Real-time monitoring has improved our banking API performance and supports detailed business transaction analysis
The real-time monitoring is what we can see for anything that is needed in terms of CPU, memory, or the connections or the sessions related. It's real-time monitoring of performance of each of the components, which is what we need and use all the time. It's highly effective, I would say. Infrastructure visibility, transaction monitoring, to check the actual user experience in terms of the response time, MRT and all those things. We do the component monitoring like the API performance and the connections and all those things, but we also do the business process monitoring and business transaction monitoring.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"It's a flexible APM solution that can be deployed across multiple applications."
"The features, ease of use, and customer service provided by AppDynamics was what tipped the scale towards them."
"From the performance management side, I like everything from business transaction work to tracking. On the database side, we can get a lot of insights from the database. On the server monitoring side, it helped us a lot to find out some of the issues on the VM side because VMs were creating a little trouble for us."
"The real user monitoring helps us evaluate our customers' real experiences, which is valuable as an eCommerce company."
"I have seen a return on investment with Splunk AppDynamics, as we are investing more and more for Splunk AppDynamics because we have many tools and many applications in our organization."
"The features of Splunk AppDynamics that I prefer most are the monitoring aspect, making sure we can drill down and find problems."
"With the metrics AppDynamics provides us with, we have a complete picture to draw conclusions."
"Has helped us to increase customer acquisitions and reduce revenue leakage in the following: Conversion rates Average revenue per user Customer acquisition costs Rate of customer churn Recurring or incremental revenue Renewals and/or subscriptions."
"Splunk AppDynamics' AI-powered anomaly detection and root cause analysis are very effective in diagnosing performance issues, allowing me to quickly identify blocking on the database, track slow SQL queries, and understand what is going on."

Cons

"Scaling out requires the added cost of multiple servers, and we don't have plans to do that."
"The end-user experience is not really good because we can't catch all of the transactions."
"I would think Splunk AppDynamics could do a better job in creating out-of-box dashboards for Kubernetes-based cloud applications."
"They need to improve the consolidation of agents for the agent's installation process."
"The setup, implementation and use are clumsy and need to be refined."
"I think a little more control over which transactions get that depth attached to them would be good."
"Application Analytics' performance in pure and native cloud environments could be improved."
"The application monitoring needs improvement. It needs to be easier for someone who isn't a proficient developer."
"I think the only feedback from my team has been that it's not an HTML based UI right now, so it's limited on mobile devices."

Any advice about APM solutions?
There are many factors and we know little about your requirements (size of org, technology stack, management systems, the scope of implementation). Our goal was to consolidate APM and infra monitor...
What is your experience regarding pricing and costs for AppDynamics?
I would rate the pricing an eight out of ten. The solution is highly expensive. Our company pays for the solution on a yearly basis, if we don't add new modules or features to the license, we need ...
