Near-zero downtime has protected critical workloads and now simplifies hybrid cloud recovery
The best features of HPE Zerto Software are mainly very sophisticated and relevant to the current market. The data protection CDP part has real-time replication, unlike other solutions that have snapshot backups. We can set it up hourly, making it ideal for use with workloads. Another attraction is the near-zero RTO, with automated failover within minutes and one-click failover and failback. Currently, we are using a hybrid cloud solution, and HPE Zerto Software supports multi-cloud environments, making it easy to migrate between on-premises and cloud. Regarding the impact of HPE Zerto Software on our RTOs, we have near-zero RTO, meaning the system must be back online within thirty minutes if we measure the time. It is very quick to recover services. With HPE Zerto Software's near-synchronous replication, we have some CDP protection, so we typically write interceptions along with some asynchronous replication. There is almost real-time replication available.

User-friendly interface, and reasonably priced but the support needs improvement
While the solution is generally satisfactory, we encountered difficulties when attempting to seek assistance for issues we faced. Getting the necessary help proved to be quite challenging. The after-sales service is not ideal for French-speaking customers like us in Quebec. Unfortunately, there is no local support available for us. We are now able to work on more security-related tasks with Acronis, as they offer features such as antivirus, DLP, and various cybersecurity options. This is a significant improvement compared to our previous solution with Veeam Cloud Connect, where we were lacking such features. It also allows us to offer a wider range of security options to our customers.

Pros

"Zerto ensures a smooth transition during a disaster when we need to automatically switch from our primary environment to our recovery one."
"Real-time replication is a valuable feature, ensuring that changes made to the production site are immediately reflected at the recovery site."
"Zerto has improved my organization by allowing us to do several VM moves, bringing a server back up on the new side like a simple reboot, and reducing downtime for the servers that we migrate over."
"The first benefit was being able to sleep better at night knowing that we can recover instantly."
"HPE Zerto Software is one of the best software solutions that I have used to date."
"When we use our VMware environment, sometimes the HP hardware is not compatible, and we start to lose data. I like that we can restore our whole application and public-facing system through Zerto."
"We have seen ROI. It reduced the time for failover and failback by 90%."
"The ability to quickly bring up VMs within a test environment allows us to test our disaster recovery functions and ensures that they would function just as well in an actual disaster scenario."
"It's a stable solution."
"Replication without network changes."
"The most valuable features of Veeam Cloud Connect are its ease of use and the portal is very useful."
"The best part about this solution is that it just works."
"While there are some complexities, Veeam tries to keep the product simple and offers a good knowledge base. It's quite structured, so you can easily take one subject and learn about it simply by reading through the documentation."
"It hasn't given us any issues so far."
"I like this solution and recommend it to clients."
"The administration and management integrate with multiple solutions, not just with one or two environments, even if they're not VMware products, and we've found this to be a valuable feature."

Cons

"HPE Zerto Software could be improved by including everything in the same package. Currently, I have to administer them separately, which can be more complicated for the infrastructure team."
"Recently, they started forcing everybody to use a Linux-based appliance for their z/VMs. That appliance has been extremely touchy and, in some cases, problematic."
"If I had to pick anything, it would be the documentation for upgrades. They need to make it easier for users to do upgrades without having to contact support, by providing better documentation for that."
"Zerto's current reporting capabilities are insufficient for our needs."
"I think Zerto could do better with size planning because it would be nice to analyze a server for a week and give an estimate on sizing the Journal."
"The challenge we faced occurred during a DR for a database server running on SQL Always On. We experienced a database crash and logged a case with Zerto about a year ago. They said that they do not support Always On."
"If there is a mass of changes to a server, Zerto will restart the replication. It would be nice to know why that happens."
"The mission critical apps, like the ERP system or any casino software, are areas that I always hope to improve."
"Basically, a huge amount of storage capacity can be required in certain cases."
"We need the solution to offer IT storage."
"We are now able to work on more security-related tasks with Acronis, as they offer features such as antivirus, DLP, and various cybersecurity options. This is a significant improvement compared to our previous solution with Veeam Cloud Connect, where we were lacking such features. It also allows us to offer a wider range of security options to our customers."
"I would like to see more advanced training courses made available to cover complicated use cases."
"The dashboard could be more intuitive."
"I think Veeam Cloud Connect could be more stable, scalable, and secure. I think better pricing is needed."
"Doesn't back-up from KVM."
"It would be helpful if the enterprise edition was more complete. It's not as complete as the enterprise plus edition is."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"It is expensive."
"The pricing is good. It's affordable."
"You are getting what you pay for, as this is a solution that requires minimal management after it is configured."
"It is not the cheapest product; it is not the most expensive product, but it works. It is a mid-range product, and it is justified in terms of being pretty quick and easy."
"Its price can be better, but it is not bad. Most small-scale organizations can afford it, but they can come up with more customer-friendly packages."
"We believe the pricing, setup costs, and licensing are easy to understand. The pricing seems very reasonable."
"As far as I know, the pricing is around $1,000 per VM, but Zerto is changing the pricing model to more of an enterprise-class license. I don't know if there are any additional costs or fees."
"In a world where others are catching up, e.g., VMware High Availability, there needs to be a less expensive option as well. When a customer has approximately 100 VMs, if you multiply by 40, we aren't charging a very high margin on it at all since the license is so expensive. We feel their pain. That is the most expensive part of it. The storage, CPU, and RAM are a lot less. It is the licensing that is really expensive. Whereas, with an option like VMware High Availability, it is a couple dollars per month. That is our spend that we are charged by VMware, then our margin is higher on those VMs. Giving us some ability to have higher margins, as an MSP, would be a good thing."
"I think that this is one of the most cost-effective solutions."
"We are looking into how we can extend the license of this product."
"The licensing is MSP-based. It is connected to the portal, and you can deploy it to your end users as well."
"It's not the cheapest solution on the market but it's reliable, so we find it cost-effective."
"The price of the solution is reasonable because of our good standing with the vendor."
"The price of the solution could be cheaper. There are monthly or yearly subscription options available. The annual subscription tends to be cheaper."
"The pricing of Veeam Cloud Connect is good."
"The licensing fee is on a monthly basis."
