I have found the backup call feature very good.

Reviews from Real Users
Veeam Backup & Replication is a solution that stands out when compared to many of its competitors. Some of its major advantages are its ease of set up, the fact that it is agentless, and that it has an intuitive dashboard.
A Network Operations Manager at an educational organization says, "Integration with VMware is excellent with very granular recovery."
An Inside Solutions Architect at a tech services company mentions, “I like that it's agent-less, easy to set up, and hardware-agnostic.”
An Account Manager at a tech services company states, “The dashboard is very, very easy to understand. We do demonstrations all the time with customers just to show them. If they've lost particular files because of a server going down, we can retrieve those files for them and quickly bring those files back up.”
Kerem C., Director of Professional Services/Senior Solution Architect/Trainer at a tech services company, explains, “It's good for backup performance management and backup window management.”
Veeam Backup & Replication was previously known as Veeam Backup and Replication, Veeam Availability Suite.

For how long have I used the solution?
I have been using the solution for approximately four years.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
We have experienced some bugs that we reported to the Veeam team and most of the issues have been resolved. For example, we had an issue recovering a file that was 256 characters long which we were testing out. We resolved it by restoring the whole volume.

A flexible and user-friendly backup solution
Pros and Cons
- "This solution is very flexible and user-friendly — it's very good. It's very good with our virtual and physical infrastructure."
- "There's a lot of room for improvement surrounding the backup process."
What is our primary use case?
We use this solution to backup and replicate our visualized and physical infrastructure. We use it to take backups on a daily/monthly basis; to take snapshots for disaster recovery; for application-aware processing.
Veeam Backup and Replication is mainly used by our IT team but we have a Veeam Backup Agent deployed on all of our workstations to make backups for end-users. In total, there are roughly 60-65 people using this solution in our company.
For maintenance, we only require two engineers and a manager.
What is most valuable?
This solution is very flexible and user-friendly — it's very good. It's very good with our virtual and physical infrastructure.
What needs improvement?
They need to improve the reporting. There is something called Veeam ONE Reporting — it's a separate module altogether. It's not included in the Veeam Backup and Replication bundle; it has to be purchased separately.
There's a lot of room for improvement surrounding the backup process. Searching through folders is complicated; customization involving backups is lacking. For instance, if I want to backup a particular server and store it in another repository, I have to first define a repository then I have to create a policy. Next, I have to execute the policy. It's not as if I just snap my fingers and it works — no. You need to build it and put that intelligence inside of it in order for it to act intelligently.
In addition, it should be more flexible when it comes to customizing policies.
For how long have I used the solution?
I have been using Veeam Backup & Replication for roughly two years.
How are customer service and technical support?
The technical support is very slow — their response time is very slow.
If I raise a ticket, they should quickly respond. Their first response is very slow; they work on their own sweet time. For instance, four days ago I reached out to technical support with an issue; only last night did they respond — they sent me an email asking me for our logs. The response time is very slow. It took almost four days for them to even respond. After I've uploaded the logs, they'll review them and come back with their findings. In other words, it takes roughly eight to 10 days just to understand the case — that's really bad.
On a scale from one to ten, I would give their support a rating of zero.
How was the initial setup?
The initial setup was very straightforward; however, the configuration was not straightforward. After it's set up, you then need to build it. Think of it like making a pizza: first, you need to make the dough; then you need the proper ingredients; then you need to preheat the oven to the proper temperature — it's a precise process.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
We pay on an annual basis. We pay roughly $12,000 for our software subscription.
What other advice do I have?
I would recommend Veeam Backup & Replication to others. Overall, on a scale from one to ten, I would give this solution a rating of eight. The only issue I have is with their technical support; otherwise, it's a great product.
We chose Veeam because, according to Gartner and multiple reports, it's the number one product for virtualized infrastructure. We got the demo and began a POC on a couple of servers. It was good for performing backups, etc., but it's not about the product. The product is good, it's the service after the sale that you have to look out for. After the sale is complete, the service and support are what matters. This can make or break a product.
Which deployment model are you using for this solution?
On-premises

Strong backup integrity, high backup and replication performance, and reliable
Pros and Cons
- "I have found one of the most valuable features to be the integrity of the backups."
- "think backing up from physical servers and ransomware security needs some improvements."
What is our primary use case?
The solution can be used for backing up data such as virtual machines, data servers, and applications.
How has it helped my organization?
We was concern about ransomware attack and with Veeam now we are protected. Thnaks Veeam
What is most valuable?
I have found one of the most valuable features to be the integrity of the backups. It does a great job at taking backups of physical servers and doing replications. The integration with their storage is done well.
What needs improvement?
I think backing up from physical servers and ransomware security needs some improvements. However, they have improved in the newer release by encrypting the backup server.
In upcoming releases, I do not want the UI to change, this is important for individuals using the solution. If there are many changes then they have to keep learning the UI over and over again making it difficult.
For how long have I used the solution?
I have been using the solution for approximately five years.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
The solution is stable.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
In my experience, I have found the solution to be stable. You are able to scale out to repositories well. You can add all servers together as a bundle and use them as a scale-out repository.
How are customer service and technical support?
The technical support is great. They have comprehensive FAQ information that can be searched for whatever your needs are.
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
I have used Veritas in the past and it does a better job at backing up servers.
Please, take a look at my Veeam Backup and Replication course
How was the initial setup?
The installation is simple, it takes less than 15 minutes.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
This solution requires a license and the organizations I was involved in were using an enterprise license.
What other advice do I have?
I would recommend using this solution to others.
I rate Veeam Backup Replication a ten out of ten.
Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

Great Sandbox feature; stable and readily scalable
Pros and Cons
- "Sandbox feature is like a power tool for troubleshooting."
- "This is an expensive solution."
What is our primary use case?
We currently use Veeam Backup & Replication in our own environment. Veeam is very useful with the share analysis and with what I get from Reporter. It's very smooth to use. Even the restoration is amazing. The replication feature capabilities are very good. It's useful for Windows products; Exchange, Express, and the like. I'm not sure how they could compete with another product, but it's better. Currently, we are just using this solution on our own site, but not yet integrating for customers. We are integrators of Veeam.
What is most valuable?
I really like the Sandbox feature, it's like a power tool for troubleshooting.
What needs improvement?
I'd like to see the pricing improved, it's currently an expensive solution.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
Veeam is very stable.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
This is a very scalable solution.
How are customer service and technical support?
Technical support is very effective. They respond quickly, faster than Dell.
How was the initial setup?
The initial setup is very easy, it took us around 30 minutes and required one person for deployment.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
The licensing of this product is expensive.
What other advice do I have?
I would definitely recommend this product.
I rate this solution a nine out of 10.

Requires better integration with database components and cloud services; VM backups are good
Pros and Cons
- "The solution does a good job with VM backups."
- "The solution is rather weak when it comes to database integration."
What is our primary use case?
Our primary use case of this solution is for application servers, web servers on Linux, Windows, AIX, databases, Db2, Sybase, Oracle and the like.
What is most valuable?
I think this solution does VM back ups very well.
What needs improvement?
I find this product to be rather weak when it comes to database integration and that really is problematic. It needs to have better integration with the database components as well as the cloud-based services.
For how long have I used the solution?
I've been using this solution for about a year.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
At the moment, this product is not very stable.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
I think it is horizontally scalable, but not vertically very scalable. It tends to run into issues with regards to performance if you require vertical scalability.
How are customer service and technical support?
In South Africa, the technical support is average. They should respond more quickly and be more customer friendly. The rep really needs to be more knowledgeable.
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
We previously used Veritas.
How was the initial setup?
The initial setup was quite complex and took us a few months to install. We used a partner and vendor for the installation because we had a lot of problems. As a result, we're not sure if we'll continue with the solution or choose an alternative.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
We chose Veeam because the licensing was cheap and we got a special deal from them.
What other advice do I have?
I wouldn't really recommend this solution. In terms of the integration of this solution, we're finding it doesn't do everything it promises. There is a difference between what the sales people tell you and the reality. Because of the issues we've had, I rate this solution four out of 10.
Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

Quick, easy to work with, and good support for Microsoft products
Pros and Cons
- "Veeam is quick, easy to work with, and its support for Microsoft products is good. They also provide adequate solutions for backing up Microsoft applications in the cloud, such as Office 365."
- "Veeam needs to have more support for non-Windows systems and other databases. For example, I can do SQL with Veeam but not Informix or Oracle. This is unfortunate because we have many partners with Oracle systems and Informix databases, and Veeam does not yet have the agents we need for specific Oracle and UNIX operating systems."
What is our primary use case?
We primarily use Veeam Backup and Replication in small installations and projects with Windows as well as standard Linux systems. We also use it as a backup solution for cloud products such as Office 365. In total, we have around 14 Veeam users, which covers about 100-200 devices using it.
Regarding the technical implementation, we have three primary technical personnel that maintain our use of Veeam. Because our company is multinational, with data centers located in Nordic countries such as Finland, we often have conferences outside our country and we share the services used to configure and perform the maintenance of our systems when needed. In this case, I can't point to an exact number of all the technical staff involved with Veeam throughout the greater organization.
Ideally, when it comes to backups, we prefer to use only one solution rather than two. However, we also have customers in the healthcare sector in Portugal who are using legacy UNIX and Oracle systems, and Veeam does not have agents for these operating systems. So when these customers want to create disaster recovery plans, we like to use Commvault to set up replication and create backup copies of the data code.
What is most valuable?
Veeam is quick, easy to work with, and its support for Microsoft products is good. They also provide adequate solutions for backing up Microsoft applications in the cloud, such as Office 365.
What needs improvement?
Veeam needs to have more support for non-Windows systems and other databases. For example, I can do SQL with Veeam but not Informix or Oracle. This is unfortunate because we have many partners with Oracle systems and Informix databases, and Veeam does not yet have the agents we need for specific Oracle and UNIX operating systems.
Because we are limited to using Veeam on mainly Microsoft systems, we have to resort to another backup and replication provider, Commvault, to handle these other systems. In general, I think that Veeam needs more improvement in terms of support for other applications and IT systems. It would be much more convenient for us to have all our backups for the different systems covered under one solution only, rather than having to use Veeam alongside other solutions like Commvault.
For how long have I used the solution?
I have been using Veeam for a couple of years now.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
As far as I've been using it, it has been a stable solution.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
With regard to scalability, we don't have any problems in terms of basic Windows systems.
How are customer service and technical support?
Our local support team for Veeam is composed of four technical members who assist with support across the board. In first line support, there are more support members, but in second line support there are only two to three people who can support our customers. However, the problems are generally so easy that when using Veeam across our data centers, there aren't many support issues that can't be solved quickly.
How was the initial setup?
It took us about five weeks to install Veeam in our environments and to implement it with our various solutions. We did not have much trouble with the initial setup, and it wasn't very difficult to work with.
What about the implementation team?
We have implemented Veeam in-house, as it is very important for us to do it this way when it comes to backups and data replication.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
We pay yearly licensing fees for Veeam in our data centers where we're using disaster recovery and replication between our many solutions, especially cloud solutions. From the beginning, we've done our licensing from a separate channel through our data center team in Seattle.
What other advice do I have?
Veeam is a good backup product but it definitely needs more complexity when it comes to supporting different types of systems and applications. That said, it works perfectly for how we use it in our Microsoft solutions and I know we will continue to use it.
I would rate Veeam Backup and Replication a ten out of ten.
Which deployment model are you using for this solution?
Public Cloud

Review about Veeam Backup & Replication
Pros and Cons
- "The solution works well in two different environments, whether it is on-premises, cloud, or a combination."
- "If you do not use the standard software and you go with a third-party solution such as this one, it might not work the same. There is an integration issue I understand between the database standards."
What is our primary use case?
We use the solution mainly for backup and redundancies. We keep historical VM images and replicate them to other data centers that we have.
What is most valuable?
The solution works well in two different environments, whether it is on-premises, cloud, or a combination.
What needs improvement?
If you do not use the standard software and you go with a third-party solution such as this one, it might not work the same. There is an integration issue I understand between the database standards.
Additionally, the solution can be difficult to manage if you do not have the training.
For how long have I used the solution?
I have been using the solution for approximately three years.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
The stability of the solution is good.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
We have deployed this solution mostly in medium to large size businesses.
How was the initial setup?
The installation is very straightforward.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
When it comes to pricing for a backup solution for data centers, you do not care about the price. We just care about the service and want it to be reliable. In terms of subscription, it really makes sense. When you want to use all the functionalities it is good that Veeam did the subscription-based model, this is what gives it the most strength on the price.
What other advice do I have?
I rate Veeam Backup Replication an eight out of ten.
Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

Easy to use, good performance, but inadequate technical support
Pros and Cons
- "The solution is easy to use and have good performance."
- "The data duplication should be improved."
What is our primary use case?
The solution can be used to backup databases. For example, from Windows, Linux, and Oracle. It is sometimes used by government organizations for email backup.
What is most valuable?
The solution is easy to use and have good performance.
What needs improvement?
The data duplication should be improved.
For how long have I used the solution?
I have been using the solution for a long time.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
I have found the solution to be stable.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
The solution is scalable.
How are customer service and technical support?
The technical support has not been good in my experience. They need to have faster and more reliable support for this solution.
How was the initial setup?
The installation was straightforward for me since I have done it before. It might not be for first time users. The time for the installation all depends on the environment.
What about the implementation team?
We have one technician for the maintenance and deployment.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
There is a license required for this solution and the price is a bit expensive but it depends on the environment that you have on how much it will cost.
What other advice do I have?
I rate Veeam Backup Replication a seven out of ten.
Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

Reliable, fixes itself, works well with SharePoint, and the support is helpful
Pros and Cons
- "It's fairly easy to manage and set up."
- "The initial setup could be simplified."
What is our primary use case?
We use this solution to back up our two VMware sites, and some physical boxes.
Mainly, it is used for our two VM sites at either campus.
It works with the client. We have it on a clustered SQL which works well.
We have local backups at either site, as well as some backups going to an external storage appliance. It gives us information about what is going on.
We are also using replication.
How has it helped my organization?
It has improved the way that our organizations function.
What is most valuable?
It's fairly easy to manage and set up.
Once you get it working, it's fairly reliable and fixes itself. It's pretty good at keeping the backups running.
It works well with SharePoint.
What needs improvement?
The initial setup could be simplified. It takes a bit to find the documentation.
It takes some time to get through the knowledge base and the changes in the versions over time.
Trying to find everything on how to configure it and set it up can get frustrating in trying to sort it out.
For how long have I used the solution?
I have been using this solution for three to four years.
I am using version 10.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
This solution is stable. Once we have all of the backups working, it never has any issues, except for the server going off, but that is a network issue or during the time that it's self-healing.
It keeps going and keeps running.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
It's a scalable solution. I added one. We have a couple of proxies at either campus with one backup server with an enterprise manager on it. It works well.
I am the only person in our organization who is using this solution.
How are customer service and technical support?
I have used technical support in three or four cases. They were able to help me. They are pretty good. I would rate them a nine out of ten.
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
We were using Microsoft Data Protection Manager and NetBackup. We decided to go with Veeam after testing it out, as it seemed to work better than the other products we were using.
How was the initial setup?
The initial setup is okay.
It just took a while to try to sort out what is going on with it.
What other advice do I have?
Review the documentation and their knowledge base on how to set it up and configure it.
It takes a bit to get it sorted out and to figure it out, but once you get it working it just keeps working.
I would rate Veeam Backup Replication a nine out of ten.
Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

Easy to deploy with good snapshots and instant recovery capabilities
Pros and Cons
- "The solution is very easy to deploy."
- "The pricing could be improved."
What is our primary use case?
The solution is used primarily for backup and replication.
What is most valuable?
The solution is the best product to backup and replicate in a real-time virtual platform.
This is the only product in the world that can do the two actions.
You can use a snapshot from many types of storage and restores granular items and functionality from the exchange, email, or any active data storage object.
You can do instant recovery, which is quite helpful. If you have any problems, you can start your Veeam from the backup and use it to restore, and it will do it in the background.
The solution is very easy to deploy.
The solution scales quite well. The performance has been good.
We've found the solution to be very stable so far.
Overall, it's a very good product.
What needs improvement?
The pricing could be improved. They should work to make it less expensive.
In one case, the solution did not support a backup from EIX Unix from IBM. This is the only handicap I've found in relation to the product.
For how long have I used the solution?
I've been using the solution for about three years at this point. It's been a while.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
The solution is quite stable. There are no bugs or glitches. It doesn't crash or freeze. It's quite reliable. The performance is good.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
We've deployed the solution for 10 to 20 customers.
The solution can scale. If a company needs to expand, it can do so.
How are customer service and technical support?
I've had some previous experience with technical support, and I don't really have any complaints. They were knowledgeable and responsive and I would say I've been satisfied with their assistance overall.
How was the initial setup?
The solution is very easy to deploy. It's one of the selling points of the product.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
The pricing is increasingly becoming more and more expensive. In 2020, it was a good price. After the last version, 10, the price has been very, very high.
What other advice do I have?
I'd rate the solution at a nine out of ten overall. If it weren't for the pricing issues, I'd likely rate it higher. It's a really great solution in general.

Easy to install with good virtualization and the capability to scale
Pros and Cons
- "For virtualization it's perfect."
- "The pricing could be better."
What is most valuable?
For virtualization it's perfect.
The solution is very simple to install. The support and maintenance are also very easy.
The solution can scale.
For the most part, the stability is okay.
What needs improvement?
The solution is pretty much the same as a solution such as Comet, however, the only difference is that this is a bit weaker and not so strong at covering the applications and the physical servers side.
This solution is very young and they don't have a lot of references.
For physical servers and some applications like SAP and databases, they're less good.
It's not quite as secure as Comet.
The pricing could be better.
For how long have I used the solution?
I've been using the solution for more than five years.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
The stability is okay. It's not as good as Comet. Veeam is stable, however, it's not quite optimized correctly.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
The solution is scalable, however, Comet is better in this regard. That said, if a company would like to expand, they can do so.
We have about 2,000 users on the solution. We have about 15 customers using the product.
How are customer service and technical support?
Technical support is fine. They are helpful and responsive. We're satisfied with the level of service they provide.
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
I've also used Comet, which I would describe as better almost across the board, except for the virtualization.
How was the initial setup?
The installation is pretty easy. It's not too complex.
It's 20% faster to install than Comet. It doesn't take too long to deploy.
Once everything is set up, it's very easy to maintain everything.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
The solution keeps getting more and more expensive. They should work on the pricing.
Every year, they seem to raise the price by 10-15%. They used to be cheap. Now they are costly.
What other advice do I have?
We have the solution deployed both on-premises and on the cloud.
I'd rate the solution at an eight out of ten. We're quite satisfied with the solution overall.
I'd recommend this solution to others.
Which deployment model are you using for this solution?
On-premises

- "Device backup could be improved."
What is most valuable?
The solution offers a strong performance, higher than Acronis. It has a high level of compatibility with the majority of applications such as Nutanix and others.
What needs improvement?
The backup of the device could be improved and it's also quite an expensive solution, more expensive than Acronis.
For how long have I used the solution?
I've been using this solution for five years.
How are customer service and technical support?
Veeam provides decent customer service.
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
I've used HiQ and Quest NetVault, and like them both.
What other advice do I have?
I rate this solution a nine out of 10.

Effectively coordinate data with limited intervention and provide alerts to issues
Pros and Cons
- "I know it's not exactly a feature, but I accept it works and it's easy to use. With the Veeam Backup & Replication, we have no problems in managing restore. Obviously, the most important thing about backup software. I used to say that every backup software can make backups, but only good ones can make a restore."
- "It's hard to answer because managing cloud storage in our version could be better, but now that they have improved it in the recent version, I cannot say it's a better point because I know it should be already fixed."
What is our primary use case?
We use Veeam Backup & Replication to backup, restore and replicate data across our storage locations.
How has it helped my organization?
I know it's not exactly a feature, but I accept it works and it's easy to use. With Veeam Backup & Replication, we have no problems in managing restore. Obviously, the most important thing about backup software. I used to say that every backup software can make backups, but only good ones can make a restore.
What is most valuable?
The features that we use most of Veeam Backup & Replication are SQL backup and tape backup. For us, tape backup is really important because we have to keep all our data on the site. We cannot use it for our sites in terms of policies or a cloud backup. We are using tape backup as a secondary repository. We use the tapes regularly. We also make a regular list of tests for tapes and are quite happy with how we are managing the process.
What needs improvement?
It's hard to answer because managing cloud storage in our version could be better, but now that they have improved it in the recent version, I cannot say it's a better point because I know it should be already fixed.
My point of view is not general but in particular because I can only tell you about the things that we need. For the things that we need, I mostly SQL backup, we have no issues with Veeam Backup & Replication. It's difficult to answer because I am waiting to try new features in the next version that we plan to install next month. So, I can't answer before I try these additional features that I will find in the next version.
For how long have I used the solution?
I have been using Veeam Backup & Replication for the past four years.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
For our space, we are using not only Veeam Backup & Replication but also Veeam ONE for monitoring, not only backups but for the environment. We have alerts if we have any problems with the backups. The only problem we are facing sometimes with Windows backup is that it is not large enough for periodic full backups, but this is not the problem of Veeam Backup & Replication, it is a problem of our environment. Veeam Backup & Replication end synthetic backups the following day without requiring a configuration plan and full backup.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
When we had Windows problems, Veeam Backup & Replication had no problem at all. It also manages other problems with no intervention.
How are customer service and technical support?
We used the service of the Veeam technical support once on the fifth day after installation, and it was a good experience. But that was a few years ago, so I can't tell you how their support works now. Fortunately, we didn't need to consult for the rest of the year.
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
We have used IBM Cloud Backup before, and one of the reasons that pushed us to change the Veeam Backup & Replication was that IBM Cloud Backup was really difficult to use. We have been using it for almost 10 years only to visualize the environment. When we started with IBM Cloud Backup, we also had physical servers. We currently don't have any physical servers. This is another reason we moved to a new generation backup solution.
How was the initial setup?
Veeam Backup & Replication is absolutely straightforward. We had some issues with the initial setup, but it is normal. The initial hardware configuration of the tape library was unclear because we are using a fibre genetic library, so we needed to configure our storage as a network, to have a Windows Server point, exact point contact to the library. However, once the Windows Server manages the tape library, Veeam Backup & Replication has no problems at all. We are using Windows drivers and not native Veeam drivers to manage the library.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
It's a proper price, as it isn't an issue for what Veeam Backup & Replication is giving us. Obviously, we are paying licensing for our physical VMware environment. It also depends on how the VMware environment is on the side. We have a few very big nodes. So, we need a few licenses and maybe if people had more nodes and sockets and each node was managing less information, machine supplies could be different.

