What is our primary use case?
Check Point Quantum Force (NGFW) is our main solution for network perimeter security on a day-to-day basis. We use it to protect our company network from external threats and cyber attacks. We set up security policies to control what traffic comes in and out. We monitor network activity in real-time, and we block any suspicious or malicious traffic before it reaches our system. We also use it to manage VPN connections for our remote employees, and we use the threat prevention feature to stop ransomware viruses and other attacks. It is our first line of defense for keeping our network safe.
We use it for perimeter protection, threat prevention, VPN management, and real-time monitoring. It has become essential to our daily security operations, and we could not imagine running our network without it now.
What is most valuable?
The advanced threat prevention engine which catches malware and attacks really efficiently is my favorite feature. The Smart Console interface is excellent as it lets you manage everything from one dashboard, saving time. The VPN capabilities are solid and easy to configure. The real-time traffic monitoring and reporting give you complete visibility into what is happening on our network. Plus, the application control feature lets us see exactly what application people are using and block the ones we do not want. Overall, it is a comprehensive package that handles security really well.
Instead of jumping between different tools and screens, everything is centralized in one place with the Smart Console interface. We can create security rules, check logs, see what threats have been blocked, and manage user access all from one console. It saves us an hour a week because we are not wasting time navigating between systems. As for real-time monitoring making a difference, we had an incident where we spotted an unusual traffic pattern coming from one of our internal networks one afternoon. The Smart Console dashboard showed us the suspicious activity in real-time with detailed logs. We were able to immediately investigate and identify that a computer had been compromised, and isolated it from the rest of the network. Without that real-time visibility, we probably would not have caught it until much later. It helped prevent a bigger problem.
What needs improvement?
Check Point Quantum Force (NGFW) can be improved in several areas. First, the interface could be a little more intuitive for new users. The Smart Console is powerful, but it has a steep learning curve when you start using it. Some simple functions for common tasks would help. Second, the initial setup and configuration take quite a bit of time and expertise. It would be helpful if there were more guides, wizards, or templates to speed that up. Third, the price model could be more transparent and flexible. The license cost can add up quickly, specifically when you want to add more advanced features. Finally, I would appreciate seeing better integration with some third-party security tools we use. Right now, we have to do a lot of manual work to make everything talk to each other. Overall, these are minor things. The core product is really solid and does what it is supposed to do very well.
The documentation could be more comprehensive in some areas. When we run into issues, the documentation does not have clear answers, so we end up contacting support. Speaking of support, the response time could be faster sometimes. We have had cases where we need help with a certain security issue, and it takes longer than we would prefer to get a response. As for features, it would be nice to have more general reporting options so we can customize reports for different teams and stakeholders without having to do manual work afterward. One more thing, better mobile access to the dashboard would be helpful. Sometimes we need to check on security alerts when we are away from the office, and the mobile experience is not as smooth as it could be. Again, these are improvements that would make it even better, not issues with the core product itself.
For how long have I used the solution?
I have been using Check Point Quantum Force (NGFW) for about six months.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
Check Point Quantum Force (NGFW) is very stable in our experience. We have excellent uptime, and the system runs reliably day after day. We have not experienced major crashes or unexpected downtime that affected our network security. The performance is consistent, and it handles our network traffic smoothly without any bottlenecks. The only time we had to take it offline is for planned maintenance and updates, which is normal. Overall, stability has been one of the stronger points of the product for us.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
Scalability has been good for us so far. As our network has grown and we added more users and devices, Check Point Quantum Force (NGFW) has scaled pretty well without any major issues. We have not hit any performance limits yet, even with the increased traffic. I should mention that the scaling does come with additional license costs when you want to add more capacity or features. While the performance itself scales well technically, you need to be prepared for the financial side of the growth. If we continue to expand significantly, we might need to upgrade our hardware appliances eventually.
How are customer service and support?
The customer support for Check Point Quantum Force (NGFW) has been very good. Our experience has been responsive and good overall, but there is definitely room for improvement. When we contact support, the team is knowledgeable and helpful. They understand the product well and usually solve our issues. However, the response time can be quite slow sometimes, specifically for non-critical issues. If we have an urgent security problem, it would be nice to get a faster response. We have also found that the initial troubleshooting can take a while because they ask a lot of questions before getting to the solution. That said, they do eventually get us sorted out. Documentation as a self-service resource could be better, which would help us solve some problems without needing to contact support at all. Overall, the support is competent but could be more responsive and efficient.
