What is our primary use case?
I use
Microsoft Defender for Business primarily for endpoint security for the devices. I also use it for the Cloud Access Security Broker (
CASB) to get information and recommendations on applications used by employees and for Defender for email, particularly in Outlook.
What is most valuable?
The most valuable features of
Microsoft Defender for Business include its
CASB capabilities, which help to identify applications that employees are using, and its endpoint security that protects devices. I appreciate the content filtering and
Data Loss Prevention (DLP) features, which work very well. These features provide comprehensive security and valuable insights into application usage and threats.
What needs improvement?
The areas where Microsoft Defender for Business could improve include the support, installation process, and wiki. I should be able to find solutions to issues quickly without having to delve too deep. Simplifying the installation process would also make it more user-friendly compared to other endpoint solutions.
For how long have I used the solution?
I have been working with Microsoft Defender for Business for more than three years.
What was my experience with deployment of the solution?
I have faced many challenges with Defender, especially during the installation and configuration stages. Diagnosing and fixing configuration issues requires checking error messages and making adjustments based on those. The complexity of the installation is a significant challenge.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
I would rate the stability of the solution as a seven. Although it generally works, there are occasional issues and errors that sometimes require a complete system format to rectify.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
After installation, Microsoft Defender for Business is one of the strongest endpoints, especially if you use
Microsoft Azure or on-premise configurations. However, it is crucial to choose a solution that fits all the technologies that a company uses.
How are customer service and support?
The technical support of Microsoft Defender for Business is lacking. Microsoft responds but not timely enough, often taking one day or more to connect with a partner or to address an issue. Faster support is needed for endpoint security solutions.
How would you rate customer service and support?
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
I have previously worked with other endpoint protection solutions such as CrowdStrike and
Sentinel. They provide comprehensive onboarding and support, unlike Microsoft.
How was the initial setup?
The initial setup of Microsoft Defender for Business is complex and not user-friendly. Deployment could take a day, and understanding the full power of Defender requires a significant level of expertise.
What was our ROI?
The value I see in Microsoft Defender for Business is in its ability to track and respond to application usage and security threats through its
CASB and automation features, which are cost-beneficial.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
Microsoft Defender for Business offers the best pricing option in the market and is very cost-effective.
Which other solutions did I evaluate?
I evaluated solutions like CrowdStrike and
Sentinel, which provide better onboarding and installation support.
What other advice do I have?
Anyone using Microsoft Defender for Business should be aware that although the installation process is complex, once completed within a Microsoft environment, it provides comprehensive coverage. I rate the overall solution a nine out of 10.