Director Cloud Backup and DRaaS at a tech services company with 51-200 employees
Reasonably-priced and offers good support for virtualization, but it was not built for the cloud
Pros and Cons
- "We have evaluated other solutions but Veeam is the best for virtualization."
- "There is a lot of room for improvement, but the primary issue we have is that it's not built for the cloud."
What is our primary use case?
We are a managed service provider and we run a cloud backup company. We provide cloud backup services for customers and our primary platform is Veeam.
What is most valuable?
The primary reason that we use Veeam is the market share.
What needs improvement?
There is a lot of room for improvement, but the primary issue we have is that it's not built for the cloud. It wasn't designed for it but we're making it work.
For how long have I used the solution?
We have been using Veeam Backup & Replication for 10 years.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
There are bugs and other things that go wrong in almost any environment, although it's not that there's anything wrong with the product. That's just life in IT.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
Scalability-wise, it is okay, although it could be better.
We use it internally, although it revolves around our clients.
How are customer service and technical support?
Technical support is good and I would rate them a seven out of ten. The rating would improve if they were better at following up.
How was the initial setup?
The initial setup is complex. Our is a very large project to run in the cloud.
What about the implementation team?
We have our own Veeam certified engineers who deploy and maintain it.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
We spend hundreds of thousands of dollars on Veeam each year, although it is not expensive for what we get.
The licensing is something that could be improved.
Which other solutions did I evaluate?
We have evaluated other solutions but Veeam is the best for virtualization.
What other advice do I have?
My advice for anybody who is considering Veeam is that it's a good product. We do not have an environment that is user-centric, where I can make specific suggestions otherwise.
We are currently using version 10 and plan to move to version 11 within the next two months.
I would rate this solution a seven out of ten.

A backup and replication solution with good documentation and technical support.
Pros and Cons
- "The documentation is very good. It's also easy to install Veeam Backup and Replication."
- "I don't see much room for improvement except that the price could be better."
What is our primary use case?
We use Veeam Backup and Replication for the virtual server.
What is most valuable?
The documentation is very good. It's also easy to install Veeam Backup and Replication. They have also introduced a Continous Data Protection (CDP) feature, which is very good.
What needs improvement?
I don't see much room for improvement except that the price could be better.
For how long have I used the solution?
I have been in a partnership with Veeam for about four years.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
Veeam Backup and Replication is a stable product.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
Veeam Backup and Replication is a scalable solution.
How are customer service and technical support?
Technical support is good.
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
We use Commvault for the standalone server and VMware for different sites.
How was the initial setup?
The initial setup and implementation are straightforward.
What about the implementation team?
Two of us can deploy this solution depending on the use case. Usually, one person is enough to maintain Veeam.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
The license is a bit expensive.
What other advice do I have?
I would recommend this product to potential users.
On a scale from one to ten, I would give Veeam Backup and Replication an eight.

Offers many functionalities; very good data storing compression
Pros and Cons
- "Good compression when storing data."
- "The web interface could be more visual."
What is our primary use case?
We are integrators and resellers so we install this product in our clients' environment. I'm a data center architect.
What is most valuable?
A valuable feature is the compression when storing data. The product has a lot of functionalities even though they're not always used in my customers' environments.
What needs improvement?
I think that the web interface could be more visual. Also, when I was initially evaluating the solution, I had trouble finding detailed information about it and I think that could be improved too.
For how long have I used the solution?
I've been using this solution for two years.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
The solution is stable.
How are customer service and technical support?
As integrators, we use our own support. The documentation is user friendly and that's enough for us.
How was the initial setup?
The initial setup is straightforward.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
The licensing is on an annual basis and I think it's a good price.

Pros and Cons
- "The backup and replication capabilities are quite good."
- "The integration with other solutions should be improved."
What is our primary use case?
In my previous company, this was being used as the backup and replication solution.
What is most valuable?
The backup and replication capabilities are quite good.
What needs improvement?
The integration with other solutions should be improved.
For how long have I used the solution?
I have worked with Veeam Backup & Replication for two years. I stopped using it a few months ago when I changed companies.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
For the entire time that I used it, this product was stable.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
This a scalable solution.
How are customer service and technical support?
The technical support for Veeam is good.
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
We currently use Dell EMC Avamar and we also have experience with IBM Spectrum Protect.
These are all specialty tools and are good, although, for the needs of our organization, we prefer Avamar.
How was the initial setup?
The initial setup is easy.

Lead Engineer Storage at a computer software company with 201-500 employees
Great support, easy restore feature, and quite scalable and stable
Pros and Cons
- "Its ease of use for restore is really good. For Exchange, the Exchange Active Directory is great."
- "The implementation of the features can be improved. Currently, there is no segregation of duty. Normally, any backup software or client service software is implemented in a way where one person is responsible for the implementation of the server, and one is responsible for the client, but Veeam Backup & Replication is not implemented in that way. Therefore, restores don't work like that. The backup guys have to do the restores, which is not a good thing. Its pricing should also be improved. It is quite expensive."
What is our primary use case?
It is used for the virtual environment, which includes virtual Windows servers being on ESX or Hyper-V. It is also used for databases and Exchange in these environments.
We are using version 10. The latest version is 11, but we are not eager to use that because it came out only two weeks ago, and that is not enough for us.
What is most valuable?
Its ease of use for restore is really good. For Exchange, the Exchange Active Directory is great.
What needs improvement?
The implementation of the features can be improved.
It is quite expensive.
For how long have I used the solution?
I have been using this solution for more than 12 months.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
It is quite stable, but you cannot compare it to IBM Spectrum Protect. IBM Spectrum Protect is more stable than Veeam.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
It is quite scalable. We are planning to increase its usage. Its scalability is linear. You have more and more virtual systems and fewer physical systems. IBM Spectrum Protect is more for physical systems, and Veeam is for virtual systems.
How are customer service and technical support?
Their technical support is great. I would rate them a ten out of ten.
How was the initial setup?
It is complex. You certainly need some external guidance for this. The deployment itself is not a big thing. It is the creation of the architecture that is complex. You have to create an architecture that fits your needs.
What about the implementation team?
We can do it ourselves.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
Veeam is quite expensive. There are no additional costs to the licensing fees. IBM Spectrum Protect is also expensive.
They should improve its pricing. They raise the price every time there is an increase in the features of the product. They should think twice about that.
Which other solutions did I evaluate?
We had a look around, but we decided on Veeam.
What other advice do I have?
I would rate Veeam Backup & Replication an eight out of ten.

Director at a printing company with 11-50 employees
Provides automated recovery verification for both backups and replicas
Pros and Cons
- "It's relatively easy to use and the ability to recover in a short period of time has been great."
- "Even though the speed has improved over the years, I think that there are some instances where it still takes a while."
What is our primary use case?
I'm actually a consultant, so I deploy it for my customers — quite a few of them.
Our clients are partly interested in backing up their application servers and their environment — that's the first priority. Some of our clients have gone a bit further into remote disaster recovery, off-site disaster recovery. They replicate to another location for those purposes.
Our clients are small to medium-sized companies.
What is most valuable?
There are a few of them. It's relatively easy to use and the ability to recover in a short period of time has been great — I think that works quite well. I've compared Veeam with other products and to me, it works the best of the lot.
What needs improvement?
Even though the speed has improved over the years, I think that there are some instances where it still takes a while. In some cases, we have experienced fluctuations in performance. For example, yesterday we performed a synthetic full backup. Normally, this takes less than 90 minutes, but other times, it takes well more than six hours to get 40% of the way.
Other than that, I find that it does what is expected and maybe a bit more. I also don't think that I've really tapped into all of the features of it as yet.
For how long have I used the solution?
I have been using Veeam Backup & Replication for roughly 10 years.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
Veeam Backup & Replication is very stable.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
As I mentioned earlier, I have not really investigated all of the features, and one of them is potentially more scalability than anything else. Regarding what little I have done so far, it seems to be pretty scalable. I do have a couple of projects in the works that I'm going to push out a bit more, so I won't be able to give a fair assessment until I have gone through those projects.
How are customer service and technical support?
I would say it is good. I'm trying to remember when the last time was that I had to call technical support. I think they're very satisfactory overall.
I think that the support resources are adequate. They're pretty good, actually. At the moment, I can't think of anything in terms of technical support and the community support that is lacking.
How was the initial setup?
The initial setup is straightforward. There were no major issues. Well, there was one issue, but that was with an older version of it. For some reason, it would not work on a machine that was part of a domain, but I got that sorted out using a later version of the software.
What about the implementation team?
Regarding deployment, I was able to install the software myself. I had it up and running in a couple of days. We went through a period of more than a week to ensure that the backups were being done properly, were being finished properly. I would say within a couple of weeks it settled down and it's been working fine since then.
In terms of deployment, it usually takes one person. I installed it with a colleague — we're both Veeam certified, so that helps. From the point of view of the end-users, they seemed to grasp it pretty readily. At every institution, there are one or two people that are needed to maintain it — that's it. As I said, it's stable and relatively simple to use. My customers are satisfied with it.
Which other solutions did I evaluate?
Some of our clients were using solutions like Arc-Serv, Backup Exec. There are a couple of clients who actually evaluated NAKIVO and Veeam a few years ago. There was one client that was comparing Commvault to Veeam. They eventually went with Commvault, but a lot of that has to do with the support of AS400 symbols. They were able to manage their backup costs and a number of different environments using Commvault.
A number of my clients moved from physical machines to virtual ones. They were using primarily Arc-Serv and Veritas Backup Exec, which proved to be a bit inadequate for new virtual environments. It was never seamless. It was never as straightforward as you would have liked. With NAKIVO, we found that it tended to be easier to deal with. Still, even though one of our customers did go with NAKIVO, after a couple of years, they actually moved onto Veeam.
What other advice do I have?
I would absolutely recommend this solution to others.
I've been using it for a number of years and the bottom line is — it works very well and is simple to use. Within an hour or two, my customers are comfortable enough to be able to create their jobs and monitor job progress, etc. If it works for them, it works for me.
Overall, on a scale from one to ten, I would give this solution a rating of nine.
Which deployment model are you using for this solution?
On-premises

An easy initial setup with technical support and the ability to handle multiple jobs
Pros and Cons
- "The initial setup is very easy."
- "The stability could be better, specifically in the cloud."
What is most valuable?
The VMR is the solution's most valuable aspect.
There is a great catchup backup quality to the solution.
We can have multiple jobs going so long as we have the proper licensing in effect. It's quite helpful.
The initial setup is very easy.
Technical support has been very good. They're helpful.
What needs improvement?
While we used the cloud and on-premises deployment models, on the cloud we found we had some issues and we moved to everything on-premises to counteract that.
The solution needs to fix its incremental sizing. Currently, we are facing an issue with the incremental backup. For example, with a normal user laptop, it is taking a huge amount of incremental backup on a daily basis - more than two, three DBS it is taking place on a daily basis. Much improvement is needed. Though the compression rate is good, what exactly they are backing up on daily basis for such a great extent is unresolved. We want to understand why this is happening.
The stability could be better, specifically in the cloud. We had bad experiences with the cloud. We were using Azure and we found some security issues in terms of ransomware. We relied on the cloud backup, however, the data in the cloud ended up also getting corrupted due to the ransomware. Data security is a huge concern on the cloud, in our experience.
The scalability could be more effective.
For how long have I used the solution?
I've been using the solution for about two years at this point.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
The stability is okay, however, it isn't as stable as we would like it to be. There could be some improvement.
We had issues with ransomware getting into the cloud backup and causing troubles for us. It's not as secure on the cloud as it needs to be.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
The scalability could be better. It isn't quite where we need it just yet.
We currently have 20 people using the solution. They are backing up the server time and users.
How are customer service and technical support?
We've been satisfied with the level of support we get from technical support. They are helpful and responsive. They've been good overall.
How was the initial setup?
The initial setup is not complex. It's very easy and very straightforward. A company should have no trouble with the process of deployment.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
The licensing is pretty good. If you have it set up correctly, it allows the solution to take on multiple jobs.
What other advice do I have?
We have experience in both on-premises and cloud deployment models.
I'd rate the solution at a seven out of ten. While the on-premises deployment seems to be working well for us, the cloud has given us problems.
Which deployment model are you using for this solution?
On-premises
If public cloud, private cloud, or hybrid cloud, which cloud provider do you use?

Flexible and scalable, supports physical systems and VMs, integrates with major applications, and has a free edition
Pros and Cons
- "It is a flexible, simple, and scalable software-based solution. It has agentless functionality with specific hypervisors and agent-based functionality with specific operating systems. It gives you the flexibility to use your own hardware and back up physical Windows, Linux, IBM AIX, and Oracle Solaris systems as well as VMware VMs, Hyper-V VMs, and Nutanix VMs from one console. It also has integration with major applications that most companies are using, such as Active Directory, SQL, Exchange, or SharePoint. It has integrations, not just for the backup on the image, host layer, or hypervisor, but also for performing an application-consistent backup. It is helpful in backing up to the tape, cloud, DR site, etc. It is really flexible. It is really amazing that you can restore any backup on VMware, Azure, or AWS. As compared to the other solutions in the market. Veeam has really integrated a lot in the past years. It has the best performance and perfect replication."
- "Veeam Backup Replication has agents for Linux, but they are not supporting Cluster Shared Volumes. It would be great to have agents for Linux be cluster-aware, just like the Windows agents. That's the main pain point. In addition, we should be able to handle the automation of Oracle backups from the backup server. We should be able to schedule, control, and deploy them from the backup server rather than relying on scripts and/or the system you are backing up to perform the backup. Currently, we install the plug-in inside Oracle VMs and then use crontabs to handle the task schedule on each machine for scheduling the backups. Veeam Backup Replication should also support the automation of Nutanix backups from the backup server, not from the proxy. The other not so major thing is that they don't support legacy systems because Veeam is a new company. It is not as old as other companies. They don't support physical workloads that are really old, which a major challenge, but they do have a point. Legacy systems should be virtualized, and if they're virtualized, then the backup is not an issue with Veeam, but some customers like the physical setup, and they don't want to have it virtual."

For how long have I used the solution?
I have been using this solution for the past three years.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
It is scalable. We have many users of this solution.
Veeam doesn't focus on a particular segment. Small, medium, and large businesses can use it for backup. Solutions such as Veritas, Commvault, and Rubrik are more focused on the enterprise segment, and they are not really SMB friendly. Veeam has really excelled on that part.
If you are a small business today, you'll grow tomorrow, and Veeam will grow with you. There are certain scenarios where Veeam is not a perfect fit, but for a vast majority of scenarios, Veeam is basically the number one solution in the market, especially now with their new release in which they have a new feature to conduct beautiful backups to Linux repositories.
The main challenge for small and medium businesses has been the investment in backup storage that can provide such features. Most of the solutions that can provide such features are pretty expensive, and they weren't an option for small and medium businesses. Now, they can just install Veeam on a Windows Server, Linux, Ubuntu, and other systems and configure the backups and store the backups on that storage itself.
How are customer service and support?
Their support is perfect for the Veeam Backup Replication for VMware and Hyper-V workload because Veeam started as a backup company for backing up VMware and Hyper-V environments. Now they have agents all over the place. They have lots of products and plug-ins. If you have an issue with a specific item of a pretty new product and the team behind is not so big, you can run into issues in terms of the response time and resolution in a timely fashion.
In certain situations, you need to contact a specific team, but they don't have a unified support model in which you just open a support case, and then they figure out internally which team to assign it to. You have to pick the team to which your issue belongs. So, if your problem is with VMware or Hyper-V backups or restores, you can open a case with the Veeam Backup Replication team. If you have an issue with the Agent for Windows, you need to open a case with the Agent for Windows team. If you have any issue with Nutanix backups, you need to open a case with the respective team. Sometimes, you get into a loop between teams because an issue can be complex and applicable to multiple teams. When a case is going from one team to another team, you get a lot of emails. Other than that, their support is great.
How was the initial setup?
The installation doesn't take much time. It also depends on the customer environment, but installing the software is pretty much "next, next, next", and then you just have to wait for the installation to complete. It relies on your CPU, memory, and disk resources, so the faster your server is, the faster it can happen. Some installations can take one hour, and some installations can take 15 minutes. It really depends on the environment.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
They have a free edition that can back up up to 10 VMs or physical servers. Small and medium businesses can use this edition until they can afford to get a license, and after they get a license, they just activate it on the same console. That's the amazing thing about it.
What other advice do I have?
I would definitely recommend this solution to others. It can be deployed on-prem or on the cloud. They also have a new cloud-specific product. They have an agentless backup for Azure Cloud, AWS Cloud, and Google Cloud, but you can still use Veeam Backup Replication on the cloud.
I would rate Veeam Backup & Replication a nine out of ten.

A stable and scalable backup solution with valuable features
Pros and Cons
- "I like all the backup features in Veeam."
- "The price can be better."

Manager, Cloud workload Migration & Onboarding Lead at Globe Telecom
A straightforward solution that comes with good support and can be used as an alternative approach for migrating from on-premise to cloud or for disaster recovery
Pros and Cons
- "It is a straightforward solution. There is no need for a dedicated technical person to do the backup and replication. Veeam is very straightforward when it comes to doing the replication."
- "It needs to support more applications. In terms of supported applications, Oracle SQL and Office 365 are supported, but I am not sure if it supports Linux-based applications. That's why I'm looking for an alternative. I am currently testing Commvault. The advantage of Commvault is that a lot of applications are supported with it. I am not sure if CIFS is currently supported. It would be nice to have this feature in case it is not already supported"
What is our primary use case?
Our company is an integrator, and we are offering the Veeam solution for our existing clients and some prospective clients. We currently have 10 to 15 clients.
What is most valuable?
It is a straightforward solution. There is no need for a dedicated technical person to do the backup and replication. Veeam is very straightforward when it comes to doing the replication.
What needs improvement?
It needs to support more applications.
It would be nice to have this feature in case it is not already supported.
For how long have I used the solution?
I have been using this solution for over a year now.
How are customer service and technical support?
Veeam offers good support. After you get their product, they provide online support. You just need to raise a ticket, and then someone from global support will contact you. I'm okay with Veeam's support.
How was the initial setup?
It is very straightforward. You just need to spin up the virtual machine and enter proxy, and then you can start the backup.
The deployment takes a couple of hours. It takes a maximum of two or three hours to deploy it for an enterprise. It is a really straightforward solution. To deploy it for an enterprise, you need at least two to three resources.
What other advice do I have?
This solution could be used as an alternative approach for migration from on-premise to cloud or for disaster recovery. If you have two data centers and you need to replicate the primary virtual machines to another site, this can be an option.
I would recommend this solution to others. I would rate Veeam Backup & Replication a nine out of ten.
Which deployment model are you using for this solution?
On-premises

Easy to install with good incremental backup capabilities and works for companies of various sizes
Pros and Cons
- "The solution can work for companies no matter the size or scope."
- "There needs to be more integration with VMware and the virtual machine."
What is our primary use case?
I primarily use the solution for replication, backup, and disaster recovery.
It's basically BaaS, Backup as a Service in in physical and virtual environments,
and DRaaS, Disaster Recovery as a Service. It allows for backups on-premise.
What is most valuable?
The solution allows for incremental backup and incremental reverse. It's very helpful.
Overall, it's a good product. The tool is very important to our organization.
They've gone ahead and improved 90% of the tool. They have the software that we need and we've really enjoyed using them overall.
The solution is easy to install and the programming is pretty basic.
The solution can work for companies no matter the size or scope.
What needs improvement?
In the future, I would like to see the product offer a full backup, virtual machines, and point systems as well as database and application power in the Veeam Backup. There needs to be more integration with VMware and the virtual machine.
For my client, bandwidth is a problem. We do not know the sizing of the environment and it's a problem in every RPO in the time of sizing. This is a big problem.
If the solution could offer a backup for SAN as part of its functionality, that would be a major advantage in comparison to other software companies. It is made for VMware. This is a specialty tool for VMware virtual machines. It would be ideal if it could also be for Veeam and you didn't have to leverage it via VMware.
For how long have I used the solution?
I've been using the solution for about three years at this point.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
We handle all sizes of company. It doesn't matter if it is medium, large, or small - including government organizations and banks, which can be quite sizable.
How are customer service and technical support?
I don't have too many tickets with Veeam, however, I do find it hard to communicate with them. They could be better in that sense. I do use them rarely, although I do have an open ticket right now.
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
I'm also using CloudConnect, as well.
How was the initial setup?
The initial setup is not overly complex. It's pretty easy to install. For us, the implementation is straightforward, as it is what we do. We handle implementations for a variety of clients.
What about the implementation team?
We handle the implementation ourselves for our clients. We don't need an implementor or consultant to help us.
Which other solutions did I evaluate?
We have looked at other solutions in the past - for example, VMware.
The difference is in licensing. Veeam is licensed via a virtual machine or a physical machine. Other companies have a different setup.
However, VMware is very easy to use in terms of functionality, and the console makes it easier to create jobs from a backup.
What other advice do I have?
We are partners with Veeam.
We have the solution on-premise in our data center. I have platforms in VMware and Hyper-V.
I'd recommend the solution to other organizations. I'd rate the solution at a nine out of ten.
Which deployment model are you using for this solution?
On-premises

An easy-to-manage, stable, and scalable solution for disaster recovery and instant VM recovery
Pros and Cons
- "The instant VM recovery feature is the most valuable. It is a very good tool for disaster recovery. It is also easy to manage."
- "Its licensing needs to be improved. Its licensing has become complex since last December. They have changed the way the product is licensed, and there is a lot of confusion. Sometimes, when a new version comes, it seems that it has not been tested enough because I usually find some bugs in it. It could also have more integration with other virtualization products, such as desktop virtualization products and open-source virtualization products."
What is our primary use case?
We mainly use it for backup. We are using its latest version.
How has it helped my organization?
It protects us from losing data and having downtime.
What is most valuable?
The instant VM recovery feature is the most valuable. It is a very good tool for disaster recovery. It is also easy to manage.
What needs improvement?
Its licensing needs to be improved. Its licensing has become complex since last December. They have changed the way the product is licensed, and there is a lot of confusion.

