Gained full visibility and streamlined threat detection through behavior-based insights and AI integration
Initially, we got to have a lot of false positives when we onboarded, but nowadays it's quite smooth. We have fine-tuned our security policies and allowed different levels of policies to get rid of those false positives. Currently, we are getting a fairly good amount of incidents that are not false positives or benign, but actionable items. The process is streamlined. In the initial days, the operations used to get involved in a lot of benign and other activities, but now the process is streamlined. We are leveraging the auto-detection and remediation plans. The operations teams are now more involved in other business roles as well, not just looking into the logs and fetching out what's happening there. They have fixed a lot of things. Initially, they didn't have IAC code drift detection, cloud posture management, or security posture management, but they have those now. They purchased different vendors and did a merger with that. They have now Prisma Cloud that gets integrated and now they are working with Cortex Cloud. Everything that was negative has now been addressed, and the product altogether looks to be in a very better and mature shape now. Currently, it's more or less detecting the workloads with AI-based best practices. Since most organizations are consuming AI agents and other things, we are looking forward to seeing what other feature enhancements Palo Alto can support in that.

The tool's deployment is easy. HP Wolf Security's deployment was a swift process since it was initially compatible with Windows 10, the operating system on both machines. However, when I transitioned to Windows 11, I encountered minor issues that prompted me to delve deeper into Wolf Security to fine-tune security settings according to my preferences. While I mostly used default settings, there was an initial adjustment where I disabled the AI function related to malware. Currently, the system is running smoothly with no reported issues. Adjusting some settings raised concerns about compatibility between HP Wolf Security and Norton 360. Specifically, aspects of HP Wolf Security, such as the virtual machine component, intrigued me, but I hesitated due to potential conflicts. During my investigation, Windows 11 raised a flag, questioning the system's security settings with Norton 360 and HP Wolf Security. However, it seems that they coexist well without causing issues.

In my experience, the best features Red Canary offers are their team, their monitoring team, their expertise at incident investigation, and a focus on suspicious or actual indicators of compromise to ensure that we're not spending time just reviewing logs, but that we're actually looking at things that may indicate we have broader issues. The Red Canary team's expertise stands out compared to others I've worked with because their team is organized into smaller pods that support a given number of clients, so they're not just a bevy of operators going around the clock. The teams themselves have coordination and cohesion, and they get to know us. Their integrations into the different platforms and systems that we use all line up with our needs, whereas a number of other platforms offered a different variety of integrations that did not line up with our requirements. Red Canary has positively impacted my organization because I don't have to spend and hire resources to look at logs, which has enabled us to do much more in terms of improving security across the organization. With the freed-up resources, we've been able to implement CSPM, SAST, software testing tooling, and engage much more closely with our developers and engineers to focus on secure architecture and design.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"Its ability to react to cyber data attacks is awesome. That is pretty much the use of it. What blows your mind is the ability to access your assets remotely and see what is actually going on with them. You can not only see them in a console. You can also react very rapidly to your assets that are compromised."
"The product has an intuitive dashboard."
"From a single pane of glass, you can easily manage all of your endpoints."
"If you are looking to deploy a security solution as a whole, this is a good option."
"These days it's machine-learning technology and behavior-based analytics features that make us more secure."
"The one feature of Palo Alto Networks Traps that our organization finds most valuable is the App ID service."
"Palo Alto is constantly adding new features."
"The policy configuration is great, the granularity of policies that are available is very helpful, it is straightforward to set up, and it has pretty much everything we need and works well within the Palo Alto ecosystem."
"The isolation feature is the most important because it prevents attacks."
"Our security posture has improved; it has definitely contained and prevented some malicious attacks from happening."
"Looking at it in the big picture of the risk that you're mitigating and the protection that you're getting, it's phenomenal."
"Our overall security posture has absolutely improved as a result of adding Bromium to our security stack."
"I use HP Wolf Security to add a layer of safety, especially for laptops operating in various environments."
"The feature that stands out the most is that when someone clicks on a link in an email... [if] that link is malicious and it has some malware or keylogger attached to it, when it opens up in that Bromium virtualized browser, there's no chance of it actually being on the machine and running, because as soon as they click that "X" in the upper right-hand side of the browser, everything just vanishes. That is an added plus."
"Bromium allows us to safely view images and quickly and safely surf our network so that we can take proper care of our patients efficiently, effectively, and expeditiously."
"It has reduced the number of virus and malware incidents and calls we have received compared to prior to deploying this product, and our overall security posture has improved."
"I recommended Red Canary to my friends who work in other organizations."
"The valuable features of this solution are it integrates well with different EDR software, such CrowdStrike, and Carbon Black, and the information it provides is helpful."
"Red Canary has positively impacted my organization because I don't have to spend and hire resources to look at logs, which has enabled us to do much more in terms of improving security across the organization."
"The near real-time review translates into near real-time action. So, in addition to alerting, Red Canary MDR has response playbooks built out."
"The most valuable feature of the solution is its automation part."
"The solution works well for what we use it for and the support and protection are good."
"I am satisfied with this solution and it is very competitive with other similar EDR or MDR solutions because it provides very impressive information about the root cause of the threat, such as malware."

