Risk-based triage has transformed container security and now prioritizes high-impact threats
The best features Qualys TotalCloud offers currently include managing cloud infrastructure and container security while facing major challenges such as alert fatigue. Traditional vulnerability scanners flag hundreds of CVEs on short-lived Kubernetes containers, some of which have no internet exposure or are gone before we can even triage them. I leverage Qualys TotalCloud to move beyond static CVSS. I use it to implement runtime exposure, correlation risk reprioritization, and shift-left integration. This notifies developers to fix a base image upstream rather than patching live ephemeral instances. In my work with cloud and container security, the biggest operational hurdle was alert fatigue. I use Qualys to shift left from static CVSS severity to context-aware risk prioritization. I correlated raw vulnerability data with real-time risk factors such as public network exposure, active runtime execution, or overly permissive IAM roles. This allows us to immediately drop the priority of isolated containers and escalate lower-severity CVEs that sit on an exposed, high-risk path. We can map these findings directly back to our CI/CD pipelines so developers can patch the root base images upstream. We have drastically cut down the signal-to-noise ratio, saved a lot of manual hours doing triage work, and ensured engineering effort goes directly towards high-impact risk reduction.

Improvements sought in database optimization while benefiting from robust security monitoring
We use the analytical functionality of Guardium, but the analytical functionality is not so powerful or flexible because it does not include the application user ID. It only includes the database user ID. To identify risky users, it does not support end users, so IBM must incorporate this feature into the built-in analytical engine of the Guardium. There is only one problem I experienced while using Guardium: the internal database of the collector is MySQL, which is not so powerful or flexible. When you make a query in a MySQL database, it takes too much time to respond. IBM should replace this MySQL database with a more powerful internal database for the logging mechanism so that Guardium can collect logging data flexibly and ensure optimization. My overall experience with Guardium is good. The only problem is that IBM must replace the internal DB, MySQL, with a more powerful enterprise-level database because enterprises use it at an enterprise level, and MySQL does not support optimally.

Endpoint monitoring has become faster and has reduced alert response time for our clients
The best features that Alert Logic MDR offers include AI and behavior analysis, which I find most valuable. AI and behavior analysis mean that within AI there is static AI analysis and behavior analysis with subtypes. For example, if there is any file or a certain subtype, or if ransomware is happening, or any tool or app is being used, there are subtypes of AI. I appreciate that Alert Logic MDR has a separate AI for each type. Alert Logic MDR has positively impacted our organization by minimizing the alert SLA timing. When we used our other endpoint detection and response solution, we required at least fifteen minutes to raise one alert. After using Alert Logic MDR, we integrated it with SOAR technology, so within five minutes, the alert is raised to the client. Efficiency-wise, reducing the alert SLA timing to five minutes has been very beneficial. Whenever we receive an alert from endpoint detection and response from an endpoint to the Alert Logic MDR console, the system directly has the protect mode, conducting the kill and quarantine process itself. We only have to perform static analysis, and we have the playbooks, so they conduct some static analysis from there and directly raise the alert to the respective team.

Pros

"Once it is set up, Qualys has proved to be one of our greatest assets."
"If someone were to ask me to review Qualys TotalCloud, I would summarize it as an end-to-end solution for cloud security with visibility and governance-grade controls without needing to manage multiple disconnected tools."
"Qualys TotalCloud has saved our time by giving us better asset visibility and risk-based prioritization, as it has reduced the time spent manually reviewing CVEs and deciding what to address first."
"Qualys TotalCloud's most valuable features are its security capabilities that help identify and mitigate risk factors."
"I depend heavily on the reports that I have from this tool."
"I appreciate TotalCloud's real-time protection and remediation features. The remediation options include automated one-click remedies and custom changes that help manage vulnerabilities efficiently."
"The most valuable feature is the consolidated information that it provides from various platforms."
"Qualys TotalCloud provides unified vulnerability and threat assessment for IaaS and SaaS and a single prioritized view of risk, which helps reduce my workload by not having to combine multiple sources."
"The reporting features are good and there are many built-in reports that can be quickly configured."
"The best feature is that you can see the activity in your data environment and have the ability to get the vulnerability assessments done quickly with scores that can be compared."
"The most valuable feature is that it provides a simple English recommendation on actions that you need to take once a vulnerability is discovered."
"The Vulnerability Assessment feature is quite stable and helps identify numerous vulnerabilities in databases."
"It helped with some of the regulatory requirements, and it also helped with some of the security analytics and analysis, making it worthwhile from that perspective."
"It fully integrates with our AWS environment, which is brilliant."
"My advice would be to go ahead with the product because it really is a very good tool that adds a lot of value."
"The installation and configuration were slick."
"It's been a positive experience for us overall."
"It has the ability to install agents, it is pretty straightforward, and you can automate the process pretty easily."
"It is a very stable product."
"The quicker implementation of changes to our infrastructure from Alert Logic tell us if there are any problems."
"The most valuable aspect of Alert Logic is its technology platform. They have SOCs in the US and Europe, giving them global visibility of the threat landscape. They detect and respond to threats in minutes. Their biggest value is human expertise. You're being attacked by a human, and you cannot respond to it unless you have a human on the other side. They have the human and technological resources to respond."