For how long have I used the solution?
I have been using this product for three years.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
It is pretty stable.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
Its scalability is great. It offers a lot of options from the scalability point of view.
We have many users of this solution. Most of the workers are using this solution for backup.
We use it daily, and we are planning to keep using this solution.
How are customer service and technical support?
Their technical support is really good. Their responses are quick enough, and they are knowledgeable about the solution.
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
We didn't use any other product.
How was the initial setup?
Its initial setup was pretty straightforward. It took me about four hours to implement everything and configure everything. You just need one administrator for its deployment and maintenance.
Which other solutions did I evaluate?
We did not evaluate any other product.
What other advice do I have?
I would recommend this product. It is a very good product.
I would rate Veeam Backup & Replication an eight out of ten.

User-friendly and quite stable with a straightforward setup
Pros and Cons
- "The initial setup is pretty straightforward."
- "Although the solution offers documentation, it has it only in English, which doesn't help us much in Belarus."
What is our primary use case?
We use Veeam in our company for demo purposes to present to our clients and our customers. We have some keys in production implementation in the production environment, in our clients' infrastructure.
What is most valuable?
The solution is a very convenient instant crypto machine. It's great for virtual machine recovery, mass storage, data immigration, restoring backups of physical service to mutual environments, et cetera.
Some features of Veeam will work in cloud environments, such as Azure.
The solution is extremely user-friendly.
Overall, the product has proven to be quite stable.
The solution has extensive documentation.
The initial setup is pretty straightforward.
What needs improvement?
I just started working with version 11 in January and I am still looking at the changes. I haven't come across areas of the solution that are lacking just yet. I still need to explore it more.
Although the solution offers documentation, it has it only in English, which doesn't help us much in Belarus. It would be much more helpful if they provided their documentation in multiple languages.
The backup jobs and the scheduled tuning are not as convenient as compared to a solution such as Data Protector. They should work on these aspects to make them more convenient.
Veeam can not do some backup jobs. yOu can only arrange it on a daily basis and no more than that. You can't, for example, do a backup twice in one day, even if you need to.
For how long have I used the solution?
I've been working with the solution for a while. I just started using the latest version in January.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
The stability of the solution is good. There are no bugs or glitches. It doesn't crash or freeze. It's excellent.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
The solution is scalable. If a company needs to expand it, it can do so.
How are customer service and technical support?
We've never had to open a ticket for Veeam. I've never dealt with technical support directly. I can't speak to how knowledgable or responsive they are.
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
Up until two years ago, I worked with Micro Focus Data Protector, version 9.5. It's more for enterprises and has more capabilities for working with tape libraries, replication between the sites, data trends, or working with virtual tape libraries, and so on. It is more expensive, however, in comparison to Veeam.
How was the initial setup?
The initial setup is not overly complex. It's rather straightforward. Specifically, when it comes to small environments, deployment is very easy. You don't have to be overly skilled to do an implementation.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
I don't know the exact pricing of the software. I can't speak to its direct costs.
Which other solutions did I evaluate?
I haven't properly evaluated Commvault, however, I've attended webinars on the solution and have a bit of familiarity with it.
What other advice do I have?
I'm an integrator. Our organization is a Gold Partner with Veeam.
Overall, I would rate the solution at an eight out of ten. It's pretty good.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
They could work at providing a better price.
What other advice do I have?
It is a very good product. It does what it takes to backup virtual machines. It is easy to set up and it is very quick.
So far, there isn't anything that I don't like and we are very happy with it.

A reliable backup, disaster recovery, and intelligent data management solution
Pros and Cons
- "Its backup capabilities in general are great."
- "I prefer a software backup solution that allows me to easily define my origin data, including data files, folders, and virtual machines."
What is our primary use case?
We use this solution to backup our files and virtual machines.
We use this solution to backup information for our customers. We back up our customers' servers and store the information on local networks. This way, if something goes wrong, we can easily recover the information from our backups.
We have 40 machines that we backup with this solution.
What is most valuable?
Its backup capabilities in general are great.
What needs improvement?
My problem with backup software is the following: The main advantage that all of this software strives for is the ability to store data on a proprietary file system. When you look at the backup files stored in Veeam and other solutions, you cannot directly see the real files. Instead, you see a file structure where the backups are stored inside. This means if you lose the configuration of your backup machine, you only have files stored in a kind of file system that you just cannot get data from. I prefer backup solutions that allow me to regularly look at my backup files — to see the actual files.
I prefer a software backup solution that allows me to easily define my origin data, including data files, folders, and virtual machines. On the targets, they are stored exactly how they are. If it's a virtual machine file, I can find the virtual machine file stored somewhere. I cannot find my folders in a file structure that I don't understand what's in it. I understand why many backup solutions have this kind of file structure; however, this means I also have to have a full backup of the recovery system of my definition configurations.
I don't really like the proprietary file system or file structure, I always prefer the most simple functionalities where I can define this server, this file, these folders, backing up for this target, etc. I am not a fan of cloud storage for backups. Otherwise, I have to have another backup solution or my SAS backup cloud. In short, I am making backups of backups of backups. For me, that's a nightmare.
For how long have I used the solution?
I have been using Veeam Backup & Replication for roughly two years.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
Both the scalability and the stability of Veeam Backup & Replication are good.
How are customer service and technical support?
Normally, I never need to contact technical support. I guess I would need to if I were using Azure cloud storage, but I don't use Azure for storing backups. As I said, I don't trust the cloud for backups.
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
We also use some other solutions, but they are open-source, not commercial solutions. We still use a lot of open-source backup solutions because they actually do what we need. They grab data from one place and they store it where we want without storing it in a special data structure. They store the files exactly as they came from the origin; they go to the target and that's it.
How was the initial setup?
The initial setup is straightforward.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
We don't pay for this solution, our customers do.
What other advice do I have?
One thing that I enjoy with some open-source solutions is that they're normally the fastest to implement.
With open source solutions, if I have a server and I need to backup something into a folder, either an internet folder, a shared folder on the local network, or a local storage folder, I do not have to have these folders open on the origin system. I only open these folders at the time of transmitting the files, and then they are closed automatically. This means I do not have these folders open if I don't need them because it's safer that way to prevent ransomware attacks and so on.
As I said, don't trust the cloud. If you use the cloud, be sure to have a backup of the cloud. Testing is much more preferable on-premises. This on-premise location can be the local office of the company where you are doing it from, and also remote offices. Just don't use a cloud where you don't know where the server is.
On-premises, when I say "cloud", I mean the internet. I can have an office in London, and if I want to back up on-premise, I do it on the local storage. I don't use general clouds like Azure. I have a server where I know where it is in some location and I remotely back up into that server. I don't buy storage on clouds. I'm really not a good customer for that. I don't trust them. They're excellent, they are really what people say are the future, but I have experienced too many disruptions on clouds. If I go into a software solution where I have to move the cloud, this obligates me to also have a solution to backup the cloud. I don't want to have these two solutions going from the office to the cloud and then also backing up the cloud — it's a nightmare.
Overall, on a scale from one to ten, I would give this solution a rating of eight.
Which deployment model are you using for this solution?
On-premises

A fast and easy-to-use solution that supports incremental backups and allows us to do a rollback and recover our services with a little downtime
Pros and Cons
- "The peace of mind of the backup is very important. Incremental backups make it fast and easy to use. We can recover from any failures in case of any hardware failures or malware attacks. We can do a rollback and recover our services with a little downtime. We can rollback even in the case of unsuccessful updates."
- "They have an integration with MS SQL, and you have to license MS SQL. This is something they need to change. They should go for an open-source database or a free SQL because you're already buying this product, and you shouldn't have to buy another product."
What is our primary use case?
We use it to guarantee the uptime of our services and servers. We are using its latest version.
What is most valuable?

They have an integration with MS SQL, and you have to license MS SQL. This is something they need to change. They should go for an open-source database or a free SQL because you're already buying this product, and you shouldn't have to buy another product.
For how long have I used the solution?
I have been using this solution for a little over a year.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
It is very stable.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
It is scalable. It is just a complaint about MS SQL, but with everything else, it is really scalable. You can just add resources and use what you need. It is really flexible. We have six analysts who use this solution.
How are customer service and technical support?
I have never used their technical support.
How was the initial setup?
It is fairly easy to set up the solution. The deployment took just a few hours. Generally, two business days would be enough.
What other advice do I have?
I would advise planning your deployments ahead of time and predicting space refinements so that you can set up everything correctly. If you need to change it later, it is a little more complicated.
I would rate Veeam Backup & Replication a nine out of ten.

Easy to set up, supports file and image-level restore, and offers on-the-fly migration
Pros and Cons
- "The initial setup was very easy."
- "If a single file is corrupt then the restoration of the entire backup will fail."
What is our primary use case?
We use Veeam to back up our virtual machines, software, and data.
We also use it to replicate data that is on the cloud, outside of the company.
What is most valuable?
It is very easy to restore files and images.
It supports migration on the fly.
What needs improvement?
If a single file is corrupt then the restoration of the entire backup will fail. This type of dependency is a problem.
I would like to see some customized backup functions that allow the end-users to make copies of files.
For how long have I used the solution?
I have been working with Veeam Backup & Replication for six years.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
Veeam is a stable solution and we haven't had any problems with it.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
We have not needed to scale yet, but if required, I think that it is scalable.
We have one group who is using it. Our end-users do not run backups themselves.
How are customer service and technical support?
This product is supported well.
How was the initial setup?
The initial setup was very easy.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
We are happy with the pricing and we pay for licensing on a subscription basis.
Which other solutions did I evaluate?
We evaluated Commvault as a backup solution but settled on Veeam.
What other advice do I have?
For users who are interested in folder backup, I recommend Veeam.
I would rate this solution a nine out of ten.
Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

Reliable, affordable and user friendly
Pros and Cons
- "Veeam Backup & Replication is a great alternative to what is out there. Some of the backups just allow an agent backup to the cloud. You can back up a thousand different ways, but this is a great way to keep a customer and a company in compliance in that they've got their data secure onsite and offsite. The data being transferred to the NAS at the customer's location and also the data being sent to the cloud is encrypted in transit and it's also encrypted at rest so that nobody is going to be able to hack into that. No one will have the keys to do that."
- "Veeam is good up until 300 VMs."
What is our primary use case?
Our primary use case with Veeam Backup & Replication is to backup critical data. We would recommend that a person put on a Veeam backup service so that in a disaster recovery scenario you set what has to come back up first because that is going to be the critical information that has to go back up as quickly as possible. You can put anything on critical servers, but we recommend that you use it for critical data that it is going to be restored within a four hour timeframe.
Veeam Backup & Replication can be deployed as agent-based or you can set it up to replicate back to a NAS, some sort of device onsite, so that a copy of your data goes to the device onsite and another copy goes to a data center for a backup as well. Then, if that server crashes, the device that's at the location has the latest copy of the good data from where they get the backup.
How has it helped my organization?
Veeam Backup & Replication has most definitely improved our organization because it saves the IT a lot of headache.
What is most valuable?
Veeam Backup & Replication is a great alternative to what is out there. No one will have the keys to do that.
The dashboard is very, very easy to understand. We do demonstrations all the time with customers just to show them. If they've lost particular files because of a server going down, we can retrieve those files for them and quickly bring those files back up. So in a disaster recovery where you've got a location that's either been hit with a tornado, a hurricane, an earthquake, or whatever the disaster might be, this company and customer has to be up, then this data is secured offsite as well, and can be pulled down either to a VM, a virtual machine, or to another physical server. It is just a matter of how fast your internet connection is.
What needs improvement?
Until internet connectivity becomes standard all over the country and all over the world, as far as minimum speeds, the main thing would be just making sure that your data is being transferred as quickly as possible, that the data transfers are seated correctly, and that the replication takes place and is monitored. The service can be managed or unmanaged, it just depends on the customer's IT ability as to how much or how little we can help.
There is always room for improvement on anything, but at this point I think it's perfect. But I'm sure there are other things that customers are wanting that Veeam could probably put in their next update or patch. But at this point I don't have any information on that.
As companies grow, it just depends on what their needs are as to what we can help them with as far as the recovery is concerned. Larger businesses with more than 300 VMs would be a perfect scenario for Rubrik. Veeam, I think is good up until 300 VMs. With other services that we have, it could be lower than a hundred VMs, but it seems that Veeam is in a good spot.
For how long have I used the solution?
I have been using Veeam Backup & Replication for probably the last four years.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
This solution runs very smoothly unless there is a server that goes offline on a customer's site that we don't know about, but other than that, the service is rock solid.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
The scalability is pretty much straightforward. It's just like updating software. For anybody that has a little bit of sense about how to update services it is pretty straightforward and simple.
Our clients are a mixture of small, medium and large businesses and they are all over the country.
How are customer service and technical support?
I do sales, so I'm the one that is responsible for selling the sizzle. My IT folks, my engineers, are the ones that face Veeam the company. I would say that the majority of the companies that we deal with in backup and recovery are very, very responsive and I feel Veeam is the same way. It's a great software package, it is inexpensive and it does a lot of things that IT companies and people in general want to see.
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
We use EVault software and Carbonite backups, it just depends on the customer. If you can tolerate 12 to 24 hours of being out of service, then we have other backup services that are right in the ballpark in pricing, but just older technologies. Nowadays everything is like McDonald's and I want it now. I want my hamburger now and I want my data now. It is getting to where customers want that faster RTO and RPO so that they can have their company back up and making money as quickly as possible.
How was the initial setup?
The initial setup is pretty straightforward if you've got a person that knows how things go. Most midsize and large companies will have an IT person on staff that would understand that. If they don't understand it, of course our guys, our engineers, can train them for that and show them which way to go. But normally IT people are pretty familiar with dashboards.
What other advice do I have?
My advice to anyone considering Veeam Backup & Replication would be to definitely demo it and see what you think about it because you can't try it before you buy it, and see how it works in your environment. I'm not too sure if there are any trials that go on for a month at a time, but it depends on the customer. If they decide that this is something good for them, then we move forward with it and adjust as we go. But the majority of our customers know what Veeam is and have seen the product out there, because I send a lot of information out via LinkedIn and send emails to my customers about those services. It would just depend on whether it was an attorney's office, a hospital, whatever he is, but those folks would want to have their data as quickly as possible.
On a scale of one to ten, I would give Veeam Backup & Replication a 10.

A reliable backup solution with a straightforward interface
Pros and Cons
- "I think the interface is straightforward"
- "Technical support can be improved."
What is our primary use case?
We use Veeam to backup all the virtual machines and all the company data.
How has it helped my organization?
It's a backup solution. The only way it has improved the organization is by giving us a modern and robust backup solution. The previous solution wasn't complex, lacked features, and was abandoned.
What is most valuable?
I think the interface is straightforward. It's not complex. The other thing I like is that it usually works very well.
What needs improvement?
Technical support can be improved. Cloud backup could also be better. It would be better if there were an option to back up and then manually attach to storage. It's possible on-premises, but this isn't possible on the cloud.
For how long have I used the solution?
I've been using Veeam Backup & Replication for two years.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
I consider it to be very stable.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
It depends on the license. If we have more laws, more data to back up, then it's possible to do it. It's very scalable. It's only an issue of licenses and if it's necessary to increase the bandwidth and if it's necessary to increase the number of proxy servers. It's very scalable, and the product has no limits.
How are customer service and technical support?
We had issues with the technical support. We had a very good response for some incidents and a very bad one for other incidents. It isn't homogeneous. It's a bit heterogeneous. It has a lot to do with the support engineers that deal with your case.
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
We did look at other options. The other solutions I was looking at weren't good enough.
How was the initial setup?
The on-premises installation was very simple, but the on cloud installation has been more complex. It took us about one week for on-premises and three weeks for cloud deployment.
What about the implementation team?
We used a reseller to implement the solution.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
It's the market price. It isn't expensive, nor is it cheap.
What other advice do I have?
I would advise potential users to consider this solution and analyze it. See if this could be a good solution for their use case. Even though there's room for improvement, I believe it's a good solution.
On a scale from one to ten, I would give Veeam Backup & Replication an eight.
Which deployment model are you using for this solution?
Public Cloud

Good price to performance ratio, stable, and simple to use
Pros and Cons
- "What I like most about this solution are the simplicity and the price-performance ratio."
- "It's a great product, but only if you have everything virtualized."
What is our primary use case?
We are resellers of Veeam with an official partnership and a contract for reselling the product.
What is most valuable?
What I like most about this solution are the simplicity and the price-performance ratio.
What needs improvement?
It's a great product, but only if you have everything virtualized. If you still have non-virtualized environments, then it's not treatable for customers who have some products we can not virtualize. For example, another service, or if you have Oracle or other databases, then it's not treatable for those environments.
For how long have I used the solution?
We have been using Veeam Backup Replication from the point that Veeam was available.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
It's a stable solution. We have not had any complaints from our clients.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
It's scalable with no issues.
How are customer service and technical support?
If we have any issues, our technician teams contact the manufacture if they need help.
How was the initial setup?
The initial setup and deployment are handled by our technician. I have never done it myself, but from my understanding, it's easy.
We have a team in-house for maintenance.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
The price is quite fair.
People always want something cheaper but then it doesn't work as well.
What other advice do I have?
Most of the time, we recommend Veeam because it's good enough. But in some environments, we don't see any reason for it and we recommend other solutions.
Know your environment before choosing Veeam to ensure that it is suitable.
I would rate this solution an eight out of ten.
Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

Stable, scalable, easy to setup, offer good support
Pros and Cons
- "It's not complex to replicate and back up the system."
- "I would like to see the replication and a recovery plan of the servers in the cloud. It's very important."
What is our primary use case?
We use this solution for virtualization with VMware. I have approximately 50 servers. We also use it for replication of the file server.
How has it helped my organization?
There haven't seen any changes to the way the organization has improved.
What needs improvement?
I would like to see the replication and a recovery plan of the servers in the cloud. It's very important.
For how long have I used the solution?
I have been using this solution for three months.
We use one of the first versions of this product.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
It's a stable product. I would rate it an eight out of ten.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
It's a scalable solution.
In our company, we have one administrator and one other operator who use it. One person for each server.
Based on the orders we receive, we will continue to use this product.
How are customer service and technical support?
Technical support is good. I would rate them an eight out of ten.
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
Previously, I was using IBM Spectrum.
Three months ago, I made the decision to change to Veeam Backup & Replication because IBM solutions are expensive.
IBM is very good software, but the problem is the cost. I would rate IBM a ten out of ten.
I was also using Acronis, but I wasn't sure of it. I did not have the experience with it.
How was the initial setup?
The initial setup is straightforward. It's easy.
It's not complex to replicate and back up the system.
What about the implementation team?
We used an integrator, reseller, and a public consultant, which was very expensive.
The experience was good but it was a bit of a process with a bit of a struggle.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
This is an expensive product, so reducing the cost would be an improvement. The difference between IBM and Veeam Backup & Replication is insignificant.
It is approximately $4,000 to $5,000 for the purchase of the product and I paid an additional $2,000 for the renewal.
What other advice do I have?
For large enterprise companies, I would suggest IBM, but for small companies, I would recommend Veeam Backup & Replication.
I would rate this solution an eight out of ten.
Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

Infrastructure Architect at Grupo Protege
Stable, scalable, and affordable
Pros and Cons
- "The solution is quite stable."
- "The initial setup was not straightforward at all."
What is our primary use case?
We do backups of our hyper-real environment and our branch office environment and we have servers running on the 2012 version.
How has it helped my organization?
Previously, we had to manage the tapes and backups locally. When we needed to restore data, we needed to ask for people in the branch offices to insert the tapes and manage everything manually. When we deployed this solution, we no longer had to contact people on-site, to make these actions happen.
What is most valuable?
The solution's most valuable aspect is its ability to make use of an appliance to use as a staging disk to allow us to make fast recoveries directly from the bridge. This helps us avoid using the communication links
What needs improvement?
The cyber recovery and cyber protections need to be improved within the solution. Right now, they are quite limited. They need to be more extensive and more robust. It would be good to have machine alerts within the technician service in order to be more accurate and go more deeply into the process of validation for the backup data.
We see some limitations in the way that data is analyzed and the market update for the archive is handled.
The initial setup was not straightforward at all.
For how long have I used the solution?
I've been using the solution for about two years at this point. It hasn't been too long.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
The solution is quite stable. We haven't had any issues with its reliability. There aren't bugs or glitches. It doesn't crash or freeze.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
We don't see any limitations when it comes to scalability. We haven't experienced any either. The scalability is quite good. If a company needs to expand it, it can do so.
We have about 5,000 users on the solution.
How are customer service and technical support?
We don't directly contact technical support. Our service provider might if there are issues. However, if there are any problems, we've noticed that they are resolved quickly, and therefore I can assume technical support is pretty good. We don't have any complaints.
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
We previously used HP's Data Protector. We switched solutions when we switched service providers.
How was the initial setup?
The initial setup was not straightforward or easy. It was difficult and complex. We experienced some issues early on and needed to make some updates and figure out some workarounds to put it into production.
The deployment took five or six months to put everything into action. It was a long process.
I'm not sure exactly how many people are needed for maintenance.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
The contract we have for this solution is affordable. It's not too expensive. That said, I don't know the exact pricing. I don't handle billing or licensing at my organization.
Which other solutions did I evaluate?
We evaluated other service providers, not other backup solutions. Other service providers came with HP Data Protector, NetBackup, and Commvault as solutions they offered.
I'd say that Commvault is a more comprehensive solution if I were to compare it directly to Veeam.
What other advice do I have?
A few months ago, about two months, I was in a meeting and I asked my service provider which version we were using. They said that we were using the latest version. I don't know if it's still the latest version, however, if it not the latest, it's almost the latest.
We access our backup through a service provider.
We're in the process of looking for more protection services to better guard against attacks.
I'd advise those considering the solution to look carefully at the licensing. In the beginning, we experienced some troubles with the licensing models that were acquired by service provider. That caused some limitations. It was a major concern for us at first and might be a major concern for others.
In general, I would recommend the solution. I'd rate it at an eight out of ten.

