What is our primary use case?
We are essentially a university, and we have deployed Dell EqualLogic PS series in our data centers to run our production sites, student portals, websites, our on-premises portal, and campus management system. We are running all these solutions on that cluster.
We have deployed Dell EqualLogic PS series in a straightforward manner by creating the volume, mounting it into VMware clusters, and using it as central storage.
What is most valuable?
Dell EqualLogic PS series is easily scalable, and we can add extra boxes and storage.
It was easy to deploy during COVID.
Deploying Dell EqualLogic PS series is straightforward, with no complexity involved.
Dell EqualLogic PS series is a good product. We did not experience any failures in the last six to seven years, and it is still running as our storage for offline data.
There are snapshot capabilities in data protection available, but we did not use that feature because it consumes much space. We have only 150 terabytes of space and simply use it to create volumes without utilizing it for snapshots.
We use thin provisioning in Dell EqualLogic PS series, but I did not explore that feature further.
What needs improvement?
I do not have anything in mind regarding new capabilities for Dell products at this time.
For how long have I used the solution?
I have been using Dell EqualLogic PS series for around six to seven years since we installed it.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
We did not observe any failures. We did not experience any single drive failure in our seven years of operation. The product has been reliable.

How would you rate customer service and support?
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
Tech Access was our vendor before switching to Dell.
How was the initial setup?
It was easy to deploy during COVID.

What about the implementation team?
The team should be professional. In Pakistan, the deployment team needs training. When they deployed our cluster, they did not provide any documentation or low-level or high-level diagrams. They simply came, mounted the servers, and started installation without documentation, which is a negative point on the vendor side.
Vendors need training for deployment and should prepare documentation and diagrams.
Even after the deployment and throughout the last seven years we have used that product, we do not have any documentation of this deployment, which is a negative aspect.
What was our ROI?
I see some savings. The solution is able to save us some time and money.
It is a question about return on investment, and the answer is that there is definitely savings from the product. Before deploying it, we used public clouds for our services, facing latency and other issues with other vendors. After deploying this cluster, we were very satisfied and relieved.
Which other solutions did I evaluate?
Dell products are much better. However, in Pakistan, we face different challenges. We recently deployed the HP solution because they quoted a lower price that won the standard. In Pakistan, there is a significant focus on pricing. We advocated for Dell and prepared the RFP for Dell solutions, but ultimately HP was selected due to lower pricing. I remain satisfied with Dell, as their products are more reliable than HP.
