Unified security and sd-wan have improved uptime and cut wan costs for multi-site branches
Users report stability issues in certain versions, which requires regular updates. Real-world attacks have also highlighted the need for urgent patching of vulnerabilities.Fortinet FortiGate, while a powerful and feature-rich web firewall, could improve in areas like firmware stability, documentation, and ease of use. The learning curve can be steep for some users. For beginners, support quality can vary, and frequent updates with occasional vulnerabilities call for careful patch management. However, once Fortinet FortiGate is configured, it remains highly reliable and efficient. Customer support needs improvement, as I find it very slow, with reports from other users reflecting that customer support is inadequate.

Has improved threat prevention and protection but presents deployment and licensing challenges
The best features Check Point Quantum Force (NGFW) offers are AI-powered threat prevention, zero-day protection, unified management, and scalability. These features have helped me in my daily work or my organization by allowing us, as a SAAS company operating across AWS, Azure, and handling external partner access or a multi-tenant model, to preemptively stop unknown attacks, which is critical. Check Point Quantum Force (NGFW) has positively impacted my organization as it is a high-end enterprise grade firewall. I have noticed that it is very good if your SAAS business has high traffic volume, serious threat prevention requirements, and you are ready for the investment.

Protects from attack software and hacking but it doesn't provide the reports in a readable format
In my opinion, image clarity is very important, because I don't get the proper image product on reports. This means that functionality is not there. My engineer does not know how he can replace an order. We attach a log after any kind of keys using a utility instead. For the internet policies that we are implementing, the policy should be based on proper protocols. We use the default policies and there are a number of third-party protocols that appear here. Management with WatchGuard XTM means that out of policy is the problem from our side. In this way, we can not do effective services for people with this one. The policy definition with WatchGuard XTM is not proper for all use case requirements. I've got weekly business reports that I am expecting attachments with from WatchGuard XTM that display data for all kinds of consideration which should be required. Main User Functionality Level Order must adhere to using the admin functionality on the registry, or else our users publish their own name. Maybe these recommendations are irrelevant, but I say that the issue to improve most with WatchGuard XTM is the Main User Function.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"The most valuable feature of Fortinet FortiGate SWG is its stability."
"If anyone asks me for my experience with Fortinet solutions, I would recommend FortiGate, especially if they need to use it for security."
"The firewall and VPN features are the most valuable in protecting our customers' networks."
"The solution is superior to Cisco in terms of security."
"I've found the solution to be very good."
"The multi-tenancy feature is most valuable. It integrates very well with FortiManager and FortiAnalyzer."
"The best features of Fortinet FortiGate include good functionality, though the licensing cost is a bit higher; their response time and throughput are very good advantages."
"The management console is pretty simple, so anyone who understands networking can initially deploy the solution."
"Check Point Next Generation firewalls are very good, they have a lot of features in one box and they're not that expensive."
"The simplicity of the access control is the most valuable feature for us. It gives us the ability to easily identify traffic that is either being allowed or denied to our network."
"Check Point has a really cool GUI."
"After deploying Check Point Quantum Force (NGFW), we are very secure from cyber threats; our resources are protected, and our endpoint devices are prevented from downloading malicious files."
"We have found the solution to be scalable."
"The solution's most valuable feature is its adaptability and configurable nature."
"The product's primary benefits include effective intrusion blocking and improved network management."
"The product is very user-friendly."
"We have used technical support for WatchGuard many times and overall, we are satisfied with it. They are always listening and there is a good reaction time to our findings. When there are issues, they really try to resolve them."
"We're really happy with WatchGuard."
"Application Control is fantastic with over 2,500 applications and the granularity that we can either allow people to view but not be able to log on to Facebook; or view it and log onto it if they're in the marketing department, but not play Facebook games. There are all sorts of different options like that. So it's highly granular."
"Packet filters and proxy policies are valuable features, as they allow you to configure restrictions by domain name and are useful to block web pages that have multiple IP addresses, such as Facebook."
"I like the hostwatch because I can see what traffic uses the most bandwidth and I can block that site."
"This product helped facilitate and protect our environment from the inside out, with features like DLP (data loss prevention) to content filtering all the way to port filtering and traffic shaping."
"It is stable and does not require you to reboot all the time."
"Lots of enterprise-grade features in SMB firewall Cost-price performance is at its best"

