Detailed technical support and data integration capabilities create seamless user experience
Regarding SAP Master Data Governance, there is significant room for improvement particularly concerning the replication types. For example, when a vendor master is created in Ariba and a request is submitted from the Ariba system, SAP Ariba directs it to MDG. MDG verifies the details entirely through PI/PO or CPI. Once MDG verifies the data, the request is submitted to the S/4HANA system, the target. After a final approval at all levels, the vendor number is generated, and the vendor code gets passed from source to target system. This number is available in both the Ariba integration in the systems and in SAP BPT code, as well as the S/4HANA system.

When a client wants an analytics tool plus BI, that is when we look to this solution
Having used SAS in the past, in the role that I play, I always push for SAS and all the analytics. But without having done a full comparison with other tools, I do not feel I'm in a position to say that there are capabilities available with SAS that are not in the other tools. But from a practical perspective, I would definitely recommend this solution. I rate it at eight out of 10 because I still want to explore it a bit more. I have only used it for three clients, and not as a full-blown MDM asset. If you are running a complex use case, I may or may not be in a position to justify the use of this product at this point in time. I would be 80 percent comfortable doing so and that's why I'm giving it a score of eight.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"This is an all-around good product."
"User-friendly and provides customized reports and personalized data."
"We've found the solution to be quite flexible."
"Pricing for SAP Master Data Governance in the latest scenario depends on each version, offering a robust and user-friendly application."
"A good solution for large enterprises."
"SAP is a closed tool. Integrating with it requires a lot of effort and money. It is also very expensive and not flexible."
"SAP Master Data Governance is a customizable solution and is flexible."
"SAP MDG has extensive data models and good integration with upstream and downstream systems."
"One good feature is that SAS MDM comes bundled with the entire stack so we are in a position to place it with the client. So when a client wants an analytics tool plus BI, and they want to bring in other elements, that is when we look to MDM, because it is a single vendor."

Cons

"SAP could do better in attracting talent and simplifying technology adoption."
"There is no clarity and direction on how to manage bills of materials (BOMs) or routing in MDG."
"Overall, they just a little bit more flexibility in terms of assigning roles or adding new roles. We have a longer approval process, so we need to break it down into more roles than what is typically available and we need to hard-code it."
"There were challenges with handling multiple values within a single input field at the screen level."
"The user interface is not user-friendly."
"Bill of materials (BOM) creation in manufacturing needs to be enhanced in SAP Master Data Governance."
"The multidomain MDM feature is based on EIP systems, which may not be a good model for all master data."
"It does not ensure data matches after system upgrades."
"The initial setup was slightly complex. We did face a couple of issues such as the SAML integration not being very smooth. And linking communication with the metadata server was a bit of a challenge. Eventually, we were able to configure it properly."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"SAP Master Data Governance is an expensive product."
"I rate the tool's pricing a seven out of ten."
"SAP Master Data Governance is an expensive solution."
"The cloud solution is subscription-based, it is paid monthly or quarterly. If the solution is on-premises, it is a one-time fee. As far as I am aware there are no additional costs."
"The product is too expensive."
"The cost of the product is not ideal."
"The licensing cost is reasonable."
"The pricing is a bit too high."
