My organization relies on it to protect critical workloads for insurance compliance and recover quickly from cyber incidents, such as ransomware or other vulnerabilities.

During a ransomware incident in the past, my team used Dell Data Protection Suite to validate recovery speeds and resilience. The suite's anomaly detection flagged unusual activity on backup data streams, which helped us confirm that the system would catch early signs of compromise. When we tested recovery, RecoveryPoint for VMs allowed us to roll back to a clean point in time with the snapshot within minutes.

Dell Data Protection Suite is the most effective solution for my needs.

The best features include comprehensive backup recovery across hybrid environments, supporting physical, virtual, and cloud workloads with tools that ensure fast, efficient restores across diverse environments.

The flexibility in supporting physical, virtual, and cloud workloads has been a real advantage for us. We had a legacy physical database workload running on-premises alongside a newer cloud application in Azure. Traditionally, we would have needed separate tools to protect each environment, which would have meant extra overhead and complexity.

Dell Data Protection Suite has positively impacted our organization by strengthening resilience, simplifying operations, and reducing downtime. Fast recovery is a key positive outcome, as RecoveryPoint for VMs allows us to restore critical workloads to a clean point in time with snapshots within minutes, minimizing downtime during incidents.

The accuracy and reliability of the output from Dell Data Protection Suite's AI are generally high, especially concerning anomaly detection and compliance reporting.

Dell Data Protection Suite could be improved in a few areas based on real-world use. A more intuitive UI would be beneficial, as the management console is powerful but can feel overwhelming. A cleaner interface with guided workflows would help new users get up to speed faster.

Customer support is great, as it is very easy to create different cases and quick to solve issues.

I did not previously use a different solution.

I think about the time saved when considering whether I have seen a return on investment.

My experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing is mixed, as I need to be aware of these details when implementing the solution. The first time I deploy, I need to know about these topics.

Before choosing Dell Data Protection Suite, I evaluated other options, such as Veeam Backup and Azure Backup, but I prefer Dell Data Protection Suite because it is a more comprehensive solution.

Dell Data Protection Suite's AI governance and security are designed to ensure that automation is both trustworthy and compliant while keeping sensitive data protected. The governance strengths include policy enforcement and continuous compliance rules across workloads, embedding governance into daily operations rather than treating it as a separate audit task.

When it comes to downtime and recovery speed, even a rough estimate shows a low impact. In one incident where we had a critical VM fail, we were able to restore within RecoveryPoint for VM in under 30 minutes, compared to the four to six hours it used to take with older tools.

I recommend this solution because it is the most complete tool in the market. Dell Data Protection Suite is a faster and excellent solution.

Dell Data Protection Suite will be mainly used for backup and recovery solutions.

With the direct integration with PowerProtect Data Domain, we can achieve a 55 to one data reduction or deduplication ratio. The native integration with our backup software, which is included in Dell Data Protection Suite with Data Domain, gives an advantage to customers to deduplicate data, so they will have less space, less data to manage, and a smaller data footprint.

Dell Data Protection Suite includes multiple tools that help customers achieve their disaster recovery plan, their RPOs and RTOs. First, it includes RecoverPoint for VMs, which is specialized for VMware workloads to do live replication between two sites to achieve an active-active or an active-passive data center. On top of that, in each Data Domain, we have multiple features to have an offsite copy of your backup environment, either by cloud or by replicating to another Data Domain. This can be another domain physically located on the DR site, or it can be a virtual one running on the cloud as well.

One of the main features about any backup software is the ability to create policies that depend on the customer's requirement, such as how often you need to do backups and how long you need to retain the backup copies. These are flexible options from our dashboard to configure these things so they can comply with customer requirements. Some of the policies may specify that data needs to be retained on the production Data Domain, which is the on-premises Data Domain, for maybe one month. After that, an additional copy needs to be created and replicated to the offsite, which can be retained for maybe one year or two years. This is configurable based on something called data sets.

Automated workflows mean that from an operational perspective, we have the ability to replicate the data directly from the backup software, which can be Networker or PowerProtect Data Manager. When you create the policy, you can specify that these copies should reside with the first Data Domain, and then you can replicate one of these copies to the DR site, which is managed by our backup software itself. When you do the restore, the software will understand how many copies you have in your first Data Domain on-premises on the production main site, and how many copies are available in the DR site.

The analytics tool is very important to give us insights about how the device actually behaves. It provides performance metrics, capacity utilization, and the deduplication ratio. All of this actually gives us telemetry to be collected from the appliances and from the backup tools and sent to the dashboard, which can create alarms and events to the customer to understand what the current utilization of their environment is.