Cons

"Technology evolves every day, so it would be nice if it gets more secure. It can also have more integration with other platforms."
"Traps doesn't work with McAfee. You need to remove McAfee to install Traps. This is very common, and its nothing that should be an issue. Some antivirus engines recognize Traps as an threat component, so maybe they need to shake hands somewhere."
"The playbooks could be improved to include more functionalities or actions."
"The main issue I could point out is the offline agents and the way that it is missing."
"I would like to see some additional features related to email protection included."
"The price could be a little lower."
"If they had pulse rate detection, it would be better."
"This is a very costly product."
"Room for improvement would be keeping up with the rate of change, specifically on Windows platforms. There are a lot of updates that come out for Microsoft Windows operating systems and the Bromium product needs to be able to keep up quickly with those updates and all the browser updates that are coming out. It's hard to do, but that's really where they need to be more responsive because we end up with problems and then we have to call support to get patches, etc."
"Reporting is one of the shortcomings of the product. We do mine the data that's in there from a forensics perspective... It becomes very difficult because you have to spend a lot of time digging through the volumes of data. Reporting is absolutely the biggest shortcoming."
"After a major release, there's always a lot of "dust settling." You have to work through all those issues and then you're fine for a while. The problem is, it's stable, it's fine, until the next major release comes out. Then you go back into the cycle again of uncertainty, instability, working through issues until they have patched and remediated all the problems that you're having. It's not unlike any other vendor though"
"They have always struggled with usability. The protection that it offers you is tremendous, but there's definitely an impact with use of resources on the computer. It's gotten a lot better now with Win 10. But sometimes, when you open up a website, it's going to take longer than it would without Bromium, and it's the same with documents."
"They have always struggled with usability. The endpoint protection that it offers you is tremendous, but there's definitely an impact with use of resources on the computer."
"I did not find this to be an out-of-the-box solution, it required planning and alignment across many groups."

"Reporting is one of the shortcomings of the product. It becomes very difficult because you have to spend a lot of time digging through the volumes of data."
"I would like there to be an on-premise version of this solution for our data centers because of the proliferation of online threats."

"Red Canary's pricing spectrum may not be ideal for smaller financial institutions."
"The price could always be better."
"The most valuable feature of Red Canary MDR is the overall threat protection it provides."
"In general, the solution currently fails to provide a summary to its users."
"Red Canary can be improved by continuing to add new features and capabilities to what they are looking at, including the types of data they're looking at and the types of systems that they're integrating with."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"The pricing is a little bit on the expensive side."
"Our customers have expressed that the price is high."
"We didn't have to pay any additional fee for the cloud instance. It just came with the renewal, which was nice."
"The pricing is a little high. It is per user per year."
"The solution is expensive. It's pricing is on a yearly-basis."
"The price of the product is not very economical."
"I feel it is fairly priced."
"I did PoCs on products called Cylance and CrowdStrike. Although, I consider these products and they were also good, when it come to cost and budgetary factors, Traps has been proven to be better than the other two products. It is quite cost-effective and delivers all the entire solution which we require."
"Pricing is reasonable."
"The pricing is very fair compared to the competition. The licensing is straightforward."
"The product's pricing is a good value. We only run it on our internet-facing workstations, we don't run it on everything in our environment. We are very selective. Some organizations may want to consider doing something like that to reduce their license count."
"I think the pricing is a good value. All of these security products are always going to be very expensive, but I don't think Bromium is unreasonable. I think Bromium is decently priced. It’s a tiered licensing platform. The more you buy, the cheaper gets per unit, and I think their tiers are very well defined. I think they're fair."
"The product came as a bundle with the machine."
"Red Canary MDR I use is an open-source tool."
"I have not compared Red Canary to other solutions to know if the price is high or low. However, I have found the price of this solution fair and reasonable, it cost approximately $100 per year, per device. If they could provide the solution for $50 per year, per device, it would be better."
"The solution could vary in price depending on how many endpoints a company has."
