Monitoring has become centralized and management now sees real‑time health of key network assets
The time investment required is significant, not because of difficulty but because of the need for free time to invest in it. We need to get the knowledge. We know there are many options, but we took an external vendor to install and make the customization. If we want to make others changes without paying for customization, we need to learn it deeply by ourselves. The tutorials are very complicated. They could work on that area. The tutorial part could be more simplified. I know there are many explanations, and you can get help or documents in one click on the current page in the product, but it is not very clear. If you want to do something new that you did not see from the vendor in the installation, it is not very simple. The documents are good for people that know how to operate the product well, but for new users, it is not simple.

We can set up a dashboard to monitor the status of an entire site, which provides more insight into any issues across devices
One engineer is enough for the solution's maintenance. There has been a significant improvement in Statseeker in the last few versions. It includes a wallet map and features we plan to implement when deploying the latest or penultimate versions across all our sites. This will significantly assist in identifying sites surpassing thresholds or KPIs, making issue detection much more accessible. The threshold feature is handy for identifying delays and major outages. This graphical map enables us to quickly assess the scope of nationwide problems, allowing for swift action and efficient reporting to management and service providers. This tool facilitates monitoring by visualizing all network elements with their respective coordinates, highlighting any downtimes or issues through color-coded green for operational, orange for approaching thresholds, yellow for minor alarms, and red for critical issues. The tool is a monitoring tool that helps in identifying problems. It is necessary to have someone trained to set up the dashboards because they might require some programming or specific configuration skills. Once it's configured, it works well. It's not as straightforward as other tools where you plug in the device, and everything works. With Statseeker, you still need to put in some effort to set up your dashboard properly. It requires someone with good training and proficiency in setting up these dashboards. They can benefit the technical and operations teams, providing useful insights into the network and the executive management team to receive reports on the overall network health. Overall, I rate the solution a seven out of ten.

Quotes from Members

Pros

"As the kind of enterprise that straddles the line between telco size and enterprise size, it scales for us, because we're not all the way at telco yet."
"CA Spectrum is very useful for event handling and offers a robust manager of managers console."
"Its ability to alert us on network issues before they become critical is a great benefit."
"The event management that the tool provides is extremely powerful, but with that comes a bit of complexity."
"Spectrum is great for root cause analysis. It has excellent correlation event management. Spectrum's stability and scalability are also amazing."
"Spectrum has given us the agility to solve problems faster."
"Everything being centrally located in one infrastructure management tool allows anyone anywhere, between the IT help desk, to Windows teams, Unix teams, or the network team to see exactly what devices are causing the issue, as well as the severity of those issues."
"Without a doubt the most valuable feature of this solution is its scalability."
"This solution has helped us to proactively identify issues and push some of those fixes down to tier one."
"In terms of network visibility, Statseeker can be very granular. We can tell it exactly where we want it to go and where we want it to check, or it can do an SNMP walk and find out where everything is. It's very detailed."
"Support is fantastic and Statseeker are always looking to improve."
"I like this product and would recommend it to a colleague at another company."
"Being able to look back historically at the uptime and downtime is invaluable."
"The product simplifies monitoring by providing real-time alerts through a GUI dashboard, email and texts."
"I am happy to advise others to use this product for monitoring their networks, as it is working so well."
"The most important feature is just the fact that it doesn't aggregate the information up, and I can look at detailed information going back quite a long time."

Cons

"The Systems Performance Agent is powerful, but, for example, if you want to run a sql query and set a threshold against the returned value, you can’t directly."
"The documentation of this product is not very easy to understand without any screenshots or application windows."
"The Spectrum OneClick is a Java-based client, and that's aging."
"The price of DX Spectrum is not competitive when compared to other solutions, such as SolarWinds. The high price has caused us to lose many deals."
"The Spectrum OneClick is a Java-based client, and that's aging. Really, before any new feature integration, I'd love to see a comprehensive rebuild of the UI."
"I would like to see better scalability, and maybe, a more intuitive user interface. "
"It has a limitation in that it needed an old version of Java."
"I would like to see a better, more simple web interface."
"There is no high availability over multiple locations (datacenters) and if you want to maintain what is monitored, I suggest you use the host file."
"However, the bells and whistles that other vendors have will need to be provided or enhanced in Statseeker in order for it to compete."
"I do not feel that this solution is very scalable."
"More private MIB object support, such as WAN optimisation performance and wireless, would be helpful."
"If it had more detailed NetFlow information then it would be far better."
"This solution would be improved with better automatic discovery for ping-only devices."
"I’ve seen two Statseeker techs work several hours to fix it."
"The tech support is a little lacking compared to some other products that I've worked with."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"The product, support, and maintenance are all expensive, which is another reason that we are switching to another solution."
"It’s a great tool, but an expensive one. Learn how to use it properly."
"In general, the license cost will be about 30% of the total TCO for this tool (hardware/support team, OS costs, and OS management)."
"Since the acquisition by Broadcom, we have not had such a good experience with licensing and pricing. Since they were bought by Broadcom, every sales contract is getting complicated. It's very complicated, and it's much more expensive than before. It's not a good pricing strategy from Broadcom."
"It is very pricey. With the current trend of enterprises moving towards cheaper and more modern looking solutions like ManageEngine, SevOne, ServicePilot, and Paesller."
"Currently, a perpetual license but some services are moving to a subscription"
"The price is very high."
"It is expensive compared to other tools in the market."
"Compared to other solutions such as Zabbix and AKiPS, this solution is very well priced."
"Statseeker is pretty cheap."
"We pay somewhere between $5,000 and $8,000 yearly in licensing fees."
"We pay a yearly maintenance fee of approximately $40,000 USD."
"The yearly cost varies as per the number of devices being monitored. The cost for 25,000 devices is about $4500."
"We now feel the pricing is a good value. Previously we had a just a normal license but now we've got an Enterprise license. Since the Enterprise, it's been a lot better value. We did think it was pretty expensive before, but with the Enterprise license it's almost less than half that price. If you have a number of accounts within the organization that use Statseeker, I would suggest get the Enterprise license."
"It would definitely be a yearly licensing cost, but I don't know what it is."
"We paid $5,000 to $10,000 a year in maintenance."
