We chose SkySQL because Snowflake is used only for reporting and does not have a transactional layer. Previously, we used a SQL Server database before migrating to SkySQL. We load transactional data first because SkySQL is fully managed in the cloud, eliminating concerns about scalability or performance. We often receive high volumes of transactions from applications, which made SkySQL an ideal choice. After loading all transactional data into SkySQL, we convert that data into aggregate formats for further reporting.

As a data engineer, the most valuable aspect is not having to worry about scalability or performance. I can focus on the actual data itself: whether it is dirty or clean, and what transformations I need to apply. I work on the actual data rather than on infrastructure tasks related to servers.

All our applications are integrated with SkySQL only, and the integration capabilities are powerful. SkySQL can be integrated with a wide range of databases, cloud providers, and supports multiple frameworks, including NCP. Regarding security, it is highly secure because we conduct penetration testing before pushing data from applications to SkySQL.

When comparing SkySQL to other databases such as Databricks and Snowflake, these platforms offer more AI-related functionality and data lineage capabilities, allowing visibility of the complete data journey from source to target. SkySQL currently lacks data lineage functionality. Since we transform data using stored procedures and views, implementing data lineage functionality would help us track the complete journey of data from source through all intermediate transformation steps to the final layer. I rate SkySQL an eight out of ten.

Regarding SkySQL's AI capabilities, we are using the AI functionality to write SQL queries. Whenever we face issues with SQL queries that join multiple tables, we use the AI capability to fix errors automatically. This saves considerable time for data engineers.

The accuracy and reliability of SkySQL's AI output is quite consistent. We conducted a proof of concept comparing manually written SQL queries with queries generated by SkySQL's AI capabilities, and both approaches yielded the same results. This demonstrated that the AI functionality is highly accurate.

My advice to others evaluating SkySQL is that if you are primarily working on analytics, business intelligence, or reporting, other options such as Databricks or Snowflake may provide higher functionality related to analytics and GenAI. However, if you are working with a transactional database or seeking a platform to store transactional data, SkySQL is worth evaluating. I have rated this product an eight out of ten overall.

I support an asset performance management application that stores assets maintenance and operational data while enabling analytics reporting.

The most valuable features for asset management are its reliability and scalability, along with support for reporting and analytics. Its ecosystem and compatibility with managed services make it a stronger choice for enterprise applications.

Regarding scalability, we expect our data volume and user base to grow over time, so we need a database that can grow with the application while maintaining performance and availability.

Reliability is one of the main reasons we are evaluating SkySQL. We need consistent performance, high uptime, and strong data integrity. Based on our evaluation, it appears to be a stable platform that can meet those requirements. The ACID compliant transactions, replication backup recovery, and high availability options give us confidence that it can support business-critical workloads with minimal downtime.

We use SkySQL's advanced security features, which are an important consideration for us. We use or plan to use features such as authentication, role-based access, TLS encryption for data in transit, encryption for data at rest, regular backups, and audit logging where applicable. These features help us protect sensitive application data and meet our organization's security requirements.

More end-to-end deployment guides, additional reference architectures, dashboards, and more proactive performance tuning recommendations would make the platform even easier to adapt and manage. Better onboarding and more implementation support would be beneficial. For example, enhanced monitoring and alerting, clear performance optimization guidance, and more information on specific processes would be valuable.

I have been working with SkySQL for around 2.5 years.

We haven't used SkySQL's automated failover feature in a production environment yet, but it is one of the capabilities we are evaluating closely. High availability is a key requirement for our asset performance management application, and we expect automated failover to minimize downtime and reduce manual intervention during unexpected failures, which would improve the overall reliability of the platform.

Since we are evaluating SkySQL, we haven't realized the full benefits of its hybrid and multicloud capabilities yet. However, we see them as valuable because they provide deployment flexibility and help avoid vendor lock-in. They also make it easier to align the database platform with our organization's cloud strategy and support future migration or expansion if our infrastructure needs change. For an asset performance management application, this flexibility could be beneficial as our environment grows.

We are still in the evaluation phase regarding flexibility, and we haven't used the data interface extensively yet. The standard SQL interface and compatibility with existing tools are important advantages that should make it easier for our developers and database administrators to query data and make data manipulation more efficient.

