Quotes From Members
We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"What's most valuable for me in ExtremeCloud IQ is easy management. It also has centralized administration, so you don't have to go to the customer site to program it. It can be programmed remotely.""It is more cost effective and gives more flexibility.""App and firewall security at the AP.""a true controller-less approach, where each Access Point is 100% independent from the management system.""Ability to assign zero trust policies from the user.""It excels in Wi-Fi and switch management, as well as other internal management aspects, offering speed and efficiency that surpass what other competitors provide.""When we deployed the new IP that is managed wirelessly in the cloud, it fixed the problems. Now, we don't have any more reports, and everything works fine.""The support organization behind this product is extremely professional."

"The solution has good features for authentication, policies, and allowing users to self-provision devices for network access via their logins.""The ease of use is great, and the automation wizards can do a lot.""I find the solution to be very rich in features.""The solution is easy to use, well designed, robust, and has good traffic capacity.""The tool's most valuable features include the phenomenal functionality of DPSK. The ease of use, particularly when it is correctly set up, is remarkably simple. Tracking users is straightforward and dynamic. This allows us to identify where a user might encounter issues within the process.""Ruckus technical support is very good and helpful whenever we need them."

Cons
"The solution will show us that there are some issues, but when we try to find those issues, we can't see them.""I would like to see a remote phone application for monitoring APs when on the road.""I know a school district, a big school district of mine, ripped out Extreme due to inefficiencies. It was the guest network that can be a struggle. They tried to differentiate between their primary network, and then offer a secondary.""There can be an improvement by incorporating two-factor authentication or multi-factor authentication for security. Advanced network access control features and application control features should be added to manage applications. Many customers are interested in managing data, such as setting data quotas for individual users.""A mobile app would be awesome.""For me, the only issue is the potential delay in the tool statistics updating in real time after making changes.""Certain features only exist or work in certain versions.""From our perspective, we would love to see Aerohive provide faster feature enhancement in their Virtual Appliance to match the features with the cloud solution more quickly."

"The tool needs to support multi-vendor environments. Currently, my experience with it has been primarily within Ruckus environments. However, I haven't explored it for multi-vendor scenarios. It would be great to see newer builds that are multi-vendor capable of full integration.""The hardest part we've had to deal with is trying to find some physical product recently as everything is going like hotcakes.""The scalability could be better.""I believe the solution is missing some great features which are present in other solutions like Aruba, UiPath, and Cisco ISE.""The setup process is a bit complex.""The solution could improve by adding more detailed information that customers have available on the dashboards."

Pricing and Cost Advice
  • "Although the pricing is a bit high, I consider Aerohive to be well worth the money."
  • "Buy near the end of Q4 in order to get a deal."
  • "Bring the cost down."
  • "I would advise that you be sure to compare apples with apples. Many customers just look at the price per AP and licences, and compare that against other solutions. But, they do not look at the complete picture such as: TCO - how much the equipment will cost you over, say, seven years? Will the customer need to change complete infrastructure when they want to buy the newest hardware? Does support include a lifetime warranty and RMA?"
  • "For example, if you compare Aruba vs Aerohive, you need to check which licences from Aruba you need to match the functionality of Aerohive (usually you need at least three types of licences and a controller with redundancy). The same goes with Cisco, where you need buy additional licences for central management, firewall, spectral analysis, WIPS, PPSK, etc. Aerohive has a very simple model - one licence for all the functionalities - and you can believe that there are many. One licence makes it easy to maintain, scale, renew and you can plan your costs 10 years in advance."
  • "Start small and grow big. You can choose the basic Aerohive Connect free subscription solution and, later, if needed (in terms of functionality) you can upgrade to Aerohive Select."
  • "There are probably cheaper solutions but we invest for stability and performance for the longer haul."
  • "I did a multi-year license. It was a three-year license. It compares well with others in terms of the price. It is about a hundred dollars per year on a three-year scale."

  • "The licensing of the solution is user-based and the price is good."
  • "The cost was somewhere around $700 for the access points, however, there was a discount."
  • "The pricing is a little bit high."
  • "I would rate the tool's pricing as a seven on a scale of one to ten. Compared to others, it's not overly expensive, but it does come with a cost. Since it's a licensed-based product, it can become expensive, especially if there is a need for additional licenses."
