Has improved credential security with remote password change and role-based access
I have not faced any significant issues with Delinea Secret Server during this period of time, but we had a problem with a web password filler, which is a template used for accessing a web URL using Secret Server, where we faced some session management issues since session management is not applicable for the web password filler. This should be the improvement that we require from Delinea Secret Server. The session management is not applicable in this case; we can manage the session and have session management inside the remote systems within the organization. However, when it comes to web-related access, we can access directly through Delinea Secret Server. We can access any URL through Secret Server, but the problem is that the session cannot be managed on the web URL due to it having multiple systems. I do not have any other recommendations regarding the improvement of Delinea Secret Server at this time.

Secure management of sensitive servers and seamless applications with direct linking
The credential injection feature is highly valued, particularly for RDP sessions. A majority of customers use it for RDP, and a couple for Linux servers. The broader capabilities, including access to multiple systems, web-based applications, and clustering, have never posed an issue. The threat analytics aspect is also a robust feature that analyzes all pertinent information.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"Provides us with the ability to control access [to secrets] by groups."
"The biggest benefit of Delinea Secret Server would be the remote password change and discovery, which are a major help for the management of the accounts."
"I like that you can change the password remotely."
"The solution is good."
"There has been no downtime this year."
"The GUI interface is well-designed and user-friendly."
"I have found the password management and the secret management features to be the most valuable. Our customers find its ease of integration and the use of power shells really attractive."
"I like that it's user-friendly."
"The technical support has be an essential part of our deployment."
"It is great for identity governance."
"It gives you list of servers, so you can see which users have access to which servers. This is really useful, so we can make sure nobody is getting extra access than what is needed."
"We have received good support from the tech support team."
"The CA PAM’s ability to seamlessly integrate and provide a demarcation between users and systems is the most attractive aspect."
"We know we can scale up with what we have, and we probably will not need to buy any further appliances down the road."
"One of the valuable features is the randomly generated password."
"Stability is solid as a rock."

Cons

"Cybersecurity is constantly evolving, so there will be features needed in the future."
"When working with larger enterprises Thycotic Secret Server becomes a little cumbersome to work with because they do not allow as much flexibility as some of the other competitors, such as CyberArk. Thycotic Secret Server could improve by being more flexible when it comes to customization, and increase the number of API integrations."
"They could improve the container platform and SPO."
"Its remote support feature needs improvement."
"One of the things that we want is to be able to do some of the management of it using APIs."
"We find the documentation hard to understand."
"In many PAM tools, when users request a password checkout, they need to provide justification. However, in my experience across four organizations, nobody actually reads the justifications. Users can simply type anything and get the password. This becomes a risk and compliance issue. There needs to be continuous improvement in this area, focusing on problem identification and mitigation strategies."
"The biggest challenge with this solution is the usability."
"The demonstration and consideration portion does not work the best. It's not that intuitive."
"I wish it could create local accounts on desktops."
"What I hope happens with the new product CA PAM is to keep all the useful features that exist in PA, but what I’ve noticed with many new products is the UI gets polished but systems lags stability and performance or it adds additional complexity instead of simplifying the user experience."
"They need to do a little bit more on the mainframe side."
"We have to do a lot of manual work to automate features."
"Instead of just giving passwords to the user based on job function, from auditing perspective, turn that cycle around. That would really help from an auditing standpoint."
"We had some issues with the load balancing feature when configured for clustering."
"They need to improve how it scales."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"Most customers opt for a yearly license."
"I would rate the pricing a six out of ten, with ten being a high price."
"There are different plans and additional licensing costs that can be instituted for add-ons."
"It is very expensive, and its price should be lower."
"I would give the price a four on a scale from one to ten, with one being the cheapest and ten being the most expensive. We pay for the license on a yearly basis, and we paid for three years. It costs around 5000 a year."
"In the Nigerian market, the adoption of Delinea depends largely on an organization's budget. If they have the financial capacity, they might consider Delinea as a viable option."
"It would be beneficial if it were reduced."
"Secret Server is expensive when compared to the cost to some alternatives."
"It is reasonably priced."
"Pricing is fair compared to other top vendors."
"The prices are not low, but one can ask for a discount. It’s not the cheapest PAM solution."
"Appliances are relatively cheap, don’t skimp. Make sure you have redundancy, high availability, and enough appliances to manage the concurrent workload."
"Don’t go with an agent model. Don’t go with a model that has you buying a thousand different parts. Go with PAM that gives you everything, or you’ll just be paying costs of implementing another tool that PAM would have just given you up front."
"I would prefer better licensing options for the 20-100 users we have at a given time."
"It is more expensive than other solutions on the market."
"Cost-wise, CA was better compared to others in the market. "
