I'm not a network expert, however, there must be some room for improvement. Perhaps there could be a notification to users about their bandwidth or network packet loss. If users receive such notifications, they can understand any disruptions are due to issues with their network or bandwidth rather than the site or Kiteworks. Additionally, I work from offshore India, and I told my client manager to communicate with the Kiteworks forum salesman regarding one feature. I noticed the Kiteworks login UI is very basic, lacking customization. Allowing more HTML tags to add hyperlinks or user-friendly information on the home page would be very useful.

In terms of improvements for Sharepoint 2016, I see how it can be improved regarding performance tweaks. Limiting view columns plus items is important because each extra column adds approximately 0.5 seconds of render time for 1,000 items. I keep default views under five to six columns and fewer than 1,000 items, utilizing filters such as "today" and "me". The next point is to avoid Group By on large lists as it adds HTML and slows rendering. Collapsed groups can make it worse, but using datasheet view for bulk edits renders faster than the standard view. Implementing minimum roles plus zero downtime patching, which is built into the 2016 setup, means we should configure minimum roles correctly so web front end, application server, and search servers can do only their job and speed up farms. In terms of user experience with adoption, governance and naming can be improved. Outdated sites plus inconsistent navigation make people revert to email. Setting naming rules, archive policies, and owners helps governance protect ROI. Ensuring optimized search queries, avoiding wildcards, and limiting results will lead to three times faster answers. Pushing OneDrive for Business sync will enable people to work offline. 2016 added durable links so links do not break when files move. Cutting customizations will make non-customized pages load much faster, so removing heavy web parts and custom JavaScript on homepages is essential. Reducing IT tickets can still be enhanced within these improvements. In addition to the needed improvements regarding user training, integrations, and support, I would stress the importance of these areas. Achieving a perfect ten for Sharepoint 2016 Standard would involve addressing a few issues. The mobile user experience feels clunky versus modern, and the absence of Power Automate makes some workflows feel dated. While search is good, it is not comparable to Google for intranet use. Additionally, support ending in 2026 is a ticking clock that needs consideration.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"We could see whether the customer with whom we shared a file had downloaded it, which was not available with GitHub."
"The solution removes the limitations with file attachment size that is found with regular email."
"The most useful feature of this solution is to share files with external parties and we can use this functionality to share files internally too."
"The top two features are the two-factor authentication, which is pretty good. It's easily understood by the users. And their API is rather robust. We have numerous integrations that work off the API."
"The most valuable aspect of Kiteworks is undoubtedly the private content network. This feature is particularly beneficial for us. Furthermore, it serves as a centralized platform that enables us to track and manage our information exchange."
"The solution can be used remotely, including from mobiles, and it's easy to upload and share files."
"I can identify from which region our users are uploading or downloading files."
"The best part of this solution is that we can generate multiple reports about how the data is transferred and about user information or IP."
"Sharepoint 2016 Standard serves the purpose of storing and retrieving documents, including product-related documents, project-related documents, and any BI-specific documents."
"Sharepoint 2016 Standard has positively impacted my organization because since we had a cyber attack in 2017 and implemented this tool, it has been a secure and easy way to store files and access files for the people who are given permission."
"Sharepoint 2016 Standard is great software where we can configure applications inside the environment that are very useful for my company and other companies."
"Sharepoint 2016 Standard has definitely saved a lot of time and the use case is quite visible because management can track the progress on a real-time basis rather than following up with me on mail or chat and having me share the files with them on email."
"With Sharepoint 2016 Standard, you do not have to be a specialist; you just need some training, and after this, you are able to design solutions to make your daily job easier."
"Using Sharepoint 2016 Standard enables me to share my thought process and knowledge bases easily across teams as well as within teams."
"My affinity for Sharepoint 2016 Standard stems from its flexibility and adaptability, which I consistently experience as a significant reason for its success in my projects."
"So far, Sharepoint 2016 Standard has proven to be one of the best, if not the best, document management platforms that can be used in hybrid environments."

Cons

"We mainly had stability issues with kiteworks, where we were pushing the limits of its capability."
"We have experienced some issues with stability due to bugs."
"The one feature, which I have also requested directly to Kiteworks, is to have a scheduled upgrade function. Currently, one of my engineers logs in after hours for the upgrade. We're a hospital, and we're 24/7, but the primary users are seven to five. So, we log in the early evening just to push a button to tell it to do the update. It would be nice if that could be very easily scheduled."
"I would like to see immediate releases of fixes because now it takes at least a week. If that time span can be reduced to one day or two days, that would be very helpful for users so that things are sorted and transactions work smoothly."
"Perhaps there could be a notification to users about their bandwidth or network packet loss."
"In my experience, their technical support can be a little slow."
"There are always issues when there are bugs or upgrades. The challenge with upgrading is getting more storage from the customer. Every time we have a new version, it requires additional storage. This means that the customer would need to procure more storage for their server, which they don't like because it means additional cost to them. So, I think my request would be that the version upgrades don't require any significant storage requirement."
"It could be more stable. In the next release, it would be better if it was more stable with improved performance."
"Sharepoint 2016 Standard can be improved by continuing to evolve with changing technology."
"Sharepoint 2016 Standard can be improved because the user interface slows down productivity for our staff at times; it is very slow."
"The mobile user experience feels clunky versus modern, and the absence of Power Automate makes some workflows feel dated."
"Sharepoint 2016 Standard could be improved in terms of design."
"I would assess the integration of Microsoft Office apps within Sharepoint 2016 Standard for document management as lacking."
"It is great software. It is expensive."
"One thing about Sharepoint 2016 Standard is that the user interface feels dated compared to others."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"It is not really expensive. I mean, to me it's obviously expensive, but it's worth it."
"They changed it midstream. We were being charged a certain flat rate for SFTP traffic. For whatever reason, at the beginning of the year, our pricing changed, and we are now being charged more for using a feature of the product than we were when we first bought it. That has been our experience with billing. It turned out to be more expensive than when we started with it."
"The license management is changing and confusing. If I could make one change to it, it would be better license management through the API."
"I believe it's a little costly, but given the faith that we put into it from a security perspective to maintain the integrity of our patient information that is being transferred through this system, that's a small price to pay. So, on the surface, it might look like a lot of money, but depending on the need for security, which is where we feel it shines, it's okay price-wise."
"The price of Kiteworks is reasonable."
"The solution is very expensive because we are buying with Malaysian Ringgit and it's sold in US dollars."
