Improved project scheduling has maximized resource utilization and has reduced delays
I think the licensing structure presents a significant area for improvement. The full features are not offered on the standard E4 license. This becomes problematic when distributing the project plan. I can export the plan as Excel and CSV files, but then I lose all the rich features, including dependency mapping. To recreate all that functionality without proper licensing is challenging. Microsoft Project offers a light version available for free, but when I try to distribute a project plan, it requires separate licensing. Microsoft Project Central used to be more of an enterprise product. Microsoft Project currently focuses on very low-level task management, and it could do much more. I do not see significant advancement happening because there is confusion about where Microsoft Project is heading. I believe Microsoft should bundle the license with Outlook, Teams, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. This approach would result in more people using Microsoft Project. That is my opinion on how to improve adoption and the product offering.

Consistent capital project workflows have improved collaboration and real-time data use
In my opinion, the best features of Trimble Project Management are that it is quite good as a database and process, and it has been working well for us. The big challenge is on the reporting side; it does not provide great dashboards and that type of functionality. Using Trimble Project Management has made our project efficiency more efficient than not having it. It is a project management information system, so it is very important to have for our organization. Trimble Project Management's real-time data integration has been a valuable feature; we have a data warehouse that it sends information to, and we use Tableau to create dashboards.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"It has a nice interface that aligns with Excel and Word."
"Microsoft Project is the best."
"Students have benefited from learning the de-facto standard for managing projects used by all the major companies worldwide."
"The resource allocation features, which help allocate resources to tasks, are quite valuable."
"It comes with our Office 365."
"Microsoft Project is primarily for tracking your team, observing team activity, and tracking time for tasks."
"Dependencies (not typically effectively used in "Agile" techniques) allow understanding of actual project status and challenges."
"It is a complete and all-rounded enterprise product. From a portfolio management perspective and an individual project management perspective, it is a corporate-wide project management product. It can be used for resource planning, financial planning, task planning, etc."
"Using Trimble Project Management has made our project efficiency more efficient than not having it."

Cons

"The solution could be more flexible when it comes to integration."
"The solution could offer waterfall options for agile and sprint planning."
"The setup and scalability can be somewhat difficult for new users until they gain knowledge."
"Microsoft Project could improve the interface, it should be more intuitive."
"Its price can be improved."
"The licensing cost is expensive and has room for improvement."
"When a project plan becomes huge, it is painful to arrange and structure the project in Microsoft Project. Currently, you require a separate product for managing agile projects, and people are using Jira and Rally to manage stories in agile. Primarily, on the software development side, people are kind of moving away from Microsoft Project."
"Microsoft Project is very expensive, costing roughly double what it should. We purchase perpetual licenses due to the high cost of subscriptions, which are about 1,000 Australian dollars."
"The reporting does exist, but it is not great."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"You only need a Team's license in order to use Microsoft Project within Teams, which is very helpful."
"The licensing model is somewhat complex."
"It was a three-year license deal that was reconciled on a quarterly basis. It is a reasonably priced product, and I consider that we got good value for money."
"The product is not expensive. My company has opted for an annual subscription."
"I am not aware of any additional costs apart from the standard licensing fees of the solution."
"The cost for an on-premises-based license is a one-time fee, and the cloud-based is an annual payment plan."
"The license fees for the professional version, which is estimated to be approximately $1,600, and the standard version, which is approximately $1,200, may be considered expensive by some users. This is something that could be improved to make the platform more accessible to a wider audience."
"The solution is expensive."