From a data protection perspective, Dell is moving away from Dell Data Protection Suite to focus on PowerProtect Data Manager. The idea here is the silos kind of architecture because Dell Data Protection Suite includes multiple engines inside, and these can all be consolidated by Data Protection Central. However, at the end of the day, the customer still needs to go into details in each of these software depending on their environment and do some configurations. However, this depends on the customer requirement. A customer with a complex environment with multiple workloads may find that a single tool cannot cover everything. That is why we have multiple tools under the same licensing umbrella to make sure we are covering all customer workloads, including traditional applications, physical servers, and next-generation applications.

Improvement is happening now because they are moving to a mixed generation platform which is trying to cover whatever use cases there are.

I have used this solution for more than 10 years.

The solution is stable when it is implemented in the right way.

Scalability is present. We can scale enough without limitations.

I would rate the support as eight out of ten. The support quality depends on what kind of problems are happening, which is why it is difficult to comment much on it in general.

The ROI normally will be mentioned from the total IT infrastructure. We need this kind of solution to make sure that in case something happens, we are not spending a lot of money to recover the data. If you have the right products in place with data recoverability, data protection strategies, and cyber resiliency strategy, customers can depend on this solution to recover their data rather than spending a lot of time and money paying ransomware to restore their data.

Dell Data Protection Suite is a comprehensive product with comprehensive tools. When you sell it, sometimes customers are not using all the tools, but the customer will have availability of these tools to cover more workloads that cannot be supported by other tools. Dell Data Protection Suite includes PowerProtect Data Manager, Networker, and Avamar. Avamar is now in flight. We have included all these tools. Avamar specializes for certain workloads where it can perform better on that workload. When we speak about tape outs, we can do it natively with Networker, which is not included by PowerProtect Data Manager and Avamar. If you have workloads with KVM or Nutanix hypervisor, we have a specified tool for that, and it will be coming to be pre-integrated with PowerProtect Data Manager. We used to have the tool V-Protect, which will now be replaced with PowerProtect Data Manager natively supporting EHP from Nutanix. The whole idea behind it is that the complexity of the backup solutions and the complexity of the data center is reflected in how you protect this data center. That is why customers may not have one backup software for everything. If you need to integrate with a certain kind of applications with hot backups, image-level backup, and granular restore, customers may need to look at different tools for this. Now they are trying to consolidate whatever they can on PowerProtect Data Manager as the next-generation backup tool.

This solution requires skills and is not customer installable. Partners or deployment partners need to have the right certification to implement it.

I would rate this review as a seven out of ten overall.

My main use case for Dell Data Protection Suite revolves around working with Dell Data Domain environments for several years in enterprise backup and recovery operations. The best features Dell Data Protection Suite offers in my experience include Data Domain integration, efficient deduplication, replication for disaster recovery, and the ability to protect different types of workloads from a centralized platform. These capabilities help to improve backup efficiency, reduce storage requirements, and support reliable recovery when it is needed.

Data Domain integration is one of the biggest strengths of Dell Data Protection Suite. It combines efficient deduplication, scalable backup storage, and replication for disaster recovery. In my experience, it helps to reduce storage consumption while ensuring reliable backup retention and fast recovery when data needs to be restored.

Dell Data Protection Suite has positively impacted my organization by providing improved backup efficiency and operational reliability. The integration with Data Domain reduces storage requirements, supports application to secondary sites, and helps us to ensure the data is available when recovery is needed. For enterprise environments, this translates into better resilience, scalability, and confidence in the overall data protection strategy.

From my end experience, the biggest impact of Dell Data Protection Suite has been operational efficiency and storage optimization. The Data Domain deduplication helps us to reduce our storage consumption while replication improves disaster recovery preparedness. Although it is difficult to quantify exact savings, we have been able to manage large backup environments, meaning petabytes, more efficiently and with great confidence in our ability to recover critical data when recovery is needed.

Dell Data Protection Suite is strong overall, but I would like to see more AI-powered insights, proactive health recommendations, and enhanced reporting. Simplifying management across hybrid and multi-cloud environments and providing deeper operational visibility would make the platform even more efficient, for example, using Data Domain management systems or something similar.

Regarding needed improvements for Dell Data Protection Suite, I think support must be upgraded. The website for Dell is very confusing to open a case and find devices, and this must be improved with AI power.

Dell Data Protection Suite is quite stable.

The scalability of Dell Data Protection Suite is a very important part of this kind of environment, especially for enterprises, and I would rate it as very high. Dell Data Protection Suite can protect a broad range of workloads across premises and multi-cloud environments, and the integration with Data Domain helps to accommodate growing backup volumes efficiently, scaling well as business and data protection requirements evolve.

