it was (previously) not aesthetically pleasing. It's more user friendly, now. They changed the interface, so there's not so many duplicate screens.
The number one way they improved this product was something called workspaces. This is like a dashboard meant for, depending on your role with a specific organization, so maybe if you're in accounting and financials, you need to see accounts receivable, accounts payable, your general ledger, so you could set up a dashboard for when you first login -- to drill down into the most important parts of your job and requirements with the company that you need visibility into -- rather than having to start from scratch, so you could set up your own dashboard. Macola is user based, so say you have seven primary users in your company, say you have your president, your CFO, your controller, your accounting manager, your IT person, your operations person, and your warehouse manager, you can customize as many as you want, depending on how many users you buy and have each individual dashboard be tailored towards that individual and their job/role with the company.

Long-term adaptation and evolution meets changing technology trends
SAP ERP is not really real-time. We use the HANA database which is supposed to be memory data in memory, but we are still not very happy. It is supposed to be real-time and come very quickly, but in reality, it still takes time to run. That is why we use BW of SAP, Business Objects, and now we have moved to the Analytic Cloud where we start using predictive AI. SAP recently implemented Databricks, and they started investing significantly in the analytic environment. SAP ERP has been left behind as they moved to S/4HANA with the HANA database. They restructured the whole table structure of SAP ERP, introduced simple finance, simple logistics, and moved HR to SuccessFactors. They have the BTP layer where they manage everything from integration to master data management. The challenge with SAP is that they move very fast to different products and buy different products. It requires significant investment and many skills to catch up because all of these have different sets of technology. The fundamental has changed differently. It is not monolithic anymore but different products under one name, SAP. You have to buy it model by model for additional models. Products such as SuccessFactors, Ariba for procure to pay, Concur for travel, and Facility Management use totally different technology. They try to integrate with each other, but it remains a challenge for SAP to make them have the same management, technology, and operational approach.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"Whether it's light or heavy manufacturing with bill of materials, traceability, order entry, stuff like that, I mean, that's probably the number one strength of Macola ES, I would say, for light and heavy manufacturing organizations."
"The transactional integration of operations is the best-recommended feature of this product; it provides integration of all operational modules."
"The solution has a lot of good integrated modules."
"Finance view across functions has been valuable."
"SAP is a very process controlled application. It does not allow users to manage the data. Once the initial process is set, it works smoothly."
"The best feature of SAP ERP is the full integration."
"We used Navision previously and then we moved to SAP ERP because of its larger scale and strategic direction from the management."
"ERP can help manage all enterprise resources. It brings them together and provides some analytical data to inform management decisions."
"This is a robust solution with a lot of control measures."

Cons

"If you have to call Exact Macola directly as a developer, it's like calling Verizon; you don't know if you're speaking with someone from India, or knows anything about your account, or they're seeing it for the first time."
"When evaluating the current version I am using now, the SAP GUI is old-style and needs to be replaced with something more modern and easy to use."
"I'm only working on the front end with ERP's user interface, which isn't very easy for end-users. It's an old-school interface, so it's often challenging to find what you need."
"I do not have any notes for improvements."
"Overall, initial setup is very complex."
"Sometimes the cost is not reasonable, such as in the case of budgeting."
"The reporting could be improved, such as the casework, production, and activity reports. Our consultants in a subsidiary enterprise have requested that we develop a new production report. They could also improve production, financial, and HR analysis."
"The reporting feature could improve in SAP ERP. It could benefit from being more flexible."
"They are not making a big effort to make it easy to integrate solutions from other vendors."

Pricing and Cost Advice

Information not available
"SAP ERP is an expensive tool."
"The solution is expensive so I rate cost a five out of ten."
"My company makes early payments towards the licensing costs attached to the product. There are no additional costs apart from the charges paid toward the subscription-based license offered by SAP."
"I rate the product's price a seven on a scale of one to ten, where one is cheap, and ten is expensive. SAP ERP is a costly tool."
"SAP ECC is not cheap but I consider it the best system for managing an organization's data and processes."
"I am not sure. However, extensions cost approximately $100,000 or$200,000."
"The on-premises licensing model comes with annual maintenance whereas the cloud-based licensing model is a yearly subscription. The tool’s pricing is normal and not expensive."
"I rate SAP ERP's pricing a six or seven out of ten."