HR Manager at a manufacturing company with 51-200 employees
Fast restore performance, priced well, and helps us to recover from accidental changes
Pros and Cons
- "The most valuable feature is that I can back up the whole machine and then restore it relatively fast."
- "When you want to restore files, you first need to restore the machine, and then you have to mount it, and then restore the files."
What is our primary use case?
We are using Veeam for SQL and file server backups.
How has it helped my organization?
This product helps because when something has changed that we didn't know about or didn't want to be modified, and we find out about it the following day, we can go back to exactly where we were and when it worked perfectly.
What is most valuable?
The most valuable feature is that I can back up the whole machine and then restore it relatively fast. The restore can be done in a few minutes.
What needs improvement?
When you want to restore files, you first need to restore the machine, and then you have to mount it, and then restore the files. I wish it were like Symantec, where I can search for a file and it will give me the latest version, no matter where it is. It could be on tape or on disk, and it still restores the latest version.
For how long have I used the solution?
We have been using Veeam Backup & Replication for between five and six years.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
Veeam has 100% stability and I have had no problems with it.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
I have not needed to rely on scalability, although it can scale relatively easily. It is only a matter of licensing. The applicability to different sizes of organizations depends on the use cases.
How are customer service and technical support?
I haven't had any issues with technical support. I'm using a third-party for support and it is working well. In addition, Veeam checks in with me once a year to ask how things are and see if there is anything that needs to be improved.
How was the initial setup?
The initial setup was very straightforward.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
The price of this product is very good. In fact, this is why we acquired it in the first place. It was relatively cheap and also good.
What other advice do I have?
I do not use the entire package with all of the features. However, there is nothing I need that isn't in the product. My advice for anybody who is considering Veeam is that for a small or medium-sized business, it is enough. However, for a larger organization, I would suggest Commvault.
I would rate this solution an eight out of ten.
Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

Reliable, easy to use, good support, and requires minimal maintenance
Pros and Cons
- "It's very easy to work with and it's very reliable."
- "I would like to see the Veeam cloud solution and Microsoft Office 365 included all in one platform."
What is our primary use case?
The primary use case of this solution is to back up all of our applications and all of our data.
What is most valuable?
It's very easy to work with and it's very reliable.
We haven't had any issues so far, and the backup and restore works very well.
What needs improvement?
I would like to see the Veeam cloud solution and Microsoft Office 365 included all in one platform.
For how long have I used the solution?
I have been working with Veeam Backup & Replication for five years.
We are working with the latest version.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
We use this solution daily. It's very stable. We have not had any issues.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
It's a scalable solution. We started out with a few issues, and after we purchased Office 365 it was easy to store and proceed with other backups.
This is a backup of the applications and data. We don't have any users who access it.
How are customer service and technical support?
We contacted technical support one time only. They were able to solve the issue.
They were good.
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
Previously, we used a few different solutions. Before Veeam, we were using a solution from HP, and Symantec.
We decided to go with Veeam because we had a few issues that were not able to be resolved in time.
How was the initial setup?
The initial setup was simple. When you compare it with other solutions it was simple.
This solution does not require a lot of maintenance. This component of the solution is very easy. We only need one person to maintain it.
What about the implementation team?
The implementation was completed within the company.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
This is not an expensive solution. It's on the cheaper side.
What other advice do I have?
I would recommend this product to others who are interested in using it.
I would rate this solution a nine out of ten.
Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

Senior Solution Architect at a comms service provider with 11-50 employees
Flexible on-premises and cloud solution but it could use more automation
Pros and Cons
- "In terms of most valuable features, we are mostly using the Cloud Connect feature. It is flexible because you can use it on-prem and on cloud."
- "In terms of what can be improved, I would say they could add automations for disaster migrations and for reverse replication. Overall, they need more automation."
What is our primary use case?
We implemented Veeam Backup & Replication on-prem and also on the cloud - we have both infrastructures. We use it internally to backup our internal servers and we have a cloud infrastructure where we use it to backup our customers' virtual machines for disaster solutions. We use it for disaster replication.
What is most valuable?
In terms of most valuable features, we are mostly using the Cloud Connect feature. It is flexible because you can use it on-prem and on cloud.
What needs improvement?
In terms of what can be improved, I would say they could add automations for disaster migrations and for reverse replications. Overall, they need more automation.
For how long have I used the solution?
I have been using Veeam Backup & Replication for six years.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
Veeam Backup & Replication is a stable product.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
Veeam Backup & Replication is scalable.
I don't know our user count, but we have about 8,000 virtual machines.
We recently added this product to the environment so we will continue to use it.
How are customer service and technical support?
The Veeam technical support is not very good. We can solve problems one by one because there are some sales teams and technical teams in Turkey. We can contact them and solve the problems with them. But it must be faster and they must have more technical knowledge.
How was the initial setup?
Veeam is very easy to install. We can install it and begin use in one hour.
What about the implementation team?
We implemented it ourselves with our three person backup team made up of three admins.
What other advice do I have?
I would mostly recommend this product because it's easy to use and it is easy to install. On a scale of one to ten, I would give Veeam Backup & Replication a seven.

Database Administrator / Database Architect at a manufacturing company with 501-1,000 employees
Stable and scalable with all the benefits of a virtual machine
Pros and Cons
- "The solution offers the normal benefits of a virtual machine versus a physical, actual machine. It doesn't take up space, for example."
- "It would be ideal if they could capture everything and then timestamp and back up everything up to that timestamp."
What is our primary use case?
I'm not doing anything with the the solution right now. I'm just using them for database purposes. We store databases there and applications.
How has it helped my organization?
The solution saves our organization some money as we don't need to store to a physical machine.
What is most valuable?
The solution gives me everything which is no physical machine gives, however, it is much easier to relocate to do anything with it.
The solution offers the normal benefits of a virtual machine versus a physical, actual machine. It doesn't take up space, for example.
What needs improvement?
Sometimes, when we shut it down, it doesn't properly shut down for us.
If we need to back it up, would be even better if we could do a backup when the files are open and the applications are working. If the solution itself had that capability to backup everything consistently, across all the files, across the system just as we are using the product, then it would have huge benefits, even more than it has today. It would mean that I would not need to purchase any other party third-party products to ensure that my application or my database will work after I back it up and start it up.
It would be ideal if they could capture everything and then timestamp and back up everything up to that timestamp. Then I would not need other products and I could just use this, which would be better.
For how long have I used the solution?
I'm currently using the solution. I've been using it over the past 12 months at least.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
The stability seems to be pretty good. I haven't had issues with bugs or glitches. It doesn't crash or freeze. It seems to be reliable.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
I'm not sure if we have plans to increase usage. I don't make that decision in the organization.
How are customer service and technical support?
I have a systems admin who maybe has reached out to technical support in the past. I have not, personally. I find my systems admin quite knowledgeable. When I asked him something, he knows what to do right away. I'm not sure how many cases he's faced, where he did not know the answer and then had to go somewhere to get it.
Therefore, I can't really speak to any knowledge of technical support. I don't know how they are, to be honest.
How was the initial setup?
I don't really handle the installation process. I can't speak to how difficult or easy the implementation process is.
What other advice do I have?
Overall, I would rate the solution at a nine out of ten.

We use this product for backing up on-premises virtual servers. We have virtual servers at our two sites that we back up, and we also replicate them between each other.
What is most valuable?
Compared to other products, Veeam has a lot of features for the price.
What needs improvement?
I would like to see better features for exporting to cloud-based repositories.
Having reduced pricing for smaller businesses would be helpful.
For how long have I used the solution?
We have been using Veeam Backup & Replication for approximately 10 years.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
This product is very stable.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

How was the initial setup?
I find the installation fairly easy, although I've been working with it for quite a while.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
This product is not cheap, but it's well worth the cost.
What other advice do I have?
I am looking forward to a new feature that is coming out in version 11 that allows you to lock your backups in a Linux backup repository. This will stop ransomware from destroying your backups.

We have been using Veeam Backup & Replication for two weeks.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
This is a stable product and we haven't had any problems.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
Our installation is not very large, so scaling is no issue.
We have seven users who are operators.
How are customer service and technical support?
We have not needed to contact support.
How was the initial setup?
The initial setup was straightforward and the deployment was quite quick.
What about the implementation team?
We did the implementation ourselves.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
Our licensing fees are paid yearly and the cost is about $12,000 Swiss Francs ($17,400 USD).
Which other solutions did I evaluate?
We did evaluate other options before adopting Veeam.
What other advice do I have?

Pros and Cons
- "The most valuable feature is the ability to restore the VMs into a test environment."
- "Some of the best practice documentation could be improved."
What is our primary use case?
We use Veeam for the backup and recovery of our production environment.
What is most valuable?
The most valuable feature is the ability to restore the VMs into a test environment.
What needs improvement?
Some of the best practice documentation could be improved.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
The stability is perfect and we have not had any problems with it.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
With respect to how much we use this solution, we don't expect to increase it. Rather, we're just going to keep our usage the same that we have.

How was the initial setup?
The initial setup is pretty straightforward.
What about the implementation team?
We had an integrator do most of the implementation.

Data Protection Specialist at Tech Mahindra Limited
A stable solution that makes it easy to backup and replicate many central sites and remote sites
Pros and Cons
- "If you have a lot of central sites and remote sites, you can easily set up the replication and make it easier."
- "The reporting feature can be improved."
What is our primary use case?
We use Veeam Backup and Replication for image backups.
What is most valuable?
We use Veeam Explorer for Exchange for single item restores and to restore mailboxes, which is good. With SQL Explorer, you can access SQL, and it's got some good tools that are integrated into the product.
The Veeam physical backups for Windows is good, but I'm not sure about other operating systems. If you have a lot of central sites and remote sites, you can easily set up the replication and make it easier.
What needs improvement?
Veeam Backup and Replication is a very good product, but there's room for improvement. For example, if you have to set up multiple servers, there's a lot of work to configure and set up projects. But once it's set up, it's very easy to manage. I think you have to resize it in the data center, and then it's pretty simple. We can integrate the storage, and you can use data resizing and do a lot more.
The reporting feature can also be improved. Version 10 has come up with a better report, but version 9.4 isn't so good. I mean, it doesn't show whether we can allow customization of reports and more.
For how long have I used the solution?
I have used Veeam Backup and Replication for one year.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
Veeam Backup and Replication is very stable. I haven't faced any problems with it so far.
How are customer service and technical support?
Their technical support is excellent. Whenever I have contacted Veeam support, they were very good, very helpful, and supportive. Their website is a very good support site as well.
How was the initial setup?
The initial setup is straightforward, and it took us about an hour to deploy.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
I'm told that Veeam Backup and Replication is a cost-effective solution, and it's very competitive in terms of pricing. It's cheaper, and it's going to be up ahead of the competitors in terms of pricing by sockets. Compared to other vendors, they're much cheaper, and Veeam is almost everywhere now.
What other advice do I have?
Veeam is very good.
On a scale from one to ten, I would give Veeam Backup and Replication an eight.
Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

Easy to use, stable, and good price, but its integration with third-party solutions can be better
Pros and Cons
- "I am not a direct user of this product, but my technical guys tell me that they like the product, and it is easy to use. We don't have any issues with it."
- "It would be nice if it could be integrated with third-party solutions like ours. It has been supporting just Windows and virtual machines."
What is our primary use case?
We develop our own replication solutions for the IBM i platform. Our product is called Maxava. We have 500 customers using that for disaster recovery, data replication. We use Veeam in-house for our Windows replication.
What is most valuable?
I am not a direct user of this product, but my technical guys tell me that they like the product, and it is easy to use. We don't have any issues with it.
What needs improvement?
It would be nice if it could be integrated with third-party solutions like ours. It has been supporting just Windows and virtual machines.
For how long have I used the solution?
I have been using this solution for about five years.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
It is stable. I am not aware of any issues.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
It is scalable. We're just using it in-house. We have maybe 20 to 23 users that we support on it.
How are customer service and technical support?
Our guys have probably talked to support from time to time, but I haven't seen any issues raised about it or anything like that. So, I presume it's all pretty good.
How was the initial setup?
It was pretty easy and straightforward.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
Its pricing is really good.
What other advice do I have?
I would recommend this solution. From my point of view, I haven't had any issues with it.
I would rate Veeam Backup & Replication a seven out of ten.

High scalability, powerful stability, and best monitoring and performance
Pros and Cons
- "Its stability and scalability were the main reasons for going for this solution. It is highly scalable, and its stability is also powerful. It has a friendly interface, and its monitoring and performance are the best in the market."
- "The orchestration feature can be improved. They can improve the virtual machine orchestration to make it similar to VMware. They can also provide an option to automate the backup and recovery and schedule a backup."
What is our primary use case?
We use this solution for deploying machine backup and for recovery from a disaster recovery site. We also use it for file backup. For the database backup, we use the software embedded in the SQL Server.
What is most valuable?
Its stability and scalability were the main reasons for going for this solution. It is highly scalable, and its stability is also powerful.
It has a friendly interface, and its monitoring and performance are the best in the market.
What needs improvement?
The orchestration feature can be improved. They can improve the virtual machine orchestration to make it similar to VMware. They can also provide an option to automate the backup and recovery and schedule a backup.
For how long have I used the solution?
I have been using this solution for three years.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
It is very stable. This is the main reason why we chose Veeam for this client and not VMware.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
It is very scalable. This is another reason why we chose Veeam for backup and recovery for this client. It allows us to scale to many other projects. This project is very big. It involves more than 70 virtual machines in the production environment, and it is possible to scale to more than 100 virtual machines.
How are customer service and technical support?
We didn't face any problems with this solution.
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
In the past, we also used VMware orchestration for VMware backup and recovery. Veeam is more stable and scalable, and its price is more attractive than VMware.
How was the initial setup?
It was easy for our deployment engineers. The deployment took a maximum of one week. In my company, probably seven engineers are in charge of this. My company has been a large integrator in Romania, and we have expertise in many areas of IT. We have five to seven people for each subdomain in IT.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
Its price is reasonable for a big company or a big client. It is not too much. It is cheaper than VMware.
Which other solutions did I evaluate?
We tested VMware and Veeam solutions, and we chose Veeam for this project because our client is a public institution and required a very stable solution. Veeam is more stable than VMware, and our client preferred Veeam.
What other advice do I have?
I would rate Veeam Backup & Replication a nine out of ten. There are some features that they need to improve in Veeam, but it is perfect for most of the companies in Romania.
Which deployment model are you using for this solution?
On-premises

Rock solid, great scalability, and great support
Pros and Cons
- "It is a rock-solid backup solution. That's all, and that's what we were asking for."
- "They fixed everything that I was hoping for. It is pretty good. There were a few things in 9.x that I was wishing for, and they came true in version 10. We were looking for retention without having to make a copy job. We're getting ready to migrate m365 to the cloud. I haven't dived into it to make sure, but I wish the m365 backup would integrate into the current console so that we don't have to use two different consoles."
What is our primary use case?
Our use case is about a hundred VMR servers and maybe a handful of agents.
How has it helped my organization?
It has improved our organization. I don't have to spend all day troubleshooting backups, so it has freed up a lot of time.
What is most valuable?
It is a rock-solid backup solution. That's all, and that's what we were asking for.
What needs improvement?
They fixed everything that I was hoping for. It is pretty good. There were a few things in 9.x that I was wishing for, and they came true in version 10. We were looking for retention without having to make a copy job.
We're getting ready to migrate m365 to the cloud. I haven't dived into it to make sure, but I wish the m365 backup would integrate into the current console so that we don't have to use two different consoles.
For how long have I used the solution?
I have been using this solution for maybe two years. I use it daily.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
It is rock solid. We didn't have any issues.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
Its scalability is great. They have scale-out backup repositories where you can add more extents, so it'll grow with you. You just buy more space or another server and then add it into the scale-out backup repository.
Primarily, there are six users, and I'm the primary one. We're all in the operation center.
How are customer service and technical support?
Their technical support is great. They're quick, very knowledgeable, and very proficient. I would give them a ten out of ten.
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
We used Unitrends before this, and it was constant babysitting. It worked great for that time period, but once we migrated to VMware, we decided to try one of the industry standards. It has really paid off for us. Unitrends was quite a bit more expensive.
How was the initial setup?
Now that I understand it, it would probably be simple, but initially, it was a kind of interesting concept. It was a little bit complex, and we had a vendor who configured it for us, but we battled it until we got it all configured the way we wanted. The biggest issue was the space for making the backups. We didn't realize how much space we would use.
What other advice do I have?
Don't waste your time. Go ahead and do it.
I would rate Veeam Backup & Replication a ten out of ten.
Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

Senior Consultant at IOEC
Has simplified administration, simple installation, and a simple interface
Pros and Cons
- "The initial setup for a simple environment is very easy. We just do next, next, next, next for the installation. It can be complicated in a complicated environment. It can be simple for a simple environment. I enjoy installing it. It has a lot of features."
- "I have a problem with the VM. When we started doing a backup, it takes a snapshot for our virtual machines, but when we try it two or three times, in some cases, our virtual machines go to a consolidated state. I don't know why this problem happens. But I still think Veeam is a top-ranking solution."
What is our primary use case?
In most cases, we use Veeam Backup Replication for backup and recovery. In some literal cases, we use it for replication and statics.
What needs improvement?
I have a problem with the VM. When we started doing a backup, it takes a snapshot for our virtual machines, but when we try it two or three times, in some cases, our virtual machines go to a consolidated state. I don't know why this problem happens. But I still think Veeam is a top-ranking solution.
I don't know why this VM problem happens. Sometimes, I think it's because of our environments and performance. I have a little bit of a performance problem when VMs back up. I don't think it's optimized in our environment because of that.
It doesn't have any reporting in it. The reporting and GUI interface can be improved.
For how long have I used the solution?
I have been using Veeam for three to four years.
How are customer service and technical support?
We don't have support in my country because of sanctions.
How was the initial setup?
The initial setup for a simple environment is very easy. We just do next, next, next, next for the installation. It can be complicated in a complicated environment. It can be simple for a simple environment. I enjoy installing it. It has a lot of features.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
It's very expensive.
What other advice do I have?
It's important that the IT staff had training for VMs. There are many webinars and training courses. My staff doesn't think there is much of a need for training. They just do next, next, next.
I would rate Veeam Backup Replication an eight out of ten. It's the best. It has simplified administration, simple installation, and a simple interface.
I would recommend Veeam Backup Replication. It's good for our virtualization environments.

