Quotes From Members
We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"I can quickly manage the provisioned servers.""I can deploy something in my 50-odd servers all in one go, in parallel, whereas if I was to do that individually, it could be a nightmare.""When one server fails, we can attach the service profile to a new server, which saves a lot of time.""The most valuable features are flexibility and management.""What I like most about Cisco UCS Manager is the ease of administration. It also allows the central management of maintenance, installation, and configuration activities.""The reporting functionality will give you any report you want.""The flexibility and the ease in which the features can be expanded are the solution's most valuable aspects.""Ease of management is certainly the most valuable feature in this product."

"Scalability and flexibility. The product can grow with your infrastructure so you don't have to install other products. Just add components. It's very simple.""What I like about DX Unified Infrastructure Management is that it's a very good product. The feature I found most valuable in the solution is the MCS feature, which is the automatic deployment of the objects you want to monitor. You can set up a system, for example, if it's a Windows machine and I want to test specific devices on it, I could do that through DX Unified Infrastructure Management. That type of deployment is very good because it means you won't miss any monitoring aspect on any server.""You can scale it pretty much however way you want to as long as you have the servers to throw at it.""The monitoring of the applications to let our business know when things are performing and that they're up and available.""It is the foundation for our monitoring solution.""It is very scalable.""It delivers our customers many metrics, so they may make decisions""Monitoring infrastructure and business applications are the most valuable features."

Cons
"The automation within the solution needs to be simplified.""Upgrading the firmware is a difficult procedure.""The pricing can be better.""There is room for improvement in the software part of Cisco UCS Manager. It should be more user-friendly, especially when creating policies.""The installation and upgrade sytems need to be improved.""I would like to see Cisco UCS optionally work as a hyper-converged system because right now, it only operates as a converged system.""In the next release, I would like to see improvements made to their security.""Cisco UCS Manager is not a scalable solution because once you have 160 blades, it cannot be expanded more."

More Cisco UCS Manager Cons →

"We have experienced challenges with finding a mechanism to deploy the agents, but it's only on the first deployment so it's not a big issue.""A useful feature to have would be automatic configuration per standard by new robots that check in for any particular customer.""There is also room for improvement in the reporting. It is not really good enough, according to our customers. So what we now usually do is use Power BI to get them the kinds of reports they want.""I think it can be improved by a greater provision of specialized technical support, as there are very few trained personnel there.""Reporting capability can be improved especially when it comes to availability.""In the UMP, certain devices will show up multiple times and they don't correlate correctly. That's one of the issues.""The biggest feature that I've been hoping they would enhance on is inventory management: things like adding/removing nodes.""The dashboards need to be improved."

Pricing and Cost Advice
  • "With product discounts which can be negotiated, the product is a great value."
  • "You buy the hardware and then you get Cisco UCS Manager for free."
  • "The pricing for Cisco UCS Manager is okay for its market, so it's a four out of five for me."
  • "Cisco UCS is more expensive than Dell and HP, but it is more reliable. I see less issues and it's quite stable."
  • "Cisco UCS Manager’s annual licensing fee is expensive."
  • "We need to take a license for each port, which amounts to a big sum."

  • "This product is expensive compared to other vendors (SolarWinds, ManageEngine)."
  • "The product-price ratio is better than other brands such as Fortinet or SonicWall."
  • "The license cost depends on the number of probes and robots."
  • "Reasonable setup cost and licensing prices."
  • "CAD $400,000 annually."
  • "Customers pay for the license and the support."
  • "Pricing for DX Unified Infrastructure Management isn't cheap at all. It's a complex tool, so you have to pay more. No one is happy with a large bill to pay, but if it's a complex product and you designed a complex solution to be monitored, it'll be your fault that you need to buy an expensive product, and that would be implicit in the design of DX Unified Infrastructure Management. Monitoring is just a small part of it. Sometimes you have to pay a significant amount of money for a complex yet very good solution."
