An excellent application with a strong use case
It is very intuitive and has improved significantly over the last seven years. Its deployment is very enterprise-focused, and I hope it will eventually become cloud-based for easier connection through AWS or similar services. Identity has become our central gatekeeper and has provided secure single sign-on for all users
Microsoft Entra ID can improve by focusing more on new passwordless methods and becoming a primary adopter. One feature we would like to see is the ability to have security questions for password resets. I know the current capability is phasing out, so we do not have an alternative method yet. Customers who already use security questions require a smoother transition for that capability to be available. My experience with the deployment has had some challenges, particularly around the Microsoft MFA campaigns. The hardest part is moving users from a different MFA provider to the Microsoft MFA provider, as it ultimately depends on user activity. In large enterprises with numerous users across various geographies, this transition takes time. If there are ways to exert more control around that process, it would improve the situation.

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"It allows for self-service which means quicker turnaround for end-user support."
"It is very intuitive and has improved significantly over the last seven years. Its deployment is very enterprise-focused, and I hope it will eventually become cloud-based for easier connection through AWS or similar services. Currently, it's an excellent application with a strong use case."
"It is perfectly stable."
"The solution is extremely scalable."
"The most valuable feature is the ability to establish resource groups and set permissions through RBAC across these groups."
"It enhances security, especially for unregistered devices, and it 1000% has security features that help to improve our security posture."
"The cloud security part is very valuable. Security is the most important thing in today's world. With Azure Active Directory, there are some features that tell you how you need to improve your security level. It informs you if you set up certain policies, e.g., this is where my users sign in. It tends to let you know if your organization has been breached with this security set up. Therefore, it is easier to know when you have been breached, especially if you set up a Conditional Access policy for your organization."
"What I like most about Azure Active Directory is its SSO (single sign-on) feature, as we have a community of users with different IDs and passwords, and this feature helps integrate all these."
"Overall, my experience with Active Directory has been very good."
"The portal version of the Azure active directory is pretty robust."

Cons

"Perhaps it is the way my organization has it set up but I would like to add people to more than one group at a time."
"I would like to see EmpowerID move to the cloud to facilitate easier deployment and connectivity through AWS or similar services."
"Microsoft is working with Microsoft Identity Manager for Active Directory on-premise. It will be very important to have these identity management solutions directly in Azure Active Directory."
"Role-based access controls."
"The initial setup was complex."
"I hope, in the roadmap, Microsoft eventually offers the same features as Okta. It will take some more time to mature."
"Customers want to know exactly where they are spending their money, allowing them to assess and potentially save money in those specific areas."
"The monitoring dashboard could be a bit better."
"The downside is that we now have all our eggs in one basket with Microsoft. We have this great authentication and single sign-on, but if Microsoft has an outage in North America or globally, on Outlook or Teams, we're dead in the water... We get some type of hiccup once a quarter."
"Many of the features are outdated, so the UI and UX could be improved."

Pricing and Cost Advice

Information not available
"The licensing model makes it difficult to understand the real cost of the solution, especially because it changes all the time."
"The pricing for Azure Active Directory is affordable; I would rate the cost a six out of ten."
"It is bundled with other services and the pricing is quite reasonable."
"I am not involved in the pricing or licensing, so I can't speak to that."
"Azure AD comes with Office 365, so we are just paying for the Office 365 license."
"The cost of Azure AD is one of the biggest benefits, as it is available for use free of charge when you start with Office 365."
"Entra's pricing is somewhat higher compared to AWS."
"The product's price is in the midrange."