Enterprise Chief Infrastructure Hosting & Cloud Architect with 5,001-10,000 employees
Good support, easy to set up, stable, and the on-premises version is doing a good job
Pros and Cons
- "They provide good technical support and we are satisfied with the support we have received."
- "The Cloud version is not ready, they need maturity and ease of deployment in terms of management."
What is our primary use case?
We are using this solution to back up all of the critical VMs and the critical server. It's applied on the server.
What is most valuable?
It's doing a good job.
What needs improvement?
Azure Cloud version support requires improvement. The on-premises is doing well.
I don't think that it is really ready.
Ideally, the cloud version and the on-premises version can be managed through the same interface, but that is not the case with their cloud-native implementation. The cloud-native solution is completely disconnected from the on-premise solution. This is an area that needs to improve.
When we started to talk to them about the cloud, we were under the impression that it's was going to be the same console, and everything would be the same, but that is not the case.
The cloud offering as a SaaS and the integration with the cloud providers. We work with Azure, and I think they need better integration with Azure.
Also, the consolidation between the on-premises solution and those going to the cloud should have the same user experience. That will allow them to manage two environments in the same place. That would be a very good feature to offer, and it would be helpful.
If they could offer that feature it would probably put them ahead of their competitors.
The Cloud version is not ready, they need maturity and ease of deployment in terms of management.
For how long have I used the solution?
We have been using Veeam Backup & Replication in our organization for approximately six years.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
It is very stable.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
It's scalable.
We have a maximum of five users who system administrators. They are managing this solution and operating it.
How are customer service and technical support?
They provide good technical support and we are satisfied with the support we have received.
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
I am not aware of what the organization had in place before I arrive. Veeam Backup & Replication was already in place before I arrived.
How was the initial setup?
The initial setup was straightforward.
I was not a part of the on-premises deployment, so I am not sure how long it took. I don't have an answer for that.
We don't require any staff to maintain this solution.
What about the implementation team?
We had the help of a reseller and the experience was good.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
I don't know what the costs are for sure, but I think that it's on a yearly basis.
I don't think there are any costs in addition to the standard licensing fee.
What other advice do I have?
In the near future, we will deploy the cloud version.
I would rate the Veeam Backup Replication on-premises version a ten out of ten, and for the Cloud version specifically with Azure, I would rate them a four out of ten.
I don't know how it performs with other Cloud providers.
Which deployment model are you using for this solution?
On-premises

Support Team at a non-tech company with 10,001+ employees
Easy backups, easy to set up, and very stable
Pros and Cons
- "It is way easier to take backup with Veeam Backup & Replication than the regular ones."
- "They can improve the features and Veeam Enterprise Manager. The interface and features are kind of limited. It would be good if they can provide more features and a better interface. For example, if I want to provide certain users with the privilege to back up and restore and do day-to-day tasks, I cannot do it in the current version. It is like you either give everything to everyone or no user can have access to anything. In version 9, a lot of features were missing, and it wasn't clear. Version 10 is easier from the communication perspective, and the disk backup option is very clear."

Technical Pre-Sales Consultant at a tech services company with 1,001-5,000 employees
Support provides solutions immediately
Pros and Cons
- "I think that the scalability is very good. We can't compare it."
- "I like the Acronis backup solutions on the block-based part of backups. That is a functionality that Veeam does not provide."
What needs improvement?
I like the Acronis backup solutions on the block-based part of backups. That is a functionality that Veeam does not provide.
Otherwise, I don't see any additional improvements in Veeam because they are very good. It integrates very well with Microsoft applications. Veeam is very user friendly and you don't need to have certifications to work on it.
For how long have I used the solution?
I have been working with Veeam Backup and Replication for the past four years.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
I think that the scalability is very good. We can't compare it. The only problem that users may face with Veeam, is if people do not size it correctly, which can cause performance issues.
Cloud backup on AWS Azure is also fantastic. It backs up applications, such as Oracle SAP, as well.
How are customer service and technical support?
The technical support is very good. They provide solutions immediately and they tell the customer exactly what is wrong.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
If you tell Veeam that you're competing with, for example, NetBackup or Backup Exec, or Dell or Micro Focus then they may lower the price. They are very competitive.
The price of Micro Focus will beat Veeam, but then you're missing one or two functionalities which is good to have for disaster recovery.
What other advice do I have?
I would rate Veeam Backup a 10 out of 10.

Powerful storage integration, good support, and good stability
Pros and Cons
- "It is a powerful software for communicating with the storage and for redundancy."
- "Its price is higher than other solutions and can be improved. They can also change the version of the software more often."
What is our primary use case?
We use it for backup and recovery.

What needs improvement?
Its price is higher than other solutions and can be improved. They can also change the version of the software more often.
For how long have I used the solution?
I have been using this solution for five years.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
It has very good stability. It doesn't have any glitches, and it is very stable so far.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
It is very scalable. You need more licensing to scale it.
We have five users of this solution in our company.
How are customer service and technical support?
I would rate them a ten out of ten.
How was the initial setup?
The initial setup was easy. The deployment took two and a half hours.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
It is more expensive than other solutions.
What other advice do I have?
Feature-wise, it is a good solution. You can install the free version of this solution to try it out. This free version is valid for 13 days.
I would rate Veeam Backup & Replication an eight out of ten.

User-friendly and easy to integrate
Pros and Cons
- "I can't think of any improvements yet for Veeam because they are very good. It integrates very well with Microsoft applications. It is very easy to integrate. Micro Focus can also integrate but it's more complex. You have to know the product very well to be able to integrate. While Veeam, it's very user-friendly. You don't need to have certifications or anything to work on Veeam."
- "I like the Acronis backup solutions on the block-based part of backups or snapshots. That's a nice functionality that Veeam doesn't have."
What is most valuable?
Veeam Backup does not interfere with your environment. It's got those facilities, which are very good.
Acronis has been a long time player on the images and in block-based backups. I can't think of any improvements yet for Veeam because they are very good. It integrates very well with Microsoft applications. It is very easy to integrate. Micro Focus can also integrate but it's more complex. You have to know the product very well to be able to integrate. While Veeam, it's very user-friendly. You don't need to have certifications or anything to work on Veeam.
What needs improvement?
I like the Acronis backup solutions on the block-based part of backups or snapshots. That's a nice functionality that Veeam doesn't have.
For how long have I used the solution?
I have been working with Veeam Backup Replication for four years.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
Scalability is very good. The only problem that might occur with Veeam is if people do not size it correctly, they can get performance issues. If you don't do the right thing, you always have those types of problems anyway.
Backing up to the cloud, AWS or Azure is fantastic. It's really good. It also backs up applications as well like Oracle, SAP, and so forth. Veeam is a good backup solution.
How are customer service and technical support?
The technical support is excellent. If you're on the right support level, they provide a solution immediately. They tell the customer exactly what is wrong. Compared to Micro Focus Data Protector, they've got good engineers to help you, but I think Veeam is much quicker and more helpful in resolving a problem.
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
If I had to choose visualization between Micro Focus Data Protector and Veeam, I would choose Veeam. It's a much better product. The functionalities for the end-user are much easier. It is a good product for an enterprise, but it's not that user-friendly like Veeam is. The functionalities that Veeam offers are fantastic. It's a very good product.
In terms of virtualization, I would recommend Veeam over Data Protector. Definitely. Even for hybrid, I would still recommend Veeam. Although, the Data Protector hybrid environment is also not bad. But the problem is the complexity.
Micro Focus is developing the virtualization side. You can't compare it with Veeam. The storage and backing up the environment are much easier on Veeam than Data Protector. Veeam is much more ahead at the moment.
Data Protector is not user-friendly. It's more complex. You need to know the product very well to be able to do backups or restores.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
The price is reasonable compared to NetBackup, Backup Exec, Dell, Micro Focus, or Acronis, then Veeam is lower in price.
Micro Focus's pricing is not too bad either because they changed the licensing model.
What other advice do I have?
I would rate Veeam Backup Replication a ten out of ten.
In the next release, I would like for them to have block-based backups as well. But I don't know if they will do that because they've got all the functionalities to restore a system and it's working. If they would put it in, that would be fantastic, it will maybe even improve the performance when backing up.
I would rate Acronis an eight out of ten. They're missing a lot and are still not very user-friendly.

Good integration with storage systems and great support
Pros and Cons
- "The integration with some storage systems like HP or Nutanix and great support are the most valuable features. You get productivity support. You get a response within one hour, even in the evening or night. The functionality of the whole software is good."
- "The whole graphical user interface is very easy, but the details are hidden deeply and aren't easily visible. You cannot easily see the details and explore or choose the settings. We should be able to easily explore various settings and options. If you can see more details while choosing the settings or setting it up, it helps in getting the software running easily. For example, in Microsoft Office, you can see much more in the interface than in Veeam Backup & Replication. It is a complex software. It is not easy to use, and you must know what to do and where to do. The user manual has more than a thousand pages. They should give some direct information through the software and improve the software. On their website, they can have some videos and step-by-step information to make us come straight to our goals."
What is our primary use case?
We are using it for taking backup from virtual machines, quick migration from one host to another, and instant file restore from the exchange or file server. The most important use is to do the daily backup and have business continuity at the highest level.
What is most valuable?
The integration with some storage systems like HP or Nutanix and great support are the most valuable features. You get productivity support. You get a response within one hour, even in the evening or night. The functionality of the whole software is good.

For how long have I used the solution?
I have been using this solution for six years.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
It is stable, and that's the reason for using this software for about six years.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
It is scalable. We have only two users, and they are administrators.
How are customer service and technical support?
Their technical support is great. You get a response within one hour, even in the evening or night.
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
I have used Acronis.
How was the initial setup?
The installation was straightforward. It was not so difficult. It was done in hours, but it depends on the depth of your installation, number of machines, and what you consider as the installation.
What about the implementation team?
I did it myself because I am a consultant as well as an integrator.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
Its software solution has a fee.
What other advice do I have?
I would recommend this solution. I have a good experience with this. I plan to keep using this product, but I am making comparisons with another solution, which provides better and higher performance when you have some synchronizing job for business continuity.
I would rate Veeam Backup & Replication a nine out of ten.

Easy to use, and very stable but needs the automatically check for backups
Pros and Cons
- "The product is very simple in its design. We don't need it to perform complicated tasks."
- "It needs to offer an automatic check for backups."
What is our primary use case?
We primarily use it for backup and replication.
What is most valuable?
It's a very easy solution to use. It's easy for IT teams to manage, however, you don't need any special skills to really wrap your head around the product.
The product is very simple in its design. We don't need it to perform complicated tasks.
We work with the standard version, which is free.
What needs improvement?
It would be helpful if there was something that could assist you in managing the database more effectively.
It needs to offer an automatic check for backups.
For how long have I used the solution?
I've been using the solution for three years.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
The solution is very stable. We don't have any issues with its reliability. It's bug and glitch-free for the most part. It doesn't crash or freeze.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
We've never really tested the scalability of the product. It's my understanding that you can extend service to ten or maybe to 20 machines. It's not complicated to do that. However, I can't speak to its full potential as it relates to scalability.
We only have four people dealing with the product directly in our company.
How are customer service and technical support?
Technical support is okay. We're satisfied with the level of service we're provided.
How was the initial setup?
The initial implementation is not complex in any way. It's very straightforward.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
While we work with the standard version of the solution, if you want to upgrade, the pricing is too high. They could work to make it more affordable for the Polish market. It's too high for most companies to afford. If it was more affordable, it could be more accessible.
What other advice do I have?
We're just a customer. We don't have a business relationship with Veeam.
We're using the standard version of the solution.
While I'd advise others to look at other companies to compare, I do recommend Veeam. It's my understanding that 60% of IT companies use Veeam. It's very popular.
Overall, I'd rate the solution six out of ten if I were to compare it to other versions of Veeam products. It's an okay solution. If it had an automatic check for backups, I'd rate it much higher.

Automatically adapts to your environment, offers one-click restore, and we are pleased with the support
Pros and Cons
- "The most valuable feature is adaptability, where it automatically adapts to the environment that it's being installed on."
- "They need full cloud integration such that an on-premises backup can be offloaded to the cloud for storage."
What is our primary use case?
The main use case is performing a backup of a virtualized environment.
What is most valuable?
The most valuable feature is adaptability, where it automatically adapts to the environment that it's being installed on. It can auto-configure backup transport, whether it be a direct-attach or network-based.
It has one-click restores and instant recovery, which is important because if a product doesn't have a good restore and recovery capability, then the backup is pretty much useless.
What needs improvement?
They need full cloud integration such that an on-premises backup can be offloaded to the cloud for storage. It is my understanding that they are focusing on solidifying that now. Everybody wants to be able to integrate with the cloud.
For how long have I used the solution?
I have been using the Veeam Backup & Replication solution for 12 years.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
Around the first quarter of this year, they rolled out release 10. The last stable version was 9.5 Update 4, and since the release of version 10, they just rolled out the first update, which is 10 Alpha.
Version 10a has a lot of fixes. For the most part, it's a very fluent software, and very stable. However, some of the new features, when they're trying to roll them out, they seem to have to do the updates just to stabilize those.
Over the years they've had some minor bugs, but nothing that stands out in the crowd compared to anything else because everybody else has the same issues.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
This is a scalable product.
How are customer service and technical support?
I've been very, very pleased with the Veeam software tech support. When you call in, you actually get a live person and they are typically able to assist you or direct you to second-tier support if it's above their typical area of expertise.
How was the initial setup?
The complexity of the initial setup depends on the environment and whether it is an all-in-one or distributed. For an all-in-one situation, it can be very straightforward. You just install it and press next, next, next. You will get everything you need and a fully functional product.
In a distributed setup, you have a couple of components that are external to the server that you're loading the main software on. This is a database server and reporting server, as well as an enterprise managing component. With these additional components, you have just a little bit more configuration. They're not that complex and I've actually done some other backups in the past that were more complex.
Overall, it is pretty straightforward.
What about the implementation team?
In the company that I work for, we have a managed services group. So, our backup and engineering team for managing other environments are also are skilled at doing Veeam.
We have a lot of customers that use Veeam, and I'm the installer implementer. I implement these solutions and do upgrades to them. There are a couple of us who are field engineers, and either of us can maintain and deploy updates.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
My understanding is that it is a fairly small price point. They have two different models, where one is based on the sockets that you're protecting, and the other is based on instances, or servers. You can choose whichever model works best for you.
What other advice do I have?
I think that this is a good product across any environment. I've installed it for schools, in the financial industry, for lawyers, and places that vary in size from small to large. I've never had any issues and I recommend it.
I know that there are always new features being released but at this point, there is nothing to say that I need anything more. That said, there is always room for improvement.
I would rate this solution a nine out of ten.

A well-organized interface that is simple to use and can verify backup integrity
Pros and Cons
- "The most valuable feature is the ability to verify that backups are valid."
- "We would like to see support for some additional storage systems."
What is our primary use case?
We use and promote Veeam for protecting server farms. We also work with system integrators, providing them with this solution and helping them to size deals.
How has it helped my organization?
Provided much more, best to say, time, and less worry about backup. It automated backup to the point of almost no involvement needed and our backups can be checked, tested and verified at any time in accordance with our policies.
What is most valuable?
Veeam is much more flexible than other products, such as Commvault.
The interface is well-arranged and it is simple to use.
This solution is very easy for us and our partners to deploy.
The most valuable feature is the ability to verify that backups are valid.
What needs improvement?
We would like to see support for some additional storage systems. They do have a range available but more should be available.
The cost of this solution could be reduced.
For how long have I used the solution?
I have been working with Veeam Backup and Replication for two years.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
I am extremely satisfied with stability. You can make sure that every backup is 100% recoverable, which is a feature that I and my team are very grateful for. It is something that is not available in most solutions, as far as I have seen.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
Veeam is easily scalable. I had a couple of cases where I had to scale from small to medium to enterprise-level organizations. There were thousands of nodes and it was easy to do. It took between a couple of hours and a day or two, depending on the size of the deployment.
How are customer service and technical support?
The technical support is good, although there are very few complaints. Issues are normally resolved within 24 to 72 hours.
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
I have used similar solutions by vendors such as Commvault.
Veeam is much more flexible and easier to use. With Commvault, you need an additional technician to launch or deploy anything. It requires a lot of time just to set it up. Also, Commvault is more expensive.
How was the initial setup?
The initial setup is simple and straightforward without the need for more complex preparations.
What about the implementation team?
In-house and vendor team - expertise was on a level and did not require extensive amounts of time.
What was our ROI?
We estimate our ROI within 1,9 - 2,3 years.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
Veeam is more reasonably priced than some competing products.
Which other solutions did I evaluate?
Each solution has its own points that are good but in cost-optimization, Veeam is a good price and it is very easy to deploy for both us and our partners.
What other advice do I have?
My advice for anybody who is implementing this solution is to make sure that the sizing is correct. Having good or perfect sizing is the best thing that somebody can do for their company, and, if possible, to put more funds into analytics reporting so that they can provide intelligent sizing in advance. In fact, the biggest lesson that I have learned from using this solution is that you never want to have the wrong sizing.
Overall, I am quite satisfied with this product.
I would rate this solution a nine out of ten.
Which deployment model are you using for this solution?
On-premises

Reduced our overall backup windows while reducing our dedicated backup infrastructure
Pros and Cons
- "Before Veeam, we had backup infrastructure sprawl. Veeam was able to reduce our overall backup windows while reducing our dedicated backup infrastructure."
- "Vendor integration for many of the enterprise features have allowed for us to have greater performance from our storage vendors further improving on our commitments to protect our clients' data."
- "Multithreading of health check process: This can take too much time to process on large jobs and/or large VMs."
- "Additional executive summary reports for the entire infrastructure would be a nice to have."
- "One challenge that we have encountered was on the long-term retention of data. Be sure to look into a dedicated deduplication appliance."
What is our primary use case?
Primary backup and long-term retention to protect our client data across our datacenters. Allows for incremental RPOs for VM and file-level recovery across multiple datacenters to our IT staff of more than 200 technicians. Enable fast restores and long term archival.
How has it helped my organization?
As our datacenters continue to grow, we had a challenge of reducing backup windows while being able to scale our total protected VMs. Before Veeam, we had backup infrastructure sprawl. Veeam was able to reduce our overall backup windows while reducing our dedicated backup infrastructure.
What is most valuable?
Granular permissions through Veeam Enterprise Manager have allowed for us to pass control down to our support staff instead of having it with senior datacenter resources.
Vendor integration for many of the enterprise features have allowed for us to have greater performance from our storage vendors further improving on our commitments to protect our clients' data.
What needs improvement?
Multithreading of health check process: This can take too much time to process on large jobs and/or large VMs. Better to have built-in deduplication for long-term retention. Storage efficiency is a weakness.
Additional executive summary reports for the entire infrastructure would be a nice to have.
For how long have I used the solution?
Three to five years.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
No, we have not experienced any stability issues.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
One challenge that we have encountered was on the long-term retention of data. Be sure to look into a dedicated deduplication appliance.
Also, know where the bottleneck is within your environment. If you are repurposing older equipment, it likely won't be up to the task. Storage performance is crucial to your backup times.
How are customer service and technical support?
Support has been great; no complaints.
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
We used PHD Virtual and what is now Unitrends UVB. Backup infrastructure was becoming a significant cost and scaling this solution meant more sprawl. Backup windows were increasing outside our comfort levels. At the time, we as acquired a company with additional datacenter services. Consolidating to one solution with a single interface was key. This, in turn, ensured that we had complete visibility of our backup environments across multiple datacenters.
Veeam helped us solve all of these areas of concern.
How was the initial setup?
It was pretty straightforward.
What about the implementation team?
In-house.
What was our ROI?
We have increased our scalability while being able to free up senior resources from recovery activities. I estimate our overall savings to about $20,000 per year.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
Plan your long-term backup strategy for growth and size the solution appropriately. Veeam has a number of setup options to choose from so make sure you understand them to make the right decision.
I would always suggest a multi-year agreement as this will allow for the best possible ROI of licensing.
Which other solutions did I evaluate?
What other advice do I have?
Since everyone's data is different, I would recommend a proof of concept project to understand how your data will be used within this solution. If you are intending to keep data for long-term retention, look at a dedicated deduplication appliance.
Which deployment model are you using for this solution?
Private Cloud
If public cloud, private cloud, or hybrid cloud, which cloud provider do you use?

