Real-time alerting enhances network monitoring, but interface and network mapping need improvement
The interface is good yet could be improved. There are many elements that could be changed in the interface itself. There should be some sort of chart or alerting within the dashboard. In the overview section, these features are currently absent. When you get an alert, you must go to notifications, then within the device to identify the issue. It would be beneficial if everything was visible immediately upon logging in to the overview, such as machine performance and other metrics. Regarding the network map and visibility, there are some issues. Many people have mentioned that the network map needs improvement, especially when handling numerous items. Currently, I have everything in place: printers, monitors, laptops, switches, and access points. However, I have three switches showing outside of the loop without explanation. This issue is persistent, not occasional. These switches appear disconnected in the corner, even though they are connected and online according to other platforms. The presentation aspect needs significant improvement. We have government-related clients, and taking a screenshot of the current network mapping to send to them appears unprofessional. Although Auvik Network Management (ANM) provides network mapping, I still need to create my own network diagram to make it presentable for clients.

Cost effective but when we originally purchased LANGuardian, some features needed further development.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"Overall, I really love the tool as it has been super helpful for us in our environment."
"It's very intuitive. It does a good job of showing you individual nodes on the network and their relative positions to one another, with pertinent details on each node, all in one location."
"Auvik's features for monitoring device availability and bandwidth utilization have greatly helped us. From a cybersecurity perspective, bandwidth utilization tells us if we have a potential data exfiltration incident. It also helps us decide whether to increase the bandwidth for one of the links or if the current bandwidth is sufficient."
"Auvik has decreased our mean time to resolution by 50%."
"What I appreciate most about Auvik Network Management (ANM) is the alerting system."
"Topography mapping is incredibly useful, especially when it's functioning properly."
"Automatic alerting is probably the most valuable."
"There are times when we inherit issues from whatever company we acquire, and deploying Auvik Network Management on a site and having it map everything that it can find and pull down all of the configuration is absolutely amazing for network discovery."
"Our CIO asked us to track down the source of undesired uploads, which trigger e-mails received by outside bodies regarding what they refer to as "copyright violations", and Languardian was the most efficient and effective tool for the job."
"If you are looking for a solid solution that can be easily deployed then I'd recommend considering Netfort solutions."

Cons

"Auvik's network map is easy to use for someone who is experienced, but if someone is not too experienced with it, they might be overwhelmed, especially if they run a really big client network with hundreds of devices."
"The pricing always has room for improvement."
"The cost was high."
"Auvik could have better compatibility with more devices. The devices that we're using are essential within our network infrastructure. It would be great to access the full range of features that some of the other ones do, such as the device configuration backups and the configuration change alert."
"I don't know that there are any remote tools for directly connecting to workstations through Auvik."
"Navigating around the map on more complex networks is pretty painful if you're showing endpoints. I know there are filters to knock it down, but sometimes that's not enough. It handles like 'early-90s Java.'"
"They can maybe provide some more best practices or guidance around how large a network should be. They can provide some cutoff points, such as, if you have 30 network devices, you might want to chunk that into a smaller subset or site. They can help you better plan and design how to create your Auvik sites, especially if you have a large environment."
"We schedule backups in the middle of the night, and a high volume of data passes through our networks during those backups because it backs up everything for a couple of hours. That generates alerts in Auvik's monitoring systems saying that these network ports are at 99 percent utilization because they're being maxed out. I'd like to have a way to mute alerts during these hours. There's no way to whitelist this activity within a set period. I want to be able to tell Auvik not to send me alerts about high utilization on these ports between 1 a.m. and 4 a.m."
"Sure, at the time we bought the product, the GUI and graphs/reports/pie charts etc ... were not fully developed."
"It takes a long time to load results. I think it would be great if they fix the slowness issue in the next release."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"The pricing is very good."
"Auvik tends to be on the pricier side."
"Their licensing model is basically per managed device. You pay X amount per managed device, and managed devices are limited to switches, routers, firewalls, and wireless LAN controllers. So, the only things that we pay for are our switches, routers, firewalls, and wireless LAN controllers, but there are orders of magnitude more devices that Auvik manages that we don't pay for. It also manages servers, workstations, and phones. Auvik will gather KPIs from anything that is connected to the network if it can be managed via a standard like SNMP or WMI. There are no costs in addition to the standard licensing fees."
"Auvik is a good product and worth the premium price tag for a lot of people."
"While their pricing aligns with competitors, the benefit of having these additional devices monitored for free makes Auvik a compelling option."
"The pricing gets pretty expensive because it is per device that is managed. It is not per site, so it can get pricey."
"I would love to be able to get into the tier with the sys logging and the NetFlow/sFlow. That tier is a little bit expensive for us. If that could come down a little bit in price, we would be using that everywhere."
"I understand Auvik's value proposition, but the retail price might seem high at first glance."
