Has improved performance for mission-critical workloads and enabled seamless non-disruptive upgrades
The availability is 99.99%, which is the main factor any customer would need because their data should be available whenever they want to access it. This is one main critical thing. It is very easy to upgrade since Pure Storage FlashArray handles it well. Everything is non-disruptive now; previously, there were forklift shifts, but now that is not the case. Pure Storage FlashArray says no to forklift upgrades. Usually hardware requires downtime, but Pure Storage FlashArray has improved their footprint so that they are not asking for downtime; everything is just a non-disruptive activity, which is why customers are more inclined towards Pure Storage FlashArray. Customers want more of the models in their environment due to the performance they are giving, and everything is in one Pure1 Array console where we can view all the models on one page or just an orchestration tool. You don't miss anything; you have replication, notifications about replication, and details about which host groups replication is happening in and if that replication is successful or failed. On a daily basis, our purpose is to create volumes for infrastructure; our daily activities include creating volumes and mapping them to the host, doing any migrations from a VM, clearing the data stores, and carving the volumes to those VMs. One key factor is the data compression with a ratio of 5:1, focusing on space efficiency, inline deduplication, and the compression Pure Storage FlashArray works on; that is a major factor we can suggest to any customer. Analytical capabilities are crucial. Daily, we check the throughput and consumption, and Pure Storage FlashArray provides predictions for one year regarding usage. This prediction helps plan updates well ahead. For support, we just raise a case, and they follow up and get it done. There is also AI readiness, but with the model R2, we don't have much of that AI readiness. For others, we do have AI readiness that predicts capacity based on daily or monthly trends, enabling us to analyze how much space we need or if we need to expand the disk shelf. From an operational point of view, a good feature is that if you accidentally delete a volume, it will be retained in the destroyed state for the next twenty-four hours, which is not the same with any other vendor. I have worked in this storage domain for the past fifteen years, and this option is remarkable, benefiting any L1 or L2 engineer. Additionally, from a compliance perspective, Pure Storage FlashArray has REST APIs enabled. I have not explored automation much, but from a security standpoint, it is strong with encryption data. If you want to automate, you can easily integrate with all clouds and explore Pure Cloud for scheduling workloads, including volume creation. Customers find benefit in Pure Storage FlashArray's single management pane of glass due to the dual controller and active-active setup. If one of the controllers goes down, all workloads automatically shift to the other controller, ensuring their data is safe and accessible at all times. This is a highlighted feature that any customer desires because their data should always be accessible. For SAN workloads, we use Pure Storage FlashArray because for SAN FC fiber channel, we don't use it; we use NetApp for NAS activities. We have clearly split this, so SAN is for mission-critical applications, while network-attached storage handles file systems. This architecture helps us maximize the benefit from Pure Storage FlashArray due to the significant workloads from this giant retail client. From a footprint and energy consumption perspective, you can see energy consumption from the Pure1 storage portal on a daily basis, and it is very compact. The three models we use consume only three units, which is quite low. From a footprint and data center perspective, it doesn't occupy much space. As everything moves to cloud, there are requirements to avoid excess spending on data centers, and Pure Storage FlashArray is efficient in energy consumption and is environmentally friendly.

Good price-performance ratio, provides simplified provisioning and management
We use this solution for provisioning and management The most valuable features are simplified provisioning and management, de-duplication, and built-in encryption. The exterior display needs to be improved. Sorry, I like the blue lights the competition has, but maybe we can see green led lights…