Easy to use, good support, and the backup and restore features are very fast
Pros and Cons
- "The user interface is good and it is very easy to use."
- "I would like to have the capability of backing up a physical machine, as opposed to just a VM."
What is our primary use case?
We are a Veeam distributor and this is one of the solutions that we use, and also implement for our clients.
We have been using an on-premises deployment. It is installed in our VMs, and we have created a backup repository. It performs a daily incremental backup, and on the weekend it performs a full backup.
What is most valuable?
The restore option is very fast when restoring the VM, and it is the most valuable feature for me.
The user interface is good and it is very easy to use.
What needs improvement?
I would like to have the capability of backing up a physical machine, as opposed to just a VM.
For how long have I used the solution?
We have been using this solution for about one month.
How are customer service and technical support?
The support team is very friendly and they have helped us a lot. When we have needed any help or support, we have been able to reach them.
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
I used to use IBM Tivoli, and I find that the backup and restore operations are much faster with Veeam. The price of Veeam is much lower than the IBM solution. In Veeam we can use different kinds of storage, whereas, with IBM, we could only use a tape backup.
How was the initial setup?
Veeam is very easy to implement. The installation is easy, and you do not need a technical person to be present.
The deployment takes approximately two hours, including configuration.
What about the implementation team?
We had some assistance from our contact with Veeam in Dubai.
What other advice do I have?
We are happy that we are using Veeam.
I would rate this solution a ten out of ten.

After sale support should be the most important decision criteria for buying any solution. When it comes to disaster recovery usually people are mentally stressed and challenged in terms of RTOs, that causes a bit of a panic and may affect proper judgement of taking the right decisions at the time, having a simple solution comes handy in such situations. All I can say that according to my 2 year in depth experience of dealing with multiple Veeam products and before that having dealt with other backup vendor's I cannot stop but say the truth that Veeam has an amazing after sales support experience hence their NPS scores and their products are the easiest to use in their field so far. It really just works!

An excellent replication solution that's easy to set up, has good compression, and offers great stability
Pros and Cons
- "The whole replication aspect of the solution is excellent because it compresses the data so well."
- "It would be ideal if users could know that their data is backed up and have some security functionality where you can actually use the backup to spin up a new cluster and take it from there."
What is our primary use case?
We primarily use the solution for backup and replication.
What is most valuable?
The whole replication aspect of the solution is excellent because it compresses the data so well.
The way you get everything on one pane and see the whole environment because you're top is one of the reasons I really like Nutanix.
What needs improvement?
It would be ideal if users could know that their data is backed up and have some security functionality where you can actually use the backup to spin up a new cluster and take it from there.
If they can create a virtual environment with the traffic environment that would be beneficial.
For how long have I used the solution?
I've been using the solution for over a year.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
The solution is very stable once it's up and running.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
The solution is easily scalable if you have to move to a larger site.
How are customer service and technical support?
Nutanix technical support is excellent. You can't get better. You won't get better.
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
I used HP, the normal three-tier environment, and I wanted to go to upper coverage, so I switched.
How was the initial setup?
The initial setup is easy.
What about the implementation team?
We handled the implementation ourselves.
What other advice do I have?
We're using the on-premises deployment model.
The solution has some really nice features, but there is a lot of competition in the open-source market. I'd truthfully also prefer an open-source solution as well.
I would rate the solution nine out of ten.

Very flexible solution, but needs more integration with cloud service providers
Pros and Cons
- "Very flexible, all-in-one solution."
- "Needs better integration with cloud service providers."
What is our primary use case?
I handle managed backup services for one of my clients. I implement and manage these solutions.
How has it helped my organization?
The company has its own Veeam backup infrastructure to offer this service. It manages billing, etc.
What is most valuable?
The flexibility is the most valuable feature. It is an all-in-one solution for all kinds of infrastructure (physical, cloud, VM).
What needs improvement?
Provide more integration for cloud providers such as Google Cloud, Azure and AWS.
For how long have I used the solution?
One to three years.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
It is stable. The solution has great potential in the backup and replication domain.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
It is highly scalable, and I consider it to be the most important feature. It works on any kind of infrastructure including physical, Hyper-V, VMware, and cloud-based.
How are customer service and technical support?
The technical support is quite responsive, and very good. Tickets are within their SLA, and the response time is based on the priority of the ticket that you raise.
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
I have worked with all of the major products. These include Azure Backup, Microsoft Data Protection Manager (DPM), Commvault, Veritas Backup Exec, and others. The product you choose depends on the type of infrastructure and the type of backups you need to have. This one can be used for all kinds of infrastructure.
How was the initial setup?
The setup is straightforward with a very aesthetic graphical user interface. It can take anywhere from one day to a month to fully deploy, depending on the requirements.
What about the implementation team?
I handled the installation and implementation of this product myself.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
The pricing and licensing is quite competitive with other products. I would not says that it is much higher, neither is it low.
What other advice do I have?
I am certified with the Veeam Sales Professional (VMSP) accreditation. This qualifies people to demonstrate and sell the product.
I would rate this solution seven out of ten.

Integrates Between Server and Replication Station
Pros and Cons
- "We get a lot of features with Veeam and we are happy to use this solution. After shutdown, the servers here automatically turn off and Veeam is keeping up all this. It's tension free work."
- "We try to compare Veeam with other solutions because we are the operations. Then we can give the answers for improvement which is the specific additional system features that other solutions provide."
What is our primary use case?
Our primary use case with Veeam Backup & Replication is as the intermediate agent. Veeam integrates devices between the main server and the replication station.
We set this resolution between the main server and our replication machine. It is getting images from VMware. We serve up with Veeam and it responds to the daily load.
With Veeam Backup & Replication, replicated servers will be picked up again from the new location station machine. Now our table updates are available automatically.
We get a lot of features with Veeam and we are happy to use this solution. After shutdown, the servers here automatically turn off and Veeam is keeping up all this. It's tension free work.
How has it helped my organization?
Veeam Backup & Replication assists us to improve to good infrastructure.
- Veeam system makes a server image that is relative to our network requirements.
- We get strong back-up capability.
- We are announcing to users that our server will not shut down for a single second.
- Failover with Veeam is okay.
- We are trying to make NES Network Extronance and Network Express copy to replication server using Veeam.
- Using distribution file systems, we take backups from users and clients.
- We use copies struck to one server by Veeam and make it replication-to-replication.
- We use Veeam for replication-to-replication virtual machines.
With Veeam Backup & Replication, data is secure and strongly stored to replication machines. If we consider the IT systems and infrastructure, then Veeam is making us environmentally friendly.
We are not taking more human resources to take manual back-up systems. With Veeam, we are not taking manual copies to offline or online backup. This is not necessary.
Also, we are reducing the maintenance cost for hardware because of not deploying more than required for our infrastructure.
Veeam helps us on data confidentiality using a simple file transfer. The set of file systems in our data is open, but when we use Veeam, we just make an image, a compact file. Nobody can open it and no one can keep it.
The ransomware and other exploits cannot attack this file. Veeam optimizes our cost for recovering files and data. In this way, Veeam Backup & Replication is a help to our company.
What is most valuable?
We evaluated different options and we picked the most significant one, Veeam. The main features about the Veeam Backup & Replication suite I like are:
- If a Veeam image is copied to a replication machine, then Veeam automatically checks to see if ransomware attacked or not.
- Veeam will automatically check if a file is corrupt or not. If a file is corrupt, then it will not make a backup copy to the replication server. That means the corrupt file is not copied to replication.
- We have confidence that our replication image is good and not corrupted as VM machines.
These are the significant features and there are a lot of features with Veeam. You need to first check out the Veeam website.
What needs improvement?
As far as additional features, in the comparative market, a lot of solutions are now from VMware. Cisco has its own solution for replicating back-ups and administration.
We try to compare Veeam with other solutions because we are the operations. Then we can give the answers for improvement which is the specific additional system features that other solutions provide.
For how long have I used the solution?
One to three years.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
Personally, my experience with the stability of Veeam Backup & Replicate is very good. I tested and I uploaded it in virtualization in my private cloud, i.e. private infrastructure.
If we would like to use the networking system or any of the hardware-based VM systems, then it will likely be a larger investment. If you have only a little to invest in the application-based VM system, then it is okay. Veeam is a cost-effective solution
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
Scalability with Veeam Backup & Replicate is very good. On our team:
- They try to get the support of reference material for the software base.
- They already made a package using Veeam on a single machine license.
- If you having 50 VM machines, virtual machines, then you can take 10 packages.
- This requires a 1 to 10 heavy package license. Then you can increase your VMs repeatedly.
- If you would like to engage your infrastructure more than 50, more than 100, more than 1000, then you can enterprise license Veeam and have the machines in your infrastructure
My only concern about Veeam Backup & Replicate is that it could be more open.
How are customer service and technical support?
In previous times, we were getting technical support from the Veeam team directly from their Los Angeles office and Namibia. They had given us some numbers and contacts. They were giving us support and they introducing the new features or new deployments.
What I have seen with experience is that technical support is quite good. I am pleased with Veeam customer support operations. They are straightforward.
I got downloaded information from online and I tried that. Personally, then I got 90% accuracy for the administration that I tried. I had about a 90% success rate with online info-services.
After that, I spoke directly with Veeam customer support on a call to Los Angeles. They gave the support and it was very easy.
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
Before using Veeam Backup & Replication, we had not deployed any backup systems in the company.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
Actually, the most important criteria for us when considering a solution is service. When we are taking a decision regarding the hardware or software or any applications, then first we need to tell where and what the services they are giving us. Then we evaluate the service level element.
The main important criteria when selecting a vendor are then what are the features and services available in the devices or applications. This should be our main selection path to select any hardware devices or applications.
Because of our world, in the market, we can get low prices on devices or we could then see what is available. What I actually need is what I need to deploy, the features I need to be deploying in my architecture. That needs to be considered first in systems administration because the price can vary.
In my personal experience, these values and features should be the first standard for selecting a device or application.
Which other solutions did I evaluate?
We started thinking of the new systems. We surveyed from IT Central Station and several other portals that are available online. We got the reports and we did the contact with the vendors.
What other advice do I have?
For the Veeam Backup & Replication software, we care about the system dependency on software-based, not the hardware-based licenses. For actualization concepts and hyper-connection concepts, businesses can easily use Veeam replication and instances.
I would rate Veeam Backup & Replication a ten out of ten. The reason, first of all, is because Veeam provides what I need for my devices, my services, and service providers.
With Veeam Backup & Replicate, I'm getting the full service of what I need.
Disclosure: I am a real user, and this review is based on my own experience and opinions.
1. Seems that VEEAM is doing dedupe and compression PER JOB and NOT globally.
2. At TSM there feature of replicate node + protect stg, that give you the option to replicate the backup to a remote site and is NOT necessary for all backups, so you can choose to keep fewer copies at the remote site.
3. This gives you an option to do an immediate restore in case of the main site problem.

Easy to use, set up, and manage
What is our primary use case?
Backup and recovery.
How has it helped my organization?
Veeam was very easy to use, set up, and manage.
What is most valuable?
Backup and restores.
What needs improvement?
- Support for HPE catalyst copy and cloud bank
- It could also improve on its cloud tier, to tier data to the cloud once it is backed up.
For how long have I used the solution?
Three to five years.

We can now restore a single email box with all of its folder contents
Pros and Cons
- "It has helped us transfer the solution in two days instead of working for a minimum of one week to ten days."
- "I would like for them to develop the ability to fix the way it does backups. We can't pick a backup for one database. We have to do a backup on the whole Exchange VM. I'd like for them to change it to where we can do individual backups."
What is our primary use case?
Our primary use case is for a backup solution for our front-end servers.
How has it helped my organization?
It has improved my organization by 90%. Now we can restore a single box with all of its folder contents. We could install one email, one folder or one lead and it could have still one email. This has helped us a lot. Before we used to store the entire database and then we would go to the single mailbox we need to use and we could restore it. Now we could do it instantly whereas it used to take three to four days.
What is most valuable?
We migrated our servers from physical to virtual with our B2B platform. We had a big problem when trying to transfer our site server that was about six terabytes to the new environments. We wanted to do it with minimal effort and without changing the permission because if we do a copy, the permissions won't work. We put a Veeam Windows agent on these physical servers, did a backup and then we were able to take this backup as a drive that is connected to the new VM environment. It has helped us transfer the solution in two days instead of working for a minimum of one week to ten days.
What needs improvement?
I would like for them to develop the ability to fix the way it does backups. We can't pick a backup for one database. We have to do a backup on the whole Exchange VM. I'd like for them to change it to where we can do individual backups.
I would like for it to work with Oracle VM.
For how long have I used the solution?
Less than one year.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
The solution is very stable. It has worked well since we deployed it. We haven't had any problems until now. It's currently used daily. We do backups daily, weekly and monthly.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
It's scalable. We are planning to increase usage. We are planning to buy new Oracle hardware and plan to add them to the same solution. It doesn't work with Oracle VM which is an issue.
We currently have 500 users that include top management, financial people, and engineers.
How are customer service and technical support?
The solution's technical support is good. They respond within a 20-hour timeframe. The issue that comes up with them is that our weekends don't overlap. We have off Friday and Saturday and they have off Saturday and Sunday so when we submit a request it can take a long time for them to respond. I would rate their technical support a seven out of ten.
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
We had been previously using HP Data Protector. We switched to virtualization. We switched to Veeam because the person who promoted it explained its benefits well.
How was the initial setup?
The initial setup was very straightforward. The company that we hired came in and installed it without a hitch. Now we can use it efficiently without their help. The deployment took one day. We did have a problem when we started working with it. The difference between the restore points wasn't clear. Up until this point, we're still not sure what effect it has on our backup. I would like this to be made more clear. It's easier for us to directly put it on tapes than to first put it on storage.
As far as our deployment strategy went, we started with building our jobs. We took our jobs and tried to plan them on the system and we took VMs instead of files. It has worked up until now. After a month or so we did need to make some changes to some of our jobs.
What about the implementation team?
Our integrator is one who generally deals with IBM and Lenovo hardware in Egypt and we were the first case they had working with a Veeam solution. They listened to what we needed and what we were asking for. We need on the job training so we needed their help for the first month or so after the installation. The engineer was very helpful in guiding us through the deployment. He was very professional. He helped us at the beginning but after a certain point, we had some issues and he would tell us that he'd get back to us but he never did. He was busy and didn't prioritize us because we're not his main customer. We turned for support from Veeam themselves and they were responsive and helped us.
It requires two staff members for maintenance. They're two engineers that act as backup for each other. We really only need one engineer to administer everything but if he's not there, the other one is there as backup.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
The pricing is good and affordable.
What other advice do I have?
I would advise someone considering this solution to find a good implementor who can help you during and after the implementation.
I would rate it a nine out of ten. It's a good product that we can rely on, it has many features and works on many platforms. It's a very good product.

Little to few failed backups and the replication feature has been very useful to instantly recover a VM
What is our primary use case?
VMware backup, but considering to implement Veeam's replication feature to use as part of our DR solution.
How has it helped my organization?
Reliable and easy-to-use backup and restore. Version 9.5 has been the most reliable with little to few failed backups.
What is most valuable?
Replication feature is very useful to instantly recover a VM. Not only can Veeam be used for backups, but also for DR usage as well.
What needs improvement?
Version 9.5 has been proven to be reliable, and U3a VMware 6.7 works without issues. Maybe synchronous replication.
For how long have I used the solution?
Three to five years.

It's reliable and performs complete backups effortlessly. However, it could use a storage application.
Pros and Cons
- "It helps with process restoration. With Veeam, we never had backup or restoration issues."
- "I would like to see a storage application in the next version of the product."
How has it helped my organization?
It helps with process restoration. With Veeam, we never had backup or restoration issues. It is always good when performing complete backups. It always restores, when needed.
What needs improvement?
I would like to see a storage application in the next version of the product.
For how long have I used the solution?
One to three years.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
The stability depends upon your configuration.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
I don't have a problem with Veeam's scalability.
How is customer service and technical support?
As long as you have enough storage and CPU, they know how to resolve it.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
The price is slightly higher than its competitors.
What other advice do I have?
Veeam is what it is supposed to be.

Gold standard for backup and recovery
Pros and Cons
- "Veeam is the gold standard for backup and recovery. The ease of use and reliability of this solution are real assets. Also, it has an ease of use to work with a third party vendor."
- "The virtual sandboxes seem complex to setup, so I have not invested time in leveraging this feature. It would be nice if this feature was more user-friendly."
What is most valuable?
The ease of use and reliability of this solution are real assets. Also, it has an ease of use to work with a third party vendor.
What needs improvement?
The virtual sandboxes seem complex to setup so I have not invested time in leveraging this feature. It would be nice if this feature was more user-friendly.
For how long have I used the solution?
Three to five years.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
This product has been very stable. Any issues that have come up are quickly resolved.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
I have not experienced issues with scalability. I have deployed Veeam in two different environments for different employers of mine and both have been very solid. I am currently using ExaGrid as my backend storage and it has worked very well with Veeam.
How is customer service and technical support?
I would give the tech support team a rating of nine out of ten.
How was the initial setup?
The initial setup was very straightforward. I actually had a POC backing up our entire data center to an old SAN setup within a day.
What other advice do I have?
Veeam is the gold standard for backup and recovery. If you have a primary virtualized environment, it is a great choice. Veeam's agent for physical servers works well on our few remaining physical servers.

User-friendly backup of the whole virtual server
Pros and Cons
- "The most important part is that you actually know you have a backup of the whole virtual server."
- "I have also been struggling with the storage and in some cases I need to move things due to performance."
What is our primary use case?
We are using Veeam at our college and we have been connected for a while now. We use it for backing up virtual servers in the Hyperwave and it is working very well. It works well for backing up services. We can backup Microsoft Exchange and Microsoft Sharepoint and it is actually easy to understand how to restore from it. It has an easy UI.
How has it helped my organization?
The most important part is that we know we have a backup of the whole virtual server. We can restore the whole server if we want, or just take some specific files. I like this duality of the product. That's how I put it on virtualized software.
What needs improvement?
The most important improvement would be for it to be updated to support new servers and we actually are in a situation that we are going to connect our Exchange service to a new one. They have to actually support new software as they are released and I think Veeam has promised to support new Windows upgrades which is important .
If they had some more agents for physical computers, that would also be a nice feature.
I have also been struggling with the storage, and in some cases I need to move things due to performance. We can use replication and we hope that this will help us continue with Veeam.
For how long have I used the solution?
More than five years.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
This solution is very stable. I have been struggling with the storage now and that's not Veeam's fault, but sometimes I have problems with it. We are short on storage right now, but because of some performance issues we have to reserve a room at our location and the connection between those two rooms is not great. I hope I found the cause of that problem so in this situation we actually have been struggling with storage. I know that Veeam has support for more storage. If there was a snapshot functionality on Veeam, it would help. I think we cannot use the replication part of the solution but I think we are going to use it more now when they have more of the location sites, and replicate to the different locations.
How is customer service and technical support?
I know they have good support, but I haven't been using them very often. I'd like to try and figure out what the problem is myself. I know that we have a contract to use their help. Mostly I use the support for upgrades to new versions. I don't contact Veeam support very often.
How was the initial setup?
The initial setup was straightforward. It was easy to install. If you miss some plugins for Windows, you actually can click "okay" and it's on the installation media. The installation is very easy.
What was our ROI?
It is a cheap solution with the ability to backup for our needs.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
The price is great. It's software related, and I know that might be a good thing because it's a cheap solution to buy and we have been looking for a program for backup and they fit the bill. The price of Veeam and its software related products enable you to have your own hardware. You can use your own infrastructure and you can actually buy what you want. This is cost-effective. It might be that if you buy something else and they have media things it's very expensive but it works very well. If your company has pressure to actually get back data very quickly, it might not be possible with this solution. Our college environment doesn't seem to have this problem. There has not been much down time but I think if the server is broken, it just restores within an hour and everything returns back to normal.
What other advice do I have?
You can actually use the infrastructure you already have so you don't have to buy new hardware to actually start using it. That's the most important part about this solution.

The Integration of physical agents and our cloud connect service is a valuable feature
Pros and Cons
- "The ntegration of physical agents with our cloud connect service is positive."
- "Recovery speed is slow. Full recovery on large machines (1TB+) takes too long"
What is our primary use case?
Until a year ago, this solution was our primary backup and recovery product. We are a cloud connect partner so we provide backups both onsite and offsite as well as replication.
How has it helped my organization?
Veeam has simplified backups for MSPs over the years and is one of the easiest products to deploy.
What is most valuable?
The most valuable feature has been the integration of physical agents and our cloud connect service. Using this, we're in the process of replacing one of our legacy backup products and standardizing on two products to handle all of our backup and recovery needs.
What needs improvement?
I've always found recovery speed to be its downfall. If you have a very large machine (1TB+) I would not recommend Veeam be the primary recovery product because of the amount of time it would take to recover if you had to do full recovery. It can absolutely do the job, but I suggest augmenting Veeam with a solution that can recover more quickly, which would most likely be storage snapshot based.
For how long have I used the solution?
More than five years.

