CyberArk manager at a comms service provider with 10,001+ employees
Secures critical infrastructures with essential user session audit records
A potential area for improvement is enhancing support for cluster environments and distributed Vaults. Clients in multiple countries that need central access have different challenges that require better solutions from CyberArk. For financial services, CyberArk can improve incident response by ensuring fast support for critical priority tickets to meet compliance requirements. Providing more documentation on CyberArk is recommended for new team members to enhance their troubleshooting capabilities. I understand it's up to the client, but 99% fail to change the demo key, so it's crucial for CyberArk to emphasize changing the key and documenting it as part of the installation process.

A mature, powerful product with good integration capabilities
Since we use it to access a number of mission-critical applications, it means that we have multiple sites. We have independent instances of Access Manager deployed. What's very important for us is to ensure that the configurations across the various sites are 100% aligned. If they had a mechanism to ensure that's the case, that would be great. For example, the worst thing to do is if you run into an issue, and then you fail over to your disaster recovery environment, and then you find out that you've got a missing configuration there, it'll be great if one could easily compare configurations across instances of NetIQ Access Manager to ensure consistency. It's just about ensuring consistent configuration across various instances. Having the ability to easily extract and view and compare and version control configurations would be ideal. If you consider our scenario whereby, let's say, we've got an instance for our retail environment, and for that instance, we've got a disaster recovery environment. We need to ensure the amount of service at each of those sites. Now yes, they serve different purposes, however, for us, it's very important that site A and site B are 100% aligned. And so if there was a way to easily extract the configuration and to compare it across sites, to me, that would just make everything from an operational perspective significantly easier.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"The users have the ability to rotate passwords on a daily basis with a Reconcile Account. Or, if they want to do one-time password checkouts, we can manage those, check in, check out. I like the flexibility of the changing of the password, specifically."
"The most valuable features of CyberArk Enterprise Password Vault are password rotations and password encryptions."
"The audit capabilities include video so that not only keystrokes but also mouse clicks are captured, providing safety and reassurance for anyone working in our infrastructure."
"The most valuable features of CyberArk Enterprise Password Vault are password vaulting and automatic rotation of passwords after use."
"CyberArk Privileged Access Manager has been helpful in managing over 125,000 privileged accounts in a single environment for our client, and we have multiple CyberArk environments for different clients with different numbers of accounts."
"CyberArk has a lot of modules."
"CyberArk is a very important tool for my organization."
"It provides the broadest point of view for privileged access management solutions in the market."
"The most valuable features of NetIQ Access Manager are SSO and Multi-Factor Authentication."
"There are lots of options to customize the solution to your needs."
"The single sign-on feature is excellent."
"I would recommend NetIQ Access Manager; it is a very, very good alternative to Microsoft, Micro Focus is very big and offers good technical services, and the solution is very good, fast, simple to operate, and has very good production time to market."
"It's very easy to integrate with applications."
"The integration is quite easy because there are a lot of options for integrating with different applications, so it is very versatile."
"It's a very powerful product."
"The features that we have found most valuable with NetIQ Access Manager are its single sign-on and two factor two second factor database."

Cons

"Sometimes the infrastructure team is hesitant to provide more resources."
"They can work on the pricing part. Its pricing is a big challenge here."
"Integration with the ticketing system should allow any number of fields to be used for validation before allowing a user to be evaluated and able to access a server."
"The initial setup was somewhat complex."
"The issue of technical support is crucial, as there are not many specialized partners available in Brazil to provide this service. While English language support is of good quality, there is a significant shortage of partners capable of meeting the demand locally."
"The downside is that it's a big program. To scale excessively, locally, on an on-prem application, takes a lot of servers."
"In terms of mean time to respond, I acknowledge variable response time. The L1 team is proactive, yet the vendor often pushes to close incidents swiftly, even when issues remain unresolved."
"It should be easier to install. It is a comprehensive product, which makes it difficult to install. You need to have their consulting services in order to get it all installed and set up correctly because there is so much going on. It would be nice if there were an easier way to do the installation without professional services. I suspect they get a fair amount of their money from professional services. So, there is not a huge incentive."
"Occasionally, it's very difficult to get the solution running."
"Having the ability to easily extract and view and compare and version control configurations would be ideal."
"There is a major release going from version three to four or four to five. There seem to be issues up front, and then once you get to the third or fourth service pack to address those various issues, you're fine again."
"The application portal could be improved with more options and easier customization."
"In terms of what could be improved, I would say the security of the infrastructure and the server and the working networking device."
"I would love to see the upgrade procedure handled more effectively. I would prefer to have OVS installation possibilities, although the upgrade procedures should include the OS as well. You should be able to use the whole application as an appliance."
"Classification of junctions and new versions of applications, such as APIs, can be added to enable the use of more devices that utilize biometrics for Multi-Factor Authentication to improve the solution."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"There are additional features added to our CyberArk Privileged Access Manager license. For example, features that allow us to integrate into various kinds of platforms."
"It's expensive, certainly. But CyberArk is the leader in the market with regards to privileged access management. You pay a lot, but you are paying for the value that is being delivered."
"It's per-company, license-based."
"This solution is expensive."
"I would rate the tool’s pricing a six out of ten."
"CyberArk Privileged Access Manager is on the expensive side. It is very expensive."
"The SaaS version of CyberArk Enterprise Password Vault is very expensive, but the on-premises version is relative, e.g. depending on the size of the environment, it can be a bit pricey, but it's relatively okay compared to the others."
"I hope to learn how the pricing works so that I can understand it better, but I am certain it is not inexpensive."
"The price of the solution is average."