I have communicated with the technical support of SkySQL. They were professional and responsive whenever we raised any questions, responding very quickly and efficiently.

For the same use case, we were using traditional databases for similar workloads rather than a managed database platform like SkySQL. However, I believe SkySQL is a better long-term fit for our asset performance management application.

We considered Amazon RDS for MySQL, Azure Database, and other cloud-managed database services as well. We evaluated them based on scalability, availability, security, compatibility with our existing environment, and total cost of ownership. Compared with all of these options, we concluded that SkySQL is one of the best solutions addressing those criteria.

The initial setup felt fairly straightforward, especially as a managed service.

Our process involved provisioning an evaluation instance, configuring basic security and connectivity, and testing key features such as scalability, monitoring, and availability. Overall, the setup seemed relatively straightforward because it is a managed service.

I would give a rating of 8 out of 10. SkySQL provides strong scalability for our needs, but we will continue to validate its performance as our data volume and user base grow.

Regarding metrics, we do not have any quantified business metrics to share yet because we are still in the evaluation phase. So far, our testing suggests that optimization and indexing capabilities can deliver good performance for transactional workloads and reporting. We may expect these features to improve application responsiveness and reduce query execution time as our asset management application grows. However, we will measure those benefits once we have production workloads.

The pricing appears reasonable for a managed database service, and I believe it is worth the money I am paying for it.

We haven't deployed the system in a way that allows us to quantify savings in terms of cost or time. However, we can expect the managed service to reduce database administration efforts. We anticipate some operational savings and reduced administration effort, but it is still early to quantify those benefits.

My main use case for SkySQL is to store and manage asset and site data for an industrial asset performance management application with support for analytics, reporting, and high availability.

SkySQL supports my asset performance management application by helping us build a solution that stores asset maintenance and operational data from multiple manufacturing sites. We need a managed, scalable, and highly available database to support dashboards, analytics, and day-to-day application transactions, and that is why we are evaluating SkySQL.

Our main use case is covered, and we are currently evaluating SkySQL to see whether it meets our scalability, availability, and operational requirements.

In my experience, the best feature that SkySQL offers is a fully managed database service which reduces operational overhead, along with its high availability and automatic failover for business-critical applications, and its scalability to handle growing data volumes and overloads, plus automated backups and disaster recovery capabilities. These are the key capabilities that make SkySQL attractive for an asset performance management application, but we are still validating them as part of our evaluation.

Since we are still evaluating SkySQL, we have already seen an impact, but as we are still in the evaluation phase, I cannot say any feature has had the biggest impact in production yet. The feature that is most important to us is high availability with automatic failover because our asset performance management application supports critical manufacturing operations.

Besides high availability and scalability, we are hoping to see simple administration and reliable performance. Also, since it is a managed service, we would like to minimize database maintenance, patching, and backup management so our team can focus more on developing the asset performance management application.

It is still early in our evaluation of SkySQL, so we do not have major concerns, but if anything, we would like to see even better documentation, onboarding guidance, and monitoring capabilities to make adoption and ongoing management easier.

During evaluation, having more end-to-end onboarding guides with real-world deployment examples would make it easier to validate different architectures. For monitoring, it would be helpful to have more out-of-the-box dashboards, proactive health alerts, and clear recommendations for performance tuning and capacity planning. Those improvements would help teams evaluate and operate the platform more efficiently.

I give SkySQL an eight out of ten instead of a nine or a seven because we are still in the evaluation phase, so I would like to gain more hands-on experience with deployment monitoring, performance under real workloads, and overall operational management before making a final judgment. We also see opportunities for enhanced onboarding guidance and more comprehensive out-of-the-box monitoring and performance recommendations.

We are considering Microsoft Azure and AWS before making a final decision about SkySQL, and we have not finalized the cloud provider yet, but we are considering Microsoft Azure and AWS. It is between the two, and I am not sure which one we are going to deploy.

I have been using SkySQL for a year now.

Other than that, SkySQL meets most of our requirements. Improved documentation, more customization options for the dashboard, and enhanced monitoring tools would make the overall experience even better.

Plan the migration carefully and test key workloads early to ensure smooth adoption. I would rate this product an eight out of ten.