As I mentioned regarding customer support, I see the need for improvement in some website features, but overall, it is positively satisfactory. They provide knowledgeable technical resources and good assistance during troubleshooting through calls and emails. The response and resolution times can vary in some cases of complexity, but my overall experience has been good.

Previously, we used an IBM tape solution before switching to Dell Data Protection Suite, as it was moved for a customer decision.

My advice for others looking into using Dell Data Protection Suite is to clearly define their recovery rotation goals before implementation. Additionally, taking advantage of the integration with Dell Data Domain can improve storage efficiency and scalability. Regular tests of your recovery procedures are essential to ensure the platform is delivering the level of resilience your business requires. I rate this review an eight out of ten.

When looking at data growth and traditional backup solutions are not up to the mark while recovering data specifically, Dell Data Protection Suite is a fair choice, as people are willing to have a solution which is more efficient, faster, and in terms of backups, scheduling as well as recovery. We have it mainly in an on-premises environment, and for one of the customers, we have a hybrid model. For the customer in the hybrid environment, they are using AWS.

The biggest advantage of Dell Data Protection Suite stands out to be the compression rate, along with features like deduplication and the Vault feature, especially in terms of ransomware protection, where Dell Data Protection Suite was one of the first to offer the Vault protection-based solution.

Disaster recovery capabilities are one of the key features of Dell Data Protection Suite, and in case of any disaster, recovery is a key factor while having a disaster, as Dell Data Protection Suite is one of the most efficient storage solutions that provide these features to get the recovery done with the click of a button.

Policy-driven protection is very important for maintaining data integrity and compliance.

In terms of compliance, if companies have retention policies, Dell Data Protection Suite helps, and integrity is ensured through multiple checks provided by the suite.

Automated workflows drive seamless automation and definitely help in the data protection strategy.

Analytics tools are something that should be on top of any tool, including Dell Data Protection Suite, as they keep a bird's-eye view of how data protection is working and assess the overall data health.

Regarding areas for improvement in Dell Data Protection Suite, the only thing is that there is a price premium for every product, but otherwise, as far as the product is concerned, it is excellent.

Most of the native software support is there in Dell Data Protection Suite, and I do not think there are a lot of improvements needed regarding features.

It has been 10 years now since I started using Dell Data Protection Suite.

I do not think there should be any glitches if it is perfectly sized, so I do not see anything of these types.

There are no limitations; it is very easy to scale.

There is always a provision of improvement in technical support from Dell; in some cases, there is a level of improvement required, but Dell support services are top-notch.

Improvement could be done with response time; quality of support is top-notch, no question in that.

If I had to rate my satisfaction with support from Dell, I would give them a nine.

Dell Data Protection Suite is an enterprise-grade solution, so you have to be capable enough to install and deploy it; anyone who has certified and well-versed resources can handle it.

Dell Data Protection Suite has a premium because it is a value-for-money product, providing end-to-end data surety and a lesser footprint of data while backing up.

It is possible to quantify the benefits of Dell Data Protection Suite, but honestly, I have not done so much math, so I cannot give you the specific number.

When comparing Dell Data Protection Suite with Huawei and other competitors, the first-mover advantage and strong R&D of Dell play a huge role, particularly in the safety and cyber resilience features offered by Dell Data Protection Suite, which I still think the competition lacks.

As far as company roles are concerned, it has been the partner of Dell, and my role has been consultant, pre-sales consultant as well as sales.

I believe 9.5 is a fair rating for Dell Data Protection Suite, and nine is fine as a solid rating. My overall review rating for Dell Data Protection Suite is 9.

The learning curve is relatively steep, the complexity of some advanced configurations is challenging, and the interface could be more intuitive. Overall, Dell Data Protection Suite is very robust and scalable, but it requires training for the IT team.

The licensing cost increases as the environment grows. The complexity of administration means that a minimally qualified team is required, and the interface could be more intuitive. Overall, the solution is very good, especially at the enterprise level.

The scalability of Dell Data Protection Suite is very good, and it can be scaled in a relatively smooth way. The only issue is the licensing cost.

Customer support in general takes some time to respond and to resolve tickets, but it is effective and really helps solve the problem.

No other solution was used previously.

The best savings have been in time saved to recover laptops and servers when critical failures occur, whether due to hardware or malware, ransomware, and similar issues. The essential point is its reliability and fast recovery of information from corporate equipment.

Acronis was also evaluated. Acronis also has a somewhat high cost, but given the package that Dell delivers in its suite, Dell Data Protection Suite was ultimately chosen.

Support takes some time, depending on the contract with Dell. Overall, it is a solution that serves medium and large companies at the enterprise level, and it really solves the problem it proposes to solve. Additionally, it has the Dell brand, which gives the solution positive weight.