Cons

"Overall, we are satisfied with it. However, the response part of the Cloud Detection and Response (CDR) module can be improved. It is not yet in place according to requirements; it is not completely available even though the module has been released."
"Qualys TotalCloud needs to improve its accuracy for non-Windows operating systems."
"With the growing integration of AI, I would like Qualys to enhance its service offerings to better accommodate AI-related risks."
"The vulnerability part is good, but the policy compliance module needs improvement because it involves a lot of manual work. Specifically, the remediation part of the controls requires enhancements."
"It is already perfect, but they can bring some newer dashboards and customization options for the dashboard. It would be great to be able to include on-prem assets on the dashboard."
"The cost of Qualys TotalCloud is high and could be more competitive."
"The patching process with Qualys Patch Management, which is part of TotalCloud, does not cover installing certain prerequisites on the servers or workstations. This shortcoming means we must rely on SCCM when any service stack updates or additional prerequisites are needed."
"To be honest, I would move out from this tool because it does not give a full view of vulnerability."
"It was not as easy to use. The user-friendliness of it was somewhat lower than what I was expecting. It was also lacking in terms of the ease of the setup. There should be an automatic agent for deployment."
"The interface could be improved by having sub-groups of tests, ultimately making the process of collecting tests faster."
"There is only one problem I experienced while using Guardium: the internal database of the collector is MySQL, which is not so powerful or flexible."
"Building policies is not that easy. There are some things that are turned off by default, for example, displaying values."
"The only problem is that some of the reports come up with blanks and missing data."
"I wouldn't use it. That would be my advice to others looking into implementing IBM Guardium Vulnerability Assessment."
"One pain point we have, for example, is if the search keyword is related inside an XML, we will get an XML; if it is a normal log, however, you will get a null pointer exception or something, and we don't get the complete trace."
"If the language barrier was addressed, it would lower the barrier for a number of German customers. It would take away a unique selling point for our own specialist managed service."
"We cannot say we have seen a return on investment ROI-wise, but our first priority is to secure the endpoint."
"Our ROI would probably be zero. We don't even use it."
"One major missing feature was the ability to see if vulnerabilities were exploitable, which required extra effort for us."
"The documentation, especially with the initial setup, needs improvement."
"We'd like to have triggered alerts sent to us so we see errors quicker."
"Its menu is not very intuitive. I would like to see the user menu expanded a bit. The user menu is very layered, and because of the layers, you have to go down a path that is not very intuitive."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"Qualys TotalCloud is cost-efficient and was selected for its value compared to other products."
"Qualys TotalCloud offers competitive pricing given its comprehensive suite of features, including integration, assessment, remediation, and detection capabilities, all within a single platform."
"Qualys TotalCloud offers good pricing that is affordable and competitive with the market. Our partnership also provides us with additional benefits."
"The pricing for TotalCloud is attractive and competitive in the market. Given the features, especially the dashboard, I have no concerns regarding pricing."
"Qualys TotalCloud is expensive."
"I am not sure about the pricing. From what I understand, it is a bit on the higher side, but I do not have the exact numbers."
"The pricing is comparable. It is built into our other product, so I cannot piecemeal it. It is a part of our subscription."
"Its price seems higher compared to other tools, but it is worth it. If they could adjust the pricing and make it comparable with other tools, that would be great."
"One thing not advantageous for it was that it was a little bit more expensive. I would rate it one out of five in terms of pricing."
"Its pricing is very reasonable considering what you get for what you pay. There is quite a good value there. Its licensing is also very logical. They've got the licensing price points at a reasonable level. It is on a monthly license but a yearly contract. There are no additional costs to the standard licensing fees."
"Our ROI would probably be zero. We don't even use it. It sits in there. We get emails and just delete them. Around the world, we don't even use it."
"Alert Logic has better competitive pricing than some of its competitors."
"Price-wise, Cybereason Managed Detection & Response is effective for larger companies, but if you have a small company with less than 1,000 employees, then it gets expensive."
"Almost any product that is on the AWS Marketplace is super easy to subscribe to."
"Price of the solution was very reasonable considering the size of our organization at the time, and so it worked out perfectly."
