Fast data recovery for large scale datasets
The Infiniguard (dedicated disc storage), offers a petabyte of storage space for on-site disc storage for backups. Because of this, we were able to get rid of our tapes. Essentially, it replaced our tape backups. We're definitely going to be buying another INFINIDAT array. We do have another location that is going to be needing a new array sometime soon, so we'll be buying another one. The beautiful thing about them is that you can set them up to replicate for disaster recovery between the two of them and set up some nice replication jobs, site to site, for automatic database replication.

Backup operations have become reliable and reporting now simplifies hybrid cloud protection
Veeam Data Platform has Veeam Enterprise Manager as well as Veeam ONE as valuable features, which allow us to generate various kinds of reports that are required for the customer. Instant VM Recovery is a good feature of the high-speed recovery features in Veeam Data Platform, and Continuous Data Protection (CDP) is also a good feature. Ransomware protection is a good feature added in Veeam Data Platform from version 12 onwards, and the ability to create immutable repositories is also a good feature in Veeam. The analytics part of Veeam Data Platform is a good solution because I have worked on various backup technologies such as EMC NetWorker and NetBackup. However, I have not used the analytical parts currently but will check it out. Streamlining processes as well as saving money are benefits that Veeam Data Platform provides for the end user, as it allows for application-aware backups and database backups without the need for various kinds of licenses that other backup software requires. Veeam offers socket-based licenses, instance-based licenses, and capacity-based licenses, which is a great feature.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"Essentially, it replaced our tape backups."
"Overall, this solution has been very cost-effective for us."
"The solution has improved our organization because it's very fast in backup recovery."
"By allowing us to restore from our NetApp appliance directly, we have realized a tremendous time and resource savings in our virtual environment."
"Sandbox feature is like a power tool for troubleshooting."
"The functionalities that Veeam offers are fantastic."
"Simple and stable."
"During a zero day virus outbreak that caused several critical systems to fail, the ability to boot and run a replica that had not been infected yet kept the business running and productive."
"Its simplicity and the fact that it just works are most valuable. We kind of set it up and generally forget about it. It does what we need it to do in the background, and it doesn't involve a lot of management."
"The backups we have been receiving from Veeam Backup Replication on-premise have been good."

Cons

"I would like to see more improvement in the GUI; for example, better graphs and statistics so that you have a better vision of what exactly you have stored."
"I would like to see more improvement in the GUI."
"Better reporting of replication job details in order to provide better insights when troubleshooting."
"Sometimes, rarely, there is a bug that prevents enabling the restore button, which is hectic."
"In the future, Veeam should release a hardware backup appliance that can be integrated with their software."
"The replicating from Veeam Backup Replication to Azure cloud could be improved."
"The product must improve its performance."
"No issues as such with stability and scalability, but from the deployment perspective, we expect it to support a hybrid environment - multiple-edition deployment within one single Veeam Backup Server instance."
"Its licensing needs to be improved. Its licensing has become complex since last December."
"Restoration takes about two to four hours with Veeam. Zerto can restore in about 10 seconds."

Pricing and Cost Advice

Information not available
"The price is great. It's software related, and I know that might be a good thing because it's a cheap solution to buy and we have been looking for a program for backup and they fit the bill."
"It is an affordable solution."
"The pricing depends on the number of clients. We pay 10,00 USD per year. On a scale of one to ten, where one is cheap, and ten is expensive, I rate the pricing an eight out of ten."
"I would suggest to others that they buy the full license when purchasing this solution."
"Veeam products are less expensive than other products. The licensing costs are low and they're pretty affordable."
"If you have Exchange, Oracle, SQL, or a supported SAN, then I suggest getting at least an Enterprise edition. It’ll pay for itself in no time."
"Veeam ONE is cheaper when you compare it with one of its competitors in the ops space, VMware vRealize Operations. There's a separate department that deals with the licensing, but my company is using CSP licensing, which is the service provider licensing, so my company doesn't fall under the normal volume at the Veeam Universal licensing program. The cost is commit-based and depends on what your point commit is. The point commit works differently, and it's similar to your sales provider license. If you commit to using one thousand five hundred points, you get a certain price. If you commit to using the eight hundred points scheme, you get a certain price. As you grow the point scheme, you get a different price range, so it doesn't matter whether you're using Veeam One, Veeam Availability Suite, Veeam Backup and Replication, Orchestrate, or whatever the product is."
"We spend hundreds of thousands of dollars on Veeam each year, although it is not expensive for what we get."

Disaster recovery planning is something that seems challenging for all businesses. Virtualization in addition to its operational flexibility, and cost reduction benefits, has helped companies improve their DR posture. Virtualization has made it easier to move machines from production to…
