Lacks multi-platform support and physical infrastructure but excels in storage optimization
We use it for VM backup and Office 365 backup I find the solution to be user-friendly and easy to manage and deploy. It provides storage for Office 365, which is beneficial, and the deduplication technology is excellent, especially in optimizing storage capacity compared to others. In terms of…

A mature backup solution, with many features, and great support
Veritas NetBackup is the first line of defense when disaster strikes. Before performing disaster recovery, we must have a good backup of our image that is also protected from ransomware. This way, we have a golden image that is resilient to ransomware attacks. We saw the benefits of Veritas NetBackup within the first three months.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"We use the latest feature in Altaro called CDP (Continuous Data Protection) to back up our VMs as often as every five minutes. It allows us to make sure no data is accidentally deleted or overwritten."
"This solution is stable."
"The ease of use of the solution is its most valuable feature. The interface is also excellent."
"The intuitive interface allows you to set up and perform backups and restores easily."
"Reverse Delta is Altaro proprietary backup deduplication technology. With Reverse Delta, the latest version of a file is always made available in its entirety, not as a delta file."
"The product has many valuable features for handling backup needs, including replication, live migration, and incremental disaster recovery."
"We frequently use the granular restore option for when our users accidentally delete files or to recover emails from mailboxes. We have found that to be a must-have feature and it comes with the solution at no extra cost."
"Hornetsecurity Altaro VM Backup's most valuable features include its user-friendly interface and the ability to perform data compression updates, which enhance overall efficiency and effectiveness."
"I have found the Media Server Deduplication tool, deployment policies, and agentless features to be the most valuable features."
"It is important, when we chose a solution, that the customer service/technical support team could help us when we needed it, but the support was good."
"The backup and restore functions are very valuable aspects of the product."
"It provides us with the versatility to back up everything we require which eliminates the need for a secondary backup solution."
"It's durable — we achieve what we expect from it."
"The most valuable feature of cloud integration is the ability to send data outside of your location. This can be achieved by integrating cloud tier options or other object storage solutions."
"Ease of installing, configuring, upgrading, and troubleshooting."
"I think this is the best backup solution that we have. It is very good for the infrastructure."

Cons

"The cloud backup and VMware support (now available in the latest releases), could do with some improvement."
"Replication is not fast, the GUI could be more user-friendly, and technical support is lacking in Iran."
"If you look into the performance of a virtual machine and you look to the performance of the physical machine, the correlation between these is totally unclear."
"The solution needs multi-platform support as it is currently only available for VMware and Hyper-V."
"Availability of physical server backup would be an added advantage."
"Basically, how it works is that you have a single local drive, and then you have a cloud backup. It'd be nice if you could rotate the single local backup drive. As of now, you can't."
"Hornetsecurity Altaro VM Backup could be improved in several areas, such as enhancing scalability features and possibly reducing the price."
"Improvement areas for Altaro VM Backup include enhancing backup and deduplication solutions for continuous operation and offering an all-in-one solution for hardware backup."
"It would be helpful, in future releases, if the solution could add WORM (Write Once Read Many) support right within the product."
"What needs to be improved in Veritas NetBackup is its interface, e.g. they should make it more user friendly. Scalability for this product could still be improved, particularly its hardware appliance scalability."
"It needs support for Kernel-based Virtual Machines (KVMs)."
"There is a big change in Veritas. In the past, we could easily change servers or appliances and continue working by restoring the catalog. We could change servers from Linux to Linux or Linux to Solaris and perform catalog restores to continue working. But with the new version, we are forced to engage Veritas' professional services, which is too expensive."
"I do not really like NetBackup as it is coming from a mix of other software packages."
"The solution's technical support process should be improved."
"Enhancing reporting across the board would be beneficial."
"Veritas could simplify the firmware recovery in terms of the deployed. The process shouldn't be dependent on the agents. It should be completely agentless."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"No other product offers these features for this price. The ROI is great."
"By implementing the solution at multiple locations, significant cost savings were achieved."
"The pricing is okay,"
"VMware is a little pricey, but it is a good solution and priced similar to other products."
"The price is great for the utility you get and the licensing has never caused any issues with my company."
"There is a free version for two VMs. I would advise to study the deployment environment well, prior to committing to order a license per host."
"Its yearly maintenance fee is fairly high for me to renew for upgrades and support."
"Altaro had the best prices and ROI in the whole bunch that we evaluated."
"When we consider the quality and value of Veritas NetBackup, it is worth the cost."
"We are very satisfied with the price of this solution."
"If you have a complex environment with dozens of different servers and apps, I recommend you look for TB licensing."
"The price is fair."
"The licensing model for this solution is very powerful."
"The licensing model is cost-prohibitive as you scale out."
"Veritas NetBackup is very expensive, and I think price is the main reason which some customers don't want to use this solution."
"My licensing model is based on capacity so as we grow, the price we pay increases and it becomes too expensive."
