We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"This synchronization is easy with StorMagic, and we can establish availability between servers.""What I found most valuable in StorMagic SvSAN is integration. As a software-defined storage solution, it's also very easy to use and it's the trend in the market today. StorMagic SvSAN also made the customer happy because the customer could use his existing hardware with it. The customer had rack-mounted storage, so he didn't want to purchase a dedicated hardware for storage purposes. He just upgraded his hard disk drives.""StorMagic SvSAN's best feature is that it is platform agnostic.""It gives zero downtime and it works with two nodes rather than three nodes, unlike other solutions.""StorMagic SvSAN is a very effective solution and the interface is good."

"The solution is easy to install and very stable.""The technical support is good.""Sandbox feature is like a power tool for troubleshooting.""It's got a very good user-friendly interface. It's easy to use.""One of the most valuable features is the incremental backup. It is, of course, perfect because you have a lot of restore points, but you don't need all the space. The stability is also perfect.""I'm satisfied with tech support, because the solution is so stable that I haven't had the need to engage any of the engineers yet.""I like how Veeam intuitively integrates with Zerto.""The solution does a good job with VM backups."

Cons
"In the next release, StorMagic SvSAN should include multi-node clusters, which would allow storage spaces to be used more efficiently.""There are two features missing: there's no REST API functionality, and there is no date duplication in it.""The only improvement area I can see is their licensing. For example, the memory caching feature is only available in an advanced license. Normally, it's in a standard license. It would be better if they had memory caching features in the product. Some backup features should also be in the product""The deployment of StorMagic SvSAN is very small. However, you need some time to do it. It's important to make a test deployment before the real deployment.""In terms of what could be improved in StorMagic SvSAN, I don't have a major issue with it, but its user interface should be more customer-oriented."

More StorMagic SvSAN Cons →

"We struggled to stabilize the application. We had an incident which resulted in a loss of data and have terminated this solution due to lack of support from the Veeam team.""Backup speed should be increased, and there should be more functionality.""Occasionally, in the course of upgrading one's virtualization platform, the backup can be ruined.""The Veeam portal should be better integrated with all the parts of the new release. But there's always a workaround to replicate the new solution. I'd like to have better integration with other solutions like SAP.""The solution could improve by having more user-friendly dashboards.""The backup and integration could be improved.""In the future, Veeam should release a hardware backup appliance that can be integrated with their software.""The licensing models, from a reseller's perspective, could be better."

Pricing and Cost Advice
  • "It's fairly cheap when compared to other options. But it can be improved as some features may not be available in the standard license. The vendor positions it as an edge product, so it isn't suitable to compare with VMware vSAN or Nutanix because that's another product altogether."
  • "The pricing of StorMagic SvSAN is fairly good because if you compare it with VMware, it's at a better price. This is an important thing to remember."
  • "The licensing cost is $7,000 per two nodes for two terabytes."
  • "70% cheaper than competitors and provides all the enterprise feature requirements at low cost."
  • More StorMagic SvSAN Pricing and Cost Advice →

  • "We spend hundreds of thousands of dollars on Veeam each year, although it is not expensive for what we get."
  • "It's a proper price, as it isn't an issue for what Veeam Backup & Replication is giving us. Obviously, we are paying licensing for our physical VMware environment. It also depends on how the VMware environment is on the side. We have a few very big nodes. So, we need a few licenses and maybe if people had more nodes and sockets and each node was managing less information, machine supplies could be different."
  • "There is a license required for this solution and the price is a bit expensive but it depends on the environment that you have on how much it will cost."
  • "When it comes to pricing for a backup solution for data centers, you do not care about the price. We just care about the service and want it to be reliable. In terms of subscription, it really makes sense. When you want to use all the functionalities it is good that Veeam did the subscription-based model, this is what gives it the most strength on the price."
  • "We pay yearly licensing fees for Veeam in our data centers where we're using disaster recovery and replication between our many solutions, especially cloud solutions. From the beginning, we've done our licensing from a separate channel through our data center team in Seattle."
  • "This solution requires a license and the organizations I was involved in were using an enterprise license."
  • "We pay on an annual basis. We pay roughly $12,000 for our software subscription."
  • "The price of the solution could be lower."

    Overview

StorMagic SvSAN simplifies storage at the edge. It is a virtual SAN, virtualizing the internal storage of two servers and creating an active-active mirror that ensures an exact copy of data resides on both servers at any time. Needing just two nodes in each cluster, using any x86 server, any CPU and any storage combination, SvSAN gives you the flexibility to deploy lightweight, low cost highly available storage as you wish.

A single, incredibly lightweight witness provides quorum to as many as 1000 SvSAN clusters and they can all be deployed and managed from a central location. Stretch your SvSAN clusters across entire cities for added resiliency. Deploy on VMware vSphere, Microsoft Hyper-V or Linux KVM hypervisors and avoid vendor lock-in. Leverage sophisticated caching algorithms when superior performance is required. If security is a priority, implement StorSecure - SvSAN's integrated encryption and key management feature. And if redundancy is a concern, deploy three nodes per cluster to withstand two node failures and still keep your applications online.

Veeam Backup & Replication is a reliable backup and recovery software tool that is designed to help you back up, restore, and replicate data on virtual machines (VMs). The solution is compatible with a variety of backup targets and can be used with VMware vSphere and Microsoft Hyper-V. It is agentless and also has a recovery time objective of less than 15 minutes for all applications and uses built-in WAN acceleration to replicate data off-site up to 50 times faster than a raw data transfer. In addition to backing up and recovering VMs, Veeam Backup & Replication can protect and restore individual files and applications for environments such as Exchange and SharePoint. It can also provide transaction-level restores of Oracle and Microsoft SQL databases.

    Veeam Backup & Replication Features

Veeam Backup & Replication has many valuable key features. Some of the most useful ones include:

    • Backup: The solution enables you to create image-level backups of virtual, physical, cloud machines and backups of NAS share files.

Veeam Backup & Replication offers a number of recovery options for various disaster recovery scenarios, including Instant Recovery, image-level restore, file-level restore, restore of application items, and more.
    • Replication: You can create an exact copy of a VM and maintain the copy in sync with the original VM.
    • Continuous data protection (CDP): The solution’s replication technology helps you protect mission-critical VMs and reach recovery point objectives (RPO).
    • Backup copy: With Veeam, you can copy backup files to a secondary repository.
    • Storage systems support: The solution enables you to back up and restore VMs using capabilities of native snapshots created on storage systems.
    • Tape devices support: You can easily store copies of backups in tape devices.

    Reviews from Real Users

Veeam Backup & Replication is a solution that stands out when compared to many of its competitors. Some of its major advantages are its ease of set up, the fact that it is agentless, and that it has an intuitive dashboard.

A Network Operations Manager at an educational organization says, "Integration with VMware is excellent with very granular recovery."

An Inside Solutions Architect at a tech services company mentions, “I like that it's agent-less, easy to set up, and hardware-agnostic.”

An Account Manager at a tech services company states, “The dashboard is very, very easy to understand. We do demonstrations all the time with customers just to show them. If they've lost particular files because of a server going down, we can retrieve those files for them and quickly bring those files back up.”

Kerem C., Director of Professional Services/Senior Solution Architect/Trainer at a tech services company, explains, “It's good for backup performance management and backup window management.”
