Simplifies setup and requires user interface enhancement
Nagios XI is easy to install, which sets it apart from other open-source solutions I've tried. Typically, setting up a monitoring system on Linux involves cloning files from GitHub, building it, and installing many dependencies, but with Nagios XI, it wasn't like that. Nagios XI simplifies our setup and reduces the time spent configuring monitoring tools.

We can set up a dashboard to monitor the status of an entire site, which provides more insight into any issues across devices
One engineer is enough for the solution's maintenance. There has been a significant improvement in Statseeker in the last few versions. It includes a wallet map and features we plan to implement when deploying the latest or penultimate versions across all our sites. This will significantly assist in identifying sites surpassing thresholds or KPIs, making issue detection much more accessible. The threshold feature is handy for identifying delays and major outages. This graphical map enables us to quickly assess the scope of nationwide problems, allowing for swift action and efficient reporting to management and service providers. This tool facilitates monitoring by visualizing all network elements with their respective coordinates, highlighting any downtimes or issues through color-coded green for operational, orange for approaching thresholds, yellow for minor alarms, and red for critical issues. The tool is a monitoring tool that helps in identifying problems. It is necessary to have someone trained to set up the dashboards because they might require some programming or specific configuration skills. Once it's configured, it works well. It's not as straightforward as other tools where you plug in the device, and everything works. With Statseeker, you still need to put in some effort to set up your dashboard properly. It requires someone with good training and proficiency in setting up these dashboards. They can benefit the technical and operations teams, providing useful insights into the network and the executive management team to receive reports on the overall network health. Overall, I rate the solution a seven out of ten.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"Though I downplayed the administrative NCC GUI, this is by far the strongest aspect of the Nagios XI product."
"Nagios XI helped me to draw the network and check for system failures."
"It's great for monitoring IT services infrastructure."
"The solution's most valuable feature is its simplicity."
"Nagios XI is an outstanding network Monitoring tool, which can be tweaked to suit any environment and it is a good solution for business looking for remarkable features at zero cost."
"The most valuable feature is its support for different types of devices, where it can use all of the equipment that you need."
"You can save a lot of time using Nagios monitoring because otherwise you need to check all of your services or system one by one."
"The ROI is very good."
"The Statseeker polling engine is very efficient and it does not miss any outage."
"We are a smaller enterprise, but we're watching approximately fifteen-thousand switchboards with no problem at all."
"It is very scalable, stable, easy to use and manage."
"The stability of this solution is great compared to other solutions, such as SolarWinds, and Statseeker is one step further."
"Key features for us are custom reporting, 95th Percentile, and trend lines."
"Statseeker helps reduce the complexity of our network monitoring because it's real-time, or somewhat real-time, so we're able to see stuff quickly and react to it."
"The most valuable features are scalability and reliability."
"If somebody is complaining about slow networking then this solution allows us to see various ports to find out whether they are being overloaded."

Cons

"The NCC does have issues where it locks up or an admin cannot be sure if the system configuration was exact."
"While this solution works, I think that it can be improved in terms of maintenance, support, and price."
"They need more documentation for the plugins."
"Nagios provides most of the features by default, however to add more services to it, it requires additional plugins which require little effort on administrative end."
"We're still experiencing stability issues with regards to collecting performance graphs."
"Improve the documentation, examples, and best practices, therefore users can understand how to do things."
"Initially, we encountered problems during the setup as some errors were noted due to a few prerequisites not being fulfilled and having some configuration files to edit and plugins to add."
"There's no convenient way to manage notes as the only way is to manage them through the database."
"More private MIB object support, such as WAN optimisation performance and wireless, would be helpful."
"If it had more detailed NetFlow information then it would be far better."
"This product provides some good functionality. However, the reporting is right to left, which is less than ideal, the cost is significantly high, and the NetFlow capabilities are lacking."
"I would like the ability to update the dashboard. I would also like the ability to access via an API."
"I would like to see NetFlow improved, with better reporting capabilities that are similar to Scrutinizer."
"We would like to see improvements in reporting and multiple-user integration."
"Detailed data can be hard to extract in CSV form. Sometimes, being able to dump down raw data would be good so various time periods across a longer period could be analysed. At present, data can be presented within Statseeker, but there is lots of "white space" between data points."
"I would like to see a friendlier user interface in the administration tool."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"This solution is very expensive, at approximately $5,000 USD when I purchased it, which is why I haven't upgraded my version in several years."
"Licensing costs are reasonable."
"It is good to contact experts for advice about what is the best solution for your specific infrastructure and enterprise."
"For the cost of the commercial product and support, and taking into account the open source characteristics of it, I believe it is difficult to a better value."
"Nagios Core does not have any payment, but Nagios XI requires payment for the license."
"Nagios XI is open source."
"The pricing is really cost efficient. The licensing is perpetual and can be renewed very easily."
"Nagios XI is an expensive solution."
"One thing that needs improvement is how it's licensed. I understand historically the company licensed it off a same charge for everyone. I understand the company needs to make money, but how they introduced the tiered licensing model, and then multiple layers of licensing was a bit of an issue. So, on the whole, coming up with a licensing model that isn't confusing and complicated and is easy to understand would be one way to improve the product. They have told me lately that they're changing how they license stuff, but they haven't made that - as I understand it - in their marketing material public knowledge as of yet. I would say that at the moment it's a bit convoluted. It's confusing. Some of their basic licensing model is a bit of a ripoff. If you go over five or ten support calls in the basic licensing model they start charging you for support calls. I think that's a bit rich."
"We pay somewhere between $5,000 and $8,000 yearly in licensing fees."
"The licensing cost is yearly and it's $5,000 to $8,000, I think."
"This tool would probably be priced well if it had deeper NetFlow capabilities, but for our use case, in particular, we're only recovering ports after ninety days and looking at circuit congestion, it's pretty pricey."
"Pricing is reasonable but licensing should unlimited."
"It would definitely be a yearly licensing cost, but I don't know what it is."
"Compared to other solutions such as Zabbix and AKiPS, this solution is very well priced."
"Statseeker is pretty cheap."
