Ensures our data is virus-free and protected from ransomware
While Dell DPS is a powerful solution, it is expensive, which allows competitors to find their place in the market. The deployment is complex and not simplified, requiring professional expertise. Additionally, there are issues with initial setup, particularly network speed and latency, which can cause disruption. Once configured, it is easy to manage, but training is necessary due to the technical complexity.

Has supported flexible multi-platform backups and improved over time
Regarding the effectiveness of Dell NetWorker in terms of role-based access controls, I have experience with it, but I find it somewhat lacking in flexibility as it offers limited features, and I would rate it around seven out of ten. It is not that there is something wrong with the role-based access controls in Dell NetWorker, but it lacks many permissions or roles to assign, providing options only for administrator or user. To improve Dell NetWorker for the next release, I recommend enhancing flexibility in the policy, allowing selection of multiple options within the same policy, and addressing issues like the DNS lookup dependency to make it more controllable from Dell NetWorker itself rather than relying on other applications. Looking forward, I would like to see improved policy features and a more enhanced GUI, as it is still slow.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"Dell Data Protection Suite is a comprehensive suite offering virus-free and ransomware-free data protection."
"I'd rate the solution ten out of ten."
"Dell NetWorker allows for extensive customization, supporting various open-source databases like PostgreSQL."
"The initial setup is simple."
"Because of the duplication feature, we were able to save a significant amount of storage space."
"It is the best umbrella, serving the best applications."
"For a file system backup or one that is on disk or in a tape library, or for virtualization, I recommend using NetWorker because of ease of deployment, ease of use, and the user-friendly GUI."
"Dell EMC NetWorker integrates well with our domain and the performance is quite good on-premise. We receive approximately 1 terabyte within one hour."
"The support of Dell EMC NetWorker is very good."
"When you reach out to your maximum license availability, or you exceed your license limit, NetWorker never stops doing your backups."

Cons

"While Dell DPS is a powerful solution, it is expensive, which allows competitors to find their place in the market."
"While Dell DPS is a powerful solution, it is expensive, which allows competitors to find their place in the market. The deployment is complex and not simplified, requiring professional expertise."
"The solution could improve by having more integration."
"The licensing cost is somewhat expensive."
"The stability of the NMC could use some attention, as it tends to be a bit shaky during jobs and other operations."
"The UI needs some enhancement to be more user-friendly."
"It is not easy to understand and deploy. It is complex in nature. Simplicity is not there. When we deploy it, the customer always needs some training from us. To make it user friendly, there should be one agent that can be used to back up every product. Dell EMC NetWorker uses so many user agents. In PowerProtect Data Manager, you can just install its VM, import that VM into vCenter, and you can start to do backups directly from vCenter. However, in Dell EMC NetWorker, you always need one server, and from that server, you need to initiate all backups. You must know the interface and the CLI. It is not user friendly. It would be a great feature if we can deploy Dell EMC NetWorker on a virtual machine, like Avamar. The additional features that are required in Dell EMC NetWorker are already available in PowerProtect Data Manager and Avamar. Therefore, there is no need to enhance Dell EMC NetWorker. It would be better if they can just rename it to PowerProtect Data Manager or Avamar."
"The interface is the same, so when we are trying to troubleshoot the logs, it doesn't display properly."
"NetWorker’s code needs improvement. There are so many bugs in each version, so I have to wait until the last cumulative hotfix of each service pack is released, to be sure that I will not affect production and create more work for myself."
"We would like support for tape space reclaim, using either the same or another pool."

Pricing and Cost Advice

Information not available
"The solution follows a subscription model for licensing. We pay annually to use the solution and the price is high."
"Pricing is cheaper for this product, compared to its competitors."
"The price of the license could be cheaper and it would be a benefit if they came up with a new pricing model. The competitors here in Oman sell universal licensing where a number of virtual machines are hosted at the customer place which can be licensed, or you can license the CPU sockets in those servers. However, NetWorker offers only CPU sockets or overall storage capacity to backup, but there is no universal licensing where you can provide a number of VMs. They should offer more options to stay competitive with other solutions, such as Veeam."
"The price is a little on the high side, but it's reliable and provides a good service."
"On a scale from one to ten, where one is cheap and ten is expensive, I rate the solution's pricing an eight out of ten."
"The pricing of this solution is very good."
"The licensing model can be traditional licensing or capacity-based licensing."
"Low cost is key."
