Updates systems quickly and does not have a limit on the number of users
NetIQ does not have a limit on the number of users. The tool is secure by nature. It can have more than one billion users. Event-based systems know what has to be changed. SQL-based systems can only change using time and date. Event-based systems provide immediate results, while SQL-based systems need time to sync. It is totally different from a security perspective. Event-based systems can update all the systems in seconds or minutes. Other systems do it within 24 hours. The basic event-based system is AI-driven. It has some kind of robotics and programming. Other tools need programming. I like systems that have prebuilt ideas of security. NetIQ has been in the market for a long period. It has all the systems and connectors. There is not much coding. We just need to configure the products. We need not do any programming. I haven't seen any other product that needs only configuration to do the job. Most products in the market are SQL-based. They need programming. Some service providers who sell other products to customers do not sell NetIQ because they can make more money by selling solutions that need more consultancy and programming. More hours lead to more money.

Identity workflows have delivered strong governance but remain complex to install and customize
I would describe the installation of Oracle Identity Governance on-premises as quite complex. Very complex. To install the product, it took us maybe three or four days to get it up and running just to go through the installation procedures. I repeated the same exercise in 2017 because I also migrated from 11c to 12c. That was the migration in 2017 that I managed. The migration took a long time. It took two to three years to be able to literally migrate all the code that I had. So it was quite complex. To summarize it quickly, I would describe the product as complete, very powerful, and very capable. However, it is extremely complex because Oracle relies on their own framework to customize and develop and fine-tune the functionalities. It is not Java, it is not some public framework. It is Java-based more or less, but it has their own Oracle framework for development and that makes the product quite complex to harness.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"The most valuable features are Password Reset Alerts, Password Sync, and SQL connectors."
"NetIQ Identity Manager is by far the most flexible product available, and the pricing is incredibly good, even if you're not situated in the BeNeLux."
"Identity and access management processes have developed to become automatic and fast."
"The main value lies in the simplicity of implementation, as well as its customized look and feel."
"The most valuable feature of NetIQ Identity Manager for identity synchronization is the ability to provide users with all necessary access on day one through automated provisioning, facilitated by approval workflows."
"It's a very flexible tool, so you can synchronize multiple sources of data and you have multiple connections to various kinds of systems."
"I like the eDirectory feature."
"The greater strength was to keep the identities synchronized without failures in both attributes and passwords."
"One thing for sure, is that it is the most comprehensive solution out there in the market."
"Good features are the RBAC and UI customization."
"The solution helps us to define roles and get people to specific tasks; from this point of view, it is an amazing tool."
"The Oracle platform was more aligned with our business road maps and meets the desired capabilities the business needs."
"The organizational benefit is increased efficiency and simplicity so that we can manage the identity lifecycle faster and better, and so we can govern the access from a central place and make it easier."
"We have used this product to automate our manual business processes, like onboarding and other processes."
"Automated Provisioning to applications has removed the effort required to manually create accounts in applications, which increases our productivity."
"The most valuable feature is the set of out-of-the-box connectors."

Cons

"The solution architecture is somewhat complex. For some components, the necessary resilience is not inherent."
"Be more honest about how poorly it runs on Windows servers. It is optimized for Linux."
"Areas for improvement are further enhancing the access granting process to reduce time and improve accuracy."
"It needs some modern features. They should improve and modernize their management interface. It has been created over years and by different persons. You can see different applications, different management consoles for different things. There should be an integrated interface."
"The UI for requesting and approving rights have been a little outdated, however, in the most recent version that has been addressed."
"Technical support is average. When it's come to complex issues, it takes longer than expected to solve."
"If it works, Designer is a charm, but it can be a pain to keep updated because of all the Java stuff that regularly goes wrong."
"The integrations must be made easier."
"There are issues with stability in the long run."
"In this area, I don't see great support."
"Oracle Identity Manager is an out-of-the-box solution that is not beneficial for us."
"It is really hard to implement Oracle Data Manager because we have a lot security that we need to manage."
"I did not give it 10 out of 10 because of the time it takes for new versions to mature before they are bug free. The product is excessively resource intensive (i.e., hardware requirements) especially in the later versions."
"Most areas need improvements, all the way from the GUI to core functionality, logging, traceability, configuration, and bugs causing crashes."
"Our issues with the solution have to do with the integration with different applications. It's not easy to connect ICAO to this kind of product. It would be better to work on the extensions of the adapters for this kind of identity management solution in order to not put in the code in the product."
"One of my client's audit issues was happening for almost nine months, and my previous client was the biggest client for Oracle, a premium client for Oracle, but still they were not able to resolve the issue."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"Micro Focus is flexible when it comes to price. The cost varies from customer to customer. There are no additional costs, though. Everything is included."
"The solution is quite affordable."
"I would rate the pricing a two out of ten, with one being low price and ten being high price. It is significantly more cost-effective than the major players in the market."
"The price of the solution is a bit high and could be reduced."
"It would easily help them in getting more market and more customers if more consultants knew about their software. If they could keep it free for schools for teaching purposes, it would be good. I had to pay myself to get it and use it for training. Their competitors are giving it for free. I had to pay for it myself. They are losing market to their competitors."
"You just need to be aware that the more systems you connect, the more license fees you have to pay."
"The price is based on the number of users per year."
"Oracle Identity Governance is expensive."
"I can't say much about the pricing for Oracle Identity Governance because it's different from one geography to another. In India, the license price costs less than in other geographies."
"The licensing is expensive."
"Oracle Identity Governance is an expensive solution."
"The cost of support and upgrading to the next release are both expensive."
"Price-wise, the tool is a little bit costly."
"The licensing cost for Oracle Identity Governance is very high, so I'd rate it two out of five."
