
"NetMon's licensing costs about $85k per year, with some extra costs for support."
"The price of this solution is too high, so it should be made more practical and more valuable for the customer."
"The product is expensive for smaller companies."
"I don't have visibility into the pricing of LogRhythm NetMon as it's handled through our commercial partnerships."
