Quotes From Members
We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"After linking a cloud subscription, like Azure for example (AWS and Google are also supported), you can "spin" a VM onto the cloud from any backup snapshot.""We are very satisfied with the product as a whole—all the backup functions, the data protection functions. We are very satisfied with those, and the product is very simple to use.""The product is easy to put in place. All backups are done very quickly. It's easy to perform restores. What I prefer in the product is its simplicity. There are no useless settings to define, and everything is ready after the initial setup.""The system automatically takes down the nodes one at a time and performs the upgrade and brings the node back up before proceeding to the next. Upgrades can now be done at any time with a high level of confidence.""The most valuable aspect for me is that I don't have to deal with media in terms of tapes like our existing system does.""Cohesity's web-scale architecture enables us to scale up as needed.""The dashboard is very rich and provides details needed for a moderator.""By using their Helios Cloud service, you have all your clusters, no matter where they are located, in one web portal."

"Unauthorized people cannot log in and execute commands.""The backup and restore functions are very valuable aspects of the product.""We are quite satisfied with the performance and reliability of the NetBackup product. When it comes to specific features, the most valuable is the Instant Recovery feature, which we call "short-term IR". Instant Recovery allows users to spin up backup images and bring back any VM instantly.""It is a good solution. It covers most of the applications.""The solution is easy to scale.""I have found the Media Server Deduplication tool, deployment policies, and agentless features to be the most valuable features.""It's durable — we achieve what we expect from it.""The features are good."

Cons
"We would love to see direct compatibility with HPE Simplivity, which we also leverage.""Their UI requires a manual refresh. It doesn't seem like it updates itself sometimes when you're moving from screens or waiting for a change to take effect, so you have to manually refresh.""The error handling could be improved.""Cohesity cluster upgrades have not been as easy as a single button click. They are a manual process that requires upgrading each node into a cluster individually.""We have had our share of minor bugs over the past two years and a few bigger ones.""Features I would like to see include a more visible data lifecycle monitoring tab, and an easier to read backup status dashboard.""Better support for legacy platforms would be nice, but we should be moving off those anyway.""The one area where we would like to see additional improvements is with reporting. There are very granular reports from each grid. There are also some built-in reports within Helios (SAS Management Console) that offers basic reporting. However, for complex, large-enterprise environments, a more robust reporting engine that supports detailed audit reporting and enhanced ad hoc reports would be welcome."

"We would like the Java console to be updated.""Its integration with Nutanix and technical support can be improved.""Like the other enterprise solutions, Veritas NetBackup isn't easy to implement. It's a little bit hard compared to other solutions like Data Protector for HPE. You have to struggle to learn a lot of features that Veritas NetBackup offers to customers.""Maybe they could add more cloud solutions.""Lacks a reporting feature.""It would be extremely helpful if the solution offered near-zero recovery time for SQL.""I think reporting can always be improved.""The deployment time is longer than it is with other products."

Pricing and Cost Advice
  • "With respect to pricing, make sure that you look at both Rubrik and Cohesity as they are very similar and are quite competitive."
  • "I expect the system to probably pay off within the first two years."
  • "Sizing is important and it is easy to overestimate."
  • "Pricing, setup costs, etc. are pretty typical. The initial cost for Cohesity was less than other products the we evaluated. Cohesity's pricing does offer benefits as DR target costs are less than other solutions. You are not charged for DataProtect licensing for target DR data consumption."
  • "The pricing model is impressive and very effective."
  • "My advice is to always negotiate for better pricing."
  • "It has reasonable pricing, and we know they can give discounts. If you look at the primary pricing or the list pricing, it conforms to the market pricing, but you have to have a discount on it. Otherwise, it is way too expensive."
  • "The solution's pricing is quite high, more so than that of its competitors, Veeam, Veritas and Rubrik."

  • "If you have a source size of one terabyte then they will charge for a one terabyte license, although what is actually being stored is much less."
  • "My licensing model is based on capacity so as we grow, the price we pay increases and it becomes too expensive."
  • "Licensing fees are charged based on the number of CPU cores."
  • "We are happy with the pricing that we have, but it's expensive."
  • "It is very expensive. The licensing cost for this solution is on a yearly basis. It is approximately 50k. We will continue using it at least for the next year, but we are currently doing an analysis to switch to some other solution."
  • "Pricing is good, under our budget, and flexible."
  • "A better price would make this product more competitive."
  • "In terms of cost, it's not very good."