Offers high performance and dependable support for fast storage needs
The most valuable feature of IBM FlashSystem is its robust back code. When integrated properly into the environment and configured according to the guidelines, it provides a very solid infrastructure that does the job on demand. Additionally, IBM FlashSystem offers competitive pricing and reliable performance. The hardware is dependable, ensuring that it functions effectively when the setup is done correctly.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"Technical support is very good."
"The ease of use. That's what our customers love. They say it's very easy, they don't need special training, they don't need to call us or any other company or integrator to help them do their job. That's the main reason they purchase Pure."
"Compared to Unity, these arrays offer significant advantages, such as NVMe technology and higher IOPS."
"This solution has improved our organization in the way that we used to see latency but now with this solution we don't, and it also has good performance."
"I never have to worry about its performance or if it is the root cause of an issue."
"The GUI is very easy to use and intuitive."
"There was a dramatic improvement in operating costs just as a result of the environmentals and space, let alone the cost of the unit itself."
"All updates, upgrades, and hardware work are all performed on-line with no impact."
"This solution had the best cost and it was easy to work with the Vendor."
"The most valuable features are simplified provisioning and management, de-duplication, and built-in encryption."
"The most valuable features are, of course, the virtualization of the storage, the performance, and the compression."
"The ease-of-use and scalability are the most valuable features."
"IBM FlashSystem is a powerful effective storage solution, and it is user-friendly, anyone can use it."
"This is definitely a product I can recommend based on its performance and reliability."
"The initial setup is straightforward and can be done in an hour and a half by one person."
"Parsing is the most valuable feature inside IBM Spectrum Virtualize software, which allows us to virtualize any third-party storage for IBM or non-IBM systems."
"One of the valuable features is the performance, it is one of the best in the market."
"Most of the features for the reduction in data compression are useful. It is also very easy to use and administer. Its performance is also good."

Cons

"The solution needs an integrated NAS platform, file platform."
"For scalability, I rate it a six out of ten. We reach a limit. We never reached this limit, however, the architecture allows you to go until a certain size, and after that, you have to buy another array."
"The credentials on the iSCSI interface are only available to type in with the Chrome browser, and not with the Firefox browser."
"This product has only two active controllers, whereas other solutions can have more. This is something that needs to improve."
"There is not a great need for improvement, but better pricing could be beneficial."
"In Pure Storage FlashArray, the area with room for improvement is local MFA login."
"Pure Storage FlashArray has not helped decrease the total cost of ownership."
"The price could be better."
"The exterior display needs to be improved."
"The exterior display needs to be improved."
"It has room for improvement in the area of stability."
"With regards to the IBM V7000 storage system, where we have multiple tiers of storage, a heat map would show I/O distribution across the tiers of storage."
"The GUI needs some improvement. An additional function that could be helpful is reducing the time it takes to delete volumes, especially if they are compressed or deduplicated."
"At the beginning of every year, IBM releases firmware. When I find any bugs in the firmware during the year, I am unable to find any information from IBM regarding the bug."
"The solution is not easy to use and could improve."
"They can improve its initial configuration. The initial configuration is currently very difficult. There are multiple choices or alternative ways to configure based on the use case and what you are targeting out of the device, that is, more capacity or more performance. These multiple alternatives cause a lot of confusion. They should increase the processing part of the nodes. Currently, you can cluster up to eight nodes. From my experience and the workload that I am facing in my environment currently, I would like to see either a bigger or stronger node or a larger number of nodes that can be clustered together. We formally communicated to them that we need to see either this or that, and they are working on something."
"The price is very costly, which could be improved."
"The security features can be improved such that the encryption does not affect performance in any way."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"We feel that the pricing is fair and the licensing process was easy for both."
"Because the price is a bit higher than other products, the data reduction equalizes the price with amount of the data reduction."
"The price, in general, is around $100,000, however, I know it costs more."
"Pure Storage has not helped us to reduce our licensing costs."
"The cost was initially high, but once more people were using it, the costs came down. This was because the University was reselling it to other departments."
"The licensing is $100,000."
"The price of the Pure Storage Flash Array is too high and there needs to be more contact clarity. We went with the Evergreen plan and I don't have clarity on what am I supposed to pay each year or every three years. There was not much contract clarity."
"Pricing is very competitive, and it's better than other competitors."
"This solution has a good price-performance ratio."
"This solution is expensive compared to other solutions."
"You purchase it as a bundle and the price is comparable."
"Overall the price of the solution is expensive and this includes the license."
"Its price is very good."
"The solution has good pricing, but it is not cheaper."
"It pays to go back and get the best price you can from your supplier. The first offer is not always at the best discount."
"They've been much more aggressive in the last five, six years than they were before that."
"The pricing is competitive in our country."