Architect Backup/Recovery with 1,001-5,000 employees
A flexible product missing some commonsense features and tools
Pros and Cons
- "Veeam replication gives migration tools/options for VMware."
- "I enjoy the ability to quickly search for VMs through the Veeam console."
- "The remote SQL server has had multiple sizing issues within the logs and SQL backup space and sharing with other database apps."
- "The product is missing some commonsense features and tools for an enterprise backup recovery product,"
What is our primary use case?
For multiple data centers:
- Backup and recovery for VMware 2000 VMs
- Windows and Linux Clients
- Migrations (replication).
How has it helped my organization?
Veeam does its job well. However, there are more than a dozen commonsense items which should have been built into the software, such as being able to sort the column of server names while in a backup job and being able to see what VMs are already in a job when you add a new server.
What is most valuable?
Veeam replication gives migration tools/options for VMware, which is nice. I also enjoy the ability to quickly search for VMs through the Veeam console.
What needs improvement?
The product is missing some commonsense features and tools for an enterprise backup recovery product, but it is reliable, fairly resilient, and works.
I do not like how Veeam's software is dependent on a remote database which relies on the architecture that Veeam is protecting. HA for SQL (Veeam's database) is not really supported. I have been there, and done that. This leads to jobs corrupted, chains broken, etc.
For how long have I used the solution?
One to three years.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
The remote SQL server has had multiple sizing issues within the logs and SQL backup space and sharing with other database apps.
For example, when the SQL became unresponsive, Veeam crashed, jobs got corrupted, chains had to be restarted, old chains kept and pruned, etc.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
A little, but storage sizing is done by another company.
How are customer service and technical support?
Half of Veeam support reps are very helpful and will explain in detail what is wrong and how to fix it. The other half are extremely polite and will provide some basic support, but rather than explain what needs to be fixed, they ask you to run some recommended steps and methods that take time providing with no real results so they can go work on another ticket.
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
We switched for multiple reasons. More options and configurations are available with Veeam. It can be a very flexible product.
How was the initial setup?
Initial setup was easy. However, after 40 days, it may not act the way you predicted it would. You may have to go back and make changes.
With Veeam, you need to analyze how everything works, not just how it looks like it should work compared to your experience with similar products.
What about the implementation team?
Implementation was all internal.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
Setup cost and licensing of Veeam are nothing to complain about when compared to similar products for enterprise backup recovery solutions.
Which other solutions did I evaluate?
We did not evaluate them to the same extent since they did not pass our evaluation requirements.
What other advice do I have?
You will enjoy Veeam's resiliency. It does not break in the middle of the night if properly designed, and Veeam gives you tools to make this easier to do than other products. Users will be able to get around Veeam's shortcomings more easily if they are experienced with PowerShell scripting and watch the SQL database server (for remote SQL servers) like its your lifeline.
Disclosure: I am a real user, and this review is based on my own experience and opinions.
Nice review and great suggestions. I would like sorting in the job settings as well but when adding a server you can see what VMs are already there unless you are referring to the main Job screen? They have come a long way and architecting the solution is the key especially knowing what you want to do when it comes to backup. Veeam can do it you just need to plan ahead.

Helps us protect our IP address and critical information but needs faster recovery onsite
Pros and Cons
- "It has helped us to protect our IP address and critical information."
- "The only issue on which we would like to see for improvement would be, potentially, the ability to do some different things with recovery, like faster recovery onsite."
What is our primary use case?
Backing up VMs and it has been successful so far.
How has it helped my organization?
It has mainly been in dev testing, so I would say it's helped us to protect our IP address and critical information.
What is most valuable?
The most valuable feature is its consistency.
What needs improvement?
The only issue on which we would like to see for improvement would be, potentially, the ability to do some different things with recovery, like faster recovery onsite.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
It seems pretty stable.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
I can't say that I have tested scalability.
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
We didn't have a previous solution. We just realized that protecting some of the important data was something that was needed at a certain point, that we needed to do.
Most important criterion when selecting a vendor would be: Does the solution it fit our needs, what we are trying to do?
How was the initial setup?
My understanding is that the initial setup was pretty simple and straightforward.
What other advice do I have?
Right now we haven't fully exercised the solution but what I'm seeing on the backup side is pretty good. On the recovery/restore side maybe not so much. We're still validating that. So I would give it seven out of 10 overall.
My advice would be, test it out and make sure it does what you want it to do. And make sure you can do what you need to get your data secure.

How are customer service and technical support?
It provides the maximum level of support.
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
I have used all flavors of backup solutions since early 1990s, this is by far the most advanced yet and easiest product to use.
How was the initial setup?
It was straightforward. Basically, it was start, next, then finish.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
It can be costly if the wrong license type is chosen. It is important to know what is needed before ordering.
Which other solutions did I evaluate?
I have used all flavors of backup solutions since early 1990s, this is by far the most advanced yet and easiest product to use.

Being agentless minimized the install process for new servers.
What is most valuable?
Being agentless minimized the install process for new servers. If you are using folder on your backup configuration, all the new servers has been backuped without any intervention on the backup server.
How has it helped my organization?
It provides more efficiency to restore lost files that were deleted by users. It provides a restoring process for a complete server and replications on another site for the DRP servers.
What needs improvement?
Client/agent for non-virtualized servers: This can be improved by integrating them in the same way as the virtual servers and integrating them into the same backup jobs. Actually, the Veeam team recommends making separate jobs for these servers. The options of the job are not the same if it’s a VM or a physical server.
The best solution is to have the same functionality for a virtual or a physical server.
I have already discussed this point with a member of the Veeam development and he replied to me that it will be improved in Version10. We are waiting ;-)
For how long have I used the solution?
More than 5 years
What was my experience with deployment of the solution?
Nothing, the only problem encounter during installation is a Windows firewall problem but not linked directly to Veeam.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
We have not had stability issues.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
We have not had scalability issues.
How are customer service and technical support?
Customer Service:
Customer service is very reactive, you can open a call and be sure that's solved or helped on a 24h max.
Technical Support:I would give technical support a rating of 10/10 for fast replies and solutions.
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
We were using Symantec Backup Exec. We switched for the simplicity of management with Veeam.
How was the initial setup?
The initial setup was straightforward, but now our infrastructure is more complex. We started with five servers and now we have more than 150 servers protected by the Veeam solution.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
The pricing and licensing are reasonable.
Which other solutions did I evaluate?
We looked at Acronis, NetBackup, and Backup Exec.
What other advice do I have?
No special advice, other than just follow the wizard and you can start faster than another solution.

It is very simple and fast to power-on a replicated server, making it come online again
What is most valuable?
Replication (fast recovery for replicated servers).
How has it helped my organization?
It has decreased downtime issues. By using replication, we decreased our downtime for crashed servers and having other service/system issues.
It is very simple and fast to power-on a replicated server, making it come online again.
What needs improvement?
I'm not sure if this option is available in new versions. But different types of licenses could not be used on the same Veeam server in the past, it would be good to be able to use mixed types of licenses in the same server.
For how long have I used the solution?
About four years.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
No, it is working nice and smooth.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
No, because we are using this product in a small environment.
How are customer service and technical support?
We do not encounter many problems with the product, but we do get an instant response when needed.
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
We are still using a different product for backup. Veeam is being used for replication only.
How was the initial setup?
Since it was a single server setup, it was easy to install and configure.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
It is acceptable for us because we having been using it for approximately four years. However, I think for new buyers/customers it may be cheaper than other products.
Which other solutions did I evaluate?
Another product is being used for backup. We did a PoC with Veeam, then bought it.
What other advice do I have?
It is easy, with many features, (I think) it is cheaper. Very useful for virtual environments.

We test new patches or features on a VM, which is the same as our production environment
What is most valuable?
It is very easy to recover from crashes or create testing environments.
How has it helped my organization?
By using the “Instant VM Recovery”, we test new patches or features on a VM, which is the same as our production environment.
What needs improvement?
Our VMware License is the Enterprise Plus with Operations Management. For this reason, we only rely on Veeam for backups and a few tests.
Most of our activities are done using VMware itself.
Veeam has more features than we actually use, for example, the virtual labs.
They could integrate Veeam with the storage centers, in order not to use the Veeam Backup Repository Servers anymore.
For how long have I used the solution?
I have used the solution for three years.
Our organization has always used the latest stable version of the Enterprise Edition.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
No.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
No. If we need to scale, we just create more proxy VMs to help with the extra load.
How are customer service and technical support?
We rarely use Veeam's tech support. When we needed it, they were very helpful.
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
We had other backup solutions, but Veeam has proved to be better than VMware.
How was the initial setup?
The initial setup was made by a consultant from Veeam. It took less than one week to have everything configured and ready for production.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
The price for Veeam is better than other backup solutions that we have found out there.
Which other solutions did I evaluate?
Yes. We also use Bacula, but Veeam proved to be faster and more reliable.
What other advice do I have?
First of all, find out what your backup needs are. After that, try an evaluation (or free) version.

How has it helped my organization?
We use Veeam to protect our production environment without the need to install clients on every VM for every different MSFT applications that we have in production.
What needs improvement?
Veeam's been doing a good job in terms of delivering new features.
For how long have I used the solution?
We have used this solution for more than 5 years.
What was my experience with deployment of the solution?
The deployment was easy as pie.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
There were no stability issues.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
Our production environment is small but growing. So far, there have been no issues in terms of scalability for our use.
How are customer service and technical support?
Customer Service:
Customer service is pretty good. I would give them a rating of 7/10.
I never had to use technical support. The tool is pretty intuitive and we can solve most of the issues on our own.
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
It all comes down to cost.
How was the initial setup?
The initial setup it was straightforward.
What about the implementation team?
We did an in-house implementation.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

Instant Recovery reduces the recovery time and enhances the business continuity results
What is most valuable?
Instant Recovery is an amazing feature which reduces the recovery time from hours or sometimes from days to minutes. It enhances the business continuity results.
With the Instant Recovery, you can run the virtual machine from the backup repository at any disaster time. The users can access data and applications within a maximum of two minutes.
For how long have I used the solution?
I have used this solution for three years.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
There were no stability issues.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
There were no scalability issues.
How are customer service and technical support?
I would rate the technical support a a seven out of 10.
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
We still use other solutions to back up the physical environment, since Veeam only supports virtual machines.
How was the initial setup?
The setup was very easy and straightforward, i.e., without any problems.
What other advice do I have?
I always recommend using all the Veeam features, not only to just create backup jobs.
Veeam is not only a backup software, it helps your organization for business continuity and disaster recovery as well.

The WAN accelerator feature has been the most valuable for me. We evaluated many tools, but this was clearly better.
Pros and Cons
- "The WAN accelerator feature has been the most valuable for me. That feature reduced the time needed to complete the task from 25 days to less than a week! This is compared with the original tools used: ntbackup, robocopy and Windows Server Backup."
- "Some support replies for a broken backup task have been "rebuild the job from scratch" and this is a bad thing to do if you have many VMs and repositories."
How has it helped my organization?
Before Veeam our customer used to backup data with obsolete tools and had no central console management, so every site had single task to be checked everyday. Now, he receives the full backup report as an email attachment everyday.
What is most valuable?
The WAN accelerator feature has been the most valuable for me. My customer was in trouble because he found a huge quantity of data to be moved from foreign countries sites to the HQ in Milan. That feature reduced the time needed to complete the task from 25 days to less than a week! This is compared with the original tools used: ntbackup, robocopy and Windows Server Backup.
What needs improvement?
I think user support can be more analytic. Some support replies for a broken backup task have been "rebuild the job from scratch" and this is a bad thing to do if you have many VMs and repositories.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
During a WAN copy we found an issue that if the connection drops and the program reaches the retry limit, sometimes this damages of the backup chain. Strangely, the program runs the day after but it looses the retention points number. For instance, if I set up a 30 day retention point, instead of deleting the oldest file and merging the new one, it keeps going on till the repository is full.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
I did not encounter any issue with scalability.
How are customer service and technical support?
I would rate support 7/10.
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
I used many other tools: Acronis, vSphere Data Protection, Symantec BES. I moved to Veeam because I initially found many high level features missing in the other tools. Now the gap is thinned, but I feel more confident with Veeam.
How was the initial setup?
The initial setup has not been simple due to the complexity of the customer's infrastructure and the number of features to be aware of. Veeam initially can be complex. If you want to enable all the modules, you must know how Veeam organizes its console and where to find a feature.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
I think the price is good when you choose the Essentials Suite, but when you buy a full featured version (for instance the Enterprise Plus) the price is a little bit expensive. This is typical when a company becomes an industry leader.
Which other solutions did I evaluate?
We evaluated Veritas Backup Exec, Acronis and many others, but Veeam was clearly better. That is the reason why we switched.
What other advice do I have?
If you have a complex environment, first study well how Veeam works. Having some days of training before is better than loosing some weeks after to rebuild the logical structure and jobs many times.
Disclosure: My company has a business relationship with this vendor other than being a customer: Our company is a Veeam reseller.

there should be more manufacturers integrating their technologies, as that would allow more customers to make use of this excellent feature.
Pros and Cons
- "The product allows us to use data more efficiently, reducing the cost of storage and backup time. It is vital to have data available in the shortest possible time."
How has it helped my organization?
Our virtual datacenter is protected with different types of backups, but critical ones are "always protected". We can restore a VM backup in just minutes, even from a snapshot.
What is most valuable?
RTO time and speed
The product allows us to use data more efficiently, reducing the cost of storage and backup time. It is vital to have data available in the shortest possible time.
Instant file level recovery
Instant File-Level Restore or IFLR can be used to recover individual VM guest OS files and folders from VM backups. The product doesn't require you to restore a full backup and later search for a specific file. Instead, we can restore files and folders from a regular image-level backup at the necessary point-in-time. IFLR also works with any VM guest OS file system, expanding our possibilities in mixed environments.
WAN Acceleration
If you want to do remote backup or replication jobs, WAN acceleration technology is ideal. It works without problems and with limited bandwidths. When using the accelerators, the CBT allows us to work very efficiently. Before, we needed to make these copies in remote repositories, which took hours. The connections also failed very often. This type of situation is what optimizes WAN Acceleration.
Integrated vendors
With regard to the integration of Veeam with storage manufacturers, it must be said that the list always continues to grow. This growth is very good for all who use these brands. However, there should be more manufacturers integrating their technologies, as that would allow more customers to make use of this excellent feature.
What needs improvement?
The updates of this product are very fast and they always improve the solution.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
I have not encountered any issues with stability.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
I have not encountered any issues with scalability.
How are customer service and technical support?
I would rate the level of technical support 10/10. It is very fast and reliable.
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
I previously used Symantec Backup Exec. It was slow, incomplete, complex, used agents, and the technical support was useless, slow and ineffective. We would pray that we would not have a problem.
How was the initial setup?
The setup is very easy and totally intuitive.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
The price is a bit high. Licensing type is VMware friendly, so it is easy.
Which other solutions did I evaluate?
We did not evaluate other options.
What other advice do I have?
If you have virtualized or physical (lastest update of Veeam), you can trust in this solution. Our recovery time was reduced from many hours to a few minutes. Integration with VMware is transparent, easy to use, and intuitive. Backup storage is very efficient and using CBT saves a lot of disk space. Using tapes was greatly improved in the latest version, as well as integration with other sellers' storage products.

Instant VM restore is one of the most valuable features of this product.
Pros and Cons
- "It lets you verify a backup with the least amount of effort."
- "Offering mobile apps that give engineers a global view of his backup regime would be a "nice to have" feature."
How has it helped my organization?
Previously, a backup expert would be required to get a backup product to function properly. With Veeam Backup and Restore, things are so simple and efficient that you do not need to spend hours on end configuring the product. This allows engineers to focus on other business critical applications.
What is most valuable?
Instant VM restore is one of the coolest functions within this product. It lets you verify a backup with the least amount of effort, especially when backing up a VM before running some maintenance.
What needs improvement?
Offering mobile apps that give engineers a global view of his backup regime would be a "nice to have" feature.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
We have experienced no stability issues at all.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
We have not yet had any stability issues. I have deployed this product in very large environments and I have never been limited with its scalability.
How are customer service and technical support?
There is room for improvement. However, when compared to other products, the support is on the good side.
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
I haven’t used any other solution. I have always used this product for VM backups.
How was the initial setup?
Since scalability is simple, i.e., you can deploy a proxy or add a new gateway, the initial setup is also simple.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
The pricing makes sense, especially with the number of VMs you can fit on one socket nowadays. Since pricing is per socket, it is not expensive to add capacity as you go along.
Which other solutions did I evaluate?
Fortunately or unfortunately, I did not look at other options.
What other advice do I have?
Make sure not to overlook the network capacity during the planning stage. This obviously depends on your backup set and has to be given more importance if your backup set is considerable.

Senior Storage & Virtualisation Engineer (Managed Services) at a tech services company with 1,001-5,000 employees
We can offer disaster recovery services for managed services customers.
Pros and Cons
- "The direct SAN backup feature perfectly integrates with our 3PAR storage infrastructure."
- "The direct SAN backup integration can be perfected by improving the snapshot removal mechanism and process from the storage volumes."
How has it helped my organization?
This product has improved the entire RTO and allows us to restore applications and services to customers within a few minutes.
What is most valuable?
- The object level restore from the Active Directory
- Microsoft Exchange
- Microsoft SQL
- Backup and restore of vCloud Director Objects
- Direct SAN integration with 3PAR
I like these features because they are helpful in offering additional and detailed disaster recovery services for managed services customers. The direct SAN backup feature perfectly integrates with our 3PAR storage infrastructure. It has significantly reduced the time it takes to backup virtual machines.
What needs improvement?
The direct SAN backup integration can be perfected by improving the snapshot removal mechanism and process from the storage volumes. This will prevent stale snapshots from accumulating on the data stores, which in turn consumes precious space.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
There were no stability issues that I can think of. When the best practices for deploying Veeam Backup and Replication are strictly followed, the system can be stable without any issues.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
We didn’t have any problems with scalability at all. It all comes down to how to deploy the Veeam infrastructure. If it is well designed, scaling is no problem.
How are customer service and technical support?
The technical support is fairly good.
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
I have used other solutions in the past, but I switched because Veeam just works. It is pretty easy to set up, use, and it has fewer limitations.
How was the initial setup?
The setup is straightforward, depending on how you want to deploy it. The installer can configure everything for you on the same server with all the relevant databases. It will also automatically install any required external software needed for Veeam to operate.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
The licensing is based on the number of cores you have in your ESX or Hyper-V environment. That should be taken into consideration when purchasing the Veeam Backup and Replication solution.
Which other solutions did I evaluate?
I have used TSM, Backup Exec, and Retrospect.
What other advice do I have?
I would recommend IT professionals who run their infrastructure in a predominantly virtual environment to go for the Veeam Backup and Replication solution. It does the job and it is relatively easy to set up.

The ability of instant VM recovery is the most valuable feature. It is more stable then most other solutions in this area.
Pros and Cons
- "The ability of instant VM recovery, which means starting the backup VM and getting it online while the recovery is still happening is the most valuable feature."
How has it helped my organization?
One of our customers was hit by a ransomware attack shortly after they implemented the multi-tier backup with Veeam. They were able to recover 10.000+ files almost instantly and never lost more then 2 hours of work.
What is most valuable?
The ability of instant VM recovery, which means starting the backup VM and getting it online while the recovery is still happening is the most valuable feature. Also, the ability to construct a multi-tier backup system, where the final backups can even be stored on tape.
It is the best product for backup of virtualised servers, individual VMs and single servers. The product is getting even better by being able to back up single files as well
What needs improvement?
Room for improvement is actually more in the way of licensing. The really good and useful features are in the Enterprise plus edition, and that one is really expensive. I've had customers shying away from Veeam because of the price tag attached to the version they really wanted. For one host with 2 CPUs (very common these days) Enterprise Plus costs $1900, and we are talking about virtualisation hosts so there will be a couple of them.
Now that Veeam has announced new versions and features I fear the price will go up even more.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
The product is more stable then most other solutions in this area. We have not had any complaints in five years.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
Up to Version 9 we could not backup to tape, which was a show-stopper for some companies. The ability to backup encrypted VMs to Azure or AWS cloud infratructure eliminates all scalability issues.
How are customer service and technical support?
We seldom contact support, but in the cases we do, I’d give it a 9, 10 being the best.
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
We are consulting customers who have special needs in backup situations (among other stuff). Veeam was always the best solution to backup VMs and with continuing virtualisation this became more important. Now that we can do file level backup as well, we expect more customers moving to Veeam.
How was the initial setup?
It is very easy to implement Veeam and relatively easy to get good results initially. However, as with every backup solution, it can get very complex very fast, so consulting and planning is needed with regard of more complex setups.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
We are partnered with Veeam, so always get a consulting company for good prices and help with the planning and setup.
Which other solutions did I evaluate?
We have experience in many backup solutions, including IBM Tivoli, Avamar, and Zerto. They have their purpose but are more specialised/complex and mostly more expensive.
What other advice do I have?
Get a consulting company to look at your setup and needs. Have them evaluate more than one backup solution and have them run a proof-of-concept so you can get a good grasp of the products. Test the two best ones, then choose the winner.
Disclosure: My company has a business relationship with this vendor other than being a customer: We are Veeam Partner, we also have trained Veeam teachers. We are not biased towards Veeam, but it is our backup tool of choice for most setups.

