Reliable performance enhances operations with good technical support
We run the entire IRS system, the income system, and the tax system. We also manage the entire Absa banking system in Africa. There's a lot of database applications, similar to those used in banks and the IRS The most valuable features for us are reliability and performance. Our system is used…

Has supported web application data needs but requires design adjustments to manage complex queries efficiently
Complex queries in MariaDB where the query needs to parse thousands of lines or data values face some performance issues. For small and medium-size volume, it is pretty good. If it goes beyond certain data and complex queries, we see performance issues. We tried the advanced replication feature between different regions, replicating data specifically residing on MariaDB to two different regions of MariaDB data, and there were some technical snags in terms of slowness and longer processing time. Point-in-time recovery in MariaDB is good for small databases. When data volume increases beyond 5 GB or 10 GB per day or runs into double-digit GBs, we found some performance issues. For data below 10 GB, it works fine. Performance is the primary focus area for MariaDB, particularly during transactions or complex query jobs where slow performance is observed. MariaDB is scalable and easy to scale.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"The most valuable features for us are reliability and performance."
"The deployment of our solution across a number of servers using Ingres .NET has meant that we can protect the database server behind a highly secure firewall and deploy the front end solutions on a normal web server."
"Ingres is the only database solution that has maintained a level of consistency and integrity about the way users interact with it."
"The performance is very good."
"The most valuable feature of the solution is the query speed it offers."
"Great monitoring and performance stability."
"I recommend this solution; it's great for web applications and it just works."
"Easy to use and available in most environments."
"MariaDB is scalable."
"The technical support of MariaDB is very helpful, and they came and tuned our queries with one-to-one assistance."
"MariaDB can solve things better than MySQL, and MariaDB has better performance than MySQL."

Cons

"The seamless integration is a bit of an issue."
"The ability to reset the log file without stopping the DBMS would be helpful for us."
"The product needs more features and more functionality. It's imperative that it supports more platforms, and supports more operating systems."
"I’m not sure if it can scale, so I’m not sure how it would fare for significant companies."
"Lacks time series data and additional driving support would be helpful."
"The license should be cheaper and closer to that offered by MySQL, Oracle and other products."
"With respect to clustering and the master-slave configuration, sometimes the slave goes out of synch."
"The solution can improve by having support for more integration. However, at this time it is working well for us."
"The PL/SQL performance is slow. If you have big batch jobs running in the middle of the night for a bank doing its end-of-day audits, then MariaDB will take three times longer than using Oracle."
"The performance could be a bit better."
