Has supported real-time event detection and reporting accuracy while database integration has required extra effort
Sometimes it may be difficult to incorporate new additional databases in NetMon, and we faced some challenges at that time. However, currently, it is not giving many challenges. It is difficult to integrate NetMon with other databases. We can customize NetMon's monitoring views, but it is done by the team who handles it, as it is outsourced.

Monitoring has improved bandwidth insights and application diagnosis but setup and costs still need work
They need room for improvement about the spare parts. There are shortages in Egypt in their stock. We tried to make RMA for specific parts, and it took a long time. Comparing this to a vendor like Cisco, who provides any component next business day, NETSCOUT nGeniusONE took a long time. This needs more improvement. I believe it is expensive. They need to reduce its budget a little bit. Comparing to other solutions, it is very expensive.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"Visibility is a valuable feature, the ability to see even if the traffic is not going into the firewall"
"We are using NetMon's real-time traffic analysis regularly with a team of four members who effectively monitor all alerts and events, which has helped them identify whether there could be a severe incident."
"Compared to many other products in the market, I think LogRhythm has the highest cost to performance ratio in terms of its value."
"The most valuable feature is the log, which can be analyzed by our SIEM solution."
"It has a very strong artificial intelligence engine."
"The analytics feature is the most valuable feature."
"It is a stable solution...It is a scalable solution."
"NetMon's best feature is traffic analysis."
"Before we were pretty weak in network KPIs; the solution transforms packet wire data into real-time data that is actionable, helps us with faster detection of issues, allows us to create alerts, provides the right people in our company with the right information in a single pane of glass view, and gives us increased visibility while conducting an IT deployment."
"We have cut back on our troubleshooting, by isolating certain trouble areas."
"When we can get the data into the tool, we absolutely see a decrease in mean time to know and mean time to repair, and similarly for overall troubleshooting time."
"The product is very good. We have very few problems."
"Aside from having the logs that are just on the firewall, we're able to get the traffic as it's going in between, throughout our network. It isolates end sources that are having issues, where we don't have any other tools that would be able to go down to an end-user's computer to find out what's going on."
"We have seen a lot of return on investment: We have been able to recover radios in the field, we know exactly what is going on, we cut down fines from the service commission, and we have seen a measurable decrease in mean time to know, cutting troubleshooting down by days as we can now see the issues."
"The most valuable feature is that it is in line with the traffic. It already captures the raw traffic itself and then filters it, giving us the correct image. Some other companies may just extract what they think is valuable from the traffic itself. nGeniusONE is in line."
"When we have mobile operators who are signal partners, where one is the roaming host and another is the roamer, we are able to see their traffic. Their packets are able to detect if any faults to develop, and at what point they fail."

Cons

"Previously, it was typically every Monday that I was coming in - it would die over the weekend - and I would spend a day cleaning up databases."
"Their technical support isn't so great."
"Our customers would always like to see additional features."
"I would like to see better integration with multiple products. Integration is not something that is readily available for most of the products."
"One thing that surprised me was the current version of LogRhythm does not natively support Windows 2016."
"Sometimes it may be difficult to incorporate new additional databases in NetMon, and we faced some challenges at that time."
"There is an issue with tunneling in relation to how the connectivity is established between the end devices and where NetMon is installed. On the console, I often observe that there's a difference of a few seconds or maybe a minute, and this lag time should not be there."
"Could use a topology diagram which would help get an exact visual."
"Trying to set up dashboards is hard to figure out at times, if you don't do it every day."
"There are so many features that it makes it hard to know it all. You end up paying for things that you don't use and probably don't even need. It might be better if Netscout came up with a modular way to pay for what you're going to use and not pay for all of this "white elephant" without being able to take advantage of all of it."
"I would recommend enhancing the APM capabilities."
"The solution is not easy to install."
"In previous versions, we used to have an icon on the dashboard when the situation analysis would present an alert. It would be nice if that would be made available on the dashboard again. Something that could be customizable to only illuminate on certain applications."
"NG1 has been stable for a while in our environment - at least we have what we needed. But with nBA, there's a lot of room for improvement."
"I would like to see improvement in the user experience. It's hard to manage it."
"I'd like to see the nGeniusONE, the nGeniusPULSE, and the OptiView, their three separate products, work a little better together, a little more streamlined."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"NetMon's licensing costs about $85k per year, with some extra costs for support."
"The price of this solution is too high, so it should be made more practical and more valuable for the customer."
"LogRhythm's licensing part is something that depends on the license you want since they offer it on a perpetual and subscription basis."
"The product is expensive for smaller companies."
"Pricing is okay. There were some competitors that were extremely expensive and there were some which were really inexpensive but LogRhythm stayed in the middle of them."
"I don't have visibility into the pricing of LogRhythm NetMon as it's handled through our commercial partnerships."
"Make sure you get the low down on your licensing and understand the licensing requirements before making a purchase, especially when it comes to an upgrade. Make sure that it suits your needs before you commit to it. For example, we purchased ATA at version 6.2.1. At that time, the licensing covered everything we need. NETSCOUT comes out with 6.2.2, stating that in order to upgrade, you had to purchase CyberStream licensing. Now that requires some additional funding from both a capital investment and a maintenance cost. That's something that should have been said, "Well, if you want these additional features, you will need to purchase these CyberStreams." Otherwise, we should be allowed to continue on the basic operations as it is now through the newer releases without being stuck."
"The product is too expensive compared to other products."
"The license becomes cost prohibitive very quickly."
"This solution has saved us more than $50,000 a month and freed up 30 percent of our bandwidth."
"I would like it to be more scalable with less spend."
"Cost is probably the biggest drawback. Compared to some of the newer vendors that have popped up in the space, it's definitely more on the expensive side... [But] it's been able to keep its value, even in the face of the cheaper competition."
"The biggest problem we have with this product is the expense."
"The price is only for acquisition; it's not a licence."
