Has supported hybrid IT environments effectively and offers strong data protection
With Arcserve UDP, the most valuable feature is to improve persistent data, which I consider important. I use other products too, not only Arcserve UDP, as we use TrueNAS as well. Arcserve UDP improves the precision of data. I have utilized Arcserve UDP's data deduplication feature, and the data deduplication feature helps my storage efficiency significantly. I have used Arcserve UDP's continuous data protection. It is beneficial for operational continuity because we use it constantly and have no objections to Arcserve UDP technology; I think it is very good. Arcserve UDP's integration with multiple operating systems is very good and very efficient. This brings value for me since many of my clients have different operating systems like Windows and Linux; there is no problem. Regarding the deduplication and compression with Arcserve UDP, I think Arcserve UDP is still a solid solution that we primarily use.

We use it to backup some high output critical physical servers, knowing that in case of disaster we could still recover to our VM environment. The user interface needs improvement.
The user interface needs improvement, the selection boxes to select a backup job are very small not adequate for managing 400+ backup jobs, we only see 8 job names in the small scroll window. The scheduler features are lacking, we must edit backup specs to reach the option to change the schedule. The new reporting feature has greatly improved the product, prior to this it was very difficult to have a full view of our backup schedules when scheduling a new job. Since the move from Syncsort to Catalogic, the quality control of upgrades has diminished and backups that used to work could not be restored without contacting Catalogic for a fix. We still see a lot of value in the product, but hope that the next few updates will not cause more issues... We wanted a mission critical enterprise solution, and sincerely hope that the future upgrades will bring the product back on track.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"The ease of use is the best feature of the product."
"The data protection functionality is the most valuable feature of this solution."
"It is easy to configure."
"It works out of the box, and it saves my life a lot."
"Arcserve has a feature called virtual standby (VSB), which has been very helpful because I already have a hot standby copy of my critical infrastructure. If something breaks, I can spin up that virtual standby copy in less than five minutes and ensure that my data is available to everyone and that business continuity is maintained."
"Global deduplication is the best feature of this solution."
"The ROI is very good because of the speed of the backup, so our IT staff don't waste time doing unnecessary work and can set up and focus on other tasks."
"If you just want VMware or backup, it's okay, but in an extensive manner, if you want to use backup technology and tools, then it does not have the flexibility."
"By implementing an OVF (docker based) and without any agents on your servers, you’ll get a system which provides you with: Orchestration, Automation DR and Data analytics."
"Catalogic has great features including the ability to P2V from snapvaults, and recently the addition of agent-less backups for Linux."

Cons

"We could not go into granular details of retrieving backup information."
"Licensing is an area that needs improvement. I have had six support calls in the last two years all related to licensing because the license would stop all of a sudden."
"I would say they have good people, but the staff in Brazil is very reduced, so we need to talk with foreigners; it could be difficult for our clients since it was not in Portuguese."
"The tool doesn't provide cloud integration in India."
"Taking a snapshot level backup with this solution is very slow compared to other products."
"Bad. They delay completing the analysis of a problem and absence of contouring solution for unresolved problems."
"The high use of RAM memory is a headache for those who want to implement the system with all the resources in use."
"It should be easier to switch between backup locations. We have multiple data storage locations and sometimes one of those storages need to be replaced. It would be nice if they made it easier to reconfigure the backup configuration."
"And hearing about all these awesome posibilities, it kind of struck me that this was only possible with NetApp storage."
"Since the move from Syncsort to Catalogic, the quality control of upgrades has diminished and backups that used to work could not be restored without contacting Catalogic for a fix."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"The price is based on the number of sockets. We use a four-socket price that includes two servers and the cost is $4,375."
"The solution is not very expensive, but it is not cheap."
"I rate the product price a five on a scale of one to ten, where one is low price and ten is high price."
"Normally our customers purchase the premium plus license, rather than the standard one, which provides more options."
"The solution is expensive."
"There is an annual license required for this solution and it is priced well."
"The pricing of the product can be considered to be reasonable enough for the Asian region."
"The pricing is moderate."
