We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"I found value in the instant recovery with DataMove. I found value in the protection group model for applying policies to VMs. And in the overall UI navigation and the way that the application is laid out in the web browser.""We are very satisfied with the product as a whole—all the backup functions, the data protection functions. We are very satisfied with those, and the product is very simple to use.""The enterprise search and instant restore are pretty valuable. Also, the Helios stuff is pretty good and the SAS engine for ransom malware detection.""The most valuable aspect for me is that I don't have to deal with media in terms of tapes like our existing system does.""The initial setup is easy.""It works well with backup virtual machines and SQL services we have been using.""The solution is stable.""The system automatically takes down the nodes one at a time and performs the upgrade and brings the node back up before proceeding to the next. Upgrades can now be done at any time with a high level of confidence."

"The product is stable and reliable.""Veritas NetBackup is very stable and scales out very well.""The solution is easy to scale.""If you are running on a legacy tape environment NetBackup is best.""Unauthorized people cannot log in and execute commands.""There's a very nice central console for the administration of all of the instances.""Includes snapshots and multiple database agents.""Veritas NetBackup is a scalable solution."

Cons
"I like that Cohesity offers the chance to have data on-premises and on the cloud. All the data is automatically sent to the cloud.""The platform has certain limitations, mostly stemming from the restrictions imposed by the VMware API and some other factors. One area where there is room for improvement is the tracking of replicated copies, especially in the context of remote archive duplication.""Better support for legacy platforms would be nice, but we should be moving off those anyway.""In terms of the product itself, there have been a handful of patches that have had to be applied outside of the GUI via the command line. It's very straightforward and easy and in the same redundant fashion, but not quite as simple as one or two clicks. I'm hoping that will decrease going forward.""We aren't missing any features. In terms of the solution overall, it's so far so good.""Their UI requires a manual refresh. It doesn't seem like it updates itself sometimes when you're moving from screens or waiting for a change to take effect, so you have to manually refresh.""The solution has a more complex setup than Veritas and Veeam.""Better documentation is needed because the lack of information has necessitated having our team depend more heavily on Cohesity support."

More Cohesity DataProtect Cons →

"They need to work on the GUI. It has been the same for the last 10 years.""The most common problem is the backup failures over the weekend. We have to troubleshoot and sometimes do restores and then we have trouble doing some of the restores.""Maybe they could add more cloud solutions.""System administrators would be more efficient in NetBackup if the number of tools and command lines was reduced.""Extra features come with additional costs.""Like the other enterprise solutions, Veritas NetBackup isn't easy to implement. It's a little bit hard compared to other solutions like Data Protector for HPE. You have to struggle to learn a lot of features that Veritas NetBackup offers to customers.""They need to improve their support. In the beginning, their engineers had trouble understanding the issue we were presenting. It took a lot of conversations for them to start troubleshooting the problem.""The restoration method and the compression ratio need improvement."

Pricing and Cost Advice
  • "It has reasonable pricing, and we know they can give discounts. If you look at the primary pricing or the list pricing, it conforms to the market pricing, but you have to have a discount on it. Otherwise, it is way too expensive."
  • "The solution's pricing is quite high, more so than that of its competitors, Veeam, Veritas and Rubrik."
  • "The pricing model is impressive and very effective."
  • "From my last assessment, the pricing for Cohesity DataProtect was reasonable. Compared to its closest competitor, Rubrik, I found Rubrik's pricing to be somewhat high-end. While Rubrik may have more advanced security features than Cohesity DataProtect currently, Cohesity DataProtect is releasing a new solution in the near future that will compete directly with Rubrik."
  • More Cohesity DataProtect Pricing and Cost Advice →

  • "The price is okay."
  • "There is a license required for this solution and it is priced based upon the data used."
  • "Our license is capacity-based."
  • "Veritas NetBackup is very expensive, and I think price is the main reason which some customers don't want to use this solution."
  • "The price of NetBackup is okay. I think it's a little bit expensive but manageable. It has a lot of features, and the backup is better than most applications, so I think the price is competitive."
  • "It is slightly more expensive than Commvault, but it is pretty much the same. It is an enterprise solution, so it scales quite well. It has a lot of features. So, you pay for what you get. It is not cheap, but it is fit for the purpose."
  • "We purchased a perpetual license and perform SMS renewals."
  • "Veritas NetBackup is considerably cheaper than that of Druva, the former being quite affordable."

NetBackup securely restores and backs up files, raw partitions, and directories on a server known as a media server. A server protected by NetBackup is referred to as a NetBackup client. Reviews from Real Users

Mahdi B., Solution Architect and IT Consultant at Merdasco - Rayan Merdas Data Processing, says, “Veritas integrates well with the cloud, all databases, all operating systems, all hardware, and all software. Veritas also has solid malware and ransomware protection features. From time to time, we face a new kind of attack, and Veritas has always proven to be the best protection solution for some of my customers. Our customers who have faced ransomware attacks were able to recover their data in less than one day without any stress. Veritas is ransomware resilient and because of its implementation, it is not dependent on the operating system to work. Most of the functions of the Veritas software are isolated from the operating system and it's not dependent on the operating systems involved. This is very important. When some of our operating systems are infected by a virus, Veritas still works perfectly and protects our data. This feature is very well implemented in Veritas NetBackup.”

A PeerSpot user who is a General Manager at a comms service provider relates, “Veritas enterprise has many agents who perform the backup, whether it is a consistent backup or recorded backup. The solution has everything from the snapshot to the multiple database agents.”

Mir-Ali, Infrastructure Manager - Oracle SCM at a financial services firm, shares, “It covers all kinds of different architectures. Plus, it's very user-friendly and it is very reliable. Reliability is the most important thing because once the backup is done, if it is successful, then we're sure that it was successful and we will be able to restore it.”
