We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"Easy integration with UPS systems provides added convenience and efficiency for our operations.""It's very power-efficient and allows you to access the rack server directly without accessing the operating system on that server.""The solution is very simple to install.""The hardware performance is very valuable.""The most valuable aspect of Lenovo ThinkSystem Rack Servers is the brand name and the service relationship we have with Lenovo.""It is a stable solution.""Lenovo ThinkSystem Rack Servers are scalable.""The product is designed to make adding RAM and disk space easier for users."

"The performance is the best feature.""The most valuable features of the solution stem from the fact that Oracle Database functions very well with Oracle SPARC Servers.""The operating system is rock solid and the best I have ever used.""Our customers are happy with many features in Oracle SPARC Servers, like the automatic ASR feature.""The Oracle server is very powerful. They are more powerful and durable compared to Intel hardware. Which has been a benefit to our organization.""I have found the LDAP facilities most valuable. In addition, I like the CPU.""The processor is very helpful and the licensing is very flexible."

Cons
"Improvements could be made in the network cards, particularly by offering options for higher-speed cards beyond the current 10 GB.""I have a few notification alerts about PCI cards but it's rare.""Lenovo ThinkSystem Rack Servers could improve the availability of their solution. The supply chain is severely broken, we've had to wait many months for component parts to a system time after time. The availability of discs and raid controllers has been difficult lately.""It should have tools for integration with the cloud. We should be able to transmit data from our on-premises server to the servers in the cloud.""HP has a riser inside, but Lenovo does not have a riser. It would be good to have a riser with Lenovo. The GUI of the system is really bad. HP has a very good UI for smart memories and everything inside, but in Lenovo, we have a black-and-white UI. HP right now manufactures a server with scalable SP1 and SP2 on a single machine, which is not the case with Lenovo. They are changing the machine. For SP 1, there is one server, and for SP2, there is another server, which is really bad. In HP, we can use two models of processors in a single case. Lenovo should also be improved to have SP1 and SP2 scalable processors simultaneously on a single machine. They should not release another machine. This issue is also there in H3650 severs. They are all inside, but only V3 CPU or only v4 CPU can work, whereas, in HBG9, we can deploy V3 and V4 simultaneously. Lenovo also needs to advertise more because I can't see advertisements anywhere.""It is quite an expensive product. Its price can be improved.""For the price my company pays for Lenovo ThinkSystem Rack Servers, we can have more from other vendors offering the same functionalities that are present in Lenovo ThinkSystem Rack Servers at a lower price.""Upgrading firmware is easier in Dell than in Lenovo."

More Lenovo ThinkSystem Rack Servers Cons →

"The solution could improve by giving a clear roadmap about the future. I'm not seeing a lot of improvements on the OS side of the software. They need to work more on the operating system.""Oracle doesn't have a good roadmap for the solution because they are moving to the x86 platform.""Like IBM, Oracle SPARC Servers should be able to run other open operating systems like Linux.""They have declared the end of life of the hardware.""Oracle SPARC Servers should be fine-tuned well enough to work with the other servers and software products in the market, as it is an area where Oracle SPARC Servers lack.""They need some sort of modeling because IBM has different types of models.""I would like to see a reduced price point."

Pricing and Cost Advice
  • "As the costs got high, we had to use the virtualization feature to consolidate the server farm."
  • "It is the cheapest solution we have seen on the market."
  • "Your budget determines the scalability."
  • "The licensing cost is the same as HP. It doesn't have any additional cost. However, the price, for example, for the memory option, does not match other vendors such as HP or Dell. They should work on the pricing of Lenovo. It is a great competitor, and it should compete with the price."
  • "It is too expensive. Because we are a university and we have to look for our money, many times we buy some refurbished machines or equipment at reasonable prices from IBM or Lenovo. We are a little bit limited in terms of money, and we buy as much as we can. If they were cheaper, we would buy more."
  • "It costs around $8,000. There is an additional cost for the support for a year."
  • "Its pricing is very competitive."
  • "The price of the solution is very expensive when compared to other solution like HP or Dell."
  • More Lenovo ThinkSystem Rack Servers Pricing and Cost Advice →

  • "Oracle SPARC Servers are expensive to manage, this is because after five years Oracle will increase the support charges for the hardware. The licensing policy for Oracle is different for Intel and Sparc. It will cost you less if you use your Oracle hardware with Oracle SPARC Servers."
  • "The licensing is flexible."
  • "The application running on it is very important to us and this makes the price worth it."
  • "The hardware is expensive but it has very rich virtualization features that make it economical."
  • "My company makes yearly payments toward the licensing costs attached to the solution."