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
We did use a different solution before Check Point Quantum Force (NGFW). I would not name it specifically, but it was getting quite outdated and was not keeping up with modern threats very effectively. The interface was clunky and difficult to use, and we were spending too much time managing it manually. The threat detection was not as advanced either, so we were missing things that Check Point Quantum Force (NGFW) catches now. We evaluated different options, and Check Point Quantum Force (NGFW) stood out because of its advanced threat prevention engine, much better interface, and its overall reputation in the industry. The switch was definitely worth it. We got better security, easier management, and a more modern platform that can scale as our company grows.
What was our ROI?
We have not calculated a formal return on investment for Check Point Quantum Force (NGFW) with specific numbers, but I can tell you we are definitely seeing value. As I mentioned earlier, our team is spending significantly less time on manual security work. We have gone from several hours a week to maybe an hour or less. If you put a dollar value on that, that is probably saving us tens of thousands of pounds annually in labor costs. We also have not had any major security incidents since it was properly set up, which has been far less expensive than dealing with data that could cost us hundreds of thousands or even millions in recovery and downtime. We do not need to hire additional security staff because of threat detection and response. If we had calculated this more formally from day one, I am sure we would have had clearer metrics to show, but based on what we have experienced, the return on investment is definitely positive and worth the expense.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
Our experience with pricing for Check Point Quantum Force (NGFW) has been mixed. The initial setup costs were fairly significant because we needed to buy the hardware appliances and then pay for the license. The license model itself can get complicated because there are different tiers and add-ons depending on what features you want. If you want advanced threat prevention, VPN, application control, and all the other features, the costs add up quite quickly. We also had some surprise costs when we needed to upgrade or add more capacity. The license renewal process can be a bit opaque. It is not always clear what you are paying for exactly. That said, when you consider the value it provides and the threats it is preventing, the investment makes sense. I would say that the pricing could be more straightforward and transparent. If you are a really small company, the cost might be prohibitive. But for a mid-to-large organization, it is reasonable if you budget for it properly.
Which other solutions did I evaluate?
We did evaluate other options before choosing Check Point Quantum Force (NGFW). We looked at several different vendors in the next-generation firewall space, considering Palo Alto Networks, Fortinet FortiGate, and Cisco ASA, among others. Each had its strengths, but Check Point Quantum Force (NGFW) stood out for us. Palo Alto is excellent but quite expensive for our budget at that time. Fortinet was good value for money, but we felt Check Point Quantum Force (NGFW)'s threat prevention capability was superior. Cisco is solid but more enterprise-focused and complex for our needs. We weighed everything by the features, pricing, ease of use, and support. Check Point Quantum Force (NGFW) seemed to be the best fit for our organization. We felt confident it would give us the protection we need without being overly complicated to manage.
What other advice do I have?
My advice for others looking into using Check Point Quantum Force (NGFW) would be, first, make sure you have someone on your team with decent networking and security knowledge because the setup and configuration do require expertise. Do not underestimate the time and effort needed for a proper deployment. Second, budget for training. Get your team trained properly on the Smart Console and the features you will be using. It is worth the investment upfront. Third, take advantage of Check Point Quantum Force (NGFW)'s resources and the community forum when you are learning. There is good information available if you know where to look. Fourth, think about your long-term needs before you buy because the license costs can add up as you add features. Finally, if you are serious about network security and protecting your organization from threats, Check Point Quantum Force (NGFW) is definitely worth it for us.
Check Point Quantum Force (NGFW) is a solid, mature product that delivers real security value. The threat prevention capabilities are excellent, and the Smart Console makes management much easier than our previous solution. It helps us protect our network effectively and has saved us time operationally. The main areas of improvement are the user interface learning curve, support response time, and pricing transparency. If you are looking for a reliable next-gen firewall with strong threat detection and prevention, it is definitely worth evaluating. I am glad we made the switch to it, and I would recommend it to other organizations with similar security needs. I gave this product a rating of eight out of ten.