Enables us to restore the VM when the needs arises and for disaster recovery.
Pros and Cons
- "Enables us to restore the VM when the needs arises and for disaster recovery."
- "Near-synchronous, better RPO and RTO snapshot-based takes a lot of space and resources."
How has it helped my organization?
We had an issue with power in the data center and one of the IBM storage devices could not startup. We managed to restore all of the VMs from Veeam and disaster recovery was executed as expected within our SLA.
What is most valuable?
Enables us to restore the VM when the needs arises and for disaster recovery.
What needs improvement?
- Near-synchronous, better RPO and RTO snapshot-based takes a lot of space and resources.
- They could look at different ways to replicate only new changes or blocks.
- If we have to use Veeam for disaster recovery, we need to make sure that we can at least have up to 10 or 15 minutes of data before a disaster happens. Currently, you can have replication but this uses/eats up a lot of resources, on the network. Is there any other way they could increase RPO with less or limited network resources being used?
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
We did have stability issues and we had to contact technical support. They were very helpful.
How are customer service and technical support?
Technical support is very good.
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
We didn’t have any previous tools for this.
How was the initial setup?
The initial setup was straightforward. We did quite a bit of research and lab testing before the actual implementation. The white papers where very helpful
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
The pricing and licensing is better than the competitors, but it could be better.
Which other solutions did I evaluate?
We looked at Zerto and Acronis.
What other advice do I have?
If they are looking for backup and recovery, Veeam is the way to go. If they are looking for a high RPO and RTO, Zerto is the way to go.

Running the virtual machine from within the backup gives us the chance to test the machine before restoring it.
What is most valuable?
Running the virtual machine from within the backup gives us the chance to test the machine before restoring it.
How has it helped my organization?
In the past, we were using another backup product. We used it to restore the machine multiple times, until we reached the required version of the machines. This process takes a very long time to finish.
What needs improvement?
I am looking for the ability to:
- Backup physical machines
- Backup exchange mailboxes and retrieve a message in a mailbox
- Backup SQL servers and retrieve a record in a table
- Backup the Active Directory and retrieve a single object
For how long have I used the solution?
I have used Veeam for four years.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
We have not encountered any issues with stability.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
I have not had any issues with scalability.
How are customer service and technical support?
The support staff team is perfect. I hope they keep that level of perfection.
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
The features in Veeam are much better than in the other products.
How was the initial setup?
The setup was straightforward and the pre-sales engineer helped us a lot to set up the product according to best practices.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
According to the features, I believe it has a reasonable price.
Which other solutions did I evaluate?
We evaluated Veeam ONE.
What other advice do I have?
I am already telling others that I use this solution when I meet them in conferences and meetings.

VM backup and ease of use are the most valuable features.
What is most valuable?
VM backup and ease of use are the most valuable features.
How has it helped my organization?
It helps the discovery of the new VM. It allows me to use the same tools when we decided to move from VMware to Hyper-V.
What needs improvement?
The physical system support needs improvement. I know that the latest version has this feature, but it was too late as I am already using it for three years. For the time being, I have used another backup software (EMC NetWorker) and they seem to catch up a lot during the past few years.
For how long have I used the solution?
I have used this solution for three years.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
Stability is good so far; hopefully, we will not have any problems.
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
If one day the EMC NetWorker will offer same features, then I will have to switch as they offer more than what I want.
How was the initial setup?
The setup looks simple, you set it up once and forget .
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
If they can give more add-ons (such as training) for the pricing.
Which other solutions did I evaluate?
We looked at EMC NetWorker and Veritas NetBackup.
What other advice do I have?
Keep it up.

Creates backups from storage snapshots. The heavy client is still needed to perform advanced tasks.
Pros and Cons
- "Replication Job base on a source HPE Catalyst store to perform a full reconstruction of our production systems on our third datacenter, which is our DRP Site."
- "We would like to have the ability to perform more things on the web interface. The heavy client is still needed to perform advanced tasks."
How has it helped my organization?
No time has to be spent on debugging backups. We know everything works just fine and we can focus on our business.
What is most valuable?
- Backup from storage snapshots. We are using 3PAR full flash arrays. This allows us to have nearly no impact on our production workloads.
- Backup Copy Job integrated to HPE Catalyst to copy our backups to our third Datacenter with the best timeframe
- Replication Job base on a source HPE Catalyst store to perform a full reconstruction of our production systems on our third datacenter, which is our DRP Site.
- SureReplica jobs which allow us to fully test our DRP with really minimum effort and in a timely manner.
- Item-level recovery for Active Directory
What needs improvement?
We would like to have the ability to perform more things on the web interface. The heavy client is still needed to perform advanced tasks.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
There were minor stability issues that were quickly solved by the support team.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
We had no scalability issues.
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
We started with Veeam since the beginning. We are a startup.
How was the initial setup?
It is very straightforward and easy setup. Kind of Next, Next, Next, and finish. You need some time to plan the architecture (sizing and role placement) and then it is easy to deploy.
Which other solutions did I evaluate?
We did not evaluate other options. We knew what we wanted.
What other advice do I have?
The Availability Suite is a good choice because of Veeam ONE, which gives you visibility on the whole infrastructure stack as well as reporting about how backups are doing.
Just try it with the free trial license key to form your own opinion. Each business has specific needs, so you need to evaluate the product by yourself. Since the setup is very easy for a PoC, you should definitively give it a try. It out performs our expectations.

Its ease of use and simple UI are the most valuable features.
What is most valuable?
Its ease of use is the most valuable feature. It has a very simple UI.
How has it helped my organization?
Veeam is a very stable product. The ease of use and UI are some of its highlights. Learning this tool is very easy and you do not need any training classes.
What needs improvement?
Right now, replication it does in every 15 minutes. However, if it could do continuous replication or even bring it down to 5 minutes, then it would be great.
For how long have I used the solution?
I have used the first version and stopped using it for a while, due to many physical servers in our environment. I have been using the new version for almost a year.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
There were no stability issues that could not be resolved.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
There were no scalability issues.
How are customer service and technical support?
The technical support is excellent; they are very prompt and knowledgeable.
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
We were using another solution before this one. The reason we moved over to this solution was that we were only 30% virtualized, so we had to use a product that had backup physical servers.
How was the initial setup?
The setup was very straightforward and any technical person can do the initial setup.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
Licensing is per CPU, so it depends on the number of physical CPUs.
Which other solutions did I evaluate?
Based on my previous experience with Veeam, I didn’t evaluate anything else.
What other advice do I have?
It is a very solid product with an easy UI. If you are 90% virtualized, then it is a great product.

We are able to assure greater uptime for our servers and clients.
Pros and Cons
- "With Replication, Veeam allows us to have a duplicated VM on standby."
- "The physical server backups and direct storage connectivity need improvement."
How has it helped my organization?
With Veeam Backup and Replication, we have closed the time it would take to recover from a VM failure. We are able to assure greater uptime for our servers and clients.
What is most valuable?
With Replication, Veeam allows us to have a duplicated VM on standby.
In the event that we need to failover to the replicated VM, Veeam allows a very simple and fast procedure to do so.
What needs improvement?
The physical server backups and direct storage connectivity need improvement.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
Stability has not been an issue. In my experience, it has been very reliable and stable.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
I have directly not encountered any scalability issues. We have a few dedicated Veeam Backup and Replication servers in our environment. Veeam Backup and Replication allows “proxy” servers to enable the scalability.
How are customer service and technical support?
The few times that I’ve had to call Veeam support, it has been a pleasant experience. They are courteous and professional; they handled each case satisfactorily.
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
We were not using any other solution prior to this one. We have used Veeam since the start of our data center virtualization.
How was the initial setup?
The setup and integration were very straightforward. Setting up a few jobs was a little more complex, but that was due to the complexity as to how the VM needed to be backed up and where it was being backed up to.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
I always tell others upfront that the licensing is based on the number of host CPUs. I also explain how easy it is to recover VM data or the entire VM and to take that into consideration when looking at the pricing.
What other advice do I have?
Be sure to size your backup data volumes correctly. Whatever you think is enough, you will soon need more than what it may seem initially.

The SQL table-level restore helps the customer to restore a single table instead of the entire database.
What is most valuable?
There are many features that include the SQL table-level restore, Instant VM Recovery, and SureBackup, which are valuable to us.
- SQL table-level restore: It helps the customer to restore a single table instead of the entire database which reduces the backup window dramatically.
- Instant VM Recovery: It helps in case of a VM crash down.
- SureBackup: You are assured that your backup is recoverable.
How has it helped my organization?
We are a MSP and we deliver the best solutions to our customers.
Veeam was one of the key products available for the virtualized environment.
What needs improvement?
They have to expand their operations for the physical environment.
For how long have I used the solution?
I have used this solution for two years.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
There were no stability issues. If VMware works fine, then you wont face any issues with Veeam.
How are customer service and technical support?
Since they don’t have any technical support center in India, I would like to rate it a 5 out of 10.
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
As I have mentioned earlier, we are a MSP and we design solutions according to the customer's needs.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
Pricing is reasonable and the product is worth investing in.
Which other solutions did I evaluate?
We were evaluating Arcserve for the virtual environment. However, Veaam has better adaptability towards the virtual environment.
What other advice do I have?
VMware = Veeam is the best backup and replication solution.
Microsoft Hyper-V = Veeam is the best backup and replication solution.
Disclosure: I am a real user, and this review is based on my own experience and opinions.
From what I have done scheduling is good in the new version at the Windows Agent. Also SQL and Exchange restores leverage the Veeam Explorers so you can restore a database or table even single emails.
Owner
The biggest advantage has become the functionality of instant recovery and a synthetic full backup.
What is most valuable?
In the past, it was an agentless backup for virtual machines run on the VMware ESX and ESXi (free ESXi without vCenter) servers. As the competitive products also began to use CBT and began to dismantle agentless backup, the biggest advantage for me was the functionality of instant recovery and a synthetic full backup. The SureBackup task and the ability to quickly create a clone of the production environment for testing are also great.
How has it helped my organization?
It ensures the security of the stored data. It saves time for recovery and disk space.
What needs improvement?
Improve compatibility with the database systems such as Oracle, PostgreSQL, and MySQL, and increase the number of compatible disk systems for the snapshot functionality.
For how long have I used the solution?
I have used this solution for about 6-7 years.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
There were standard problems with the snapshot consolidation for big virtual disks.
How are customer service and technical support?
The technical support is great.
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
We have used almost all of biggest players for a backup solution. Veeam won because it is simple to use and great to integrate with virtualization solutions.
How was the initial setup?
The setup was easy and quick.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
It would be useful to use the capacity licensing option.
Which other solutions did I evaluate?
We looked at other solutions, namely Dell EMC Data Protection Suite (DPS), Veritas Backup Exec and IBM Spectrum Protect.
What other advice do I have?
It always depends on your needs and the client's environment. If the client has virtualization for almost all systems, then Veeam is the best way to protect them.

The ability to offload backup snapshots to the SAN helps with reducing the backup durations.
Pros and Cons
- "The ability to offload backup snapshots to the SAN helps with reducing the backup durations."
- "They need to address the confusing recovery dialogue."
How has it helped my organization?
There’s not much a backup software can do to the organization but its features enable us to have an inexpensive data recovery solution that ultimately plays a factor when choosing to move applications and services to the cloud.
What is most valuable?
The greatest benefit of this software is its reliability. The ability to offload backup snapshots to the SAN helps with reducing the backup durations. The ability to turn on each VM for verification that the backup is reliable is another great feature. Recovery of a VM often takes longer for the tech to respond than the software to complete its recovery and power on speaks to the recover speed. The changed block tracking feature is one that enables us to choose which systems need a frequent (i.e., 5 min) incremental.
What needs improvement?
They need to address the confusing recovery dialogue. When you go through the recovery of just a single file within a VM you select the file recovery type and then after selecting a point in time you are presented with a “Finish” button. It’s not clear that no existing files would be overwritten nor affected which can be especially stressful when the VM is live. A change to this dialogue would be welcomed.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
In earlier versions, there were some stability issues, but nothing in recent years that I can recall.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
We have not had scalability issues and I don’t see how this couldn’t scale to a much larger environment than the one I’m responsible for.
How are customer service and technical support?
The support staff are very knowledgeable to what I remember. We don’t really utilize them much, but a couple years back when we had storage issues, Veeam was very helpful.
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
I’ve used traditional backup software that was based on tape and their move to VM backups still used this model. I always tried to pigeon hole backups to disk into tape containers which too frequently resulted in problems. Other VM backups earlier on didn’t improve at the same rate as Veeam.
How was the initial setup?
Setup has always been simple. You add your host, a connection to a backup location and in a few clicks you’ve initiated your first backup. I’m simplifying it but if you compare it to most others, the setup takes a fraction of the time.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
If you have Exchange, Oracle, SQL, or a supported SAN, then I suggest getting at least an Enterprise edition. It’ll pay for itself in no time.
Which other solutions did I evaluate?
We looked at Veritas NetBackup, ArcServe, Veritas Backup Exec, CommVault, and one other that has since gone out of business. The name eludes me.
What other advice do I have?
I suggest that you have another set of backups than just a deduping appliance that replicates offsite. This ‘second’ backup should be stored in a secure manner considering the news of backups being taken hostage by ransomware.
Disclosure: I am a real user, and this review is based on my own experience and opinions.
Nice review. Definitely love the snapshot integration for backup as we are a Nimble shop and it speeds backups up compared to previous.

It is integrated with HPE storage solutions and it supports VM recovery.
What is most valuable?
It’s very simple to implement and use. It is agentless. It is integrated with HPE storage solutions (SAN and a deduplicated repository) and it supports instant VM recovery.
How has it helped my organization?
We have significantly improved the restore process of single items, like an Exchange Mailbox with a very simple wizard-driven process.
What needs improvement?
It requires a Windows Server, but it would be a good idea to have an appliance with no Microsoft license required. As of now, there’s no chance to backup NAS shares (CIFS/NFS).
For how long have I used the solution?
I have known and used Veeam Backup and Replication from v6 in 2011.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
There were no stability issues in my experience.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
There were some issues with repository scalability in legacy versions.
How are customer service and technical support?
The technical support team is professional and competent. I would give technical support a rating of 9/10.
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
We used Symantec Backup Exec and CA Arcserve. We changed because there was a lack of features specific for a virtualization environment. Arcserve has a complex way to backup Exchange.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
The price is adequate for the quality of the product. There are several editions/licenses that start from basic functionality (Standard Edition) to the edition that includes maximum integration (Enterprise Plus). I would recommend considering at least the Enterprise Edition.
Which other solutions did I evaluate?
We try to use both Symantec Backup Exec and CA Arcserve.
What other advice do I have?
Only consider the Availability Suite if you need to monitor your virtual environment within backup processes and you have nothing implemented on it.
Disclosure: My company has a business relationship with this vendor other than being a customer: My company is a Reseller Silver Partner and Cloud Provider Silver partner.
Nice review. An appliance would be awesome but not sure if that is a direction they will go. Version 10 which was announced at VeeamON listed NAS backups as a new feature as I was there.
Senior IT Engineer at a tech services company with 51-200 employees
With WAN acceleration, we send less data through our WAN lines. The reporting tool shows the status of the infrastructure.
What is most valuable?
- The quality of compression and deduplication is better than other products.
- The WAN acceleration allows us to send less data through our WAN lines.
- The easiness of the suite.
- The reporting tool, Veeam One, is very powerful and helps obtain a clear view of the infrastructure situation.
How has it helped my organization?
Let me start by mentioning that, before Veeam, my company used to backup data with Microsoft Robocopy. Backup times now are more than ten times faster and the data to be moved is only a fraction.
This behaviour has been improved with the new version, 9.5.
What needs improvement?
Determining the space for the WAN acceleration server sometimes is hard, especially if you have many source sites for the data. I would like to have a kind of storage space calculator that gives me an estimate for the size of the WAN accelerator server we are creating; give it a list of VMs to be backed up.
I am requesting this because the standard rules in the Veeam End User Guide often resulted in us making a wrong calculation, especially for the target WAN acceleration machine. The result was many failed backups due to "no more space" errors! And creating a VM that is "too big” wastes precious space (the opposite of what we want to achieve).
For how long have I used the solution?
I have used Veeam Backup & Replication and Endpoint Backup for three years and the full suite for six months.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
Usually the program works well and it's stable.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
I think the resource request (storage space) for the whole suite (usually on a complex environment) is slightly high, especially the WAN accelerators. In any case, it is pretty scalable.
How are customer service and technical support?
Technical support is 7/10. Sometimes, it asks for logs and keeps asking for information that sometimes is unnecessary. This causes it to take a long time to understand the real problem and to obtain the solution.
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
I previously used Backup Exec, the Acronis suite and many others, but Veeam was clearly better; that is the reason why I switched.
How was the initial setup?
We needed more than a month to set up a stable and working installation: first, because I did not know well some of the deep functions of the suite; and second, because to get the best results from Veeam, you need to build a complex network of machines.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
Pricing is a bit high from my experience and licensing can be improved; my company is a holding company and we had problems using licenses for sites around the world in the HQ server. (It's not allowed; we had to merge all the licenses into one big one.)
Which other solutions did I evaluate?
We saw more than a 10% compression ratio compared to Acronis Backup 11.5 tested earlier. I did it in March 2016 with a sample of 20 virtual machines and helped me complete a thorough test between various candidates (Veeam and Acronis were the finalists).
Based on my experiences with other backup software, we headed straight for this option.
What other advice do I have?
Do some (at least) high-level training for the suite: If you don't want to waste time with many attempts during the installation, the best option is to understand the fundamentals of the Veeam suite.
My impression is that this suite is usually reliable and very powerful.
Disclosure: I am a real user, and this review is based on my own experience and opinions.
Nice review. Veeam is a great product and when upgrading to the ENT+ license allows more features. We use Nimble integration mainly. I will have to check the WAN acceleration to see how this can help us too.
President & CEO at a tech services company
One of the most important features is the self-restart feature which we use to provide remote backups.
What is most valuable?
One of the most important features of Veeam is the excellent self-restart feature. We use Veeam to provide remote backups for us as well as our customers. Many times a communications glitch will occur that will disrupt the backup process during the offsite backup procedure. The product will automatically restart the process and continue self-monitoring and restarting until the backup is complete and also notify our support staff of its status. This self-restart feature also works very well on the local backups should a rare error situation occur.
Another feature that is important to us is Veeams virtual server restart feature. This allows us to quickly restart a virtual sever. This feature provides an almost immediate server restart should a calamity occur.
Another great feature is the ability to backup only the changed files/blocks. This results in very fast backups once the initial backup is done. Compression is also excellent with the Veeam product. This saves space on the target drive and as well as time on the data transmission process. This is very important during offsite backups. Lastly, a great feature is the encryption protection on the backups that protects data during the offsite backup process.
How has it helped my organization?
It has greatly reduced the man power required to monitor the backup process. Coupled with the email notification feature, the BDR services that we offer can be managed by one person and subject matter knowledge can easily be transferred to another technician without extensive training.
What needs improvement?
We would like to see a product that supports Linux, however, we believe that this support is already in the works.
For how long have I used the solution?
We have used Veeam for about two years at our facility as well as at our customers facilities.
What was my experience with deployment of the solution?
We have had no issues with the deployment so far as multi-site WAN acceleration works out of the box, and so far we've been very happy with our experience
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
There have been no performance issues.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
We currently backup many TBs of data without any problem.
How are customer service and technical support?
Customer Service:
The level of customer support is excellent.
Technical Support:The support personnel are very articulate, knowledgeable, easy to understand, and provide a quick turn around on our questions.
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
We have tried several other products and none were as good as Veeam. One competing product caught fire. Another product was not reliable on local or remote backups, and the other was extremely overpriced with low quality hardware, buggy software, low quality support, and low reliability.
How was the initial setup?
It should be installed by a IT professional who understands security, backups and bandwidth. However, this applies to any company that wants to establish a rock sold BDR process. Before the implementation is started be sure to map out the data that is to be backed up, calculate the bandwidth, disk space, and time required to do the initial backup. Next, set up the local backup first and get it running properly. Then, set up the first initial offsite backup remembering that the first offsite backup may take several days. After that, the offsite backups will run very quickly.
What about the implementation team?
We provide BDR services so we learned Veeam and installed it ourselves.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
Pricing of Veeam is excellent and is an excellent value proposition for both partners and customers.
Which other solutions did I evaluate?
I have used and evaluated many backup and recovery solutions. Veeam came out on top for ease of use, reliability of job execution, backup validation, and speed of recovery in virtual environments.
What other advice do I have?
Veeam has been the best BDR product that we have ever used. Although it does require some expertise to set it up correctly, once it is set up it runs perfectly. Use an experienced Veeam company or consultant or spend time learning the product. It is very worthwhile
Spend time to plan resources, bandwidth, etc. before installing the Veeam. Watch the Veeam process carefully in the first few weeks in order to learn what it does. It has a wide array of features so make sure you learn how to perform the various types of restores (e.g. virtual server restore, single file restore, etc.). Take advantage of the ability to provide local and remote backups and configure both for the target environment. What is very important, as in all BDR environments, is to regularly do a test restore of a few files to make sure that the backups and restores are working properly.
Disclosure: My company has a business relationship with this vendor other than being a customer: We are a Veeam partner and very happy to be working with them. They have been and continue to be a very valuable partner.
It is possible to recover what you lost to scam brokers but most people don’t know this because they are either not informed or they have been conned by a recovery expert. The truth is there are only a few people who can pull this off and I was lucky to meet with one of them. If you need help with this I suggest sending a mail to (WIZESAFETYRECOVERY @ GMAIL COM) … they are 100% legit.
This is the only way to recover lost funds, there are a lot of bad eggs online so you are lucky if you are in touch with the right one. I was lucky and you can be too (WIZESAFETYRECOVERY @ GMAIL COM) is the contact you should send an email too, so there’s no reason to get scared after losing your funds to scammers!