Cons

"During a recent upgrade from old devices to the latest ones, corporate IT faced challenges as there was no straightforward migration process, requiring many manual steps."
"We had some issues in the beginning while setting it up, but after doing the firmware update, it is working fine."
"It should be more stable."
"I would rate the technical support of Fortinet a six or seven out of ten. It is not very helpful. I would like to see improvements in their support."
"The improvement is related to logs. Instead of the CLI, we should be able to have more insights into the logs of the firewall in the GUI."
"The FortiGate series does not have that much troubleshooting and network testing features in its GUI, hence we’ll definitely be looking for some add-on features in near future."
"The support package being an additional extra, even with an enterprise package purchase, is pathetic. Though I haven't had direct experience with support, the fact that it doesn't come by default, which is very misleading compared to other brands, warrants a rating of two out of ten."
"It would be a benefit if Fortinet would release a one-stop solution that is better integrated with other products and has an automated emergency response system."
"I'd like to see more use of applications and URLs in security policies moving forwards."
"The Antivirus feature is something that could be improved. We don't get much from the Antivirus update in comparison to their competitor's firewalls."
"The technical support is really poor. We have to wait for approximately 48 hours sometimes for a simple solution."
"Check Point is a bit difficult to use and manage so it would be nice to see some improvement in those areas."
"They should integrate all blades to use a single policy rather than multiple."
"Check Point's study materials should be provided by the company directly and be of very good quality. This is not provided right now and something that the company can improve."
"The equipment is complex, so you need guidance from specialized people or those who constantly work with Check Point."
"The virtual environment is not stable at all. We have some customers who are using the virtual environment feature, and sometimes it crashes. We have many tickets open and the response is not as good as expected. We have to wait months for a resolution."
"It's a fine product, but some features like the max bandwidth don't work well. Also, the VPN errors are not helpful when troubleshooting."
"The VPN errors are not helpful when troubleshooting."
"The issue that we had was that the integration with Active Directory was a bit of a hassle."
"The problem is the high cost."
"We still haven't got the Terminal Service agent to work in our Citrix environment Application Signature also doesn't work well especially in SSL traffic"
"Wireless throughput needs to be improved."
"One huge issue with WatchGuard XTM is that I'm not getting reports in a readable format."
"WatchGuard doesn't have a product that allows them to get into the data center. And that's just because there is no hardware to do the job."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"There is a need to pay for a license for the product."
"Fortinet is reasonable in pricing and licensing. Overall, FortiGate is affordable. The licensing fee can be a little high, depending on the budget for your project."
"If you compare Fortinet FortiGate with Sophos and other firewall products available in the market, this solution is affordable."
"Fortinet's pricing is more straightforward than other solutions. If Fortinet doesn't stick out when you're searching for a solution, you are a glutton for punishment. You only need to know two things when purchasing a Fortinet solution: your total bandwidth and bandwidth at the site. You need to estimate the future bandwidth with other solutions if your customer plans to upgrade."
"We pay $500 per year for the license."
"Their licensing costs are annual. The UTM feature license along with their support is called FortiCare. We include that as a part of the annual maintenance cost. Palo Alto or Juniper also have an annual subscription charge for UTM. Price, of course, can always be more competitive, but it is not the most expensive product. The price-performance ratio is quite high for FortiGate."
"In terms of the market, it's not a cheap product, but it's cost-effective."
"The price of Fortinet FortiGate is reasonable."
"Though we did not take issue with the price of Check Point NGFW, we felt that it was providing us with inadequate support here in Uganda."
"Maybe the pricing is a bit high but you get the durability and the duration."
"There is an annual license required for this solution."
"They sell it in one box. In that one box, they sell Antivirus and Threat Prevention. They have everything, so we are not required to purchase additional IPS hardware for it."
"It is not a cheap solution, which is why we are looking for another one."
"Check Point NGFW is expensive."
"Pricing is good. The price is very reasonable for enterprise customers."
"The pricing is a bit high, but obviously it gives you advanced features. If you want to buy the best thing on the market, you have to pay extra money."
"Get at least a maintenance contract for the updates and take a larger WatchGuard than you need. A WatchGuard creates new ways to secure your network."
"The licensing and renewal is very expensive."
"Like all other manufacturers, there are a lot of features and different pricing. The best is to talk to a representative."
"It costs less than the SO works and others (like SonicWall, Cisco, and Barracuda) without increasing so much CPU use."
