Quotes From Members
We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"The main benefit is that it's inexpensive. We get a lot for a little bit of money. I'm very happy with the savings and with the features. It allows me to do everything I need.""The compression, encryption and deduplication features are fabulous and great stuff.""It's easy to restore.""The most valuable feature is its ability to copy quickly. We have about 12 terabytes, and trying to copy that volume size through the file structure would take a week. BDRSuite has a different approach to copying and is much faster.""The scalability is good. It can scale. Adding a new server to a foreign location is easy.""Their technical support is very good to work with, as they are able to propose alternate solutions to problems that work well for us.""It makes it possible for us to back up our Unix machines without installing a host, client, or any client software. It gives us some peace of mind in regards to those servers getting backed up.""We use it to maintain critical data and save it."

"The ease of use for the graphical interface and the ease of installation are the most valuable features of this solution.""What I found most valuable in Veeam Agent for Linux is that it can unify machines and even simplify management.""It's most compatible with VMware. It can restore single files instead of having to restore the whole machine, once again leading to savings for the company.""The initial setup was straightforward. It's not complicated. It takes around half an hour to implement, but it depends on the performance of the server that you are installing the backup software on.""The most valuable feature is the ability to pick up individual files.""The technical support is good.""Veeam Agent for Linux's most valuable feature is the compatibility with virtual machines, such as VMware.""The flexibility and user-friendliness of Veeam make it very IT operations-friendly."

Cons
"It is not a well-known software. People do not know about Vembu.""The support is a bit slow in resolving an issue. It takes a long time to recover.""We are still exploring its features, but we want to see more features that we desire over time.""The product is co-branded, not white-labeled.""The dashboard should more interactive.""We have not been able to move our backups from one drive to another one. We can only create a storage pool. However, if we want to change a drive, it is not possible to delete one drive as long there is data on it. For this, we have to call the support. While they can solve this, it is not out-of-the-box.""I have seen that the BDRSuite user interface can be less intuitive and more challenging to navigate compared to other similar products.""They can work on their cloud solution. In these days, the data becomes too much and you have to back up a lot of data to the site. They could offer cheaper storage to their clients with the cloud, making this a single source of truth solution. In our project, we are using two service providers: One who offers our storage and another who offers the software. If they work on their cloud solution and can offer their clients lower prices for this type of storage, this would be a really good improvement."

More BDRSuite Cons →

"In terms of the physical environment, I'd like them to integrate it with other kinds of solutions. We don't just work with Microsoft or Linux, but other kinds of infrastructure data as well.""One problem in Veeam Agent for Linux is that you can't use your license for all your machines because you don't have a virtual machine, so if you're going to add machines and scale, you'd need to pay extra.""In the next version, I would like to see an increase in the locations online. I have found that other products have good pickup location.""We are currently waiting for the continuous backup process.""Technical support could be improved.""Scalability, if you are talking about Linux, is good. However, if you need to backup more types of solutions or Unix systems, like HP/UX, AIX, etc., it's not compatible.""It has no cloud backup feature. You can't back up anywhere outside of your local network.""There is a compatibility issue with HCI."

Pricing and Cost Advice
  • "The product's pricing is a good value. Vembu is cost-effective versus using VMware Essentials. Regarding licensing, make sure you find the right workstation or server that you're going to install it on, and know the number of sockets it has, since the price depends on that."
  • "It is very cost efficient, effective. I’d say it's one-third the cost of Veritas when compared to the server backups. I even tried image backups on Acronis, but Acronis is very expensive. So these are some of the key reasons why I opted for it."
  • "We were able to take advantage of a promotional pricing campaign."
  • "The pricing structure is in line with other solutions. However, the option to replicate offsite to a unit at another office or at home is a big cost benefit. Instead of paying monthly for cloud storage, you replicate offsite for free."
  • "Pricing is fair enough. What was not clear enough in the documentation on the website was that that you're licensing per CPU socket and you are only licensing on the restore sockets, not the backup sockets. It's a bit technical, but it was very well explained during the demonstration that we had during the evaluation period."
  • "I prefer the way Vembu is licensed. When you look at Veeam or any other product, they price per node. Vembu is licensed per host. You just buy a host license and it backs up unlimited VMs within that host. The others charge per VM."
  • "Vembu is too expensive because they don't really have small-business pricing. This is a matter of personal opinion. They're going to tell you that they have competitive pricing because there are more expensive solutions in the marketplace, but there are better solutions in the marketplace that are more expensive. Their product is a better fit for small businesses, but they don't price it that way."
  • "The product's pricing is of good value. It was much more affordable than the alternative solution to it, which was Veeam. That would be the closest competitor, and between those two, Vembu was much more affordable. It seemed reasonable for what we needed to do."

  • "Licensing costs are $300,000 USD yearly, and we pay for three years at a time."
  • "It's a subscription based license, which is started on a yearly basis. Currently the licensing is split between three editions: standard, enterprise, and enterprise plus. As long as you check the comparison between the additions and make sure that you have what you need, there are no extra costs with Veeam."
  • "The solution is rather expensive and I think the price is too high."
  • "The costing is very competitive."
  • "Licensing costs are monthly."
  • "Price-wise it's good."
  • "We have purchased a license to use Veeam Agent for Linux and the additional support. The overall cost of Veeam Agent for Linux is expensive."
  • "There's the principal license for Veeam Agent for Linux, and then you need to buy additional licenses for your machines."
