I assess the scalability of Scality RING based on my experience with versions 6, 7, 8, and now 9, noting that a lot of work has clearly been done since the first version I deployed. There's been real progress in that area from Scality. In my usage context, I'm quite satisfied overall. Not all clients will necessarily feel the same. Everyone has their own usage context and level of expertise, which affects how well they understand and maintain things. I've never had issues with scalability. We've done version upgrades without any problems—whether OS-related or with Scality RING itself. There's always room for improvement. I won't say it was 100% smooth every time—we sometimes had to debug a bit—but we always got the job done. Importantly, we never impacted the quality of service for our clients

I like UTIPI (Unified Tiered Infrastructure Per IOPS) feature in billing. Another feature I like is the life cycle management that helps me with data storage efficiency. I like that there is no storage limit in Scality RING. There's no inherent storage limit. Even big companies with many users can reach the practical limits of the system.

It's a software-defined storage that utilizes S3. The multi-scale architecture has influenced our approach to scaling by allowing scalability in storage, throughput, metadata, and the compute part. The separation of metadata from object data in Scality RING is beneficial because it separates capacity, ensuring that all small objects go to fast disks such as SSDs, which leads to improved performance. The main benefits I have seen from using Scality RING in my environment include its standardization for all IT with S3 technologies and its popularity, providing substantial visibility in our services such as YouTube. The difference with other cloud technologies is significant because with large files, Scality RING performs very well; using S3 technology is the same, but using file storage technology yields lower performance. Scality RING is more stable and performs better than before; we don't experience issues from mechanical failures, only from human intervention. Its ability to offer cyber resilience against ransomware threats is very good, but it's not very important for us since we only operate on a private network with no internet link. What I appreciate about Scality RING is the French tech, which is important for administration. It's a big startup with a family mentality, making it easy to exchange and share advice and opinions. Managing large volumes of data with Scality RING's user interface is easier than before. We are satisfied with Scality RING's flexibility to handle modern workloads with AI and backups. Scality RING's flexibility has been beneficial for optimizing cloud deployments, as it is good and easy to deploy with S3.