It is a solution that has added value and is more suitable for medium and large companies. There is a licensing cost that is somewhat high in my opinion.

Considering environments that already use Dell equipment, and considering medium and large companies that have a budget to invest in this solution, it is indeed worth it. I would rate this solution a nine out of ten.

I use Dell Data Protection Suite as our storage appliance and backup platform. I may not be able to disclose specifics because of the nature of our business, but that is the primary function.

Dell Data Protection Suite has helped manage our storage costs wonderfully, as we were able to achieve up to 10.56 times deduplication.

I find it beneficial for our backup and recovery tests when focusing on storage of our data, and it works quite effectively.

We have automated all of our workflows, so we are able to automate repetitive tasks.

Since I am still new in this environment, I have yet to check on features or functionalities that I would like to see included in the future or enhanced in some way and may share feedback later.

I would like to see the visibility of the data improved and enhanced in Dell Data Protection Suite.

I joined recently and have been working with Dell Data Protection Suite for approximately six to seven months.

In terms of performance reliability, I believe it is very stable and reliable.

We have escalated questions to the technical support or customer service team of Dell before, and they were sufficiently and reliably resolved.

On a scale of one to ten, where ten is the best, I would rate the technical support as eight.

So far, they are satisfactory in terms of what I would like to see improved in technical support.

Prior to adopting Dell Data Protection Suite, I did use a different product for backup and recovery.

I previously used Veeam Backup & Replication, and we also use Commvault.

I think the key differences, both pros and cons of Dell Data Protection Suite in comparison to Veeam and Commvault technologies, is the immutability aspect; I am still trying to understand the immutability aspect of Dell Data Protection Suite.

For now, I find that Commvault and Veeam are stronger in that aspect.

From the analytics point of view, we are yet to implement analytics tools at the moment, and we are still in the process.

At the moment, we do not have Kubernetes in place, which are key benefits that Dell Data Protection Suite brings to the table.

Once you confirm the immutability aspect, we can share with other organizations what we have learned so far about the product's reliability.

My overall review rating for Dell Data Protection Suite is 6.5 out of 10.

Dell Data Protection Suite brings support for a broad range of different platforms that it can protect. The integration with PowerProtect Data Domain, which is our application appliance, is also valuable.

Data Domain is a quite popular solution, so this support for different platforms and integration with the Data Domain appliance helps me in my work because it is easier to offer it to our partners and customers since it is a well-known solution.

It is difficult to say how Dell Data Protection Suite has impacted my organization positively because we are a solution distributor, so we work on many different solutions. We do not use it in our infrastructure. We rather offer it to our partners and customers.

Many of our customers and partners are very satisfied because using Dell Data Protection Suite or Data Domain allows them to manage their backups in a smooth way and gain significant savings in storage area because the deduplication of Data Domain is really effective.

The impact of Dell Data Protection Suite on storage savings or smooth management depends on how the deduplication factor applies to the type of data that a customer is processing. One of our partners reported even about 300% space saving due to the usage of deduplication.

Dell Data Protection Suite could provide support for more virtualization platforms. This would be very useful, especially the open-source platforms which are not fully supported in this product.

The usability and the existing integrations of Dell Data Protection Suite are very well done, and this is a great advantage for it.

Dell DPS provides both appliance-based and disk-based protection solutions, which include hardware and software integration. While Dell DPS is a powerful solution, it is expensive, which allows competitors to find their place in the market. The deployment is complex and not simplified, requiring professional expertise. 

Additionally, there are issues with initial setup, particularly network speed and latency, which can cause disruption. Once configured, it is easy to manage, but training is necessary due to the technical complexity.

I have been using it for five years now.

Overall, the Dell DPS provides efficient performance when properly integrated with other infrastructures. It is effective, but the initial integration might present technical challenges.

Dell DPS hardware is scalable, and multiple data domain storage boxes are offered by Dell for storage expansion.

The support is excellent, with on-ground people and a well-established partner ecosystem providing assistance. Dell requires partners to have technical capabilities and be certified to offer their products.

The initial setup is complex and requires a professional team. Training is mandatory to ensure proper configuration and management.

A professional team is necessary for the initial installation and deployment due to the complexity of the system. One person alone may not be sufficient, and expert personnel are required, especially for enterprise-grade deployments.

Dell Data Protection Suite justifies its ROI in cases of disaster by ensuring data availability and preventing losses in time and data. The solution promptly provides data availability to customers during primary infrastructure issues.

The solution is very expensive, which is its main drawback compared to competition in the market.

Other backup solutions I'm aware of include Veeam, NetWorker, and Symantec.

Training is essential to avoid operational disasters because these systems are complex and involve core infrastructure processes.

I'd rate the solution ten out of ten.
